Lord... next everyone will be claiming SE bullied them with rng.
Come on! It's an rpg. The entire genre has evolved out of pen & paper, table top games that used dice.

Quoting myself for this as it seems it's necessary...
You get tokens for completing the extreme primals. Usually these are used to buy what I call the Bahamut weapons. You need three tokens, one from each of the first three extreme primals, and each is a guaranteed drop to those who particpate. It'd be easy to give them another thing to buy outside of the now defunct weapons.
The 'those' here are Rowena's Tokens as each one costs 130 soldiery and you can get that in a couple hours, easy.
i have sub to a mmorpg, not a casino-simulation game...
not everyone love gamble, i'm not fond of it... then why it's forced on me?
it recall me a story from wow, a friend of mine was dreaming to get the mount droping on the baron of stratholm, the stuff had a 0.01% or something like this to drop... he did play WoW for 6 years and did countless run of this place... he simply never did see it droping. do you think it was feeling happy? do you think he was enjoying redo the same content for age a number of time that near crazy for nothing? the answer was no, he was bitter to death at the end, because one of our friend just did start the game and did stratholm one time and did get it.
it's that fair? no
it's that rewarding the effort put for get it? no!
it's that fun? ...do i have really to answer this one?
Grind for Grind, RNG involved or not... is not fun! it's a work! we don't sub for a work! we sub for have fun with our friend! when it become teddious work... we did loose the purpose to subs to the game. that as simple than this!
I think a lot of people who play XIV are addicted and are having a hard time coming to terms with it.
Completionists with ACTUAL (I don't mean in the lolIorganizemybookssometimes way) OCD should -never- play an MMO.
You just have to let go sometimes, OP.
I've seen 3 mounts, and I never farm. Lost them all.
They're not meant to be a 40 hour a week job. They're meant to be that extremely unexpected adrenaline rush you get on the odd occasion that it does drop.
There's no boost to it. The joy you get from sitting on a pony in Mor Dhona gloating will never be commensurate with the agony you'll suffer farming it. For your own well being and sense of fun, go do something else. Doesn't have to be in game. Just self-observe. And move on.
http://xivdb.com/?item/7004/Rowena%27s-Token <- What you get for the Extreme Weekly Quest.
http://xivdb.com/?item/7811/Rowena%2...%28Soldiery%29 <- What you get for 130 Soldiery.
So, you were saying?
Exept my friend, all the game begin to be like this... more and more rng stuff was added, more and more teddious grind are added. this rush of adrenaline it's short... why place short fun time in a game they want us to stay in... why not work on the fun factor of the game? why add boring grind ot it
even if they were the same item, it's no big deal since Soldiery has a weekly cap. if you want to spend 3 weeks of your weekly Soldiery cap to buy a mount, that's your choice to do so.
I've beat the four EX primals about 100 times (all of them combined), have never once seen any of the mounts drop. It's rather frustrating b/c I see people all over my server with them, black unicorn included.
Your point would be quite true if this were something like the main story quest, or a level cap increase quest, or something that would literally -lock- you out of other enjoyable things. They don't want you to -live- on FFXIV.
Because I play this video game to have fun with friends, and obsession over a single piece of vanity isn't fun.
There's a million other things to do. If you're not having fun in Ramuh/Levi/Iffy/Tits/Rudy, then go do something else.
If you have nothing of interest on this game, go rock climbing. Go camping. Go run with your dog. Go build a tree house. Go barbecue. Go swim. Go driving somewhere new.
Just enjoy life, man. Don't let an algorithm on a video game dictate your happiness.
what do you think i do, i simply say that i skip this part of the game, regreting that they did choose this direction for the game.
It's the "I willingly signed up for something but when it wasn't convenient, I started complaining" remark!
Kinda like that military guy in every movie who screams out "I willingly signed up for the military but now that I'm in a position to use what I trained for, this is no longer convenient for me"!
BRILLIANT.
The thing is, these aren't meant to be farmed. They're meant to be a bonus that some people get when they clear it. Same as the Deathcharger in WoW. Sure you can try and farm them if you want, but that's not the purpose of them. They are meant to be rare and somewhat "special" (quotes because I think they're fugly) It's how it should be.
My bad, you should go get something done about that gun against your head. You know what part of the Atma quest I hated the most, it was farming myth for the books. Getting the stones was 100x more enjoyable than farming all that myth. Ya know what I did, I stopped farming myth and went about my way doing other things, because I didn't like farming for the books I quit doing my Atma. Wierd concept yea? Not doing it because I didn't want to.
Of course it is, mate!
And it's vital to a better game.
But...if I don't like a dish at a restaurant, I don't keep going everyday and ordering the same thing until I enjoy it. I either order something new, or suggest ways to make the old thing better, or go somewhere else.
Same thing with this game. It's a theme park design. If one ride's not giving you what you want, there's other options. No need to make oneself miserable because of a system that's pretty unforgiving, is all.
I do agree, it would be nice to have the tokens exchangeable for the rest of the mounts besides Nightmare.
Good on the guy who mentioned that.
How peculiar. I got a few classes to 50, did one hard mode, and got bored before I got the gear. One could almost assume the gear part was irrelevant, because getting burned out on the content happens regardless! So if I'm going to get bored, why not let me have fun before getting bored?
I love the journey, I just happen to like bringing my clothes on it instead of dressing in rags until I've beaten the final boss and earned pants.
the irony is- once you reached the point where you start getting these mounts , you dont really need mounts in the game
Before this thread hit another page let us end it nw.
They are meant to be rare, you are meant to spend time farming for them, this creates value owning one, it's not a "me too" item. Deal with it, if you have OCD so much you gotta catch em all, then you need mental help.
What's the point in having an item that only 10 people will ever have ?
It does not give any reason to farm a boss, it is not rewarding since it's all luck based.
Even for the devs, making something that for 99.9999% of the population won't even be able to use.
These mounts would not exist that it wouldn't change anything, i don't even care, i just don't want that they put useless things in the game.
At least they are all CTRL+C CTRL+V of the unicorn.
Hate those ponies they are ugly and I have one just per luck because I was not even farming them.
"I want something because it is rare, but I don't want it to be rare"
This is how I see these threads. What makes them special is their rarity. If it wasn't rare and you saw them everywhere, people would cease to care about them. If everyone was riding around with the ponies they would be be seen as no big deal. When you see one of them you wish you had that players luck. Nobody pays attention to any of the other mounts except these because everyone has those. Nobody says hey nice bomb palequin, that's awesome.
People always chase the most rare items. Not because they are the best thing ever, but because not many others have them.
If you are not enjoying doing something, stop doing it. I don't understand the complaint of being forced to do something that isnt fun
What's the point in having an item that everyone has?
It does give you a reason to farm a boss, it is rewarding regardless of if its luck based.
I'd prefer to have something special rather than an in game equivalent of a big mac.
If a rare item exists you don't have to choose to go after it, but if a rare item doesn't exist I can't choose to go after it.
And what are you talking about? Everything in the game is useless. There is nothing in this game that everyone will agree to being of use.
You know what I want more than anything in this game? Its 500 pieces of new vanity armor to either craft or farm for, screw adding more progression gear. I find progression gear worthless personally.
You know what the worst part of getting the Atma was? It was the myth farming part in my opinion, not getting the stones.
+1 to leaving the primal mount drop system AS IS. All mounts have the same movement speed, none of the primal mounts have special abilities that put anyone to any advantage or disadvantage.
If you must have one, farm for it. I desperately wanted one and ran X primals enough that one dropped and I won it (after seeing 4 drop and losing roll).
I have to accept other things in the game that I don't have because I don't do it (The Hunt), so should everyone else. Thankfully not ALL content in this game is whack the piƱata and get all the shiny things like The Hunt, I hope it stays that way.
ok, i will say it differently, why use money, time and energy to make this item then? i means, if it means to be something only a few have what the point? are we at the point that the game have enough content for need rare stuff? i don't think soo.
my two cents.
@Mjytresz: i'm pointing the main flaws of the game, grind for grind, because recently it's what we get. i still wait a thrilling challenge that will make me want to face it and beat it... i don't feel a dance boss like it's a decent challenge... by the way if i had wanted to play DDR-online i will be on it, not on FF14 well you see the point i guess.
By incresaing drop rate for Garuda, titan, Ifrit it would incentivise players to start running that content again. Thus making it easier for those who havn't cleared them yet to be able to experience it again.
How many don't bother trying to farm the ex primals for the mount due to it's 1% drop rate? Theirs no reason to farm them for the drops, no reason to farm them for the weapons either. So by increasing drop rate of the mounts it would give reason for those who no longer care for them to return.
I think the argument is that no one really minds farming for it, but with the drop rate and RNG, we can safely assume some players will not see this VANITY item until maybe into a year of playing or, maybe more - which I would arguably would not mind myself but the item IS a vanity item...if it dropped gold for $%@ then yeah, I would understand...

Grinding for it to drop is ok. Competing against 7 other people is not.
I wish the system guarantees you a mirror or mount for let's say.... 50 clears of that primal.
People need to come to terms with rare items not being intended to be owned by all people.
You should not grind out hundreds of primal wins with the intent of getting a mount if you hate doing that.
Just do the content you like, and you are either lucky or unlucky when it comes to receiving a gift like that, and you move on.
That's the healthy mindset. Nobody should be killing themselves to get all the horses. It looks absolutely unreasonable to grind them out because it's not meant to be grinded.
Why? Because without something rare and/or unique to set people apart, there are many who would not play the game. When everyone can have the same things with minimal effort, and all look the same, people stop caring. Just like someone else said. For a game developer, it's always worth the time and money to do these things.
With the exception of the ramuh mount obviously, all these mounts have had their moment in the sun for a long time now. I rarely even see anyone that OWNS one of them still use it. Like the limited time difficult, I think that over time the rarity of older content drops should be eased. Pretty sure this is what WoW did for the people that "gotta catch them all" for mounts in older, now soloable content. It's fine if the latest & greatest is difficult & grindy, but when you reach the point where Bluebirds are going for millions, and no one even uses PF to do EX primals, it's just dumb for their rarity to remain so obscene.
I really like it when I see someone with a pony. I'm glad for them that they got lucky. It feels like people do not wish others luck anymore. They want every single thing for themselves. Probably the same people who if they would get one go all "look at me and my mount dawg!"
It's a shame people want everything at a reasonable farm/grind level. I'm glad these mounts have a huge luck factor. I really like that we don't see them often.
