yesm fluff to hold us over til the big stuff goes in
and not everything is fluff, people actualy wanted NMs, and like NMs, the ones complaining about those are the ones who woulda never done them to begin with and still have never done them
alot of the other stuff is the base of whats going to be coming in
remember, stuff takes time to make, if something is a priority that doesnt mean everything else gets dropped til its done
otherwise we woulda just had a 5 month period of time with not a single patch in it, and that would have been way worse.
nms failed
They are fun. yes.
But i literally took down -every- low level nm the before i went to sleep the day came out.
And the few "HNMS" are too easy. I mean a thm can solo most of them.
Point is, they don't create a challenge or create "something to do". They are just a quick way to get gear. Cept for the HNMs which wouldn't be too bad if the jobs had been balanced right.
I like how you guys think you just press one button and stuff is codded and perfect, but ill state this one more time like i did in another thread.
I was @ the UFTG (Ultimate fighting game tournament) here in Chicago where i live, so the dev team for Mortal Kombat was there some players gather around and ask some questions. One question was when are you guys gonna add the button config to the menu so he responds (this might surprise some of you trolls) While a button Config may seem simple to implement it would take us an while to implement something like that even tho it seems like a small task which it is not.
So i could only imagine how long it would take to rebuild and recode shit in this game.
How did the Nm's fail but still fun @ the same time doesn't make sense if they were fun then they did them right...........Quote:
nms failed
They are fun. yes.
Honestly these threads are starting to get stupid now, and more and more come up every day.
If you cannot wait until the end of summer quit and play another mmo... simple as that. But they said almost everything people are complaining about will be addressed by then. We have a tentative timeline more or less and people still rage they need to fix the things they said they will fix.
Do people really want trivial things before massive things like battle reform, class/job balancing, and actual content lower, mid, and endgame.
I would rather them put all their focus into adding things to do in the game, instead of them assigning chucks of their team to work on things that are near meaning less without content to back them up.
Seriously if the devs did what people been demanding this week they would postpone the battle and content updates and work on the following:
1) Birds Flying
2) Mounts
3) Mail Boxes
4) /lskick commands
5) Jumping
While all those above are important... well besides #1 honestly. are they more important then content and fun things to do in the game? Think about that a second. Why the crap would you not want them to not prioritize update... do you really want to wait 5 months to get anything... because making them have smaller teams is just going to slow everything up.
And to comment on HNM why are people considering those NMS hnms, they spawn every game day and honestly are not/nor ever where that hard to kill. They are basically a normal NM in my book. When they add mobs that take a full party or alliance of partys to kill and it takes around an hour or so to kill 1 with 15-16 people... then they will be hnms.
The initial 5 R60+ NMs were fun for a whole of a week. The R25-35 NMs served their purpose of giving mid level players stuff to kill by themselves. That is all they were intended for. XI had plenty of those.
Filler NMs are filler NMs. That's all.
Only issue with NMS I see is they spawn so fast people get burt out on them. I still wish they would have some lottery spawn NMS to give people who like camping nms something to do.
the current nms are more casual, but when you kill something 30 times in a week yea it gets real old fast. That is the problem with casual content its life span is extremely short, so there needs to be more content created quick... which SE is not doing atm.
The point of NM implementation in a game like this isn't to be fun.
why? Because killing the same mob is only fun for so long.
The point of NMs is to give players something to do which takes time and effort but has good rewards.
These NMs are short-term oriented fun. They will entertain someone for 1 or 2 days or maybe 2 or 3 "NM runs". After that spamming 1 and killing the same thing 40 times without any drops gets boring.
FFXI's NMs on the other hand created a long-term challenge. You had to spend time camping them, some gave cool titles which lets you show off, many gave really good equip which could then be sold, many were camped by multiple ppl so it was a "challenge". etc.
An MMO needs NMs like ffxi's. Sure they could be changed and tweaked a little. But FFXIV's NMs are essentially useless.
It has to do with the style of the game.
FFXI was not grinding-based. Yes you had to grind one or 2 jobs but they were all unique, required parties and teamwork, etc. But there were also tons of things to do outside of grinding. You could spend hours camping an nm, you could do interesting quests that take you to hard to reach places not many people go, you could actually farm stuff that had value, etc.
FFXIV is grind central. Instead of creating things to do outside of grinding, it minimizes anything non-grindable (ex nms) so you get done with them fast and can go back to grinding. This is probably going to be the main reason why XIV will never be a huge success. Unless they drastically change things.
Disagree. I loathed FFXI's lottery pop/compete for 1 NM spawn that could spawn in 1 hour or not spawn for 5 because the window got screwed/random conditions+weather (I'm looking at you, noble mold), or had what seemed to be a 99% droprate on what you DIDN'T want (I'm looking at you, Xolotl, no I don't want your f#*$ing hat).
There needs to be a middle ground between (formerly) rmt-camped, (but still) annoying to get nms like VE, Hoo Mjuu, Mee Degi, etc. and the literal 1 minute pops of this game. And don't even get me started on HNMs.
At least in this game, everyone gets the chance to kill the damn things, so that's a plus I guess.
Yawn, these threads are getting boring.
I wonder how many people read the last letter from yoshi, which pretty clearly listed all the features coming before the end of summer. That's the next 3 months, guyz. Probably 1-3 updates.
This is the best thread ever you guys.
HNMS? What HNMS? HNMS wont show up until the level cap changes. Everything we are fighting now will be considered "Low Game" to "Mid Game" in about a year.
Read the OP, didnt bother with posts so:
Remember we voted for this.
Some of the 'want' threads are a bit ridiculous tbh.
Imagine all of the content that is waiting on these battle fixes being completed.
you are free to leave or go back to wow are the most useless posts ever and don't / won't help the game in any way. These kinda posts are the real trollish posts imho.
I still don't know why the white-knight-born still feel offended by critics towards SE?
are you all holding major shares of the company?... i don't get it...
I think the OP is more annoyed with the self-proclaimed rulers of these forums posting their own threads, and defending their own ideas, followed by them going into anyone else's thread and telling them that there is no time for their ideas. I see this alot, people getting castrated for posting their own ideas for improvements and the people that perform those castrations have their own threads, telling us that they know what is high priority. To them, high priority ideas are the ones that they themselves come up with.
i don't think jump is anyones first priority, its just one of the many things... The only reason it got so big in the forums is, that people honestly think it will destroy the immersion...
All these many discussions wouldnt happen if the devs would communicate with us more, which they really don't.
This way every thread gets into a flame war sooner or later. Its not the community fault imo. Mainly SE, since they leave us in the dark or give us many false promises.
To the Original Poster:
You really need to think before you start spelling out your rant. If SE gave everybody everything they wanted then this game wouldn't have any sense of grandure or challenge. They're trying their best to think the problem over and plot the best course of actions without completely destroying the game's integrity.
In all accounts I, too, wish that we had something to ride besides walking Gridania from Camp Emerald Moss to Camp Tranquil. (Holy Hell that was far!) Right now, though, I would like to see some things changed first. Hint: Battle. SE is right that they should make priorities. They need to fix the problems most harmful to it's image so they can obtain a stronger player-base. So don't write hate mail to these devolopers. They're already bending backwards trying to solve someone else's mistake.
It is Square-Enix that is making this game but for all we know the team working on FFXIV could be pretty small. They may not have the same amount of staff they had when the game was in development.
Now that we know that SE is also working on a new MMO that they have "heavily invested" into plus all their upcoming projects, it would make sense that they are not concentrating a huge amount of staff and money on fixing FFXIV.
Seeing how SE acted these last few years, i would say FFXIV's team is probably half or less what it was during development and same for the budget. They probably believe that theres no real rush concerning FFXIV. This explains why small little tweaks take them months to implement.
Don't expect the game to become a "GREAT" mmo anytime soon. It will probably be after the first expansion.. around fall 2012.
Just like math has orders of operation, game devs have priorities so that they can build the rest of the game off of the base establishment. Sometimes you have to do one thing before you do another, or else you'd have to go back and start all over again. Hence the way FFXIV was on release.
In FFXIV's case, the Battle System is the Base Establishment to a building. After that, they can start building more floors (Content/Job System/etc.). After that, they can decorate everything ex. Jump, New Armor Designs, etc.
I know you cannot compare game development to building a skyscraper, but in the sense of priority, this is the best way it can be done, or else you may find yourself creating extra work, and I'm sure as shit nobody wants to wait any longer for SE.
i don't think anyone thinks it is that easy. But still there are some future-fixes like getting rid of sp, linkshell management, search function etc. that don't really change after autoattack is implemented... or am i getting something wrong.
I think these issues should be adressed parallel and imediately. I'm not sure but the only reason they don't do it atm would be they completely change the ui from scratch, not only the battle ui. Did they state that somewhere? (im not sure tbh, they might have said that but i dont think so).
They can't. They know you guys want these changes now and if they could they would give it to you now. But they rather put more staff on the battle system and other aspects of the game that are more important. This will speed things up and they will be able to give you these changes sooner.
Or do you rather wait another month for the battle changes to come in and get LS management now?
Well, not only are your ideas not a priority, but they are also: unnecessary, serve very little purpose to expand the game, directly rip off other games, are such minor details that it would really make no difference if they where implemented, or require other things to happen before they can even think about implementing them.
We shouldn't focus on the micro of development just yet. Especially when the macro still needs a lot of work.
Well with most of the things they are planning to implement, they can finish and release any time they would like. However, sometimes it is in the best interest to test everything on top of the base establishment before it is implemented. It could be anywhere from the coding of the game to the aesthetics.
I believe they did mention a UI overhaul, but that could mean stuff like Party Search functions, Auction House, etc. The Battle UI is part of the UI overhaul, which includes the Job System, Balancing, etc.
About the OP and the rest of our cast of usual suspects: Every single time I happen to forget, and look onto one of their postings, I'm reminded of the Duchess' Nursery Rhyme in Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland:
"Speak roughly to your little boy,
And beat him when he sneezes:
He only does it to annoy,
Because he knows it teases."
Still, I'm coming to realize that she/he, and some others, truly have come to think and act as though SE had a virtual closet, where all the right ideas for XIV are already conveniently pre-coded, and tested, and corrected, and debugged, and optimized, just waiting for someone to will them into the main code. And then, a magic pass, for all possible conflicts and unforeseen consequences to evaporate. That, or maybe chocobos are grazing placidly in SE's headquarter's patio, and they just need to be pushed through a little door, for them to appear in the game. Something nobody is doing, because... they haven't thought of it.
We, as a community of gamers, remain true to the projection that will have us behave like a bunch of immature, tantrum-prone kids, addicted to crack, all sitting on a bunch of phantom entitlements. Playing mage classes is affecting our brain! We want our frigging mount and we want it NOW!!!!
I need an aspirin after reading all that.. lol
Anyhow, I really honestly honestly don't get why some people don't understand that SE just went threw a Dev changing overhaul 4ish months back. It takes time to rework ( and take ideas from the old dev teams), and develop and make content. also, Due to the fact of the Earthquake/Tsunami They needed to tend to the Country for a month ( honestly, with the people who are whining, I feel as if you don't care about there safety and getting their life back together, just want the game to get better in an instant... :/ ).
Anyways, So technically the team minus their Country troubled times ( and still probably are at this time) the new dev team has been here for 4 months ( June doesn't count because it just started today) and 4 months is not much time to develop "a Broken game" a lot of people claim and to a degree I agree as well.
Content IS coming guys and even is stated in "Letter of the Producer X!" That all what was stated will be in by the end of Summer. You can complain then if all those features are not in by Summer. They know their sights on where they want FFXIV to get. So give the "new dev" team a chance to complete their tasks if they don't by the end of the Summer, then have a QQ fest until then.. Give Yoshi-P a break!
Of course you haven't, because they're rebuilding them.
People who aren't in managerial positions can't understand the logistics of restructuring an entire company, work flow, teams, and let alone a game engine they themselves have admitted to being a bad idea on multiple occasions.
This is not only a discussion board but also a suggestion board. What do you people expect? "I want to see this thing... but not yet!!!" Lol. Half of the people in here derping at the OP have made request threads of their own. Lol that is so funny!
"Hey SE please do this this and this for me... But you over there, no, bad, that's low priority."
You wanting mounts, and other basic features is YOUR priority right now. Bit hypocritical of you to write out this message. There will always be priorities set within a development cycle. It's your chocobo vs. a strong battle system. It's natural to prioritize, we do it in life, why wouldn't we apply the same concept into work?
You're missing the point of a gifthorse/vesperia thread. Pick a topic it could be something off the wall or something talked about in the past, complain about how SE should fix or add topic or show a video of what they should add or just complain about SE, have the fan base bicker amongst each other, troll face, rinse, and repeat.
Some of the people on this form are soooooo funny. "I've played Final Fantasy 1-50 (I went into the future just to play more FF), I went to Final Fantasy University and earned a degree in Final Fantasy know-how. I come home from my Final Fantasy job and drink mana potion energy drinks I import from Japan, then I go to sleep in my Final Fantasy bed in my Final Fantasy pajamas and snuggle my cloud plushie. I am SE and FF #1 self proclaimed fan!!!" Lol so you OBVIOUSLY really like FF but that doesn't mean that your ideas are any better than mine or anyone else. If SE doesn't need anymore suggestions they will tell us. Until then you just look stupid walking around posing as the Final Fantasy police.
And if you are having a valid suggestion/point that could be added or improved but certain people dislike it its:
go back to wow!, you're free to leave! :D thats how most threads end/or start getting into flame wars.
The biggest trolls ive seen so far in this forums are the people calling others trolls no matter what they write or propose.
Lol what's the matter, Cirro? Did you fall into that category?
