How dare they!
Abyssea did not make FFXI into a joke. It lets EVERYONE try ALL jobs to 99 fast and put all people on the same playing field on endgame. You still need to practice those said jobs, you still need to know how to play those said jobs, you still need to gear those jobs. And yes you still need to farm and practice those jobs in Abyssea environment. Getting to 99 in a few days or in a few years, it matters not, at the end of the day, you still need to know how to play it.
Knowing how to play at endgame content VS party contents are two different things. Old school party set up is for idiots, killing crab or colibri bazilion times does not make you a better player..... Trying to low man or solo those Abyssea NM will force you to know your job, or you will wipe (this is when level cap was still 80-90, at that time, Abyssea was challenging, you need alliance or full party to advance).
Doing the same DUMB old school party grind in FF14 does not make you a better player. FATE or no fate, killing gazillion normal mobs will make you worse players. The only way you learn your jobs and roles in FF14 is by spamming the same said events (primals) or dungeons over and over and learning the bosses moves and perfecting your rotation. You will not learn your jobs by killing trash mobs gazilion times.... At least you will learn a few things when you kill the Notorious Monster FATE, some of these NMs are a weaker version of dungeon bosses.
Cough..cough.... FFXI is following FF14 style of progression, iLevel gears, dungeons farm with some "currency" to trade gears, just to name a few. At least FFXI is being creative by throwing BCNM battle style for upgrading your artifact gears, and you can select the difficulty now. They are all just the same "walled" progression to give people something to do. Now you have reasons to kill trash mobs in the Adoulin areas to get your "currency seals". So what you are saying is FF14 will soon fail badly... I mean look at FF11 and how bad it is failing now trying to emulate FF14.
Abyssea was great but the reason it sucked was because the jobs it required. It forced people to bring certain jobs and ONLY those. It rendered so many nice jobs useless because they were not able to do the "proc" stuff. Sorry but if I can't play my DNC that I geared out to the fullest because it can't proc and people insist on low manning...screw that =P
Not a very well defined question. To be quite literal, I believe it would be impossible for every expansion in FFXIV to wipe out 6 years worth of work to obtain gear at a level cap of 75 for a variety of reasons..
To the question I believe you were asking, I have no doubt that each expansion of FFXIV will come with new gear sets that are better than the current Best in Slot, especially if the expansion also raises the level cap. It is much easier to create vertical progression gear as its simply a task of bumping applicable stats up a few points each, even more so in FFXIV since there are no added enhancements. Furthermore, it increases the likelihood that the player base will complete the entirety of the added content. The downside of introducing horizontal progression gear sets is that inevitably certain pieces of gear will not be as useful as ones that are already in the game. This results in wasted development time as there is no point in attempting content that doesn't enhance your current gear set other than to complete it for story/fun. This is a business and wasted dev time has a tangible cost that could have been spent elsewhere.
As much as I like Xi the one thing that I dont ever wanna see them take from XI is abyssea, that expansion ruined the game.
I will tell exactly what will happen should they implement anything from FF XI. People will complain. They will complain about the XIV team reusing old content and that they cannot come up with anything original. Even if it were to be a humorous tip of the hat towards XI people will complain about reusing old content.
You can easily go to the Floating City of Nym - it's just a ruin with floating parts northish of Camp Overlook in Outer La Noscea (the zoneline across the Thalos in Upper La Noscea also zones into it). Mobs are around level 30-35ish there, so a level 50 would have no problems.
It was the 3 years of no new endgame content from 2007 to 2010 that caused the game to lose subs. When Abyssea came out I saw a lot of people came back to FFXI because they wanted to finally level up their characters past 75. Once empty LS that had like 2-5 people on it was full again at about 35 people when abyssea was out. There was a surge of returning players when abyssea was launched due to the fact we had no new content for 3 years, that is what caused a lot of people to quit.
Years upon years of Dynamis was far more enjoyable than even a week of Abyssea.
XI was all about playing the RIGHT job.
I played Summoner as main. Sky had no drops for me, Sea had ONE drop from the ix.drg, which the LS never fought because others tried to farm it for the drop so the LS just bought pops instead to save time. Einherjar was useless unless the entire group was Summoners, and there were no drops. Salvage was specifically designed to force you to need every single slot unlocked to become average, so you were not allowed to go there, also no drops. Exp groups never wanted you as anything else than last resort healer.
Every Summoner player I knew quit long before Abyssea because how SE didn't give a crap about the job. Abyssea actually made people play the job again, because it went from "Nothing useful" to "Atma actually can let you get stronger". So from no progression to vertical progress limited to a single zone, it was a huge improvement.
Then they went to VNM and let avatars get +3 attack... yea, it was back to being useless again. Only saving grace where the VNMs who spammed AOE damage so much you had some benefit from having disposable pets. But you don't kill things by being good at dying.
Its better then doing these dungeons over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. I cant understand why people like doing that and why people just want more dungeons.
I liked Abyssea, But pre abyssea I had 5 jobs at cap and post abyssea I had 17 at 99 when I quit.
Because it was so quick to get cap I ran out of stuff to do.
Also all content pre 75 was so easy there was nothing to do.
Then Seekers came out and I lost all my skills on how to play normally I never got into it.
No, god please no. Played XI from NA release til that god awful expansion pack dropped and destroyed everything great I love about XI. Please SE do not make me un-sub AGAIN!
Man I would love to have Abyssea-like content in XIV. Tons of NMs, multiple progression paths, low-manable. I definitely wouldn't mind seal farming to get new AF. Way better than "Oh you capped your points this week, come back next week for your piece of gear." It'd not like it would have an effect on leveling speed, that's already through the roof.
The more I think about it, the more I think this game would benefit from having Abyssea-like content. I miss proccing.
I think i'm the opposite.
Bring me Dynamis content.
There's tons and tons of 4 man, 8 man, solo tasks that can be done. Ok maybe not 8 man, but I can think of 5 events at least that are 8 manned, more like 10.
Give me an epic 24, or if you really want to satisfy, a 48 man mega-fest of death, destruction, and sweet loot.
I know I'm a loner on that though. Think i was the only person in all of Cait Sith that found Dynamis to be an actual fun event.
I would like to think this thread was a ruse.
Then again, I would like to think that every "import X content directly from FFXI even though it's a completely different game" thread is a ruse as well.
I smell troll
what?realmreborn again?when he gonna go to WoW?its been long time since he threaten to leave FF14 and back to WoW if dev not grant his wish
Someone claimed Abyssea ruined FFXI and caused 200k subs lost. Another claimed 60% of subs were lost due to Abyssea. I linked a graph that showed a loss of 150k subs in the span of a year and a half BEFORE Abyssea, because it's the only graph and/or sub numbers I could find. If you'd like to show numbers about how many subs were lost during Abyssea, I'd love to see it. But we all know neither you nor the posters above have any evidence for this.
In any case, what the graph does show is that even if Abyssea lost another 150k subs during its run, it was doing just as well (or just as badly) as the crappy content released before that caused the general decline of the populace. Have fun showing Abyssea "ruined" the game and led to its subscription decline.
Seriously, anybody have any data at all?
I was talking about exping, but even talking about seal mobs you are wrong. Every group needed at the very least BLM and BLU for procs, and THF was often quite useful as evasion tank/TH. Don't forget that there were often seal NMs that were preferably kite-burned, and I often used SCH for that. Additionally, seal mobs (and +2 mobs) dropped multiple different types of tokens, meaning it was easy (combined with the ease of leveling new jobs) to find willing members, if you didn't have close friends in an LS.Quote:
Aside from the fact that if you weren't a WAR MNK or WHM nobody wanted you, yeah sure no job discrimination at all.
But sure, for the tough fights not every job was welcome; many physical DD for example. Perfect balance resulting in all classes being equally welcome is impossible, but Abyssea did a better job of it than any other FFXI endgame event I can think of.
There was only one thing Abyssea got right: the boss model (not the atma stuff, just the bosses). Being able to go with your group when you wanted to go was good.
Worm parties were as bad as fates, but the thing is: XI arrived there out of necessity. Dwindling leveling population made grouping very difficult. XIV skipped the good years and went straight for the mindless leveling.
Big stupid numbers are meaningless when they aren't earned.
I defeated monsters to obtain Atma, and I used those Atma to fight tougher bosses that got me stronger Atma. By definition those Atma were both earned and had meaning. Now, some Atma were just too strong and consequently trivialized the skill required in playing the few jobs in which skill was ever required (eg, WHM), but I hope people aren't trying to justify spending 3 years getting Duelist's Hat by using it as a baseline through which to evaluate "work" done getting an upgrade.
