Quick and easy fix - keep the wards system as it is now, and just add one thing: The ability to buy items direct from the search menu if you want.

Lets not forget the fact (which is even more detrimental) that this has once again pigeonholed the populace into Ul Dah. If you want to buy something, where do you have to go? Ul Dah, making the other cities even more redundant then they already are.
Aside from the absurdity of having to zone floor to floor to buy simple things I have to go to Ul Dah on top of it if I want anything. People who actually believe this system is superior are zealots. My rose-tinted classes didn't come with my collectors edition, I kinda feel like I am missing out of heralding this junk regardless of how clunky and inefficient it is.
So once again, what`s the point exactly, I would still, as the seller, have to go to the proper ward to fill up my retainer`s bazaar when I can do that at a counter too. There is no ``if you want`` because in reality say we get BOTH an AH counter and a MW, 99% of the people will flock over to the AH counter because its more convenient and straight to the point.
The "point" is to give the players who want it, the ability to buy stuff quicker without having to run back and forth all the time.
It's also to appease the other players who actually want to run back and forth all the time, for whatever reason.
Yes, supplying your retainer would still require manual interaction, but that's why I only called it a "quick fix"
If they made it so you logged on and were r50 that wouldnt be breaking the rules
I did give a reason:I said NO, gave reason with logic, so I dont see how that is a NO for the sake of NO but my answer is still NOQuote:
I don't find any part of the wards system to be a hassle. Also I think the wards are much nicer and more pleasant than walking up to a counter for extra convenience.
But if you need more from me, the market wards are personable, sometimes i will see someone buying from my retainer while I'm there and I can chat with them or offer them a deal. I like being able to physically walk through the ward and see all the different ppl selling items it give the game more immersion for me. I like how you can set any price for your items and have a chance for it to sell even if its not the lowest price. People get familiar with whose retainers are whose. I like this, just another thing that makes it more personable. I don't want to go to a counter and instantly have all my items sent to me or whatever, I like going to the retainer seeing what I'm buying, then making the purchase.
They are changing it so you dont have to go to the ward, you can just go to bell and call retainer and place him back in wards.
The only reason I prefer wards is because its a little more interactivity, I get to run to a character, hunt the seller down! Little tedious sure but I BARELY go to the wards so I guess It never bothers me, if I was buying shards all time sure but I buy 10k and lasts me a while. And i've not paid for gear in a long, long time.
NO to the AH.
The AH caused similar problems in Jeuno and later Whitegate in FFXI. And the same fix can be applied.
The marlet wards should be expanded. Along with ways to discern HQ items and personal retainer price history.
Or, have stands be outside of the MW, such as camps and outside cities.
NO
I would like to see some solutions to fix ward crowding and get people to spread out to other city wards, perhaps by linking them if they can. I want to see further improvement on wards before they even think about an AH. I mean, try all that they can before giving up on it as a lost cause. Also other improvements like saying in the search log if an item is +1, 2, or 3.
I don't feel they've tried all they can to make the wards better yet. I don't feel it's time to give up. They've improved so much already.
But if the wards don't work out and we end up having to have an auction house I'm not going to be upset about it.
And this:
Or they could just, OH I dunno, link the AH to all three cities? Can you do that with the MW? Dunno, does that mean if I go into the Grid one I am magically in the Ul Dah one if I want something? MW are stupid and cumbersome. An AH is more efficient in every way. Period.
I like the wards. They are immersive. Like a real-world marketplace.
In a medieval or renaissance city, nobody bought supplies at an auction house. That would be ludicrous.
If lag and crowding issues can be resolved, then resorting to buying from a menu at a central location would be a step backwards in game evolution.
Of course, if the technical issues are insurmountable, we may have to settle for the inferior solution of an auction house type setup.

Yea, that`s why SE made the wards, for immersion! (sarcasm). If they wanted to immerse you they would`ve fixed a million other things in the game before even thinking up the market wards. They would`ve made the world more lively, made temples, dungeons, they would`ve incorporate Chocobos and Airships already, they could`ve done a million other things. This has nothing to do with `fitting in` its simply so they charge you for extra retainers in the future. Some of you seem to be ok with that.

This thread isnt a poll
its mack trying to preach to everyone why we should have an AH
seriously, if your gonna make a poll, make a poll, dont turn it into you trying to convince everyone to side with you to win votes
Please don`t turn this into a personal thread, I know your ego is large but keep it with you at home and try and stay on topic. Funny how in another thread you remembered my name because apparently `we don`t get along` I had no idea who the heck you were I was just humoring you. Now stay on topic so this thread doesn`t lock and don`t take anything too personally, there`s more important things in life than a video game.
I've said this in another thread, but I think the wards could be linked to help spread out the population.
Came up with one idea..
Say you're in Ul'dah and you enter the ward there, but it's full so you decide to set up your retainer in Limsa. Then as you go to exit the ward, the menu pops up to leave the area, move wards, search. etc. but with new options "teleport to Limsa wards," and "teleport to Gridanis wards." A fast and free trip to wards of another city. Set up retainer there, shop there. Fast and easy. Then when you exit you're put back in Ul'dah (or wherever else you entered from.) So you can use other city wards but not get a free teleport to that city.
It won't fix everything of course, but I feel it's a step in the right direction to spreading out the wards.
NO
I like the wards, I don't want an AH. Not going to explain it any more than that because all I see is you asking people a 'poll' question of yes and no and then making defend their answer and then telling them they are saying no for the sake of no.
You never asked people to explain in your OP, you just asked them to say Yes or No and I say No.
I'll treat this as a poll, so...
No =)
No
If markets wards exist.
Yes
If market wards are removed.
I don't like the idea of both, I would say one or the other.
Just for you I added a disclaimer in the opening post but all I did was respond to people`s responses, much like we are doing in the other `poll`thread that asks about seamless world or not. But I understand if I`m not with you I`m your enemy sort of thing, well rest assured I don`t even care about you so don`t take anything I say personally please.
I'd give you 1000 thumbs up but the forums will not let me.
<3 you Kai

YES
Because SE's only solutions to the wards' problems are to either add more wards (which will backfire eventually), and make it more like an auction house. And in MMO terms, all an "auction house" means to me is some simple to use, central spot to obtain goods being sold by other players. The wards are currently, for all intense purposes, an auction house that makes you run around. And as it becomes more similar to a typical AH, the idea of the wards becomes more pointless.
And once this AH is in place, might as well centralize it between all towns and resolve that issue before it happens. Business 101: Sell your goods where people go. And if that is one town, nearly everyone will sell their goods there and the other AHs will be left in the dust. Kinda like the wards are now.
The thing that most people who do not want an auction house are fighting against are the things that legitimize the name Auction house. We do not want Timed or Blind Bidding, We don't want Price Histories. I have no problem with a centralized vending system that works like a mix of the market wards and the Final Fantasy AH Search without the bidding process.
IE.
Walk up to counter.
Search for Item.
List of Retainers selling those items and the price are listed.
Click Retainers name opens the Retainers Store. All the retainers items are shown for you, the item you had searched for is highlighted for you.
Click the item you want to buy it, check the retainers other items for possible items you might want.
Items are delivered to you, pay your Gil taxes to the stall. Walk away.
Just don't stuff the Timed and Blind Bidding in there. Without Blind Bidding you don't need a Price History, Because you can see the prices of all the items as is, if you find the cheapest you buy it, If everyones selling the same item for around 500 gil and your wanting to sell the item sell it for around 500 gil. If no one is selling the item you want to sell put it up for what you think is fair for what you had to do to produce or acquire the item. If it doesn't sell in an adequate amount of time lower the price. If it sells quickly and you can't keep stock of the item up then raise the price a little.
I don't see whats so bad about this compromise that most of us have suggested multiple times. We don't want an "Auction House" because we don't want the shitty bidding systems. We have no problems with the Convinence of a central searching location. But we'd still like to have the retainers and Window shopping/impulse buying draw that retainers offer. Hell with this system you don't need the physical wards anymore, just let the search system list all current retainers.
I explained just that in the OP, I said an "AH" in the sense that we have the market wards bundled up into a counter.Quote:

I want the ability to pick up items i want from menu because i am lazy and i dont care how they are going to name it. It could be "auction wards" and i still do not give a flying eff, just let me get items without walking.
As said earlier the wards as they are right now are flawed. Retainers are a flawed idea. God forbid you have 4 different types of items you want to sell and you dont want to pay money for 2 extra retainers(when they start charging for them), you get penalized cause you have to sell in certain wards. The retainer system is counterproductive with the job system of the game. If you have any more then 3 doh/dol jobs you are out of luck not to mention the random items you get in your adventures. The market wards, though an admirable try at uniqueness, are counter productive right now and all they do is hassle you along the way. Not to mention the huge pain in the ass it is to have to city hop to find everything you need sometimes.
What if they gave you a retainer in each ward with some easy way to give them only the items they can sell at lower tax rates without charging extra on the original account fee? Also needed is ability to send a delivery retainer to pick up items maybe? just thinking about what seems kinda fun with these drones lol
only prob is crashing of the wards if they cant fix this then maybe ah wouldnt be bad idea i dont think Tanaka thought about server load when he pitched the retainer idea just add it list of area go to with the market ward and merchant ward
YES to AH
And I want my items delivered to a mail box immediately. If I buy it I want it now.
i wouldnt mind the MW IF the engine and the servers actually could handle it and if the cities (or all future wards) would act as ONE instance (since they are instanced anyways).
But looking at the game now with the few gamers remaining you already have esp. Uldah almost full or sometimes 100% full wards.
Increasing the ward number will make it even worse imo.
And since the engine has so many limitations (you cant even see the retainers in the other room or at the end of the current room if the ward is pretty full since the engine just shows a limited amount of retainer.
As long as the engine and the system isnt made more conveniant an AH (it doesnt need to have a prize history at all) with the current MW features would be fine.
You could still use your retainer to be linked to the AH. So you could still use him and "send" him to the AH.
So there wouldnt be the need of displaying all the different retainers anymore.
I also would love to have very high taxes on people who just bazaar things (0taxes for repairs though) to get them off the streets. I wouldnt mind that if the engine would work as a mmo engine should... but atm its not able to display a lot of npcs/pcs at a time.
