But in all seriousness to the rest, my reason for asking is cause i am trying to get it right. Obviously elitist know how to insult rather than offer ANY advice. My rotation above was modified from a previous post as recommended by a player. As i started at Lv.50 (legacy player) it has been harder for me to adjust but im trying and seeking advice form the more knowledgeable. So any advice but not blah blah blah i'm off to suck on a dummy and cry would be appreciated. As for my annoyance and slightly harsher tone, well the quoted comment says it all no?

Why would you start with touch of death? Completely unbuffed DoT and delaying the building of GL even further. Unless the fight doesn't allow for it I try to wait for GL3 before putting dots up

It was a rotation that was mentioned in one of the other threads, so i have been gathering as it were and trying to get something going. I get your point and the trhead that stated ToD first stated why but it eludes me at present will need to dig it up. On the up note do you have a rotation you could recommend?

Another rotation i found was this:

1. Start the Combat with Perfect Balance followed by the following attacks:

SP SP DS
DK SN Fct ToD SP

2. Start at Point 3 in your Basic Rotation

1. Behind BS TS DS
2. Flank DK SN SP
3. Behind BS TS Flank SP
4. DK SN DS
5. Behind BS TS Flank SP
6. DK SN SP
7. Behind BS TS DS

With B4B and Fracture being up for DoT abilities.

This sound better to you lot?

I'm conflicted how to use PB at the start, I really don't feel running into combat and using it immediately is the best way to go. I generally do something like (on my phone so abbreviating):

Sp

Dk
Twin
<ir>
Sp

<pb>
Sp
<BfB>
Sp
Sp
Twin
Demolish (as pb ends)
Fracture

Touch of death

Then normal rotation of dk twin sp bs twin sp. I always pair demolish and fracture when they need done and redo touch of death when needed. As well as using steel peak and howling fists on cooldown.

I use ID rotation if the mob has < 18 seconds to live which is just dk/bs, twin, id, id, id, sp.

What is with these mean monks running around in this thread o_o Anyway, depending on the fight I would either forgoe touch of death in your rotation if the opponent is a trash mob, or if not, I'd slam it down after internal release has been done, by either doing IR earlier or ToD later. Since DoTs are your highest potency and use whatever buff you had on at the time of execution for it's duration imo it gets you more bang for your buck.

And if you're using perfect balance? Oh baby, I'm crackin my knuckles and getting excited just thinking about it, peppering the boss with ultimate pain. Anyway, with PB I'm actually very fond of SP>SP>SP>BfB>Twin, then for your first set DK>TS>(IR)>DM>FR>ToD. For me it's again, because I like to keep my DoTs fully powered up. Most importantly however, perfect balance you cannot go into stances and will not gain the bonuses from stances such as debuffing the enemy, so dragon kick isn't really an effective maneuver to do during PB.

Sorry for the double post. IMO perfect balance's primary function is to get up your greased lightning to level 3 as soon as possible. Ie-the beginning of the fight, or if you goof and lose GL. So I'd definitely open with it whenever you can. But as for using it in mid combat, hey, if you're confident and wanna burst out some mad dps do it man.

@KaosPrimeZero. Well, I have a pretty set start but after that I just play by ear. But to start DK(for its stregnth)>(BfB)>TS>(IR)>DM>FR. Then I alternate between the serpentine rotation and beat down rotation (ie-DK>TS>SP/BS>TR>SP). Depending on when I've slammed down more buffs/glance up and notice my dots are about to run out, I'll generally slam down my dots right after my serpentine rotation. (DK>TS>DM>FR). But sometimes it'll get into my beatdown rotation instead (BS>TR>DM>FR). Heh, I guess I'll call serpentine with my dots the Venom rotation. xD. But yeah, that generally how I slam down. Also keep in mind I always make sure to take advantage of flanking/back attack bonuses. The only thing that I let slide sometimes is true strike because it's just a 5% increase to crit. Not to say its not important, but a lot of times, especially last boss of AK I only have time to bootshine from the back before I have to escape from a boss's epic maneuver.

I didn't know that, cause I am sure that when PB ends then you don't get the debuff cause you're not in a form. That's why you might've thought so.

I use PB as a damage boost (as in burst damage) more often than not.

For rotations, I think it's simpler just to think of it as a priority rather than a list.
I use bootshine every other rotation (unless I'm uncertain I'll get the crit if the boss keeps turning or such). I use Twin Strikes every cycle and Demolish every 3 cycles (coupled with Fracture).

I time IR with my dots to keep track of it. Touch of Death is nicely timed at 30 seconds, meaning I can have every other ToD running with IR's buff. That 30 seconds is the only timer I might check on actively too since I basically know when my Demolish is going to fall off just by muscle memory.

You can fit 3 Demolishes and Fractures in every minute if you're spot on. That means every 3rd Demolish and Fracture can get IR's buff.
If you use all 3 dots at the same time in the opening, they'll meet back up (roughly) every 3rd cycle along with IR's cooldown reset.

In conclusion, alternate Bootshine and Dragon Kick every cycle. Use Demolish with fracture every 3rd cycle. Use ToD every 30 seconds. Use all of the dots together and their timers will meet up every minute in time for the next IR.
I guess this works cause I haven't gotten Blood for Blood yet. I'll have to figure out how to include it.

EDIT: I would probably use it off cooldown, and it should always affect at least fracture and demolish with a 80 second cd.

Because the cycles aren't that long. this system is totally adaptable. You want to keep your dots, debuffs and buffs up at all times so if you get pushed out you just prioritize those.

i dont have BfB yet but i see from most of you that you usualy dont use IR+BfB back to back and use 1-2 skill between them,why?also most of you seem to use BfB+ir and then apply dot.its not better to just pop those 2 buff after dot and then unleash your dps rotation+instant skill?

currently when i open on boss i usualy do pb-twinS-snap-snap-demolish-fracture-touch of death(PB end and i got my 3 dl stack and my 3 dot up boosted with twinS)-IR-DK-twinS-snap-BS-trueS-snap-DK-twinS-demolish-fract.i also use my 2 instant skill in that,usualy a little after i poped IR
when i will get BfB i was thinking using the same rotation as i mentionned but using BfB then IR and start my rotation after that my 3DL stack is up+my dot.

i would like some tips about a really good rotation to acheive higth dps and some opinion on my rotation,if its good or trash and what i should do for highter dps.

I apply them separately because idk, I'm weird like that. I like it better to weave them between various moves. As for the dots, dots are your most powerful moves. Furthermore, the dots still maintain the effects of your buffs even when your buff is gone as long as it was executed during the buff window. Thats pretty much why. for me.

but does IR really affect dot?if the initial hit of the dot crit,does it also affect the dot thick?

i guess it should be better to open on boss with pb-twins-snap-snap-(BfB)IR-demolish-fract-ToD-DK-twins-snap?

From earlier in thread, somebody posted that they had trouble keeping GL with mnk on titan, please watch this video i made earlier, its not showing off mad dps or pro skills, but it does show nearly 100% uptime on titan, and i think i lose my GL only when he jumps in the air between phases. Hope it helps somebody, regards.

Dot's generally use your stats when they are cast for the whole duration. DoT skills can crit, it just doesnt return a ! when they do, only 50% more dmg on the tick. So it stands to reason that IR would improve the damage of DoT skills.

Also wouldn't it be better to go something like: DK -> TwS -> Snap -> (PB) -> Snap -> (BfB) -> Snap -> (IR) -> Demo -> ToD -> Fracture -> DK -> TwS -> Snap ?

Anyhow, has anyone done the calculations for stat weights? How does DET / CRT / SKSP work out against each other. I would assume for Monk it's CRT > SKSP > DET but I might be wrong...

I seen a video that you should never use true strike unless you're skill speed is 491.... crazy right also I read that DK TS SP is the best and ADD demolish when needed anyone know if that is true or what?

My skill speed is 428. Though no DL yet as working on Vanya for SMN. But i guess with DL and AK gear i should be closer to that figure. So is it better to omit True Strike till i hit the 490-500 bracket?

How about iffy? If i timed GL just right, as in the impact just before he jumped, i was able to maintain it as he jumped down (had to be quick though) but a second late and i lost GL.

Only way you can maintain GL at jump is to have snap rdy to hit otherwise it drops. In that video all of them dropped also my sadness was not because he tried to keep them up or they dropped it was for other reasons :)

has anyone suggested that PGL MNK fist should looks burning/swirling tornado/idk for earth one lol.. when using fist buff ?

Oh i know, and it saddens me to see people complain about MNK. Its a great job, which im still struggling with but am practicing and looking for ideal rotations to maintain everything. All the high end MNK DD's i see use keyboard, sadly im on a 360 pad so i am extremely limited in pallette space which truely sucks. I have tried keyboard but i find it difficult (always been a pad user unless forced to use a keyboard). But yes in 1.0 MNK was my main, i loved it. Its changed in 2.0

I am a pvp focused player waiting for it... :rolleyes: I know ARR seems 99% pve oriented, but I still have hopes that pvp will be at least "decent".

My concern as a MNK is if all that "optimal" skills rotations posted above will work on a dinamic pvp, with targets on perpetual motion. Dont think so. Also we dont have ranged attacks (as BRD, BLM...), neither we can rely on a single and long CD gap closer.

I am curious if Fist of Winds will do this job in pvp.

Skill sets in PvP will be different to that in PvE

Sorry to derail this a little bit, but I was really interested in Monk until I saw the animations.

Don't they seem a bit sluggish instead of fluid? I dunno about you guys, but even without a weapon, the dragoon animations are a lot flashier and I guess "cool" which I think contributes to its popularity.

What do you all think?

Also, shouldn't there be more kicking? I like kicking.

You don't need Mercy Stroke but you will definitely want Invigorate. Rotation seems fine but rotations on paper rarely translate directly to in-game actuality as you're probably aware. Waiting for GL3 to apply ToD is what I do, too. If I'm not doing a PB opening, I usually use Demolish on first rotation since it will be falling off right around the time I get GL3 up to reapply the stronger one; depends on the fight but I typically save PB for "uh oh, lost GL" moments rather than for openers...the only consistent exception is turn 4 start where I PB to spam Rockbreaker on the bugs at the start, otherwise a normal 20s windup is fine because I'll get hate otherwise if I open with PB and burst too hard at the start (with current gear including relic+1 I get about 290 DPS [can we talk about DPS?] on a target dummy over a 90 second window FWIW but that's not a realistic number to expect in real combat--200-250 is more normal for single-target fights without a ton of movement). I generally leave True Strike out in any pass through my forms that I use a non-form skill (like ToD or Fracture) to make sure Twin's buff stays up. I don't have the SS to rotate it consistently.

I'm actually currently at 476 skill speed putting me at a 2.01s GCD (with GL3) so I can afford to work True Strike in (in any cycle that doesn't include a non-form skill, as I mentioned). Current gear stat distribution doesn't allow for much lower than a 2s GCD (looking at an allagan/AF2 mix while maintaining ACC, you really don't gain much SS, mostly STR and Crit gains over melded HQ gryphon/DL mix), but SCH's fairy can help with that. I run into threat issues even without using True Strike frequently, even with well geared tanks because MNK is just strong when played at not-lazy skill levels. Threat not so much an issue on something like Titan where I have to move away every now and then, but fights in turn 2 and 4 it's something to be aware of.

As for hotbar, I keep my skills organized on hotbar by form. http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/3605/8heg.jpg I've since switched Mantra and Second Wind but otherwise the same.

It's not the potency on Crit, it's the average potency by taking into consideration the crit rate.

Hi all, I started a PGL because I really want to be a Monk. What classes more do I need to be able to become one? Is there a quest to lead you in that direction? Or do I just stop being PGL and start other class? And then?

As you can understand I am very new to this game. Hopefully someone can help me.

You need a level 30 pugilist and 15 lancer. Monk can also use abilities from Warriors.
Every 5 levels you get a class quest from the pugilist guild. At 30, you'll do the last one and then you'll see a new quest at the entrance to the pugilist guild which will lead you to becoming a monk.
You will not be able to do this quest if you don't have a lancer at level 15(at least).
Also, the monk soul is equipped (like a piece of armor) when you're pugilist. It's more of a specialization than a whole new class. If you level to 50 as a pugilist, then your monk level will be the same and vice versa.

Skill speed's usefulness is entirely dependent on the amount of bard tp songs you get and how often you have to aoe.
