Unless we fill this whole forum with separate threads of the same topic. Surely they cant ignore that.

It takes "a lot of resources" to create new hair that will pass QA so it looks good in game by the fact it does take manpower to actually create an idea that is feasible in game, create said idea in game, ensure it looks good and doesn't clip too badly with the gear in game, ect. but the style choices seem very lazy considering the devs went so far as to remove the ears from the model. That seems like very little resources went into these choices considering the hair styles are already in game. As someone who has heard them say they are removing content per patch since the HW days it's all become tiresome. So again, how does ESO look now a days? I really gave it the cold shoulder back in the day but at this point i'm willing to give it a shot.
Honestly, while i will say the combat in ESO is a bit oof, everything else seems amazing so far from what i’ve played. (without derailing this thread more than it already has been i’ll just say the zone exploration is very nice and fun, lots of things to go out and look for, fun quests with diverging plots depending on what you choose and hey! They have a lion themed race that can actually wear headgear and has multiple hairstyles without cutting off their ears!)
Not going to read through 61 pages but... has anyone else questioned why Hrothgar can't just wear all hats and have the ears hidden, considering we now have it for hairstyles?
The fact that potential clipping was prioritized over, idk, the ears of a playable race is unacceptable logic. I've said this before when it comes to long hair and hats for Viera/Hrothgar: just. let. it. clip. And that should be the end of the discussion, but no, instead here we are!
I'd be perfectly fine with; Viera ears clipping, and Hrothgar ears being hidden.
For the most part, Viera ears would look fine clipping through most hats, it would look intentional. Hrothgar might look a bit weird, with just the tips of the ears poking through most hats, some of them asymmetrically, but like Miqote, it's plausible for them to be 'tucked' inside.
And how am I arguing? I asked people to take this to the already-popular Viera and Hrothgar complaint thread, where it would have been more suited as it's more likely to grab the attention of moderators. But you're the one who attacked me and then said people on the forum are going to turn their frustration on me? Makes no sense.
You're getting a tad defensive, so I'll leave you to it :)
Funny thing is, even if they somehow miraculously did fix the hair issue, and didn't announce it, these are still the hairstyles hrothgar are getting after 3 years.
I hate twitterspeak but i'll assume you mean slow or clunky. I don't care about the kajit since furry races never really appealed to me (Except Tera's fat cat race, that made every CS a gift from god.) The diverging quests seem really cool but the fact a good chunk of content is behind a paywall is discouraging to me. What's driving me away is the fact that the devs say they are putting a lot of resources into the game but where is the quality? The hrothgar hair thing was just another bullet point to support the case that the devs are really just leaning hard into the laurels instead of taking customer (both na and jp) complaints into consideration. Oh well, at least the music was pretty sweet.
Don't harass the devs though. Expressing disappointment and frustration is fine and all, but don't resort to badgering. It's the quickest way to lose all credibility and reason. As much as we're angry, sad, upset, what have you about this topic, at the end of the day they are still human beings. Giving feedback is all we can do, and if moving this topic over to the megathread is the best way to do so, then it's better to do so.
I don't even play hrothgar and I just don't know what to say to this. When I first saw the pictures I genuinely thought it was some kind of april fool's joke. This is seriously embarassing.
I think that's just it. People lost reason. The problem is that it's not just being upset, it's being upset for having to wait for 3+ years for [something]. [Something] that should be decently good. Not something that have other limitations, such as having Hrothgar's ears cut off. On top of the 2B hairstyle making the whole hairstyle promise look like a joke. It felt like the promise ended up being a lie to brush off the entire race.
It's really bad when the players are so fed up and angry that they're not seeing reason and start lashing out on anyone they see .... but it also shows how much anticipation they had in these couple of years for the developers to make good on their promise for hairstyles. All the pent-up anticipation that led to pent-up frustration.
Hrothgars don't get that many unique things. They don't get hats to wear. They don't get full access to changing hairstyles without fantasia. One of the things that made players stay in this race is because they love the race, and because they believe they will at least get good hairstyles as compensation. Not being given good hairstyles on top of needing to pay real life money for it... when that was one of the major factors that kept them staying as Hrothgar.... That kind of feeling... I say it's very justified.
Im wondering if Im going to get in trouble for even saying that. I was really just being facetious when I made that post considering the amount of contempt towards the devs nowadays but still yeah, the most we can do is just to keep spreading this issue as much as possible.
that's the problem. we hrothgar players are already bracing for the sad reality that we not only still have to fantasia for 2 racial hairstyles per face, but we'll probably have to fantasia for the ugly earless variants as well since they mentioned nothing about fixing the inability to switch at the Aesthetician.
What bothers me a lot is that the dev team's lack of clear communication has made it hard to really speak up effectively against the quality of these implementations. They stayed radio silent while all of the forums exploded with opposition. They said nothing while half of the player base were convinced it was still an April Fools joke, and now they have vague patch notes that don't clarify if we'll need a Fantasia so now another half of the community thinks it's poor wording, meaning that we won't know for sure until it's already in the damn game
I think the part that upsets me the most right now, is that not only do our ears get cut off, not only do we need a fantasia still (apparently, anyway. It's really hard to tell and I'd love some clarification from a developer about it), and not only are these hairstyles just very strange to be putting on a beast race... but they said they're moving hair-related facial features into the hairstyle section. Some people have taken that to mean the "hairstyle" section will be available in the aesthetician now, but like... will it? I take my braids off of my Hrothgar and put them back on all the time. Am I going to have to pay real money to do that now?
Honestly, I didn't really care one way or another about the hair for my character. I like how he looks. But I was excited to see other players being able to differentiate themselves. If we need to fantasia change still though, AND they're locking parts we've always been able to edit for free, behind a paywall now, I just.... this will be the most upset I've ever been at SE. There's little things here and there that make me go "Oh, that's weird, but I can live with it." Not this.
Because cutting corners with Hrothgar development is basically a core part of Hroth identity at this point. But you know, smol indie company and all.
Every other piece of gear shares the same model as the Roegadyn except for headpieces which need to be fit specifically to Hrothgar.
The devs clearly don't have the time or resources to give us proper racial hairstyles. They're hastily working on much more important features, like parasol poses. Please understand.
I love my character, I've built a story around him. But the thing is...this feels like a lot of low blows. Not only have I had to pay to give him minor changes that other characters can go to the hairstylist for, Ive waited..and waited for promised changes and now this. Im being told by my FC to wait and see, that the writing is 'vague at best' and the options are all going to be changeable at the hairstylist. I dont believe a word they are saying. Cutting the ears out of the new styles was laughable and sad. They clearly dont care about the hrothgar. It would be better at this point to just delete the race. You dont like them, admit it. You spent so much time fine tuning the veira and making them look nice and fancy and we get what, little tid bits and should be happy with it? Hell no. Im tempted to either fantasia to something else(though this would ruin years of story behind my character and truthfully I just..ugh) or just..stop. It hurts to play a game when no one wants you to play.
I told you guys this wasn't an April fools joke. :c
Yes, a few words that would clear major points up, would already help. Especially about the Fantasia. Currently people are outraged not just because of the new hairstyles, but also about the things that they don't know. And I'd personally rather like to know what I exactly I am angry or worried about, apart from "ears are important, gimme ears" of course. I asked on Twitter below the tweet about the patch notes for a bit of clarification. But I doubt I'll get a reply, not because the social media team is mean but because it's likely they also don't know. They are not the devs after all, and I suppose it is already week-end in Japan.
I'm afraid we just have to wait and see how it will be on Tuesday, and what the devs might say in the patch note reading. I just hope people don't start outright harassing the devs - or the mods and social media team for that matter. I understand the frustration (as I've stated plenty in this thread), but bullying them won't change anything this close to patch release.
The only reason for the vagueness that I can think of is that they're not sure how much work they can do without delaying the rest of the patch, so they're keeping everyone in the dark until last minute when they can take what they have and pawn it off on us with the promise that they'll fix it later.
Apparently Zepla has made a new video regarding the situation. Good to see even the most beloved of SE's streamers taking a stand against what is quite frankly a ridiculous situation that has gone on for far longer than it should have.
That's cool. :) Checked her channel a few times for updates in general, but I also didn't expect her to do something about this now. (She really has a lot of other things on her plate after fleeing her country and learning about what happened to her old suburb since then.) It's awesome that she still takes time for addressing this, with all the other changed in patch 6.1 many other streamers have their focus on other content. (Which I don't blame them for, everyone has their own priorities.)
Good stuff. Never watched any XIV Content Creators but if they're being vocal about this too, I'm glad. Most MMO communities would say "If you don't like it, play another game" and excusing how things are. I love YoshiP and the dev team, genuinely they are all great, but I'm just... happy that this community will actually voice when things aren't okay. Not out of entitlement, but because we pay monthly for this game and deserve a say, I think.
was funny for sure, I was hoping that she (or another highly viewed content creator) would make an educated and more serious video about this situation, with live letter receipts and summarized representation of how the community is feeling about it. BUT it's still exposure and she certainly called the quality out. So that's still good
Asked around for dropping some tests, and the results are... tad baffling.
Having a full vanilla Viera world has the same impact as higher poly + 4k textures Hroth.
Both vanilla gives 5-10% more fps with Hroth only.
No true measures set, but even those samples tell a bit about stuff, maybe. So let the results sink a bit.
It's a piece of meta data, and actually other races have a "Show<insert race here>Ear" (yes, all other races, too) flag, while Hroth and Viera have a "Show<Race>Hat" - Viera with the additon to (not) show ears as well already. So maybe they're already working for a Viera like solution. But my guess stays like stated a text before: Squeenix seems more likely to chop our ears after all.
Additionally not only with helmets, but also hair styles, with bad luck. It's a quick and easy solution to deliver anything, literally.
With all that extremely vague information set so close to release date, I let do the +20% insecurity do their work. And just wait for the final results before an unnecessary war will be started (or more likely joined) by my side. No need to yourselves ruin the weekend, yes-no?
