The game is to old at this point and I think a lot of the damage as been done. Don't really think there is a way to keep it going.

Being tied to PS2 is hurting it a lot as well but nothing you can do to change that really.
Age has nothing to do with it, at all. WoW is still king of the MMOS, and lets be honest Abyssea blew us all out of the water. It totally changed and invigorated the game for us all (that gave it a fair try), they can do that again easily...it's just down to if they want to. As for PS2, they can drop support for that if they wanted to.

Also if any serious long time player moves to FFXIV I hope you get burned again by them in the future, it's one thing to get it from FFXI but to know how they operate and willingly go back into bed with them for another MMO is asenine.

Also if they can't keep the XI playerbase happy (which isn't hard honestly, just add more content and don't make it punishing) then what hope do they have actually running and turning around a game everyone hates?

Its already be discussed before. Its not as simple as just dropping the ps2. They would have to rebuild the game from the ground up and they don't have man-power to do that anymore.

I'm taking a small break from XI til the 99 Relic / Mythic / Emps are all sorted out, since after seeing HMP play out, the deja vu is strong with this one. I was only 1/3rd the way done with Stage 4 EXCALIPOOR with a month of dedicated play, but it was an amazing month where me and another player were duoing and making great strides in progress on our weapons. I felt that it was a nice time investment challenge for players who wished to undertake it, and enjoyed the fact that it wasn't like the past, where poor game design forced the playerbase to cannibalize one another to ultimately have one person standing with the prize of a completed Relic. Remember that in old Dyna, many members would put the time in to complete someone's Relic, yet at best the helpers would only gain Relic armor as compensation, and with the news of needing to kill Arch level bosses multiple times to complete someone's hard work, it looks like they wanna turn the clocks back and party like it's 2005 again for anything worthwhile.

Now... It's just becoming clear that the game is going in a direction I don't agree with, unless they can pull a rabbit out of their hats like Yoshi-P has with XIV to invigorate Vana'diel once more. The biggest problems I see is that the playerbase has aged, and for awhile there the devs were making content with that fact in mind. Now the content, as well as drops involved are getting much more time sink in nature whilst the rewards are somehow giving diminishing returns. Back to 1,500 HMP to make most weapons gain... 3-5 DMG and I think... +2 to their weapon's stat strikes me as a very good example of recent design to support my claim.

Anywho, bought The Old Republic and WoW this month since I wanna see how SE is going to handle all the player backlash, and hopefully they'll give a reasonable challenge that we can all accomplish as a team, like Divine Might's optional fight that granted great rewards for everyone, not just for a single player. If they keep the game stagnating and want to make it where only that .3% of the playerbase will ever have a chance to finish their hard work in their weaponry, then hey, I got me some viable backup MMOs now that seem to understand we pay to have fun with our playtime.
