...the three grand companies would be at war every time. The world is just so huge and beautiful. Imagine an open world PvP with three factions batteling each other. With company keeps in dedicated frontier zones, 1 zone for each company with 8+ keeps.
I really love this game by its art and gameplay, but I dont know why I am even playing it, since PvE is the only option.

Maybe you should play a game with PVP instead then? Storywise a war between the three nations of eorzea would be stupid given how the guilds are spread out (thereby locking anyone not from Limsa or Gridania out of having healers at all), and how you have to visit all 3 nations holdings to reach 50, and how lorewise, if the 3 nations were at war we'd be easy pickings for Garlemald

It wouldn't make any sense, lore wise. We (the grand companies) are fighting a greater threat together. Fighting between the three companies is the last thing we need right now.
If we do get future PvP content, I either hope it's opt-in or in an arena, or that PvPers get their own servers. I really don't need people ganking me while leveling because they're bored. -

If a feature doesnt make sense lore wise then it shouldnt be in the game. Period. Wow decided not to take this route and the Lich king (one of the most powerful beings in azeroth) was killed 1 day after blizz released him.

I agree the idea is good, in theory, but doesn't make any sense in this game!
Perhaps an expansion later down the line might intro a new faction (I dare not say Empire as I am not all the way through the story yet so don't know if anything happens there that might prevent this), or go down the WoW route where they just magic up a race/faction out of nowhere that no-one happened to notice before...! -

While not exactly what you are hoping for, you may want to look into Frontlines. I believe it's schedules for 2.2, so about 4-5 months off. While not fully open world PvP, it is GC vs GC battlegrounds which - as described - would be a more free-form style PvP than Wolf's Den.

This game would be awesome if it hadn't been hit by the "vertical progression" bug, and if they hadn't dumbed down the combat and itemization badly and forced cheap boss mechanics (like a thousand 1-shot moves or a metric fuckton of adds) to keep things challenging.

Open world pvp is the worst idea ever. Sure it worked in 2D grindfest games back in the day where killing someone was really tough and the penalties for dieing would make you cry. Guilds would war each other for months and a players reputation meant everything since servers were small.
For todays MMOs all open world pvp means is, gank half hp players trying to complete quests for absolutly no reason. The best way to currently do pvp in an mmo is instanced zoned that you queue for and compete against roughly even oppoents for pvp gear. -
