crafting a waste of time.

SE really needs to make crafting recipes that are worth making every single recipes is useless, unless its for relic weapons.
GC weapons or primal weapons is all you need to work your way up to the relics

i mean theres is no point at all to make armor when you can easily get full set of armor from quest & AF for free then theres already new people with darklight sets it completely kills crafting.

nothing is up to spec even with materia crafted gear is garbage.
goldsmithing is all that will be useful, till you get darklight that is. gathering & crafting gear is it and thats the minority of the game most people are full blown fighting jobs.

Also, nobody is going to meld tons of primal weapons into materia, so they'll load up on crafted gear to spiritbond instead. Just because it's not the absolute top tier doesn't mean it's a waste of time.

My Alkalurops HQ says hi. It will suffice until I get my relic.

My Darksteel Haub HQ says hi. It's better than the Darklight Cuirass IMO because I can meld to it.

crafted gear with materia caps are useless also most the time you cant add the materia you need on it and if you do it give a fat zero.
people get free quest weapons and only need one job to grind seals for there GC weapons and after that grind primals.

I'm sure you'll need spirit bond parties again in the future to get all the materia you need... those burn through gear like nothing else.

I actually agree with the OP. Crafting gear and armor does feel useless.

Do they still sell on the Market Wards? Yes
Do people need to buy them? Honestly no and I'm surprised when people do buy my weapons.

That's another issue I have with crafting + materia. I have a Mailbreaker (level 70 green crafted sword) and I can't even put a materia III or IV in it without it being nerfed down due to reaching some cap.

Makes me wonder what those materias are even needed/used for. Even the relic weapons require weapons with tier III materia inside. And endgame dropped gear doesn't allow materia attachment.

I'm only level 30, but so far... The weapon I get from my Class quest are enough to keep me going. And the armour I get from the main story line is also all I need. Perhaps it will be different for Gathering/Crafting classes (equipment wise).

But mayhap, the first 50 are not so crucial, and what comes afterwards (and 'difficult' recipes) is where the challenge will lie ^.^

The problem is that unlike the V1, ARR gives a lot of equipment parts by completing quest, whereas in V1, equipment parts recived by completing quests was more rare, and NPC's shops prices were very high compared to auction hall. SE should re-balance that, give more money by completing quests and FATE events, less gear, and crafting will get more important.

Well you see after the low level quests for geat is exahusted more and more will turn to the market boards for gear. But it would be nice if low level materia was more useful.

My Sarnga HQ with Critical Hit IV and Determination IV materia says hello. Beats the Primal weapons and is perfect before I finish Artemis Bow. It is also a very attractive looking bow ingame.

Pre-end-game weapon and armor crafting is indeed a waste of time...

I can understand giving gear for the first 25 levels through quest, but after that it should have stopped and make players rely on crafted gear instead. This would have made it a balanced economy.

As a crafter, I haven't have the motivation to craft gear since I don't see the point of it.

So far, I've been more focus on crafting material and mining.

But crafted gear has not been productive at all. At least not yet.

Instance & quest weapons. The only point of making a crafted weapon is to HQ it, as opposed to buying a NQ from a vendor.

OP has a point, crafting does feel rather redundant and forced at the moment. I still enjoy it (granted I've only got goldsmith to 20 something right now) but I'm sure the novelty will wear off once I'm on my 7 millionth craft.

Pretty much all of the two star battle crafted gear is better than its darklight counter parts HQ'ed and properly melded. You can argue lower level crafting is worthless maybe (even though their HQ versions are better than the crafted/trash gear you get), but end game crafting is not.

Dude...I wear mostly HQ items that I make. It makes a noticible dent in my leveling & crafting scores. I love being a weaver.

The game hasn't been out for long enough for the crafting to become more viable. With spiritbond on gear limiting re-sale, once most people are done with their first run through the quests then buying from crafters will become the only way to get equipment.

The game has only been out for just over a week, I'm sure after a couple of months things will improve ^^

Well duh, you realize that some people dont want to do quest or dungeons to get the equipment? They just want to buy them as its more convenient.

Actually... Most people will would normally respond with "dungeon loot or quest handouts" he is right, as much as i try to rationalize crafting gear, it trully is not worth it, HQ or not. This game rewards players for nothing wayyyyyy tooo much ;/

Look at it this way: For crafted gear to match up to dropped gear it must be materia-melded, prefferably HQed.

As long as the items have the same Item Level and go in the same slot, [i]they all have the same stat caps[/], wether it is a Cane of the Crags (Primal drop) or an Alkalurops (crafted), they're both IL70, their stat caps are the same.
And the Earth Resist and Determination on the Cane of the Crags is not NEARLY as good as Critical Hit+ you can meld into the Alkalurops. However, the Cane of the Crags has 18 PIE, as high as it GETS on an IL70 CNJ 2h weapon, so you can only get your Alkalurops's PIE as high as that too. But the advantage that the Alkalurops has is that every stat on it is useful, because you put whatever YOU want on it

Can we say crafting AF and Gathering AF and Milita off hand tools....I knew you could

It doesn't just match it, it's superior in every way. It also allows for more customization. An example is the two star jewelry rose gold ear screws allows for +9 str/dex +10 vit +9 crit, +6 determination, +9 crit, +9 skillspeed. Show me a dropped earring that doesn't come out of Bahamuts Coil that is superior. It takes work but this whole thread is complaining about how easy drops are superior to crafted gear. Even then, for a tank you can customize an earring like this to be better than the coil jewelry, hence why it takes so much philosophy stones to buy the rare mats and attempt the synth.

Dont see all the hate on crafting I have my next gear already crafted for my glad. and I have all the gear up to lvl 20 crafted for my con. so when I finish I finish quests that give armor I can get the money pouches instead.

Speaking as a pure crafter gatherer, i disagree.
I think the story quests for these jobs lays out the game design perfectly.

Can can cheaply and quickly make normal gear. Any one can.
Or you can make something that someone will keep in their inventory for a lifetime.
HQ items are money.

The only issue I have is with the quest drops.

The markets are flooded with lvl 1-40 gear (from quests) that is selling for ~10% of the total cost of the mats to make it.

Quite frankly, this makes crafting NQ weapons, items, and items a useless grind as we lose money on every craft and are unable to actively participate in the markets.

Proposed solution: Reduce the overall volume of gear and weapons and items given as quest rewards, and/or have quest rewards instantly bind

(BTW, at this point it's much better to accept the currency as a reward than to try selling the gear. You get much more gil that way.)

Remember that (at least in theory) quest rewards should drop off in a month or two when most folks have blown through all their quests leveling their first couple jobs to 50.

I think they should increase the amount it costs for npcs to repair gear and lower the cost of mats for pcs to repair. This will allow crafters to turn a profit on repairs, offset some of the gold sinks which other threads have expressed concern over as well as create a close player to player community.

Crafting is awesome to get HQ gear (and to produce lots of trash gear to turn to materia) while you're leveling. After 30, class quests don't provide you with free gear, and once you finish the story with one class, you're pretty much out of quests and ways to get easy/free gear.

Once you're in that situation, there's dungeon, and crafted gear.

Once you're at 45-50, crafted gear CAN beat some of the AF, endgame gear or other things, but it often requires HQ made of hard/rare to find components + appropriate materias. So in a nutshell, crafting feels "most" useful to me from 30 to 45. Before that, people fly through levels and have gear rain down on them, and after that, it's only comparable to other easier alternatives for the truly dedicated crafters.

You can't repair other player gear anymore, as far as I know... So yeah, XPing/turning profit out of repairs is out of the question at the moment?

As a LV 40 Pally ive never purchased anything from crafting that i didnt need to turn in a quest. All my gear comes from runnign dungeons, plain and simple.

I wish they would change it so you just received gil/experience as quest reward, with maybe an occasional piece for a major quest completion. Too much gear to effectively use given how quick you level and therefore outgrow your gear. Given how easy it is to level they should make gear come primarily from crafters.

As someone that prefers to dps, I cann't rely on dungeon diving for gear. I can, however, keep all my equipment up to par much easier through crafting. Sure, I can try to luck out on quest rewards or even going to the npc armor vendors. But I can't count on quests to give me everything I need/want. NPC gear is starting to get quite pricey. I'm also at the point it's cheaper to start buying the darkmaterial for my own repairs than to continue to use NPC repairs.

Have you tried seeing if there is a "Request repairs" similar to "Request Meld"?
I know that they shifted melding proactiveness from the crafter to the client, the client has to find a crafter and then ask him for a meld, whereas before the client set a public melding flag and the crafter had to find a client.
Maybe repairs work the same?

While dungeon drops edges out HQ gear at level, Aetherial is usually equivalent, and getting a full set of Green dungeon gear every 5 levels is a lot more luck and work than getting HQ'd everything (at a near 100% rate on NQ mats) from crafters.

Also, goldsmithing is such a good way to make accessories, which are quite a bit harder to get "en masse" from dungeons. Not to mention, you can convert to materia an entire set of jewelry and replace it by an identical set with very little effort -- lots and lots of materias stacking up in my retainers thanks to my goldsmithing.

I know about the new "Request Meld" interface, but I haven't actually asked anyone to try to "request repairs". I'll check tonight with FC-mates.

For your primary character, sure. For your secondary character roles, no. You mean my LNC str/dex gear doesn't help my conjurer out? Absolutely. Unless you plan on carrying Level 5, 10, 15... gear for both DoB and DoM you won't have enough gear to fill out both via dungeon crawls. Crafting fills this void.

ILVL 70 crafted HQ gear with materia is equal to the best gear in the game. Crafting is incredible. For SCH, goldsmithing accessories are better even if not HQ or materia'd because you want crit and MND.

one of the biggest annoyances is i have to switch to the crafting class i want to repair certain gear. they should just allow you to repair it regardless of what your current class is, as long as you meet the requirements on your crafting class
