Crafting More Exciting Than Battling? Heck YES!

Greetings!

Just watched the alpha video of crafting and let me just say that the changes to the crafting system are AMAZING! It's like SE consulted both Bob Vila and Bob the Builder on making their crafting system. Good job SE! Crafting seems less monotonous than it was in 1.0, and when compared to the alpha battle video it seems more exciting than even battling monsters (though I don't know if this is a good thing or not if you don't like to craft :confused:)

I agree!!! I normally don't gather or craft but now I'm just excited to. I might even cook. The only thing I don't like are the hp bar near monsters far away from the player, it seems to ruin the atmosphere of the area.

i like it thought i thought the one thing that wasn't really broken at 1.0 launch was the crafting. yes slow,

yes things needed to be added from ingredient/recipe lists and faster crafting/easier method for all items to go in craft box but in general the crafting was much more in depth. it started off like how ffxi ended at rank 75. needed other crafts for your own craft, need for some items to use other items ..like 1 wand in recipe for another. (though that is i think still in there.) also the need for some sub crafts(but that might come)

in general just seemed better the old way. but i like the less items needed personally and i love the in game recipe list and gathering looks good too. also glad they making melds simpler and easier, hopefully they won't effect game content epic gear loots(hoping it does the opposite and they planning on making content gear the best not melds). but yeah it will be good, though lol not better then battles i hope.

I "got a feeling" party grind exp will be hella fun with ARR battle system tho...

but crafting, just click here and there and I can make stuffs from different recipes. it's super cool. I wonder what the skills we learned later lv will do.

I don't get it, is there something I'm missing. It looks almost exactly the same as it did before? Whats so significant in gathering and crafting other than the more detailed readouts on what you are gathering an the status of your synthesis?

Looks the same as before but you choose your actions on the hotbar as opposed to a pop up box. Pretty much looked the same to me. Doing this for hour and hours at high level won't be that fun either.

I'l agree that crafting looks better in this version than the last. But more exciting than battling? How? Did the OP and I see the same crafting video? :confused:

It's not the same, though. In 1.0, you started each craft with 100 durability, and durability loss was governed by the RNG. Now, the starting value for durability varies per item, and durability loss seems to be arithmetic and based on the skill being used.

Also, instead of only being able to use skills once, you can use skills as many times as durability and your CP pool allow. It looks like crafting is now going to be about managing resources, leaving the end result much more in the hands of the crafter.

In 1.0, crafting was still too random to feel like it was skill based. Yes, you had to decide when the right time to use your skills was, but failing a synth too often felt like it was out of your control. In ARR, if you fail a synth, you have no one to blame but yourself.

hmm...

• 1. to start a synth is faster and easier

• 2. I think it's more challenge & fun to get HQ, yet more stable

• 3. easier to lv up

the system in general it looks different. but if you look carefully, there is a weird bar down there call CP and each icon has a red number same color as CP bar. so I think these are, like MP, every time you try to boost quality you cost CP and your durability. The green icon has 66 cp I think, but it charge back 30 durability... and again, this is only low lv9 lv range. I bet at higher lv has more fun ability to play with.

By the way, if your eyes are sharp enough, you see when that kitty go to lv 10 the #2 ->24 and #3->70 red value increased too with total cp 142->147 is also increased... how's that going to change the whole synth process... /think

also, food, gear and boost... what to choose... craftmanship, m. craftmanship (/trap) or is there any way to +CP... can't wait to get my hands on it. /wink


3. look at that kitty's gained exp, just 2 successful "standard touch" she got 92% increase in exp. and exp bar just fly up a big chunk

If there's no wrist-flick then of course battling would be boring, since you have no way to defend yourself.

I do appreciate the breakdown though.

What I am confused about is, what is the point of tracking durability when you have CP?! If you run out of CP or Durability do you have a lesser quality item? or is it like 1.0 and you completely fail synthesis and lose item?

Totally agree with you Nayto, I would love it if Gatherers had a way of defending themselves in some way in dangerous areas without having to switch classes.

I would love it if you could import skills from your other classes that you have leveled. No restriction, other than using Job abilities. And while you can USE these abilities, thats all you get. The privilege to use them. You may have a Scythe, or Hatchet as a weapon, but it has weapon damage stats equivalent to the level of the tool. And of course, you don't earn XP for Gatherer by fighting or earn XP for any class either. You only earn XP by gathering with that tool equipped.

So while, being an Gather, Harvester, or Fisher would not be terribly useful in a party, your not defenseless gathering either!

So Yoshi-P please, add this!!!! However, I have a slight inkling that he has already, they just haven't confirmed it. :D

If you run out of durability your synth fail.
If you run out of CP you can only use the standard synth skill (which cost 0 CP), but you can still reach 100% progress. The CP is the new limit how many skills you can do during a craft (instead of 5 skills, each skill once). The CP increase with level up. In the video it increase from 142 to 147 after the level up.

I wish people would have this mindset about the battle system instead of "I think the GCD is too slow" or "You'll run out of TP too fast on harder mobs"

At lv9 you can see you need 23 progress to complete, and each Standard synth give you 12. so you need 3+ action chances to complete (cus multiple of them might fail). then you have 3- other action slots to use whatever, probably Standard touch. However that will need 66CP. you have 142 so not a big deal. You will have 10cp left. if you failed any of them you still have 86 cp to pop master's mend to get 3 more action chance. then you out of cp can't do anything but progress. if you can somehow hax and add 12 more cp, you gain one more chance to standard touch.

At lv10
#1 0CP
#2 24CP
#3 70CP

However, despite the ridiculousness of it. I think it would add an interesting amount of comedy to XIV.

Sure you wouldn't expect a Fisherman to be in a battle party, but the simple fact that he's there whackin' mobs with his fishing pole with the best Gladiators and Paladins around is enough to make ppl chuckle.

And the fact that he's not totally useless, is an added touch ;)

I'd pay money to see weavers get that.

The markets will flood with goods from how simple the crafting system looks. It's going to be hard for merchants like myself to find a profit. XD

For the first 20 levels, I doubt anyone's going to buy any low level equipment. Not with how easy it is to produce them yourself.

I don't really think that's going to be the case. Look at crafting in some other MMOs, where all you have to do is click a button and the item is made. You can still make a profit in those games.

Also, in those games, even though crafting takes no effort whatsoever, not everyone crafts. There are still going to be a lot of battle-class-only players in ARR.

this. and dont forget the roadblock to get access to armoury system. new player will find difficulties at beginning to switch to other DoH, since you need to be at lvl 10 first in your battle class, and then registered to each guild to be able equip the tools....

I wouldn't exactly call it "exciting" (crafting is never "exciting" in any game IMO), however I do really like how the process is more streamlined and intuitive- retaining the item construction process that made FFXIV's crafting unique while also making it less unwieldy and slow.
