Can't believe I ever noticed the healerstrike or lack of healers thereof
Maybe for (as the usual) vocal squeaky wheels thinking they made any progress, but I don't think they ever got enough grease.
There was no shortage that I noticed, and didn't matter which job I played, raids were being filled as fast as you joined them.
Maybe we'll see some needed changes in 8.0 perhaps? No one knows, really. I didn't necessarily disagree with that movement, because legitimate concerns are brought up, but denying access to a job completely to affect others wasn't really noticed in the actal game. I don't believe large percentage of players visit this forum, myself included except once in a while. After the nausea subsides every 6 months or so.
I did not precipitate in the Healer strike because I see it as counterproductive to force people to work without you when the goal is to show that you are needed.
But the way it is going no one really believes that 8.0 will bring any meaningful change. It still has to work with the current encounter desinge which in the first place is at fault that jobs get dumbed down.
So in a way I gonna join the Healer strike by giving up on this game entirely devs have shown they have 0 intent to change the way it is going. Back when I still believed the devs are at least working towards appeasing the complains of homogenization and die Rouletts dayli with the fill in option on to help people getting Dungeons,Trials etc. But since 7.2 I barely log in anymore and when then only to help a friend with certain content.
It never was a thing.
You had a 10k long thread of people saying "Let's not queue for stuff, that'll show 'em", but then nothing happened at all.
It is/was all bluster of a vocal minority.
The healer strike was never an actual strike. Just people voicing discontentment with the state of the role.
SE should probably be more concerned about the wider player strike than the healer strike. We're back to Stormblood numbers. :/
I don't really think there was ever a strike.
It's a combination of things that sort of kicked it off, so to speak, from what I remember..
Firstly, it was just a mountain of people that have been discontent with healers for a while (whether rightly so is not for me to judge), and then some guy making a thread that kind of just gathered everyone in one place on a general discussion, which I think was a consequence of some people doing the dungeons in the media tour for Dawntrail without a healer, despite, even though the dev team were supposedly aiming to make everything more stressful generally. Then it really gaining more public traction as a result of it sort of being intertwined with previous point about media tour, in addition to the game effectively being in a perpetual bore at the end of the expansion, so people were just looking for a topic, and at the time that happened to be the topic.
So, it never really was a thing, just a thread of people airing their grievances.. So never was, never will be, and to be honest the people that cared enough to make or contribute to the thread in the first place have probably come to the stark realization that Square Enix just really doesn't care.
Cosmetic is an apt description for the gameplay of any class, to be honest.
Didn't really affect the game but it did spread awareness of healer issues in the community. I think it's more a result of being bored with the game rather than being bored with healer gameplay.
It never was a meaningful thing to begin with. The number of people involved are barely the proverbial grain of sand on the beach compared to the size of the playerbase, and even within that little group, there was no united message (but plenty of straight-up contradictions). The changing goalposts, changing rationales...ultimately, it felt like a small group of people that just wanted to be the center of attention for the sake of being the center of attention.
No one’s going to read 1100 pages of that thread, especially when a few hundred of them are bickering and a couple people commented enough to take up 50 pages by themselves.
I think the idea of a lack of a unified and cohesive argument holds true.
Whatever you see here on the forums is a tiny minority. If you actually go off the forums and play the game for 1 day you realize this. Even at the height of the strike thread and all its media attention, you would be matched with healers in roulettes. The vast majority of casual players don't pay attention to veteran or hardcore players making noise on the forums:
- You will still meet healers in roulettes.
- You will still meet them in PF.
- You will still be able to join parties as a Machinist.
etc
Not saying their concerns aren't valid, but the majority of players are too new or casual to care about these 10 year player concerns.
Yes it's a thing, but the post is 50% requesting support from healer mains from rest of community that something has to change. It is not intended to stop people from playing healer. The post is highly populated and people can say what they want, but dev team gets list of the top forum posts from each region daily so they are seeing it.
I really feel like if that was the case, a lot more issues would get addressed such as the cosmic progression issues many worlds are facing. At best it's probably once a month, causing lots of posts to be missed. And most likely the focus is on the other forums because this is a General forum and posts fly by really fast here. Sometimes they are page 2 the same day they were made.
As people pointed out, it was never a thing, and made no difference to most of the playerbase. Yet. The combination of every "small" problem the game has will eventually have an impact on its future, if unaddressed. Right now, FFXIV is seeing a record number of players unsubbing, and some of those are healer mains.
The forums have always been an extreme minority, if the devs listened to the forums they would come away thinking the entire playerbase is schizophrenic.
"We want change!"
"Ok we've made the change."
"NOOO WHY DID YOU CHANGE!"
The only other forum I've come across that is just as inconsistent and whiny as the FF14 forums is the the WoW forums.
The healerstrike is a none issue, players makes noise when they care.
The problem is when issue stays non adressed and people stop complaining.
Thats the moment you are in big trouble because it means they don't care anymore.
When players stop caring they are less hesistant to move away from the game.
You'd better have a forum and reddit full of players complaining than an inactive one.
I find it so funny how half the people gleefully snarking about the devs not listening to healers are also complaining about the rest of the game being creatively bankrupt.
More like a tankstrike
My favorite is how some of the ones dunking on the healerstrike were also among those who were screeching the loudest about the possibility of one-button rotation for other roles, or even just consolidated 1-2-3 combos. Apparently it's only a problem when it comes after THEIR jobs, but they're perfectly fine watching healers feel miserable.
That said, healer still seems to be the one role that takes the longest to fill on Dynamis, and AIN is half-green most of the time, so it's being felt somewhere at least.
You can tell there are healers missing when you get up to the higher levels of gameplay. When you have to recruit a healer for savage or ultimates. That is where you can tell. I play healer myself and while I support the healerstrike I still love to play the game as a healer and there are groups asking for healers very often in recruitment channels (I get tagged every time) and when I had to recruit a healer it was a pain in the butt as well, so much so we had people in the group offering to go as healer instead of dps just to get things rolling. So the lack of healers isn't really noticeable so much in casual content, but higher up, at least in my experience.
I mean, I'm not healing anymore. Not because of the strike, but because the role is so incredibly boring that i can't stand to do it anymore, after being a healer main for years. I realized i was only having fun when content was new and mistakes were being made, because otherwise there's not enough damage happening to make me feel like i'm contributing anything.
That itself wouldn't be a problem if the dps rotation for healers wasn't just one button 90% of the time.
It was always kind of interesting reading posts from people that mention barely needing to heal because in my personal experience I get paired up with people that get hit or die constantly so I need to keep healing and reviving
Wait, the healer strike was actually about mounting a real strike? People boycotting the healer role?
I always thought it was about making a point, which seemed to have worked better than usual considering how it spread like wildfire over social media and big streamers back then... If anything it's a bad that people aren't talking about it anymore, but kinda expected.
If I don't play healers anymore (or supports really) it's just because the role sucks and makes me want to pull a Quintus before the duty is over. Not that the tank or the DPS will need me anyway.
I only do a warrior strike but all tanks need a nerf to be honest
I think people realized that nothing at all will change the developer's approach to this game. You either accept it for how it is or move on.
Like i said many time : having a DPS rotation as a healer won't fix the problem.
As it stand right now, having a rotation will just transform us into a 3rd rate DPS that will still do less damages than tank.
What need to be fixed is how mit/shield/tank self-sustain work... Unless a series of nerf and adjustement are done to make healing more relevant, adding or modifying skills won't change nothing in the end : healing will still be easy and boring.... And a DPS rotation would juts be like putting a painting/poster on a wall to hide the big hole caused by mold in it.
And for those who will say : do both.
Nope. What the point of having a shiny new DPS rotation if, in the end, we won't use it because the healing requirement has gone up and don't leave us the time to realy use it.
Soloing MSQ, Fate farming, casual content that by design will require less healing than harder content, healing downtime that will inevitably be there to allow for recovery periods unless you want to force absolute perfect play in healing, when average ilvl inevitably goes up during a tier.
Square promised "high healing uptime" since Shadowbringers and haven't delivered. We will always have time to DPS on healer in this game.
There will never be a moment in this games design that will result in having such high healing uptime that would justify a single nuke and dot kit. We absolutely need more to heal than now, but we will also need extra attacks for the inevitable healing downtime. Even if there was such high healing uptime, an extra DPS spell would still make MSQ less of a slog on healer.
Yeah, i know, i remember the ton of DoT that SCH had in the past (when it was still really tied to what used to be a job called SMN)
*think hard*... Nope, sorry, i don't recall any solo content that can't done while sleeping with an actual healer.
And for Fate.... Seriously.... What the point to use any others job than a tank for doing them right now?
Yup, they just don't care and do their thing, when SQE wants to work on a class they actually do it.
For exemple, for better or for worse, they made modification on BLM for 7.2.
Them doing nothing for healers proves they just don't want to because, to them, it's fine as it is.
The whole "listening to the community feedback" is a lie and people thinking the opposit are just on copium.
And I thought I was the only one. Fabled DDs like the frost mage, the ranged ninja, or the melee red mage that make every mob group live forever. Massively undergeared tanks doing the oh so cool W2W pulls they saw in some Youtube video, never user mitigation, and quench every little bit of healing out of me. I once had a tank in a level 50 roulette who was wearing glamours. Not glamoured equip, they were equipped with level 1 stat-less glamour items. And so on.
Sometimes I wonder what game those "everything so easy, healing not required" guys are referring to - can't be the same FF14 that I'm playing.
Please stop crapping up the forums, and use the already existing megathread for this.
If the mega thread is "too dense", you're admitting that it isn't the issue you're interested in, your interest is in blasting *your* opinion out there.
The excuse of not wanting to sort through the megathead is garbage. What's your plan when the next egotist behind you decides your own thread isn't doing the job, and makes their own special unique bespoke thread?
And the next, and the next.
Please. Stop crapping up the forums.
Then maybe all the people that want healing to be harder should stop playing with their FCs and good static parties, and instead go heal a couple of random roulettes :D The challenge is out there, they just need to look for it at the right spot!
So maybe the solution is something along the lines of "if you want more challenge, play harder content"?
