Chat <se.> Sounds - Please Let Me Turn Them Off

I am coming to the forums to bring light to a small annoyance I have had since playing XIV, and it is the alert noises that players can use in chat windows. They are cute sometimes and I even have fun with using them in little /em macros to use with friends, but when they are spammed it can get to be a bit of a headache. I would love to have the option to turn them off, or at least a way to not have them play when you have the chat tab you are in not play them if the selected chat type that they are playing in is turned off. As of right now if someone uses an alert noise in party chat in my chat tab 1, but I am in chat tab 2 where I cannot see party chat, it is still played. I am not sure if that is normal or just a bug or something, but I would love to have the option of if I hear these chat alerts or not. I know it is not a big deal and I don't think about these noises 99% of the time I am playing, mainly this is an issue I have in frontline when people spam a lot of macros to direct the party on what to do. These macros are helpful but when I am getting an alert for a 5 second countdown on each number of the countdown, and then a bunch more alerts afterwards from multiple others in the group, it can be a bit distracting. I wonder if anyone else has taken issue with this or if it is just me :confused:

<se.> sound volume is controlled by "system sounds" in the audio tab. This does affect a few other things in FL like the LB ping, but you're probably net benefiting. I do wish they'd split these inton2 categories, but alas.

You can also make a macro to easily toggle it on or off, or learn the /command for it, so you don't have to fiddle around in the settings before every match.

On one hand, it may seem like spam, but from another angle, it offers crucial and beneficial information. Your interpretation depends on the mindset you choose to adopt.

Unpopular opinion
I think in pvp such macros are helpful and should remain so. I'm sick and tired of the obvious DRK that's popping purify, tbn, sprint, slow walking to my team and wiping the floor with the majority. I use a simple macro to alert my team (hopefully) to incoming DRK engages. I might post it 2 times at most, but if it gets people's attention and makes them react then it's a net gain.

There's no other way to coordinate in PvP sadly that I can imagine. This is coming from someone who abhors any sound macro in dungeons/alliance raids/trials. I don't care if you're resing, I don't care about your leylines, don't care about you uwu macro at all.

We need a way to ping in frontline, so long as we don't have a system dedicated for coordination, people will use the second best thing- sound macros. Is it annoying? Yeah maybe, I got used to it and can tune it out after I notice who is using it. I won't have to look or be distracted, I just know 'ok this is salted earth ready' 'this sound is a countdown to burst'. I don't blame these people honestly, but if it bothers you so much, I don't think system sounds has much use in pvp like someone mentioned.

I never seen it be a problem on Chaos, maybe on Cactuar y'all crazy with sound macros.

Outside of a general boss mechanic ping, i havent seen any single use that realy needs sound effects.

And even for that boss ping... i have party chat always make a sound to never miss that information anyway.

I use /echo with sound effects on macros that need more than 1 macro push, or if there is something I need to do post macro. Useful when I’m not really paying attention and watching Netflix while cranking out a dozen or so widgets. Mostly we are talking crafting or hot bar swaps.

Yes please, or at least let us blacklist or mute in-duty. It gets really annoying when someone has a macro that uses one of these and they won't stop hitting it.

Since you're one of the chief culprits when it comes to spamming se.X in FL, the easiest solution is just to blacklist you.

Anyone who uses sounds on each count of a 3..2..1.. I blacklist immediately after the match. You can't reason with these FL commanders. Ego issue.

I heartily disagree with the OP. If someone is doing callouts in Frontline then you should listen to them cause it's nice to win.

I'd suggest this is precisely why both chat and sounds should be used sparingly. If they become an annoyance, they get tuned out either figuratively or literally. Like, how exactly does it help to get in chat

if its frontline most people actually do want to want win and on onsal and seal rock, you get glams and mounts for placing for first on those two particular maps its like 100 wins for a mount and some other ammount for the glam. So Its easier to get the horde to follow the leader when someone does calls and you can get some good wins that. Also get double the xp for placing first as well which is always a plus but that is why its happens alot in frontline. If you are there to just collect xp and nothing more, i suggest just turning off system sounds during your frontline roulette and just roll with the horde essentially and just spam your attacks and what not :)

Op seemed to find chat helpful, but found the sound annoying. This is why I suggested changing the system volume. This can also be done mid match so they wouldn't have to wait till after to black list.

Sound on the calls just makes everything more efficient. It's easy enough to opt out of, so I just ping as much as I think is needed.

I admit, I'm very biased on this one. I find you annoying even when blacklisted. Actually, I'm an idiot. I should be encouraging you to spam more noises so that more people blacklist you. Duh.

Most people would rather not turn off an entire channel of sound specifically in one game mode. So you're not only annoying lots of people but like someone else mentioned, they're just going to tune you out.

While in situations like on PVP comes handy, there are others that while less common happen to be a bigger annoyance at times, say rezz macros or simply emote or even combat ones

I don't see why putting the optional option to purely mute them would be a wrong idea single it'd be just toggled to everyones preference

So just because someone spams sound effects, you have to mute/reduce the volume on actualy important cues that are built in the job (especialy time based ones). Sounds like a horrible idea.

Being able to mute players for sound effects is still the best way to go. Either through blocking, or granting a completely seperate audio group that you can toggle. As long as you can mute the sound spammer, and just that and not your entire interface.

The issue is already technically fixed in a round about way. When Dawntrail launches just add the sound effects to your word filter and messages containing them won't be displayed.

This reminds me of a time in one of the Alexander raids that we had a BLM that had a text macro (can't remember if it had sound) for every single cast. Fire IV, Thunder, etc. was all a single message. Horrible.

I said I would like if they were 2 seperate channels in my first post... Blocking is a fine option, but can't be done till after the match making it useless in the moment. Furthermore, if you do, you can't participate strategically in future matches with them. Not seeing calls is going to get you left in the dirt over and over without a good head on your shoulders.

You also don't have to mute. You can find an agreeable volume just like every other type of audio in the game. The op found the macros directing in the match helpful, but to much sometimes. This is why I suggested the sound option.

It gets funnier because you can just have all of these for yourself with /echo, the fact they just don't use it implies they just like people to see it, for better or in this case, worse

Sorry I didn't mean that the callouts themselves were annoying, I keep up with the chat and follow when people mark themselves. Just the sounds themselves get too loud, but I am going to take the suggestion to macro muting system sounds for when I am in frontline. I am appreciative to people who go out of their way to direct the team to victory ^_^

I have no issues with people making pings to direct the group, I find them really helpful when people make callouts to group up and stuff ^__^ In this match in particular it was the first time I had seen such heavy use of the sounds and it was a bit much for me. I will take the advice to look up what macro to make to mute the sounds and unmute since I need the sounds for party ready checks etc. I agree that there should be a ping system similar to in crystalline conflict or an equivalent to help with the callouts though, that would be great :) I don't mean to be hating on people who use macros or anything that was not my intention at all, they are just a bit much when spammed heavily >.>

Roll on DawnTrail and I can finally auto block RP Raise macros.
