SCH new ability idea

I just was playing SCH today for Expert Roulette, and noticed how the job was kinda clunky with the fairy-specific skills. If I use Dissipation, or summon Seraph, my fairy goes away and I can't use a bunch of my skills.

So I thought, wouldn't it be cool if the new expansion introduced an ability that allowed the SCH to have both Eos and Selene out at the same time? It would fix a lot of that clunkiness, plus you would have double passive healing on top of it.

Also, it would reintroduce a reason for there to be two fairies. Think about it, Yoshi-P!

Having both fairies out makes me wonder how their coding will allow us to command both of them? I.e. what will happen if you press Whispering Dawn when Eos is placed on the middle while Selene is following you? Not to mention, can we even make them do separate thing at the same time?

The list goes on... but as much as I wish they would reintroduce Selene, I think the dream is dead at this point. /playdead

I see the exact opposite, dissipation is the foundation by which all the healing in this game should be based

If you want something you should give something up in exchange, you shouldn’t just be given limitless free healing that has no interaction

dissipation (and to a lesser extent seraph) are the core of the entire SCH job design because it both determines where your heals go and when you can burst for more damage, I’d honestly argue dissipation is the single most perfect ability across any of the 4 healers as it stands right now

It's probably also the reason why so many people hate that ability, because it's not completely free. Healers after ShB are so used to having everything for free that they can't accept an ability that requires you to pay a price to get the benefits.

Allow SCH to summon as many fairies as they want.
And put that mobile game merging mechanic with that too : every 3 Eos become a Selene and every 3 Selene become a Seraph and 3 of those become a unique (Feo, Statice).
Use Dissipation on any fairy and get AF/buff depending on it's tier.

It sounds dumb (and probably is) but it's not that far from summoner, and if nothing else would be better than 99 broils

It's not so much the annoyance of "paying a price" It's the fact that no other healer loses access to 1/3 of their kit to gain a 20% increase in healing "magic" potency. It would go a long way if the buff applied to the oGCDs, but it doesn't. SCH only has 3 GCD heals and only one of them is a "pure" heal, so the buff applying to spells only is dumb.

Additionally, one could argue that, as a healer, the "trade" off for healing is less DPS. Plus SCH is the only job that doesn't have a heal and attack button. Reworking Dissipation is the perfect opportunity to fix that. But instead of a heal, it could be a shield, because honestly, that's what SCHs want more shielding skills.

Seraph doesn't lock you out of using any faerie skills, you are just boosting the faeries heals, by adding a shield to the heal. The only skill that is "replaced" kinda, is Fey Blessing. But you get Consolation in its place.

But that’s the point, the reason you use dissipation (well except for a 6/9 ED burst window) is because you want that 20% for spreadlo and on top of that it gives you 3 aetherflow stacks, so you trade the fairy for either a boost to damage, emergency oGCD healing or a massive boost to what’s already by far the strongest shield in the game, and if you plan your heals correctly you are functionally only losing embrace because when you dissipate you either have your fairy heals on CD or you don’t need them till dissipation is over

That’s what healing should be, a calculated decision that has potential upsides but may put you in danger if used incorrectly, you should be punished if you use dissipation incorrectly, that’s the entire point of the skill, dissipation would be less of a problem for the average player if the DPS loss of GCD healing was actually a common problem people had to contend with but since all 4 healers can pump out close to 3k raw potency of healing per minute without dropping a single damage spell dissipation feels the odd one out

Lilies being a conditional movement tool that was an absolute DPS loss but a gain over simply casting nothing was another good example of this, ShB WHM and SCH weren’t the problem, AST was the problem but rather than giving penalties to AST’s healing they just took them away from everyone else, SGE has a disgusting amount of free potency for a shield healer, it’s almost absurd, pneuma should be a long cast that’s a loss and requires a lot of free time to cast, panhaima should force you to choose the shields or the expiration heal, you shouldn’t get both for free, addersgall skill useage should cost mana, not regen it, so you are actively punished for throwing kerechole out every time you see a cast bar

"But no other tank/healer/DPS has to do X!" Is the bane of this game. Why do you think every single role is being homogenized and dumbed down to gruel when even the slightest bit of job-specific thought required is made out into this giant hurdle by this playerbase's irrational jealousies?

It's irrelevant. SCH isn't a worse healer in any metric for you having to plan whole 30 seconds ahead once in a while. Every healer should in fact have some kind of mini loops within their healing kits - Almost treat them like they were part of a rotation based gameplay system or something.

That's why I always prioritize pet healing cooldowns the most should the need for Dissipation arise, I will not let those abilities sitting there, greyed out for the duration of the downtime. It's a matter of how good you are at maximizing your healing kit.

This is not like Cleric Stance from way back when it literally makes your healing look like a SMN spamming Physick. :D

Exactly, you lose access to some skills to gain a meaningful buff to other skills, that is exactly how it should work, you shouldn’t get everything for free, that’s basically everything wrong with healers as they currently are

Dissipation has been a part of SCH design since HW when it was introduced, it's kind of presumptious to claim that it's counterintuitive to SCH's design. SCH is meant to be a tactician, the supposed "clunk" and pre-planning requirement completely fits SCH's design.

If you use Dissipation and somehow you really need to use Whispering Dawn/Union/Illumination/Seraph/Blessing (as in cannot be delayed or wipe occurs) then the problem is your plan, not the button. You have ways to circumvent the limitations, effectively reducing most of the risk with proper planning.

People hated it then too. And back then it was even worse as it didn't even resummoning the faerie. That only happened in ShB. The idea behind the skill isn't bad, the execution is just horrible. That's primarily what people want to change.

Because people back then lack the knowledge to put the ability to good use. Nowadays, this should no longer be an issue. Quite surprising how it is still being argued for rework.

That might have been true for non-SCH players, but anyone who played the job, knew what to do.

While I personally would like the skill reworked into something different, that's not the only thing that has to happen. SE just has an idea for the skill and it isn't working out. Kinda like with Monk's old One Ilm Punch skill. The devs tried to "keep" it, but the community kept insisting that the skill is useless. Until, finally, they removed it. SE has several choices, either allow the 20% to apply to SCH's oGCDs, lean into the DPS aspect of the skill, or rework the skill entirely. It's a similar situation to Excog when it first came out, but SE listened to the player feedback and made it work; otherwise it was just another Lustrate on a longer CD, that might not have even proc'd

What would adding the 20% potency to oGCD’s actually achieve

Since dissipation locks you out of the fairy skills dissipation affecting the aetherflow heals would change
-indom from 400 potency to 480 potency
-critdom from ~600 potency to ~720
-excog from 800 potency to 960 potency
-critgog from ~1200 potency to ~1440 potency
-sacred soil from 600 potency to 720 potency
-lustrate from 700 potency to 840 potency

That potency increase is annoying because it’s both disgustingly strong objectively but also If you are relying on said potency increases to survive rather than reorganising your fairy heals so you aren’t caught out during dissipation then you should be reorganising your healing plan

The one consideration I’d maybe make is dissipation not putting your aetherflow heals on CD if you use them under dissipation (so if you want to spend 3 aetherflow stacks on 3 indoms in 15 seconds you can) but even that I think conflicts with the design of the skill

I like how SCH heals and how it leverages its toolkit, and getting rid of the lockouts and choice just takes that away from me so people who have zero interest in how the job plays right now can play it like they play White Mage but this time they have a fairy
I would not have stuck with this game at all if SCH didn't exist, because all of the other healers have insanely boring 1 dimensional healing kits on top of having the most uninteresting DPS rotations imaginable
Why should I have to lose the thing I enjoy and spend a ton of time on so people who don't love it can just find something else to complain about

It's very weird that people who dislike SCH keep complaining about different aspects of SCH while talking about how good the other healers have it. I always wonder why they don't simply just go play the other healers they love so much instead of trying to change SCH and ruin it for those of us who enjoy the kit interactions of SCH.

I don't mind SCH being clunky. It adds to the charm.

IDM the 'this locks you out of that' conflicts between Union, Dissipation and Seraph, they create a pseudo rotation of CD uses. Learning to play around their downsides is part of what makes the class 'the genius tactician'. However, I do hate the fact that Seraph takes 2s to actually enter the battlefield, and that if you use a skill at the end of it's duration it just ghosts it.

I’m not saying you don’t know how to use the skill, I’m saying that your reasoning for why it should be changed is flawed in that your only reasoning is basically a vague feeling that it doesn’t feel right; I could just as easily say that dissipation is the only skill that does feel right, our opinions hold equal weight on that front.

And while union doesn’t block you from anything it has to be stopped and restarted every time you use something else and it’s still rather common to ghost the other skill when you use said skill to cancel the tether

It probably wouldn't be as bad if Seraph blasts out a Consolation while she's spawning in like Phoenix fires out a regen as he's spawning in. But yes, Rouse does basically the same thing without the dumb delay.

Even if you did it that way angel whisper and seraphic illumination are basically completely redundant copies of the existing skills because it’s almost never worth risking using anything during the seraph window because both consolation and seraphic veil take like 3 seconds to cast and seraph wipes her own skill queue on both sides so you really only have her for like 13 seconds

I agree just bring rouse back and have rouse eos turn blessing into consolation and either make angel whisper and seraphic illumination do something different or just delete them as redundant extras

Probably also add an additional ”Healing received is increased by 10% until the shield wears off”-buff to ensure 2nd shield will always overwrite first shield, too.

You can't use Dissipation or Seraph while using Union, without cancelling Union, creating a 'soft lockout'. On the other hand, you are completely unable to use Union, Dissipation or Fey Blessing (???) while Seraph is out

It'd probably be so much less of a clunky feeling if Seraph was a model swap of the Eos entity while it was empowered by Rouse (which can upgrade to Summon Seraph at 80 I don't care), instead of summoning a separate entity. That way, the skill queue would carry over between the two. If that's how it works already, then the issue is that they gave us pointless reskins of skills (Fey Illum > Seraphic Illum, for example), which means that when it reverts back to Eos, it can't find Seraphic Illumination as a valid skill for Eos to use. Either way, it's implemented in a very strange way

I see what you meant now. Yes, the capstone skills not being able to interact has been another issue that players have expressed throughout the years.

I will say Fey Blessing kinda gets a pass with Seraph since you get Consolation, but that doesn't address the point of the other skills.

Think of it like this... In ARR, Eos and Selene, despite having the same basic healing ability, Embrace, Eos was more focused on healing while Selene was more onto debuffing and draining MP and TP from your allies. :D. Having Eos out prevents you from using any of Selene's abilities, vice versa. Apply that towards having Seraph. As for the other abilities, it is more an indirect form of exclusivity. For instance, Aetherpact is forcing your pet to heal bomb a specific target, pretty much like a macro'ed Embrace+Adloquium of the olden times. Dissipation is just a way to give you a self buff to give more potent shielding and more stacks when the pet will not cover.

I hope this doesn't sound off, but why are you explaining the skills to me? I'm a Scholar. I've played the job since I started. I've been through every awkward change SE has put us through. God I miss my massive amount of DoTs, T.T

So am I. This was the first healer I picked up and fell in love with. I might show as a PLD but it doesn't change my leaning towards SCH as my preferred healer.

The point I am trying to explain was how some of the so-called restrictive nature of the pet abilities you pointed out has been present through the years. Besides, these restrictions make sense. What I can argue is that I hate how we have a demi-summon when Rouse functionally serves the same purpose of buffing our pet (in this case, give temporary effects to the pet when Rouse is active) and not deal with the massive delay of waiting for the silly animation to play when Seraph appears and disappears.

What I fear is that SCH will get reworked to get rid of the pet altogether and end up like SMN is at the moment.

If you are missing the DoT management, I am missing being able to stay in Cleric Stance for extended periods of time while I manage my Aetherflow stacks for Lustrates (25% max HP healed, not the 600 potency one) and Rouse all while optimizing where I place my pet for Embrace/Whispering Dawn coverage.

30s of no fairy healing to get... 300 potency? on a 3min CD?
Like, we're talking about 3min CD, something that should be on par with Lilibell and Macrocosm.

Dissipation is the worst skill ever.
You loose your fairy to get 3 Flux + 20% more healing on spells... great, except that healing from flux don't get the healing bonus which is your bread and butter when it comes to healing. You also get no fairy gage from those flux which would most likely be useless because if you need 3 flux, the odds of having your SS, Indom or Excog on CD are quite high.
So indeed, all your left is, 300 potency of flux.

A 3min cd to get 300 potency and less healing for 30s.

At this point they could remove the skill and increase your broil potency by 5 and that'd be enough.

The issue isn't that it isn't free. the issue is that what you get makes no sens.
You get a healing buff that doesn't work with 90% of your kit
You get a ressource for healing skills which are most likely on CD and thus unusable.
You loose a synergy

They could remove the skill and put 5potency on broil and nothing would change beside saving SCH 1 button press.

If Dissipation would apply to ogcd and resets your indom, ss, excog cd (or just 1 for that matter) it would become really great and there the cost of fairy would kind of make sens.
But atm it doesn't, and the only realy it's still used is because for some reason the SCH community managed to make SS put back Energy Drain after its removal. (oddly enough, Sage suffers from the exact same issue and yet no one cares)
If they hadn't added ED back, this skill would make even less sens.

You are missing the big reason that the 20% healing up is so useful; in that it’s a buff for spreadlo, an extra free 20% up on spreadlo is huge considering how strong spreadlo already is

Regardless my point on why dissipation is a well designed skills is the fact that it’s designed so that it can be both a healing gain (that spreadlo buff can eliminate the need for a mitigation that can be placed elsewhere, or reduce the need for later healing after the fact) and also a DPS gain but if used wrong can be a massive downside (the whole shtick with dissipation in modern SCH design is if you are using dissipation to get aetherflow to use aetherflow heals you are already using dissipation wrong so the lack of a buff to aetherflow heals is pointless because that’s not dissipations purpose in modern SCH design, if you are dissipating with aetherflow heals on CD you are making two blatant mistakes in one right there)

I despise lilybell and macrocosmos (and pneuma to be fair), healing of that magnitude should not be free (hell pneuma and macrocosmos are conditional DPS gains at zero cost), healing should come at a cost, GCD healing costs, old lily’s cost, aetherflow healing costs, that’s what all healing should be, a calculated decision that has upsides and downsides, if you use it at the right time you are rewarded, if you use it at the wrong time you are punished

Dissipation retaining the old HW design of oGCD’s being on massive long CD’s (same problem illumination suffers from) and energy drain being weak as hell to the point that optimising energy drains doesn’t feel particularly rewarding are valid criticisms but that’s more a problem with energy drain not dissipation

I don’t like free healing, addersgall is a travesty of a system, DPS neutral lily’s are as well, the 90 capstone skills outside expedient are disgusting and should all be deleted, there should be punishment for healing wrong and choices to be made that determine how much damage you are allowed to do, dissipation is the only healing skill in the game that offers that choice

Don't forget to Fey Illumination and Protraction before dissipating the fairy for even thicker spreadlo.

That is why you have to plan everything and use fairy abilities first so you can dissipate it without any worries of losing out on its abilities while under the effect of Dissipation.

If anything, I do not want SE to dumb down SCH's kit. The thinking requirement adds to the charm of the job, alongside the pet management, whatever remains of it.
