Think most people are aware Criterion has awful rewards outside of the weapon glamour from Criterion savage. It's the same feeling when everyone saw them release the Cruise Chaser mount/Shadow wolf on the mogstation.
Is onesy or several pieces?
The issue isn't quantity, it's quality. It's very apparent that the Mogststion items (outside of the NPC cosplays because one item problems) are more interesting and of a higher quality compared to in game items we can get. Some are also questionable as to why they weren't just rewards for new content (Shadow Wolf, Cruise Chaser, the upcoming Lopporitt moon mount). I don't really care either way that there's a cash shop but we should be receiving the same quality of items in game as we get on the Mogstation. It's depressing that I get more excited for Mogststation items than I do in game item releases when it should be the reverse.
Have to be honest here. If you need rewards to even do the content. Then it's not for you. Criterion is supposed to be harder content for people who want a challenge.
I mean, next ppl gonna whine that ultimates only give a weapon and nothing else
I'm not particularly bothered by cash shops, but I dislike the frequency we're getting things put in there. I think the Shadowkeeper and fantasy sets not being put in the game is a travesty.
But Mogstation outfits better? Gurl. Majority of them are cheap looking K-MMO modern glams which not only generic, but pale in comparison to more detailed and varied sets in game like Asphodelos or Hypostatic. Some of them are so uninspired they have very close equivalents that can be found in game. This one is Rinascita aiming but for every job. The Magitek set is just the new PvP set but worse because it has less options.
Dumb looking street fashion could be gotten at Blunderville, and those ones have sparkles too!
That's the purpose of the challenge is it not? You complete the hard content; you get title and super unique weapon for completing said content. In exchange, you have to prog the fight for substantial amount of time. It requires work, but there is a reward.
If Criterions are supposed to be the middle ground between Extremes and Savage raids, which both give rewards and require work, why should Criterion not when it also requires work?
T shirt and jeans number 27 ingame but put fantasy stuff in the store.
Cool cool.
Looks like a dungeon set so I'm not buying it. Which kind of speaks for the quality of dungeon sets in game, they are as good as store items.
You mean the casual vacation outfits lol, while the high fantasy clothes in a FINAL FANTASY game remains paywalled, ok.
Not to mention some of it is just bare minimum anyway. Like the island tanga.. another set of panties. Yay.
The EW raids/dungeon gear for healers/casters. Robe, robe, robe, dress, robe, robe. Some of them undyable too. So much variety!
Or how about how the raiding/dungeon gear for ranged pretty much is just machinist gear.
In an expansion that is bone dry in terms of content of course y'all would defend this shit lol.
God forbid we as the players paying a subscription have INCENTIVES to do content.
Remove every reward from the game.
Would you still play the game?
Are there other games you play where you don't get any rewards?
If we're being honest, it's the rewards that draw most players into content these days. They're used to being rewarded for doing things (and that extends likely back to before they were even playing online games). People want to feel like they're getting something for their time and effort.
It's partially the fault of the online gaming industry for latching onto Skinner box techniques but it's also a reflection of how first world society as a whole has gradually changed over the last 80 years. Once upon a time, we made up our own games and didn't seek any rewards for playing them other than having fun with our friends. Now if we don't like the rewards we don't want to do it even with our friends.
Good thing you don't have to. There are plenty of great glamour options available through game play.
We had like 3 dungeons in a row of just reskinned gear too. And we're headed into 5-6 months of nothing. But people will defend this sort of thing and buy it forever. Go look at the XIV twitter page where they announced it. Everyone's just praising it and saying "just take my money" without thinking about the direction the game is going in. "The game exists to make money" bruh it's buy to play + subscription + cash shop, I'm sure the multi billion dollar corporation is doing just fine without you defending their gross triple dipping monetization practices.
Oh sorry I forgot to mention HD version of Spring bottom shorts, some more booty shorts, jeans, non cut up peacelover's jeans, a reskinned extreme survival's shirt (the polo), the only unique gear being the sheppard set and the isle worker's/explorers tops. I'm not even counting the gloves which are just reskin of others and we have a bunch of those already in the game, the isle torque which is just the Summer flame's/Drindil (or however you spell it, idc to check rn) torques, and I could go onto the shoes but I'm sure you get the point.
The point being, we have oodles and oodles of new vacation gear, sure, but it doesn't change the fact that criterion has no rewards, the dungeon glam has just been reskins/undyable/little variety, the raid gear has been samey, and this mogstation set that would've been fine as an in-game reward literally anywhere else and instead it has a price tag on it.
All I see is that people use the release of new mog items as a excuse, again, to rant about topics that has been talked continuously about instead of keeping on existing threads to consolidate feedback and concerns about these practices.
But hey, new items in the shop and time to stir the rant pot again, don't we? Wouldn't be General Discussion without it.
What are you, the forum police lol. Not another topic about the mogstation, anything but that. Why can't people just be complacent about Endwalker's most unpopular content still being wildly unpopular while they just keep throwing things in the store. :(
I checked the first two pages for criterion topics, which is the OG topic to begin with. Couldn't find anything (I'm not looking very hard, just a cursory glance), I'm not going to go deep dive to find another thread about it that's been posted however long ago before this one. But I guess whatever makes you feel justified lmao.
I think the solution to the cash shop is to have the items obtainable in-game by doing a set of activities that rewards a shop-exclusive currency (Similar to the trading post in WoW and the endeavor shop in ESO)
Dude, it's Final Fantasy XIV. This isn't like World of Warcraft where you can unlock most things via gameplay. The whole point of FFXIV is that you don't have to play it. You log in once a week to do your mandatory re-clears (if applicable), and otherwise you stay logged out until the next patch drop. FFXIV respects your time because it lets you play other games, and for just $13 a month, you get the social prestige of being aligned with the "superior" MMO without actually having to play it. If we had to grind to unlock gear, how else would we have time to play our other games?
It's a nice set and I'm glad that they're adding something other than yet another 'modern day' glamour set or a costume worn by one of the Scions. That being said, it is a shame that it's on the cash shop and not available in-game...but I don't think the development team are interested in creating something equivalent to WoW's trading post which has monthly rewards on offer. The achievement certificate system could be tweaked to go in a similar direction (ideally with items available on a permanent rather temporary basis) though so far the closest thing we have is the tomestone events...which are recycled rewards for the most part.
I wish I could like that post 20 more times. I have no problem with mogstation glams being good. But the ingame glams have been mostly subpar for a while now (far too many modern clothing and swinsuit/pajama/etc). Honestly, the only EW glam that has good piece of items is the Island Sanctuary one given by Emmanellain (more steampunk than fantasy, but hey I'm taking it, it was a nice glam). I also have some sympathy for the martial artist torso we got with last treasure chest update, but it's more because it FINALLY gave us a nice sleeveless covering torso for a dancer glam other than the Hempen Camise than for the piece of glam itself.
I might disagree with some complaints, but I can respect this. I've bought a couple of things from the cash shop but it's disappointing to see them throwing really nice fantasy outfits on there. I don't think the comparison to criterion dungeons was needed though, that's content that's always going to be niche, just release cool outfits for all players of all content.
Criterion and Criterion Savage require no small commitment and it’s harder than Savage raiding. Time investment vs reward will always skew played to Savage raiding.
The only people I saw clearing Criterion Savage had Ultimate titles. Consider that for a moment…
As I said in other threads, they totally missed the mark on the intended audience. We wanted harder dungeons in the Extreme level and not Savage or Ultimate.
We wanted this for the midcore players as casuals are swimming in content and hardcore have a reasonable amount.
Loot could have been tokens that we use at a Criterion vendor that may include up to upgrade items for raid tome gear.
They needed to put this in duty finder as getting people for this is not easy and nobody wants to waste precious time in party finder.
This is what bothers me the most. Put the ugly kpop outfits on the store all day, but I would like to be able to get the fantasy outfits in my fantasy game without having to pay extra, there's already a significant lack of them.
I would've probably never touched the chestpiece because it has a cape (AGAIN? REALLY?) but someone else who is desperately looking for actual fantasy outfits might like it.
And the Happiness Set cannot cover it being a 'fantasy looking set'?
Not that I dismiss the negative sentiment about mog items, but coming over like there is nothing to go for in the game is absurd.
happiness set is nearly 2 years old (6.05). How many modern outfit did we get ingame since that? Sure you could add a few other, but in the whole, Modern/joke outfits (pajamas, santa and sentai outfits are what I call joke outfits) have been what we mostly got ingame. We don't say they don't exist, we say we want more balance between nearly all the fantasy stuff in the mogstation and nearly all the modern stuff in the game. Put some of the fantasy stuff in the game and some of the modern stuff in the shop.
Not to be pedantic or contrary but I would not count the Happiness set satisfying the same fantasy aesthetic as the new mogstation set. It's a fine set, and more aesthetically appropriate than the glut of modern glams but I wouldn't consider them comparative in the slightest aesthetically - they just both use the same base "cape" model. This still doesn't excuse the fact that we have an overabundance of indistinct repeat glamours clogging everything up. Why is it ok to have 6000 permutations of the same pair of shoes or sandals or chinos but have to settle for 1 [one!!] piece with any actual aesthetic? I was gonna make a collage of all the shitty repetitive glam items we keep getting but it's too depressing to commit to. https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/g...?job%5B%5D=blm look at the state of this.
Of course, Mog station gets more items than content within the game. They earn more money plus it's more accessible for the majority of the role players that don't actually want to play the game to get their glamour. It's unironically a bigger win for SE due to the state of the game as it is, and I hate everything about that. And again, the modern outfits appeal to the RPers which these days are the dominate force of the community. (Especially since some can swing in both RP and Raiding). The common dominator take is that glamour is the real endgame so yes Mog Station probably is going to get more since that's where the bulk of the money is being made.
This....this is just cosmetic...something you already get for doing Criterion. People don't want more cosmetics, they want something that increases their power for doing that level of difficult content. You don't need to add new outfits for that. For example: Have each boss drop an Aloalo Badge (final boss drops 2) the first time you kill them each week and then you can exchange 4 of them for a Shine, Twine, or Solvent, allowing you to upgrade a tomestone item each week.
While it would be nice if some of the Mogstation outfits were obtainable through gameplay, SquareEnix is a business and they're likely making more money from selling outfits and mounts than they lose from those that actually quit because they added another item to the store. It's not even worth getting upset over at this point, yet some people seem to shocked every single time a new item is sold.
