Insane gear ilvl requirement for the lvl 60 alliance roulette

A level 60 dungeon/raid should only need a level 60 gear requirement. Even my highest level, on that world, a 74 smn, cannot meet that gear requirement. I can only guess that its set to require level 80+ gear, which is insane, just to do a level 60 raid. I, for one, will no longer be queing for alliance raids, and i know I'm not alone in this, so I will wish good luck to the first timers getting your groups for those raids. Whoever chose the new ilvl requirement basically cut your chances to almost none.

From my work in market research, I should have known that I would only get negative replies here, as the typical way of it is 10 negative comments to maybe one positive helpful comment, but that's only if a person with anything helpful decides to speak up. 90% of the time that won't happen though. So, I will take my own advice to discouraged persons, and ignore all the negative, knowing that the possible helpful ones wouldn't be bothered to post. I will make no replies, since I have no wish to add to any negatives where the hope is to stir up the drama pot.

RegARDless of this character, being 90, it's still an insane requirement to do a level 60 roulette. New people leveling up, are not going to have access to that gear level requirement. My level 74 summoner, which is my highest level on that data center, and that world, can't even make that ilvl requirement. My best guess is that she might come close at level 80...maybe.

I am confused as to what op is actually encountering.
Does he want to run one of the lvl 60 raids direct or the roulette?
if its the roulette and you qeue with a lvl 74 character/class its only natural the roulette requires lvl 70 ilvl gear.
The whole point is to avoid people forcing lower level raid series then their lvl allows them to run

alliance roulette is NOT a lvl 60 roulette by the way.

People got off light with just the scaling IL requirement. Were the devs as strict as I would like them to be, everyone would be required to have the IL for the highest available raid they've unlocked at that level and they would have to unlock at least the first raid of that level.

I meant that with at least one 90 character under your belt I would've thought you'd know how to reach an item level requirement by now.

As others have pointed out, the Alliance Raid roulette isn't just for the level 60 Alliance raid. It covers all Alliance raids in the game from 50 to 90.

Players are now expected to have gear appropriate for the job level that they are using to queue for the roulette. This isn't unreasonable. Gear is usually easy to obtain from the market board if you don't have access to the appropriate tomestone vendors and are not a crafter. You can also ask friends who are crafters to help you.

If the job you're using is level 74, you'll be asked to have an average ilvl of 305 equipped. Considering the standard gear for level 74 is ilvl 403, it is not impossible to acquire.

The hunt vendors in Kugane and Rhalgar's Reach sell ilvl 310 and 330 gear for Centurio seals, which can be earned from both Heavensward and Stormblood hunts. A full set of the 310 Ala Mhigan gear only costs 420 Centurio Seals, easily earned doing a couple of days of hunt bills if you're not lucky enough to catch some S rank spawns.

Crafted 70-74 gear can be found in the following ilvls on the market board: 320, 350, 380, 385, 395 and 403. Mix and match to get to the needed ilvl. Don't forget to check with friends who may be able to craft the gear for you much cheaper than the items sell for if you get them the materials needed (desynthesis has made most materials very inexpensive).

If you're using a level 60-69 job, then you'll only need to have ilvl 175 equipped. That shouldn't be a problem for you if you have the Mhach raid unlocked already.

If you were hoping to get other players outraged on your behalf, I'm sorry. Gearing in this game might have a few awkward spots due to players out leveling MSQ but it's by no means impossible or even difficult to get what you need.

So this reply isnt to the OP, since they say they wont be looking or replying. Instead, this is to any new players who may come across this post and potentially worry. Dont worry.

This change has(at least in limited testing over the last couple weeks since the patch went live) IMPROVED que time for new players trying to get raids that arent in the Crystal Tower set. The requirements to run any individual raid have not changed at all. The roulette for alliances now has scaling requirements(essentially, you need to be equipped as a character of your level to que for the roulette - the ilvl required going up at 60, 70, 80 and 90) based on the class you want to use in the roulette. Had the OP qued directly for whatever raid(s) they wanted, they wouldnt have even noticed the change. They could also use the market board or craft themselves some level 70 gear, and their 74 summoner would be able to que for the roulette again until they got to 80. Or they could have switched to a lower level class, and the requirement would be based on that lower level. This change wasnt perfect, but its not the total catastrophe some make it out to be.

Originally had a long response to the topic, but will try and keep it short.

Basically, the idea to do this iLevel lock thing is half-baked at best; the roulette checks for your level and only your level. It doesn't care what content you have unlocked, how available gear is to you at the present time. And with how easy it is to get to 90 with some focus before even getting into Heavensward, this can be a hurdle to newer players who may not have someone who can help them on standby, nor can afford whatever the market is priced at to meet gear requirements.

Funnily enough, this also includes problems for classes that start at higher levels, as unless you keep accessories up to date in advance, same problem. On bigger DCs this issue is mitigated by a vast free market, on smaller ones like say, OCE, the situation is a lot more obvious in its ramifications.

It only affects the roulette thankfully, so aside from forfeiting XP and Gil bonuses from the Daily and In Need bonuses, you otherwise still get to participate as normal. It's additional steps to a process that was once incredibly simplistic. In fact, no problem has really been addressed as the raids themselves are unaffected, the goal-posts have simply been shifted, making it overall a pointless change.

My recommendation: have it check for unlocked content before placing limits. Using character level alone, in this game where that vastly outpaces MSQ progress, is folly. I'm not sure if it's a engine limitation or what that's forced this all or nothing approach, but it's incredibly clunky and poorly tuned in its present state, if you can queue for it direct but get locked out of the roulette, it's just silly.

Except it's not since the roulette covers multiple raids, not just the one of your choosing.

All you miss out on by queueing directly is the once-a-day roulette bonus, which is what helped to place you in this predicament in the first place by awarding XP that causes you to outlevel your MSQ progression. Getting more tomestones doesn't do much good when you can't use them to buy gear upgrades for the job you're using.

Getting gear appropriate to your job level isn't asking anything extraordinary of anyone. If you haven't reached the 6.0 MSQ yet, you can still be in Novice Network and there's usually a crafter in there happy to help with gear for cost of materials if not free. Quest rewards frequently get placed on the marketboard cheap, which should cover you as long as you haven't reached 90 a job. If you have reached 90, NQ Classical and Rinascita gear frequently show up cheap on the MB because they come from Quick Ventures now. Classical is 580, more than enough to cover the 565 requirement if you're level 90.

It's silly to try to make it sound like gear is not affordable when it is. Spend your gil on something you need for once. You'll earn it back fast enough.

It's a necessary evil. They put item level locks on the roulette to remove IL cheese. The only other way to do this would still be locking you out of alliance raid roulette, which would be to just lock you out of alliance raid unless you have all of them unlocked up to your current level, which puts you at the same situation we have now.

They should keep this system, it's honestly not a huge issue when you can buy gear off the marketboard or ask someone in novice network or the like if they can help you out.

Cheesing must have gotten so out of hand for a half thought out solution like this to be implemented

If you're so overleveled that you can't even unlock any level-appropriate content so that you can get level-appropriate gear, you probably do not need to run the roulette on that job.

The half thought "solution" was from the player base. Many players have been requesting for years, especially since CT became mandatory for MSQ and it began appearing constantly in the roulette.

Adding it was the dev's way of saying "see, we do listen to you". Some players think it has improved things, others aren't seeing a change.

But the number of players being "locked" out of the roulette by ilvl is tiny compared to the number that use it regularly. MMO players have a nearly reflex habit of obtaining gear upgrades as their jobs level.

Those not meeting ilvl requirements have the ability to fix that. If they're choosing not to do it, then their stubbornness are why they can't queue for the roulette. What they ignore is they can still direct queue and make their own mini-roulette. All they miss out on is the daily bonus that is useless to them.

uh, the ilvl requirement for my lvl 62 char is 175. He has some crappy lvl 60 marketboard gear which already is 255+
how can anyone not meet that?

It changes depending on the level range the job you queue with is in.

Lv50-59 needs ilv70 (Syrcus Tower*)
Lv60-69 needs ilv175 (Void Ark)
Lv70-79 needs ilv305 (Royal City of Rabanastre)
Lv80-89 needs ilv435 (Copied Factory)
Lv90-99 needs ilv565 (Aglaia)

*because you need at least two alliance raids for the roulette

ya, but even the the lowest lvl 70 mb-gear is 320 already. You are not supposed to wear lvl 50 or 60 gear to run 70 content..
the super-easy-to-get lvl 70 tomegear is ilvl 400 even. The requirement is anything but high, its the lowest of lowest possible to not entirely grief your partymembers

You are absolutely correct. The crux of many's argument is basically "I feel entitled to run this roulette despite my job being overlevelled". The real difficulty of it is knowing where to go and what to buy because most players don't know anything but Tomestone gear at this point.

That said, green-quality crafted gear is not ideal to buy. At level caps there is "post-expansion shop gear" which is 385 in Stormblood from what I remember.

If you haven’t finished Stormblood and have reached level 70+ you can’t do level 70 content anyway. The content you can do is tied to MSQ progress. The highest raids such player can unlock, even if they were in lvl 90 crafted Diachonos (640) gear are still only level 60 raids. You don’t grief anyone by not having lvl 70+ gear in that case. Level 60 gear with appropriate iLvl to run raids that can be at most lvl 60 should be sufficient. It has nothing to do with iLvl cheese where a player who was lvl 90 at the end of EW with various raids unlocked could strip down to get a quick CT.

In this game, both the content and the gear are locked behind MSQ progress so that “ super-easy-to-get lvl 70 tomegear” cannot be accessed before the end of Stormblood (at which time, they’ll probably already be level 80+ so locked out again).

It is now pretty much impossible to not over level these days and on preferred worlds it’s even worse.

In the meantime, one can be lvl 90 in full BiS 660 gear and only have CT unlocked. I’d rather team up with a lvl 90 who still hasn’t finished EW and is not in iLvl 565 gear but has all level <=80 raids unlocked + level 80 appropriate gear.

At this point if they tie roulette access strictly based on level regardless of MSQ progress, they should make the first set of tome gear of each expansion available in the 3 main cities once a player has reached the corresponding job level. Still, that makes every other gear you get just playing the game as you progress MSQ useless. Ideally they should have a check on MSQ progress on top of the job level one.

even when you are a overleveld newcomer.. you can make use of ff14 being an mmorpg... get a guild/friends and have them craft you some items, if you dont have the 100k for green mb gear. I dont see any issues here

Do... do the people complaining about gearing not know that you can generally get everything you need with poetics? You don't even have to search really hard, there's a splendors vendor with the appropriate gear at the hub for the expansion of each alliance raid and these -include- accessory buys.

Those items are only available if you have completed the main MSQ for the related expansion.

If the player has reached level 80 but is only on the level 64 MSQ (very easy to do, it happened to me on one of my alts in Shadowbringers), they cannot buy either level 70 or level 80 tomestone gear. They're limited to level 60 tomestone gear. One they've completed the quest Stormblood, they can obtain the level 70 tomestone gear but not before completing that quest. Once they've completed the quest Shadowbringers, they can obtain the level 80 tomestone gear but not before completing that quest.

Unfortunately, Alliance roulette will not let a level 80 character queue if they don't have level 80 gear. The only way to get any when you've outleveled the MSQ is buy it off the marketboard or ask a friend to make it. It's not hard to do either of those things but some players are balking because of "principle". They don't understand that MMOs traditionally tie gear to the level of their class/job and not the level of the content they are doing.

This MMO only gives you gear according to the level of the content you are doing and never more than your MSQ progress. If they want to tie things only to level then they should expand the vendors in the 3 main cities. I am not going to buy lvl 90 gear on an alt to run lvl 50 CT. I’d rather not do the roulette at all.

CT is all I’ve been getting this past week on my geared lvl 90 everything main. I’ve dropped about half the time when CT popped only to get CT again later. So far, since the patch I’ve got 3x Aglaia (which I can’t do on my alt), 2XMach, 1xVoid Ark and countless CT. Once I get the tomes I need, I will stop running it completely.

What answer could anyone possibly have for "why don't you want to gear your alt for the roulette" other than "to force something lower level to pop"? If one wants to run the roulette on their alt, they should gear their alt. If they can't or won't gear their alt, then they can run the roulette on their main. If they can't gear their main for the roulette, then they are overleveled for the story and they don't need to be running the roulette on their main.

I have all the raids unlocked to lvl 80 on my alt and am in 530 gear, which is the appropriate gear for the content I can do. It’s nothing like ilvl cheesing as I haven’t reached the point of being able to unlock the lvl 90 raids nor any lvl 90 content. Not buying useless lvl 90 gear if roulette only gives me CT plus gear would be synched down anyway.

The roulette is not just a matter of need (no one really needs it). It’s a matter of running it with friends and it’s a nice fc activity but I am at the point where I don’t want to do it anymore: I am getting more CT on my main DC than I was pre-patch where Ivalice raids would pop regularly (maybe because several people doing msq are over leveled and locked out?)

Be sure to check your bias on that "pre-patch" claim. Ivalice was popping a lot because it was good moogle tomes pre-patch.

It used to pop outside that event too on my DC. So far this week, only CT.

I agree that the tomestone gear should be available based on job level and not MSQ progression. That's a restriction that has never made sense to me.

It's fine if you don't want to run the roulette. The game has plenty of other sources for XP and tomestones, not to mention the roulette bonus isn't helpful when you're already outleveling MSQ. There's still the option to direct queue for specific Alliance raids if you enjoy the content or want to glamour farm.
