FFXVI has now officially proven to have taken over Yoshi's time

We have always had the 14 hour broadcast around the time of the Anniversary. Now, upon him working on XVi and all the issues XIV has had because of it (Just go back and look at the release of EW among other things and quality and even him saying he took too much on) it's just in our faces. We're not even getting the nice 14 hour broadcast until NEXT YEAR even though our Anniversary event in game will be soon. Come on man.

EDIT: It's not even like, an "Off" year. But literally 10 years and the Expac we wrapped up our starting journey.

This is plain reality, but sadly you are going to get many bad-faith forum posters who do nothing but deny reality very soon, telling you why FF16 development has absolutely zero impact on FF14.

Oh of course they'll not say it outright, because even they know that that is near-indefensible. But they'll keep pushing in that direction because that's ultimately what they want everyone to believe, whether it be through tactics like whataboutism (a certain Viera is probably going to bring up WoW again), asking for hard evidence that no player has access to (a certain lala is probably going to do that), trying to devalue your feelings and launch into blaming the players (as they often do... expect comments like "this doesn't actually matter" / "get over it"), or just straight up jumping into attacks like telling you to unsub.

And as usual, expect lots of quotations from the Little Red Book of Yoshi-P as these bad-faith forum posters seek to establish credibility to citing alternative facts by conflating corporate PR mouthpieces with reality, despite the overwhelming evidence that what SE or CBU3 says sometimes does not match what is reality.

Thankfully, the silent majority of players sees the same issue as you do. Pray, disregard the bad-faith forum posters who want you to deny reality as they do.

It does seem like strange timing for an anniversary celebration, but I have a hard time believing he could possibly be so tied up in any one job that he can't be available for a single day any time until next year.

They've got some kind of other reason for picking that date.

Yes, he has definitely taken too much on, it's pretty apparent in the PLLs when they've been done - The atmosphere just feels... Different - I don't think it's the nature of what is revealed, but just the how and overall vibe. There are also things that shouldn't have happened - That did happen.

My guess is it is just based on what they have planned (e.g., they might intend to announce stuff which could be relevant to what would otherwise be in other Live Letters, e.g., 6.5, 6.55, and the availability of other people that may or may not be present.

That said, Spring 2024 would essentially be the time when the expansion launches - Quite literally around the corner.

Probably gotta wait for the EU Fanfest in October, because they usually don't reveal anything of substance during the 1st one. Maybe not? But I'm not holding my breath for the first one to have some massive news.

If I'd bet it would be a teaser for where we are heading that will leave a huge cliffhanger to be complemented by the .5 patch, certainly they'll show the graphic upgrade, probably something on the technical side of thigs, and Yoshi P wearing a t-shirt to hint on the job reveal of the EU Fanfest.

Maaaaybe, being really optimistic, we may see a female Hrothgar reveal or at least a glimpse.

I thought this was really odd too. Seems more like they just decided to put it off until the pre 7.0 Live Letter where they discuss the changes and such? I hardly see a reason to not just do the 10th year anniversary live letter this year, considering ARR came out in 2013, not 2014... I don't see much of a reason to put it off, either. For all intents and purposes, with the launch of 6.4, the expansion is pretty much over. We're not getting anything really major beyond that. What's so important that a 10th year anniversary stream for a 2013 release has to be delayed until 2024, 11 years after the release?

It's really strange and doesn't give me a sense of confidence, to be honest. 10 years is a big milestone and something like that shouldn't be delayed, even if its easier to bundle that in with the long pre-expansion stream they usually do.

Obviously 7.0 is going to be set in Vana'diel so they're celebrating the 11th anniversary instead.

He is still the Director and Producer of XIV, I would assume many things have to be approved by him not only before working on them in earnest begins but also before they are finalized and implemented into the game. So there are many things that while he does not really work on them, could be waiting for his review and approval that he simply isn't getting to if other projects are taking his time.

Let the man have a vacation!

A day only has 24 hrs and there's only 7 days in a week. No matter how much good will, working on two major games IS gonna split your time.

Yoshi-p should have stepped down temporarily until he was fully capable of giving his 100% to this game and not what felt like 95% FF16 5% FF14. Let someone else take over the role while just overlooking and giving some input. Whether or not the game would be in a better or worse state is not possible to know but that's my hot take.

Why would they need to do a 14 hour broadcast when the anniversary is very close to NA Fan Fest? Likewise, if we assume 7.0 is going to release next summer which is a reasonable estimate, then there's a clear path of 3 Fan Fests before a final 14 hour broadcast that tightly wraps up the entire pre-release schedule for 7.0.

Also, people need to stop using 16 as a scapegoat for their feelings towards Endwalker and/or 14 in general. Square Enix have established both a development cycle and communication cycle for this game that's very rigid. Love it or loathe it, that cycle is here to stay. People were hyped for Endwalker as the big expansion solely because it completed the initial story arc. It's otherwise just a regular FFXIV expansion like those before it. I can't say they got everything right but they're not going to and it's foolish to think otherwise.

Additionally a lot of people had extra hype for Endwalker because of the WoW exodus during Shadowbringers downtime. The game was arguably its most popular when 6.0 released but it was never going to sustain that. It has seen an increase in regular players that drop in and out based on the content cycle but expecting a doubling in daily logins was never on the cards.

Finally, and this is a matter of opinion, but Endwalker 6.0 was probably the place for many long-term players to stop... especially those of you that are so clearly jaded at the current state of the game and it's general development direction. It's uncanny how some of you are walking down the same path many WoW players did because they refused to quit. There's obvious addicts in the community that would rather complain about the game all the time instead of just playing something else... something like the newly released Final Fantasy XVI ;)

I haven't heard of any game directors who work on multiple "Big" projects. Specifically, working on an MMO and another game simultaneously. I know it's possible but it's like playing two big MMOs at the same time, including doing high-end content, which isn't really recommended as the time & effort investment will not be equal to that of only one.

The fact YoshiP did should tell you everything about XIV development. It has become "Structured" in that he doesn't have to be around all the time. We have entered an unofficial maintenance mode in which the majority of the content from up to bottom are structured, and the decision-makers aren't willing to take risks or fully monitor the game but rather are focusing on other projects.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. To sum it up, we're in a state in which the company and the developers don't care about XIV because there are no risks.

Why develop more content when people are contend with it? Why take 3 months to release a patch rather than 4 or 5 when you can throw an excuse that people would believe easily? Why answer or fear criticism when the white knights are going to flock in numbers to defend the multi-billionaire company? Speaking of game criticism and white knights, do you know that the word "White knight" itself in addition to game criticism is more than enough to have XIV subreddit mods removing your comments or even banning you outright? I have personally experienced that, in addition to having people wishing me all kinds of ill fortune and "Bad Karma" just for saying a game of criticism.

It will take me an article full of wall text to explain more, but suffice it to say. I hope in the near future we can get more good MMOs in the market that could threaten the current dull competition.

He's just a human being; cut him some slack. Taking on the amount of responsibility that he has can be draining to anyone, at any age; and he is pushing 50. (i mean he is 50). I'm almost 44 and i feel like i need to go into a coma after working a full day, so i can't even imagine what it's like for his energy level.

He also has teams of people underneath him; don't just focus all of your frustrations on one person- spread that frustration out a bit to the whole team(s) of people responsible for managing this stuff.

Yeah, anniversary event should happen at anniversary, not 6 month later. If they can't do a 14h livestream, no problem, but do something. Especially after teasing that for so long. It's like their "We cannot let down the player we have" they had in ARR is now gone, at the time where the decision and content made for the last patches cycle are at a high point (highest since I'm here on late stormblood. I often see those kind of remarks on NN, which is new), I would think that not sending another "you are not our priority anymore" sign would be avoided. I feel like the "we will be honest with you and explain you what and why" is also disappearing.

I don't see what the problem is? The game keeps getting updated with new content (which I personally enjoy), we're having events as always, and the broadcast has just been scheduled at a later date, not cancelled. All good with me.

Probably on top of it. 6.4 was end of May while puts 6.5 probably early October. I'm expecting end of April/start of May unless they announce a long delay in the release.

But it feels weird that that would hold an event that has always heavily targeted the JP community and ignores the international community (outside of maybe a live translation for a Live Letter) as the expansion launch event. Unless this time they plan to make it inclusive but I really can't see them doing that.

Btw Using Maintenance Mode in regards to XIV is off.
"Maintenance mode is the point when an MMO is being maintained reliably but isn't being actively developed any longer". In which this doesn't fit at all considering we still get patches with new content at consistent intervals. A closer example of that would be something like Fortnite Save The World. All that's done with that is a yearly rotation of the same events of old.

I dont know, mucho speculations without evidence or any sound argument besides, producer of 2 major projekts sound a little bit much.
BUT one thing is for sure, this will be the longest dull phase we ever had in FF14 until the expac and i am curious what they have in store to combat that. Fanfest will tell ...

You're not the first one to ask me this question, and it's a good question. The only reason why I'm still subbed is nothing other than socialization. Almost all of my playtime these past months has been about logging in, talking with random players, then logging out and coming back again after several days when I feel like socializing again. Roulettes are a thing but it's when I feel like doing some combat but that's literally all. No raiding, no ultimates, no hunts, etc.

One of the examples of the structure I'm talking about is the boss fights, with the ever-present mechanics of "Tank buster" "Raidwide Damage" "Stack marker" and "Death-Edges around the arena", and then whichever mechanic they decide to recycle for this fight (Like Zodiark Ex triangle and square signs in Rubicante ex, or Hades arrows in Golbez fight)

The devs have created a recipe for new content, and they're following it strictly without attempting to change it. Just have a look at the job design, job identity has been sacrificed in order to make jobs of the same role homogenous. No longer do jobs feel unique in the same way boss fights don't, as each role has its jobs sharing the same kit one way or another (Tanks having the buster cooldown that can grant healing is an example)

When I said: "The game has entered an unofficial maintenance mode" then what I'm saying is: "There's no longer something refreshing to see or expect."

Even the most recent battle content addition to the game, V&C Dungeons, is following the same formula the procedure has created and established without adding anything new, similar to the case of deep dungeons, in which newer additions are basically a re-skin with different rewards.

I'd like to finish by saying that I hope XIV will get new developers & resources that will bring a fresh perspective to the game, in which it challenges the established formula to provide a different but entertaining experience. Let's have job identity back in which every job is unique and provides something else to contribute to the overall combat system. Boss fights to be memorable where each one has different unique mechanics that might not be found elsewhere, with different arenas that suit the narrative of the story that led up to this fight rather than the magical square or circle arena to appear out of nowhere (Like how it happened in Endsinger & Golbez fights). Deep dungeons are a completely different experience than PotD, and so on.

Every game is structured so that part I don't quite understand. You can't make a claim saying there's no decision making process when there clearly is. The game isn't run by automated machines. They're people. Tank busters, Raid wides and arena perimeters (they don't always kill nor are they always there) are staples of the game. Every game has staples in them. Every game recycles mechanics. I'd have an issue if full fights were just recycles but to my knowledge that's not the case. Most fights have a sprinkle of something familiar which I think is a good approach. Ofc thats opinion talking.

I can't sit here and say a War plays like a Pld or Gnb. The only tank its similar to is Drk. I can't say Bard is similar to Dnc or Mch. I can't say Sam is similar to Mnk. I can't say Rpr is similar to Drg. Can't say Rdm is similar to Blm. These classes very much have their own identity. Now with healers that gets a bit shakey I will say.

Next those are 2 very different statements. But besides that nothing new to see is also factually false. Even just recently I couldn't say Barb,Rubi or Golbez fights are samey. All 3 have a very different flavor. Same for Zodiark, Hyd and Endsinger.

Next you say Variant adds nothing new yet it adds lore, and gives a different means to do the content and go about it. Adding riddles n such to open different paths. You may nt care about that but that is indeed new and much different from the normal dungeon procedure. Now deep dungeons I will say are business as usual so you've a point there. (I will say the Demi Clones are a nice add on though).

I don't think folks realize what they're asking for when they say they want new devs. Challenging a formula doesn't automatically mean it will be good or even work. In fact it may make things far worse. The rest is just wants n I can't tell you you're wrong for wanting them. Imo much of it is already present within the game but it sounds to me youre asking for a game that xiv is not and there needs to be a point where you either accept or move on. Ive done the same myself for games in the past.

Next those are 2 very different statements. But besides that nothing new to see is also factually false. Even just recently I couldn't say Barb,Rubi or Golbez fights are samey. All 3 have a very different flavor. Same for Zodiark, Hyd and Endsinger.

Next you say Variant adds nothing new yet it adds lore, and gives a different means to do the content and go about it. Adding riddles n such to open different paths. You may nt care about that but that is indeed new and much different from the normal dungeon procedure. Now deep dungeons I will say are business as usual so you've a point there. (I will say the Demi Clones are a nice add on though).

I don't think folks realize what they're asking for when they say they want new devs. Challenging a formula doesn't automatically mean it will be good or even work. In fact it may make things far worse. The rest is just wants n I can't tell you you're wrong for wanting them. Imo much of it is already present within the game but it sounds to me youre asking for a game that xiv is not and there needs to be a point where you either accept or move on. Ive done the same myself for games in the past.

You're overthinking it, when they say "it's in maintenance mode" it's just code for "I don't like where the game is at or where I see it going." which is fine, but trying to say the game isn't being developed is an exaggeration.

A rather surefire sign of inhabiting an echo chamber, I imagine - as well as directly benefiting from the game's current trajectory and shift towards largely catering to those who spend the majority of their time taking screenshots of their characters using the gpose fuction even as the aspects of the game that players with different personal priorities see more and more of what they enjoy stripped away.

So they come to the forum to request that they'd like that trend to cease only for any and all feedback to be treated as 'trolling' or 'not valid'.

Even if one were to entertain the idea that certain posters may not be operating in entirely good faith, there's enough regular forum goers speaking out in regards to perceived issues that it strikes me as very strange to pretend as if there couldn't possibly be any merit to the concerns being raised.

To be fair that's not code. Sure I may get what he means but even he said using that term was probably not the best. They mean very different things. That's all lol. All is well on that front as thats been clarified already.

I sorta assume they're trying to lay a new foundation going into the 10 years since 6.0 . Reworking old content , alot of QoL updates almost every patch since 6.0, graphical overhaul in 7.0 and just basically streamlining the whole Hyd/Zod saga . I mean it is the perfect time to do it if you think about it . I'm also hoping/assuming they'll level cap jobs at 100 to where everything going forward there won't be a level Sync issue and primarily just IL for progression . It's my speculation as to why they haven't released much unique combat experiences aside from your standard fair (raids/dungeons) and experimenting with Criterion dungeons. I'll reserve judgment until they announce future plans of the game going forward. If the next expac doesn't try to switch up the static quo in someway that's when I'll probably start to complaining lol
