So thats it for BLU?

I’m asking because it’s been pushed to level 70 now.

So now it’s basically going to only be updated once every 2 years? Sounds kinda strange to me. I don’t know, maybe I’m just hoping they pushed it to 70 because in patch 6.0 they will make it a real job. Since more than likely those jobs will start at 70.

Wishful thinking I know. I just can’t see it being updated only once per expansion. Kind of a waste if you ask me. They also only gave us one masked carnival this time around. Hmm I’m suspicious. What does SE have up it’s sleeve for BLU for the next expansion? Hmmm.

If anything 6.0 is going to introduce another limited job.

BLU kinda got the short end of the stick this time around with only title rewards and a single new Carnivale stage to tackle.

It is at least making the ShB relic grind go much faster considering how busted some of the new spells like Peripheral Synthesis are.

Tangentially related, but I'm kinda disappointed that all of the new instance skills are from 70 duties. Not a single one from a leveling instance. I would've liked to see, say, the Seduce skill from the second boss in Shisui as an AOE crowd control, or Ame-no-Murakumo from Susano as a line-based primal attack.

They can still add those at some point I’m sure.

Depends on if limited job was deemed a successful venture.

How many people leveled BLU vs how many didnt. The devs have the numbers to show if it was worth the development time or not. The extra time that went into BLU, what could we have gotten in exchange.

I both agree and disagree with this idea. On one hand I would have liked to see more spells learned from leveling up, but on the other, I feel like putting more of them as level cap spells means that fewer players get left out if they're trying to catch up later. Or at least that's the impression I'm getting looking at the PF for people trying to find BLU spells. Parties recruiting for level 1-50 spells tend to stay actively recruiting much longer than level 70 or even level 60 spells.

But also I would add that there actually were a few spells you could learn before level 70, they weren't ALL at level cap. Tingle, Triple Trident, Strotam, Base Instinct, Choco Meteor, and Athereal Spark were all spells that could be learned while leveling.

It's a fun minigame tbh. It's like the best class for farming (lvl <= 70) fates right now

I did say instance skills, though I admit I forgot about Lakshmi.

As for the catching up....the level 50 groups aren't filling because people who already got those skills don't want to do it again. The same thing will happen in 6.x when BLU gets moved up to 80 and people who weren't here now are trying to get 70 skills. It's the same problem BLU's always had; for a job that's supposedly a solo adventure side quest, it locks a lot of the best stuff behind group content, then doesn't let you use Duty Finder to do it. If you can't find enough people, you're SOL.

Yeah, I felt they didn't put much into it this time as I would have liked. I'm not a huge fan of BLU but I enjoy doing the Masked Carnivale stuff and just fooling around with friends trying out spells. The story was ok and I enjoyed the fight (and that FF6 reference!) but after I beat it and seeing no real rewards unlike the Morbol mount last time I pretty much went "... That's it?"

Very wishful thinking, at no point did they say it would ever become a Full Job.

Frankly, I hope it never does, because if Blu ever became a "normal" job, we wouldnt be able to do the cool stuff we can with it. Can you see Missle or tailscrew working the same under a normal system? Blu is a pretty broken job, and it's fun for it. If they kept blu as if but pushed it up alongside the current jobs, then everything will get trivialized. Nobody wouldnt play blu.

Minority, but I like Blu in this game. However, it does feel like monstrosity from XI. A very fun mini game. Monstrosity was better though, because it unlocks hundreds of creatures so you looked cooler stomping around doing it. I can see BLU getting old to many due to this.....

Imo, BST and SMN were the only legit candidates for a solo job; because they have more meat to them. BST was pretty much all alone for like a decade in XI. SMN also had a solo catch them all theme in XI. Those tuning fork battles........

I really have no clue why BLU is limited..........The aforementioned 2 classes actually had solo oriented themes in the past FF mmo............But I digress......

I totally agree, especially with the issue of BLU, as SE stated that it was SOLO content, has to party-up for raids & trials. POTD, Squadrons, even Eureka would be great for BLU

Some of the new skills address this though, like Basic Instinct (which is available in an ARR zone) and Choco Meteor.
Making it possible to solo more content.

Gonna pray they actually listened to the community on this one and BLU is just stuck in a limbo of 'too late to change it now'.

Should not be able to get relic upgrades running as one, it is wrong as it is not a full class but limited niche thing to do.

Still very obviously designed FOR PF, with many skills that will give you absolute hell if you tried to get on your own, but Basic Instinct (solo buff skill that works in instances, earned from ARR content) helps a bit now (still a job to pick up and then promptly drop in most situations). I think they should consider adding a bonus to learn rate on that skill, for the sake of instances (since that's where the skill works anyways). Perhaps with an upgrade later called Primal Instinct that grants you all three mimicry forms at once (and the other rules and bonuses of basic instinct).

Until they upgrade their skill design for the beginning though I'll still view it as a poorly introduced (how they introduced the job), poorly designed (as the first levels, pre-50 and especially w/o PF) job, the quality of skills in the beginning, and imo, the concept of skill progression, is bad. Very generic spamming progression to the job until post 50 AND you've obtained PF skills (or suffered a lot with basic instinct). You should be having a lot more activity, especially on a 'limited' job that needs less concerns for balance. Also it should be uncommon for skills to get straight kicked off the stage in their existence (unless it's something like a trait, like aero to dia). That or the skill is important but just feels awful to use, self stunning is just not fun lol, cast time on a movement skill is super sluggish feeling, the 'feel' could be better. But I did want to say you can simply see the 60 - 70 spells have a lot more fun in their designs (creative, thoughtful, unique mechanics, sometimes wacky to feel wild), that should have been the entire job, vast majority of the spells being this way (if not all of them). Even if you don't like my thought that the job should have been massively kit build focused with concepts of Diablo 3 / Hades (effect mixing wildness), I still think 1-50 was just "this is what I get for what I lost? INSTANT DELETE". (Instant delete as in my emotions about it, I generally think removing content is bad and evolving it is better - but when I experienced 1 - 50 I was like "this makes me feel very bad, I would have been happier this never existed").

They're clearly trying to repair some of the faults and the more recent spells are inspired / neat (60 - 70, far more interesting and clever ideas), but .. man I still hate what they've done to the job as a whole (but I am happier with their recent spell designs, they show a lot more care and thought- I wish the whole job felt like that). The job, imo, should have been designed FOR solo where they could have a lot more diversity of engagement and wacky ideas (not "for" PF, which is still giving us a 'separate but not equal job that is still balanced in some ways'), or normal content with side content as a bonus if need be. Or alternatively don't make this abomination /Riot lol, yes my opinion and yes I'm salty about it, and create something else new instead. All this talk of making blue to be blue but they still did things like butcher skills to be balanced (besides many chance based spells just being awful for balance, rather than figuring out a more engaging mechanic, we've things like fire agnon or angel whisper which are not like their mirrors as random examples). If they wanted full wack blue, it should have been solo designed. IF they were going to balance it then freaking normal with unique characteristics (you can absolutely still have a job that goes to learn spells "but what about that level 50 primal spell HUH?" ... it's called have the job learn it at level 51 then, you can make a logical schedule.. you just have to think it out). If they wanted to make PF exclusive content, then just make something new.

If they add another limited job from the iconic list then my sympathy to whoever lost a dream to their "made for PF, and only for old content" designs. Hopefully if they add another limited job it's something new and unrelated to something you might actually think could be "normal", like Magitek Operator or something (think Xenogears mechs and such).

I wouldn't say this is all for BLU just yet. I think we may have been given blu level cap a bit early (I honestly didn't except the level cap to boost until 6.0) and we will be given another BLU reward like the morbol mount. Perhaps for doing delta scape? Perhaps some instance of savage specific for blue mages would actually be preferable.

I bet a lot of this will be obtainable solo with basic instinct, and basic instinct comes off a level 24 mob. Run through dungeon -> murder everything with ultravibes, lv 5 death or launcher if the instants don't work-> solo a boss in similar fashion to the carnivale stages -> learn spell

Honestly for most people that is always "it" for blu. I don't like raiding a lot so for me blu is always something that I only play on the patch day when I level up and get all the new spells. I maybe pull it out for rare fates where i can make it easier or for helping a friend lvl at low lvls but other than that blu is a class you only play maybe at one day increments unless you REALLY drag out getting the spells. Or when you just want to pull it out to blow yourself up and sit dead somewhere.

Level 70 BLU with basic instinct just melts everything 50 and below, even the extreme trials. I still needed feather rain and the ice bow one, took about 10-15 minutes each.

The only thing they need is some sort of roulette or replayable content similar to PotD.

Agreed, I certainly hope the no fun allowed crowd is flatly ignored. It’s great we have some jobs that serve their own unique, fun to some, ends. If anything, I’d like a wider variety of limited jobs— non combat ones, for example.

A properly designed job system is going to have jobs you don’t like to use and jobs you favor. You don’t have to level everything, just level what you like.

I'm not against the concept of a limited job, I'm against the job I wanted to play being limited :p. Although at least 60 to 70 spells are far more interesting- spell design has improved a lot, if they redo 1 to 50 with that spirit part of me would rest that they made something with quality out the gate (rather than just later).

So like I've really want to play a transformation based job, if it went limited, especially if under the same PF focus design.. I'd be like SON OF A . . .. Chocoooobooo! Maybe if it was solo focused then I can progress at my own pace rather than having to feel stressed to do it during the hot periods, but pf focused.. /table flip. They can't make a DF system that is as active as the actual DF, or I might accept that as a counterproposal- it just wont happen given population math unless the job is freaking amazing to play. Which.. kudos to them but I doubt you could get to the state where basically the limited job DF is killing the regular DF. I'll look forward to full blown power instanced housing before limited jobs are killing our normal DF lol.

I've tried to make up a few ideas in counter, like a Magitek Operator. Which I think would work very well under a PF focus, due to the potential logical design choices that come form the idea of constructing, maintaining, and piloting magitek. There is also a lot of natural sense of balance and options that come with it, like if you think back to other classic mech games (Armorcore, Mech Warrior, etc). Big heavy mechs, fast nimble small mechs, overheating, etc. It would follow a PF structure fairly well for balance reasons and yet excuse to be a bit abnormal for power and also be excluded from normal content.

Or of course, the far more greedy concept, being just do both (job has elements of limited and normal). If Beastmaster had elements of balance like WoW hunter on pets, but then also some full wild DoL like system that is NOT a loss. If every job had something that made it feel wildly special, that'd be a good thing. Naturally it would make those weird (advanced) jobs more expensive to produce though.

No limited job but a new healer: Sage and a TBA melee DPS.
