Ready for a new Disciple of Magic

Like everything else I bet it's being held off for 2.0, but if it is being held for it what point will come out?

Really hoping that stupid player poll isn't going to decide which class is next. There's already enough melee jobs with 60% of them being melee players. So deciding between two melee jobs or a caster job and leaving it up to the player population to decide is not right.

There's only 2 Disciples of magic and 5 disciples of war.

Is the a general ranged time frame which they will want to release a new DoM?

Not saying another mage job shouldn't be next, just the law of averages and what have you.

Edit: Oh and if they'd offered Blue Mage I woulda picked it, but I want my PUP :)

I was thinking about this the other day. Really excited to pick up some new magic classes/jobs, with the way they have done abilities their it helps and allows for multiple mage type classes. I hope we will get some info soon, as well as some new classes before 2.0, but in more likely is when 2.0 is released.

I think that another significant problem they'll be facing is the way skill/abilities work now. Mage jobs that only have 15 abilities/spells are kind of lacking. A pet job(summoner maybe) that only has 15 abilities would probably have 0 for themselves, or only have 1~3 avatars to summon, or an avatar for all 8 elements, an attack, heel, stay. and 4 left for other abilities.
Yeah we're probably gonna be waiting til 2.0

We are definitely waiting till 2.0. However, the first new class is confirmed to be Arcanist. Yoshida explicitly said that this game needs an additional DoM first.

Next DoM should be Arcanist, next DoW should be Musketeer. How can you justify doing it any other way? Their guildhalls are already right there in Limsa (where they're needed, as they only have Marauder now), fer cryin' out loud!

That would be nice, and allow for some very flexible partying, assuming that partying becomes something other than 8x BLMs seeing who can float the highest DPS.

When you talk about mage/melee hybrids, people always say "Red Mage"
But I was suggesting a melee class that can deal astral/umbral damage and also have A/U weaponskills
Different than a dark knight (Although I do love Dark Knight)... A dark knight was a melee DD that had access black magic spells.
Dark Knight is more MRD or GLA + the new Black Magey Thaum
I'd like to see a class that is MRD or GLA + the old Astral/Umbral Thaum

I play WHM and BLM as my mains classes/jobs and don't find them lacking at all.

If they make a pet class I would rather learn skills which summon pets instead of skills that tame wild ones like in 11.

5-6 different pet skills (pets which level with its master) sounds enough to me and then 10 other skills for the actual player.

There is a good chance that the summon/pets will get their own action bar like in other mmo's, the pet battle system doesn't have to be anything like 11's and I hope it isn't.

I wonder what guild houses are in Ishgard ... what with all the priests we hear about over there.

By logic of the OP next job should be a pet job since we have 0 pet jobs, 2 magic jobs and 5 war jobs. :p

I voted for pet + drk though since 1) no pet jobs 2) I like scythes and hybrid classes.

I don't want XI's system, don't want WoW's either, and let's face it those are the only 2, every game(MMO) in the last 5~10 years has been little more than WoW with a new story and some new characters.
I want to see innovation, SE can manage innovation, they've been doing "original" for decades, I just want to see that continue.
I'm also not saying don't use things from other games that work well, XI was not all bad, WoW(as much as it pains me to say it) was not all bad, it's clones are ... well they're clones. I don't want a clone, and hope no one else does either, or you have to wonder why your not playing one of the preexisting clones?

My fear here is that each summon, seeing as it's a player using it is going to take up a slot, so if there's 8 summons you've lost 8 slots. With the current setup that's more than 1/2 of a classes/jobs total actions, yes I know you get cross class actions too ...

In keeping with "other MMO" traditions yes pet combat commands/battle style would be a wholly different bar and if that's what they choose to go with, ... great?
I'd like to see something that's "new" not XI which wasn't wonderful with the whole menu > ability > pet > action > sub action; thing. But just pulling from WoW or it's clones leaves something to be desired as well.

I imagine we'll get both varieties too, tamers and summoners, like every MMO has.

I don't mind tamer's as long as the pet stays with you and grows with your character, what FF11 had with pets turning against their master was just tedious and infuriating.

A couple points:

My guess is that SMN's abilities will be separate from their Summons, so don't worry too much about the ability limit.

Archanist will effectively be a Green Mage - but I would prefer that Time Mage was it's job.. we even have the sugarloaf hats already in-game ;)

awhile ago they had posted we may get it before 2.0, i keep my fingers crossed for a surprise in 1.23

I agree, and each "animal" type should have it's own skillset.

Second part: Yeah that was a little obnoxious, don't know how many times mid-fight a mob would de-charm and I'd get DED.

Sticth together games, until we have a functional (FF[rankenstien]) albeit a little less clunky than the old doctors.

Other spells would include enhancement magic that we don't have, like bar-spells and en-elemental spells! Of course it would be great to see the return of blinding, slowing, and paralyzing spells.

I wuld love to see barspells added to this game it would make Ifrit and Garuda interesting.

Green mage - Time magic/Umbral/Astral and Barspells
Red mage - Enfeebling specialist/Water and Enspells (shockspikes on a weapon can I have it ?)

I could see a future progression of a new base class Alchemist (Enfeebling spells/Water) progressing to Green Mage (Enfeebling/Water/Enhancement?)

Red Mage would make sense as an unlockable job once you reach 30-50 on both CNJ and THM, with the ability to use all the elements for two tiers (Water-Watera, Aero-Aerora, etc.) as well as Cure.

That idea is pretty unrealistic, but I'd just like to see a lot more job and class options.

I really don't like the Armory system, either, since it means there's not much diversity in weapon choice per class. It's certainly interesting, but it's created a game where everyone can be everything. That SOUNDS nice, but it means you can never be valued as a specialist...

If they do jobs to unlock advanced jobs I pray I never need DoW jobs for anything.

I already want to play a Bard caster type, but Archer... AGH. It's so painful to play a class without magic!

In five years from now, the job advancement for Red Mage can be Red Wizard. It only makes sense... but it'll never happen.

I use Red to associate with elements, which usually, is fire. Red (Fire) Wizard, Red Mage just uses it as a color.

I foresee Arcanist being a class, and green mage being the job it becomes....

Arcane and green magic share many similarities...
In fact... the original Thaumaturge specialized in both Arcane (Scourge, drain) and Green (Silence, paralyze) magic....

Both are enfeebles in some capacity
If arcanist doesn't focus on Astral/Umbral/Time magic then who will?
Counting summoner that would be 4 magic classes and no A/U

In fact... I was disappointed when they drastically changed Thaum... but in retrospect... I can understand why, if aspects of the original thaum (Minus the healing, of course) becomes the 2.0 Arcanist....

I would have also liked seeing thaum use Astral and Arcanist use Umbral magic. Thaumaturge literally means "Saint" or "Miracle worker"

I would love to see Time Mage / Green Mage / or a RANGED Blue Mage.

Summoner and or pets probably wont be out until after 2.0 because it would be pointless to develop a pet system that works with the current server structure. Based on that alone you'll probably see Arcanist/Musketeer as the first jobs at 2.0 and then shortly after the pet classes.

and here i was staying out of this thread, but you know i'd be on arcanist the moment it comes out. i yell at the imperials in av everytime they use bio or scourge on us and tell them to give my stuff back lol.
