Suggestion: Duty Finder Revamp?

The duty finder feels a bit clunky to me...this was more of a random thought I figured I'd share. This stems from a few names being "ehh" or from me realizing I rarely, if ever, run certain dungeons due to how they're organized in the roulette system (eg. I don't do 50/60/70 because the xp is not worth it compared to other options)

Roulette:
Dungeons
*Allow queuing in multiple roulettes. Regardless of what pops, they all give an xp reward similar to the current "low level" reward.
1-49 Dungeons
50-59
60-69
70-79
*Non XP Roulettes (give tomestones, as they are now)
80
Expert

Other
*Remove Main Scenario Quest (the two 50 end dungeons) and turn them into instances using your Grand Company Mercs or the Trust system. In fact, get the trust system working ASAP in as much as possible!
*Other roulettes stay as is (Trials, PvP)

Trials
*Reorganize all the silly names ... when you can solo "Savage", or when "Savage" becomes easier than "Hard Mode".. the names are janky.
*Trials that have no "version" stay as is ("The Chrysalis"), but stuff like the Primal battles just get "Stars".

So:
Level 20 Ifrit "The Bowl Of Embers"
Level 50 Hard Mode Ifrit "The Bowl Of Embers ★★"
Level 50 Extreme Ifrit "The Bowl Of Embers ★★★"

This also means the first encounter with Ravana ("Hard Mode") at 53 would just be "Thok ast Thok"

WHY?
For one, it would allow the devs to make additional trials for higher levels without wasting time on names like "Ultimate" or "super duper ultimate!"
For two, this naming could also apply to dungeons/raids that currently have a savage/hard mode..and would allow them to make a 3rd tier (or more) of dungeons we've played (eg. "Haukke Manor ★★★").

Incoherent idea, as you can't get exp in an 80 or expert dungeon.

SE want you to level through current dungeons for good reasons.

1) You should, in theory, know how your job works, and the current level dungeons are the only way to do that on the way up to 80.
2) They don't want people doing current content to sit in even longer queues because people will just spam easy roulettes for massive exp and ignore everything else.

Regarding #1, agreed. But one can already circumvent knowing how to play their job by spamming PvP or DD/HoH. I don't think this is a good thing, but not really the target of my post. AKA another thing that needs tweaking.

Regarding #2 I'm sure that can be balanced. If they only run easier dungeons, make the higher level content give more XP. If that makes people do only the higher stuff, then adjust until balance achieved. Maybe give an increased % bonus for the more roulettes checked, regardless of what pops.
As in "Sure, I'm willing to do all the dungeons up to 1-69!" *get base bonus + a little extra for checking 3 different (1-49, 50-59, 60-69) roulettes*

Then either A) "black out" the roulette that popped/allow the player to run the other roulettes or B) Have some point system like daily turn ins/beast tribe quests to allow X dungeon roulettes per day of any level range with bonus xp.

The point of the roulettes is specifically to not give you a choice. So that they can pair you up with sprouts in whatever content they need, not what you need/want. They reward you for the inconvenience. More choice just means some of the instances could potentially be lacking participants.

The "hard" left over from the early days is a little convoluted but for the most part it works exactly like a star system. Normal < Hard < Extreme < Savage < Ultimate. Not sure why it really needs to be changed. That order still holds so long as you don't unsynch (not the default). And if you do unsynch you should know (or look at) the encounter's lvl.

There won't be anything harder than ultimate. And although they've toyed with the idea of an extreme dungeon they haven't really demonstrated wanting to do anything like that. But even if they did, they could just call it extreme.

My point about the stars is to divorce it from the perceived difficulty, since that is convoluted. It’s not really so much about having an extreme or ultimate dungeon as it is allowing an easier way to go back and reuse assets to dungeons.

Again, not so much a “Haukke Manner Extreme” as “Haukke Manner, part 3”

To rephrase a similar problem in a very different part of the game Materia in the English version is simply “Blahblah Materia #”. Easy. In Japanese? Oh hell no.. it’s Materia, Materira, ga, da, ja... The opposite is true of treasure maps, where instead of “blahblahskin Treasure Map” it is numbered, as in G10 = Gazelleskin.

The ultimate point being, just numbering things or labeling in a clear way is always a win for me.

xp gained should be a flat 1.5x after the daily bonus has been given. It's not really leveling if you take a 70 through it, and you constantely get < lv30 dungeons for the crappy xp they give versus the exp needed for your next level. Queuing for highest dungeon isn't great for obvious reasons, although it would be ideal otherwise.

I think the XP gain from roulettes should be higher. It feels like many of them aren't worth it for XP while going trough the mental anguish of locking your abilities, would often much rather queue for a dungeon that allows me to use all my abilities instead of handicap roulettes.

Honestly if they could find a way to balance having all your abilities in older content (decrease your damage based on which abilities you have unlocked?) I'd play all the roulettes just for fun, not even for the reward.

Or just cause all enemies' and dungeon completion experience to generate exp as if they were your actual level, rather than your synced level. Or, give some portion (say, 75%) of that.

They should take out MSQ roulette and make it solo, like you said, and put the XP into other roulettes. Only, this XP bonus, as well as level 80 tomestones, are only earned if you have an item level appropriate to your character level. Low level players will be fine since you are still getting poetics, and you gear yourself with poetics. Anyone else who wants allegory or whatever is current has to put on proper gear and stop trying to dodge high level content by swapping gear.

That sounds like a great way to encourage people to game the system so they only get low-level roulettes if they're going to give you the same EXP for less work.

MSQ roulette isn't taking up part of some overall quota of roulette rewards. They increased it without deducting tomes from elsewhere, and if they remove the roulette entirely then that reward most likely goes with it.

Something I'd like to see is a rebuild of the "adventurer in need" message, because I suspect it's not working as intended. If tank is in need because someone is trying to queue for the Lv79 dungeon and the game identifies that need, I think it just keeps calling for a tank until one of the right level queues up, while tanks of every level pile up in the roulette queue and actually healer is in need to balance them out - but doesn't get the bonus for doing so.

That depends on the modifier and the completion experience. Vary the completion experience based on the typical minutes' length of the dungeon instead of using a flat or solely level-based reward for any and all content (e.g. giving Cape Westwind nearly the experience of a level 50 HM or extreme) and keep the modifier anywhere less than 80%. While roulette spamming dungeons of any level may be more efficient during the dead hours of night when including the time spent queued, the time actually in the under-level roulette dungeon still won't be spent as efficiently as in at-level dungeons.

If you want to balance out the remainder, the solution is the same as suggested across many other threads: (1) do a better job of scaling FATEs and their rewards for low player counts, (2) return Battle leves and give them slightly better exp rewards, (3) allow FATE experience to be guaranteed once one reaches Bronze/Silver/Gold upon return from the instance if one enters and instance before the FATE completes, and (4) allow leves timers and progress to be paused when leaving for instances and resumed thereafter.

Even if I disagree with some of your changes, I do agree with the idea of revamping roulettes.

Thank you! Honestly it all came about because I was helping the wife run a ...70? Dungeon she just unlocked. Then I realized... I have leveled all of my jobs to 80 almost exclusively through roulette and beast tribes and have run most of the 50/60/70 dungeons maybe once each. The xp just isn’t worth the time as is. I was thinking those 50/60/70s should somehow be shuffled into the normal leveling roulette.

I wasn't implying there was some kind of roulette quota. I am just talking on a basic level of gamer psychology: take out one of the biggest sources of XP, people will want it compensated somewhere. Some of the roulettes are fine as it is, though I see areas like 50/60 and ehhhh it feels like they could be giving more.
