Then provide translation. This live letter was an atrocity for a lot of people, and while they provided a little bit of english on the screen, we missed a lot.
This was really just... silly and disappointing.

There's usually an English re-stream, not sure if there is one this time around as I was too tired to find it.
Why would they bother to do that?
They are known to treat NA/EU as 2nd rate customers.
Get a friend who is Japanese/knows Japanese.
Yee.
The FFXIV reddit discord has a live translation channel, go check it out!
They announced it was gonna be Japanese Audio Only.
Stand By for Official Translation
It's happening at the Tokyo Gameshow, which is primarily for Japanese audiences. That's the reason why Koji isn't there with them translating each thing they say.
That said I am surprised there isn't a re-stream in with someone translating in English, I get it's late but that would have been a fair compromise.
I'm more concerned at how they've been talking for almost an hour straight with no visuals or anything.
Did you miss the first half hour, filled with visuals and slides (in English?)
The Japanese wasn't extra complicated or anything I could loosely follow along, but the English slides do help.
But now think about the other two main client supported languages. They get nothing.
It's been like this for years, stop being ungrateful.
It's not ungrateful to point something out that bothers you. Honestly speaking there should be re-streams with each major supported language for these things because they're basically announcing the next few months of content for us. Having to rely on reddit for this stuff gets tiring after a point.
like someone already said, go to the ffxiv reddit discord server, they live translate everything :)
Given that they've done re-streams in the past, no it's not. If you're content to wait then good for you. Given how large the EU and NA populace is however it's not too much to ask an AAA company to get a handful of people to do live translations. No matter how much SE likes to pretend they're a poor indie company. Instead we're relying on players to do it, which they're doing a good job - shout out to mogmog in the English channel of the stream for doing live translations without pay, but wanting more from a company that can more than afford it isn't being ungrateful.
As has been pointed out numerous times, the FFXIV Reddit did a live translation of the whole thing, so it's on you to stop being lazy and find it; the rest of us managed to.
It used to be officially translated all the time, but not anymore. Seems to be random now.
The point is that SE has the money to do it themselves, not that live translations don't exist. Relying on fan good will as an AAA company isn't a good look. They aren't like indie devs where they legitimately don't have the money to do a re-stream - and the fact that SE /has/ done re-streams in English before with Koji just makes it baffling why they don't keep on doing it.
Can we stop being Selfish and acting Entitled to a Live Translator and Just wait for it to get Translated?
Im sorry you can't watch it live in your Native Tongue, but if you just wait everything will get Translated for everyone Non-Japanese. And then we will all get caught up.
I don't really see what the location has to do with addressing your subscribers... If the majority of them don't speak Japanese...
Actually I'm in Europe, but that's another thing... the official translations usually takes days, sometimes even weeks. Why are they not already prepared ready to be posted?
I just wish they would write a text letter in all supported languages with all the informations inside and put it online the moment the stream ends.
Even better would be when they step away from the "live"letter and instead recording them beforehand and then releasing them with subtitles.
It was kinda just a basic overview, so the english on the slides was probably enough. I don't know what you think you'd get out of having live english translation of all the dialogue, unless you're super interested in Yoko Taro's progress as a level 59 healer. It doesn't really seem worth the effort required to do a live english restream of it to me though.
You can usually go to the reddit discord for a live translation, or wait for them to post an overview on the forums. Either way you'll have no problem finding out everything that was said well before 5.1 gets here.
Don't worry, you didn't miss much.
Easy, they are in Japan, at a Japanese event, and they are Native Japanese Speakers. Simple No?
So while they do the Live event in their Native Tongue, everyone Non-Japanese will get a Translation afterwards. Nobody gets left out.
Fair Enough, your European.
Same Difference, just wait like the rest of us Non-Japanese Speakers. If you tried following anything, the next patch wont release till Late Next Month, so there will be PLENTY of time to read up on whats coming once its Translated.
Live translation would lengthen the time which they might not have.
It still is, just released in a digest form and on a later date.

Why are you so entitled to have stuff in your own language?
Glad to see this on the first page. Because this. It's not Vegas fanfest nor E3. I don't know why people keep expecting any different unless they just learned what a Live Letter was yesterday. Though if the cancer of twitch chat is any indication, no one reads and needs someone to physically shake them and tell them what the LL will be about.
Ironic for someone with Nier in their sig. Yoko Taro is a gift and I watched explicitly for him. Every minute with him on stage is worth more than gold.
The answers here are baffling.
We (all!) pay premium fees every month and then the developer of the game is doing a presentation. What do I have to read?
I am German and I can't remember when the bosses of Volkswagen talked in German about their Diesel pollution problems. Or when SIEMENS does an official presentation that affects world-wide customers would be held in German only. Imagine VW announces an apology to the U.S customers for their crap they've done and then it starts: "Guten Abend, liebe U.S-Bürger und -Bürgerinnen!". Yeah, you can wait for an inofficial (!) translation, but that is not what you have expected when they announce it for a special target group. Or was it an explicit (Japanese-only live letter?).
And no, "Americans" are not this self-important, as German, Euro-paying customer (I point that out for the exchange rates!) I also expect one translator there. It's an international company that collects money from an international audience and keep it in their native language - and you defend that? Even I, a random 28-year old, can speak almost fluent English, but then I do not hold "Live Letters". They should get their priorities straight.
I wish I had you guys as customers. I could slack so much while charging high prices and you would still defend that...
I'm getting so tired of this attitude. It shows that people like you have strong dislike for Americans. Playing this game must hurt your soul. How do you live with yourself? Yes sir I am triggered, because I am American, and I am certainly not self important. In fact I am told I care too much about you...humans..
Also not everyone here is American. YES the majority of people posting here are on the US servers, but that doesn't mean they are from or living in America.
...Ok just to let you know, Im an American as well.
I dont hate America, thats just silly, and no I actually love this game Ive been paying to play it nearly 4 years and counting.... I hope to pay to Play it till its conclusion if things go right with life, Finances, and the Dev team.
So most of what you said is way over the top. lmao
But my main point remains, they are Japanese, they will release a translation later.
So if your German, why would that response trigger YOU? Not saying your not German, Im just confused why your getting aggro when its not about you.
SE made an announcement that the show was gonna be Japanese audio only, so that means we get a translation later, thats not slacking off, they told us what the deal was, and people wanna be upset that they have to wait.
It sucks sure, but people dont need to get Aggressive about it.
I find this ironic coming from the person who went off about how “self-important” Americans are. And to two posters who aren’t even American.
As for the PLL, most of the stuff they showed were either things we already knew or “IT’S A SECRET”. Still annoyed about how they want to keep the third Ultimate a secret. Like, come on. Just tell me already!
Well you shouldn't have said Americans them because the person you talked to wasn't even American so you were just looking pretty rude and assuming crap. It had nothing to do with that anyways. people just all want to be on the same page is all, nothing wrong with that.
Thats not aggression though, it was a question. Meanwhile 2 people come at me Metaphorically swinging because that upset them.
Yes, so we sadly have to Wait for the translation afterwards. And then everyone will be on the same page before Patch 5.1
Sounded pretty aggressive to me. And presumptuous. Just because someone asks for something to be in English doesn’t mean that they’re American. There are more countries aside from the US that have English as their primary language. It’s more or less the universal language, so it would be in SE’s best interest to have translators present for things like this for their foreign audiences. They know people are watching their streams from around the globe, and English is the language that would be easily understood by a lot.
Don't know how a general question could be taken as Aggressive, but hey, Im not anybody but myself.
And I know other places speak English
Once again, everyone will be caught up, it was stated to be Japanese Audio only ahead of time. Later there will be a Translation. .
Didn't say so in the news. Neither in english, nor german news.
That's like announcing content updates and the content is japanese only.
English isn't bound to America only. It's an international language.
They could do it in english or as others do, do a live translation over the streamed content via translator who is not with them on the booth, but exclusive for the stream.
