I'm hoping they at least do something if they wont recognize it or talk about it with us. This is prolly the most BS thing I've seen them do.
These new sounds are not different. They are simpy extremely bad. Failed design. One handed blade cannot sound like a very heavy blunt hammer. I simply cannot believe that someone in dev team thought it was good idea. It's almost like they did it on purpose to punish us (that vocal minority) for complaining in the first place.
It simply cannot be accepted. I often hear when people say 'Yeah job is fun but sound design is very bad". Keep discussing about it, keep sending suggestions, spread the word on the internet. This is far from over.
Because a number of players in the Japanese base are content with the changes, granted some do think a one or two things could still be adjusted again but not so much that it's a priority requiring an immediate fix. It's just not that important enough when other things need attention.
Agreed, the job may play fine but I'm not going to just forget how it was released and its intended sound design just like that. I still feel so blah when I'm doing raids and junk.
You seen their forums lately? There's more upset with the new sounds atm than what seems like there were before. Eve with this, you'd think the other things mechanically broken would take more attention than changing the GNB sounds only 3 weeks into the new expansion.
Yes I have read them (your attempt at Google translate is only giving you half the story with your thread) and the opinion on the sounds is not as bad as westerners are making it out to be, but again it's not a priority. Could the sounds be adjusted yeah JP could accept that, but reverted completely no as they were changed for a reason to begin with.
This player pretty much hits on the head. They understand a change was needed but at the same time, some of the sounds could be adjusted again for certain actions.
If japanese players think that swords should sound like hammers just make the change for JP, and revert it for NA and EU.
If someone is able to post on JP forums it would be highly helpful, we need to keep fighting everywhere we can.
And if you send them suggestions in game remember to be civil. The fact that they disrespect us doesn't mean we should disrespect them.
im pretty surprise the lack of GNB and DRK mention in the live letter specially both of them have been top trending on the forum, im kinda expect it on DRK, seems like his curse of being ignored remain strong as ever but GNB and his sound problem could get a small mention or something.
on the other side they mention the duration of some defensive skills, meaby TBN idk, at least seems like WAR will get some love as usual.
the change achieved nothing tho, instead of balancing the high end and lower end of the sounds they just cut the high end and jacked up the explosion sound.even the explosion sounds are nothing spectacular in my opinion they all sound too similar, have you tried playing it in content? barely anything can be heard against the sound of mechanics and other effects its honestly terrible.
it feels like a rushed out band aid to shut ppl up quickly but created more problems than fixing them
What kurando linked maybe just the minority i looked at the topic over at JP side and there are more ppl still against the changes. Even, a few pages back there are more likes garnered asking for the previous Sound effect instead. Well at least for the keen edge combo.
I'm very disappointed that it wasn't addressed but I'm also not surprised.
Hopefully if we continue to make our voices heard they will eventually change the sounds back to their original design. For now though I keep trying to play the job but I just can't. The sound is just so bad that it is actually jarring during gameplay. I decided to level and learn tanking on Paladin instead.
This is a weird hill to die on.
It's incredibly disappointing that they've done absolutely nothing about the sound effects. I'll keep sending in suggestions voicing my displeasure, but I highly doubt they'll do anything. Time to go play a class that I can actually hear over combat, I guess.
They probably didn't say anything since not many players are complaining about it.... I mean only 3% of the player base uses the forums while most use other means like twitch Reddit and such. You should probably voice you concerns on other sources to gain more player support.just my opinion!!
Issue is now we have like 10x more discussion about that than during 5.0. They listened to very small minority in the first place, and now they refuse to listen to us. Look at our poll in other thread. Over 200 people want old sounds back.
Reddit was dissatisfied too, multiple voices on twitter.
They simply pretend that nothing is happening, but this is not a minor inconvenience, it's absolutely failed design that would be fixed multiple times already by normal studio that actually respects their community.
For all we know, the PLL did not mention anything about GNB SFX due to time constraint, and also the thing was posted in the 20th or so page? Not sure anyone in SE would go that far to pick questions in addition to the other langue questions.
Just as well, they seem to be throwing alot of manpower for "big" job balances and are aiming for 5.08 and 5.1, as well as 2.0 MSQ for NG+.
All the same, I do hope that 5.1, or even earlier if applicable, will see some changes to the SFX, and that they are taking their time doing it. (Although that's no reason to not revert the Solid Barrel combo until then, unless they lost/overwritten the Sound file...)
I'm really not sure what people's problem with the sounds are. I wear a headset and hear them clearly when I play, and they don't bother me at all. I don't get the "blunt weapon/hammer" claims at all...
The problem often come about during combat with other players or NPCs involved. In the flurry of sounds the GNB SFX will be less prominent overall. However the aspect that sounds most prominent during that time, would be a "wamp" or "smack" sound that comes about during the animation. This sound, sounds more like a Cyclops or Minotaur's 1 - 100 ton swing attack, where if you get hit, makes a "whack" or "wamp". Which is where the blunt weapon sound comes from.
By yourself or few players and enemies or vs a training dummy. You would be-able to hear the SFX more clearly. However it sounds a bit too weighted for the one handed bladed weapon you are using. With the slashing sound not being prominent enough to give the impression that the weapon is a bladed mechanical weapon, that the gunblade is.
Also I use headsets as well.
Edit:
To give you a comparison or example, take PLD's SFX. It sounds like a one handed sword. But most prominently has a slashing sound. But when you compare GNB's SFX, GNB does sound more weighted and blunt overall then it should be.
If we look at WAR, the SFX is heavy weighted and has a "ringing" sound, as the weapon is a mass of iron (typically) think of the sound Gut's Dragonslayer makes from Berserk. Axes while bladed, are weapons that employ heavy momentum and that is reflected.
For DRK, while it is a heavy bladed weapon, the sound sounds as if the strikes are coated, or used in conjunction with magic. It is also hinted at since when you slash with your weapon as DRK, a trail of dark magic follows and hangs in the air for longer then any other Job weaponskills. But you still ultimately hear a slashing sound.
I'm disappointed that they didn't address the Gunbreaker sound effect changes. The Solid Barrel 1-2-3 combo sound effects don't sound correct. It sounds like a blunt weapon rather than blade. Worse than it was before. I hope they adjust the sound effects for that soon.
As someone said, the real issue is how it doesn't sound like what it should (and did sound correct to begin with) as well as how much it melds both into the rest of the job's kit of sounds as well as the raids we join.
To give a comparison of just the keen edge combo itself.

The first one is what we have now, the 2nd is our old one where there's very clear and crisp slashes followed with trigger pulls and more interesting sound effects that separate you from the group. With such a heavy/blunt and all explosion based kit... everything sounds too similar, explosions from other jobs all mesh together with this one and it loses the unique sound kit it originally had.
I WANT IT ALL BACK tbh. Not just keen edge, the whole thing, ESPECIALLY old blasting zone.
This is what really gets me. Each job, let alone each tank had its own SFX kit to fit their job. PLD sounded high in pitch but not enough to NIN's extent to represent the holy-ish slashing and shield bashes it had. Everything it does feels liek a knight with a bright and shining blade. WAR was heavy, bladed, but you could hear the momentum in the swings and slams it performs in its job, it's like a berserker and sounds like it. DRK as you notice and I love you for this, leaves trails of its slash and even has sounds fading after it, having both a slash effect sound also in tandem with a form of "spell-like" punch to it.
ORIGINALLY, Gunbreaker's "feel", or it's sound kit... was something akin to the inner working of a mechanism designed for both slicing and manipulating its' own aether. You could hear trigger pulls, compounding sounds like the cartridges in it were being crushed and spattered into particles of aether within the explosions caused through each slash. With continuation how it was too, it had it's own unique form of momentum the WAR didn't necessarily have, it had momentum for each combo flowing from one into the next as if the way you swung your blade roused a swift blow the opposite way with the "chings" it made throughout the combo. Rather than having a momentum through one animation of a swing or thrust, it had a series of combos that created one giant flowing momentum of swings and slashes. I loved it, it gave the job its' own identity instead of it just being "this is the one that explodes constantly in everything it does and hits like a cardboard pool noodle".
