I believe its solo only.
And if you did queue with a friend it would be you, your friend, and 2 trusts not 3.
If your friend is nervous about healing they can still use trusts, its not just for dps.
And just like Amy said in the live letter, its good for those that are nervous about tanking or healing. Its a safe environment where you can practice tanking/healing without any real pressure.
If they are nervous about healing groups, I recommend Scholar. In the event they fail to heal in time, the pet will probably throw out a heal of its own.
The alternatives are doing it as a DPS the first time round, setting up a preformed in Party Finder or practicing the healing on the trusts in each dungeon.
Yeah, I was hoping to be able to do it together as well. It would have been fun and Good way to leisurely enjoy the new dungeons. Ah well least it will be useful for her to practice. She's a great player just needs more confidence. So either way trusts should help!
Trusts will be a great way to experience new dungeons, or try out new roles without inconveniencing others.
Currently, I won't run a new dungeon (Or one I haven't done in weeks) until I've watched the videos again.
In 5.0, I'll add a couple trust runs as well before I group up.
I don't understand trusts. How do they differ from the Grand Company teams? I get that you can't choose a Scion's job, but doesn't that just make them worse then the Grand Company teams?

I feel they missed the mark a bit with trusts. Mainly by making it an all or nothing thing. They should be allowed to be used in a partial group. 2 trusts/2 players, etc. Would also be nice to summon them in dungeons to replace a tank or healer that rage quits after the DPS sat through an hour long queue. Also need to be able to use them in older dungeons that are hard to find groups for. Definitely need to be usable in casterum/praetorium, as that would fix the whole cutscene mess with those 2 dungeons. I know they said they are considering older dungeons, so hopefully it happens.
I think GC teams are just for roleplaying the commanding of a squadron.
Yoshi-P's motivation seemed to be that he wanted the captain rank to feel like you're a captain, unlike other games where they are ranks for the sake of being ranks. They want you to feel like you are in command so they let you control them.
Of course, there's an incentive for roleplaying it. Some glamour, emotes and other rewards and you may find them useful for XP or loot runs.
Trusts are different because they are not tied to Grand Company ranks; therefore you're not their leader and you don't control them. They are their own people so Yoshi-P wants them to make their own, independent decisions, each with their own personality.
You can see how they behave in media tour videos on youtube, but it spoils one of the new leveling dungeons. They are nothing like GC teams. You can watch or wait two weeks to see it for yourself.
Several days later, I'm still rather bemused at the amount of people that still haven't noticed the Crystal Exarch as a potential Trust in the trailer...
GamerEscape asked a question about this:
Gamer Escape: Right now, the Shadowbringers Trust system is only for one player, but a lot of people regularly play with one other person. Is there a reason why you can’t do two players with Trusts?
Naoki Yoshida: With the Trust system, one of the main concepts is for our players to enjoy progressing through the main story, and you will start to see this when you play utilizing this system. But it’s not just about getting through the story. After we complete the main scenario quest, we will still utilize the Trust system, and there will actually be a system in which you’re raising and growing your NPCs. So if we allowed for multiple players to team up with NPCs, we would need to set up a program to track who’s Trust belongs to whom, and the growth system gets complicated.
Plus, once we allow for preset partial parties, the demand will be there for people who want to go in to duty finder and be matched up with NPCs, and that gets even more confusing. So we had to draw the line somewhere, so we set it up so either you going solo with your Trust, or you party up with other players.
There’s one more major point. Say for example I am going in with three other NPCs, all the NPC’s need to keep track of in terms of HP and healing is me. If we had a party comprised of two players, the AI will need to decide which player they need to prioritize if they are both running low on HP. That adds an extra step the AI has to make a decision on, which will delay their response.
not just better Ai but the AI will actually act in a way within their character as well.
Thancred, for example, will use his old rogish skills to yeet himself through a boss mechanic thus completely ignoring it.
They also have higher defense, HP, healing, and attack with the ability to ignore certain mechanics as well.
Here is a demo of the Trust...

There are plans to eventually get Trusts to work for 2.0 to 4.X MSQ dungeons and Dungeons outside of MSQ due to the need for helping newer players having to level through 2.0 to current content increasing for each update and expansion but you can discuss that in this Thread....

They react and can be targeted by mechanics. They act on their own without needing an engage/disenage or special limit break command. They have unique personalities and some like Alisae will use the limit break right when it fills up and others will let the player do it if they are dps. There are a couple of videos on youtube.
Some examples seen were during the last boss of the 73 dungeon, when he causes the middle of the room to disappear and replaces it with what is effectively a tightrope. Thancred just jumps across, Minfilia ninja sprints along it, Alphinaud very carefully and slowly walks, and Urianger will use Aetherial Manipulation on the player once they get across. Ironically, trying that with a BLM causes you to fall in and die.
During the live letter, Thancred also tried to vote kick Yoshida for inactivity.
I feel the same way.... I usually always play with one friend in particular and we queue up to fill the gaps. It doesn't really matter since he plays tank and I play healer (usually) so our queues tend to be really fast but for those days we both want to go dps it would be nice. And anyway, I have a head cannon that he and I are both the "main characters" and the scions always ask us to help them out (rather than it just being me alone). I know it's dorky as hell but I'd squee so hard to be able to go into a dungeon with him and the scions, if only for my head cannon and immersion experience. :p
I actually ASSUMED that it would work this way and was pretty heart broken when I found out it was all or nothing. Seems like such a strange decision to make but I'm GUESSING the reason they did this is to keep players actively queuing up for dungeons - I think MANY people have just two or three friends and need to fill the gaps. If they could just use trusts, it might bring down the active player base using duty finder. But I'm not even sure if that's the reasoning because realistically, I think most people would still prefer a fully human group due to the efficiency compared to the trusts. But who knows..
With these trusts working as they do, I wonder if GC Squadrons will get similar treatment to update their AI. Would also be nice if they got more job options as well, if an AI can handle AST then I'm sure one of the squadrons could too!
So Thancred stays focused on the duty, Urianger burns the mobs and Alisaie actually uses Limit Break. That's a pretty good team. :D
On one side I find this to be quite funny on the other side I wonder why they included that? I mean the trusts seems to take up 30 minutes of a dungeon and with a 60 minutes limit you cant just afk a long time anyway. (And then picture that the scions seemingly wanted to kick out their friend just because he needed some time)
I do love that they have different interactions and that every NPC is unique..but I also question why we needed such a complex system in a MMO..especially since its only for new dungeons..so much work and time being put behind that.
I just hope it does not take too long for them to get Trust working for 2.0 to 4.X MSQ and other Dungeons since long term wise they need it to help the new players and the developers acknowledge this since as the game gets older the longer it will take for newer players to reach current endgame (unless they pay for MSQ skip) and if they play DPS jobs they will get more annoyed due to DPS queue without the help of Trust system.
Also gives them more reason to get creative with new Trust Companions like getting Hoary Boulder as a trust Companion and how to Unlock them through methods outside of MSQ.
So, I was thinking about the E3 trailer, and how it really looks like we're calmly talking with Solus at the end of that dungeon with the cave paintings (you know, the one where he says THAT).
I'd put good money on Solus himself being a trust member for that dungeon.
