While I'm sure they would love for every player to experience everything the game offers, that's not realistic. And so the jump potion is offered for those who don't like leveling and want to get their character into end game as fast as possible.
I doubt the majority of those buying jump potions are new players. Most are going to be existing players who have already played through the content at least once. If a new player is buying one, it's probably because they've got friends who already play and they want to catch up to them as fast as possible. And I've met a few players who did regret using one because they realized they missed out on some potentially interesting content. They've gone back and started new characters from level 1.
But not everyone regrets it and that's fine. There are still others like me who are playing through and enjoying the leveling content while I skip the PvP and Savage that the players who use jump potions enjoy. Nothing is going completely unappreciated, possibly not even Pagos. -

If your only goal is raiding, for instance, being gated by hours upon hours of story you aren't interested in will feel like little more than a chore. Hence, like any other MMO, FFXIV is largely reward driven. That's what drives most activity in this game. As for the potions: Frankly, it'd be even better if they were entirely free. People who are interested in the story won't use them anyway, while the story provides no value for people who aren't. It's purely a choice of preference and there's never a harm in that. Except on SE's bottom line, because apparently, the story provides so much anti-value to people that you can monetize skipping it. Which is kind of a devastating statement in its own right ._. -

As many have said before, skip potions aren't just for newbies. I've jumped two jobs that I wanted to play around with in endgame and didn't have the time to level them. I've jumped an alt through story because I've seen and done it all and you couldn't pay me to do the post-Ultima fight content slog more than once.
When half the classes start at 30/50, why are you going to be offended if someone starts at 60?
Even if you have a new player who hasn't done the content (and it can be difficult, going into a 60+ dungeon and hearing "I've never played this game or class before but I'm sure it's no different from WoW" from the tank) it's 20m of your time, and I've met new players who got thrown in who were better than veteran players dicking around.
And in the end... no, it's none of your business how people play the game. Do I think it's a shame to skip the story? Of course. Do I think it's wrong? It's not my place to care. -
