Are these mobs suppose to be this powerful, like Zahar'ak Chandlers. They have old spells like punishing barbs and shadowsear which seem OP to me. Shadowsear can one shot most party members if not careful and punishing barbs deal exact damage you dealt like the old days.

I don't like that they have the moves but I like that they have them.
Gives you an incentive for killing them fast after they hit half health. They only usually use these moves after that point, so kill as fast as you can.
As for the coffer mobs, I couldn't give a sh*t less about them with their crappy key drop rate >.> -

They're still in the game's data and yes they should have it this is why monsters are different from players beyond looks. Logically a level 60-80 monster would have access to spells and abilities that are level 60-80, even if the player can't ever get them in gametime, i.e in FFXI monsters has access to Meteor, Gravija, Gravity II, Dispell II, Slowga, Slowga II, Drain II (for awhile), Holy II (was exclusive to Proto-Ultima) etc, because it's part of what makes them so powerful.
They use current and past spells and hopefully it stays that way, we need SOME kind challenge. -

I think there should be mob only spells, and keeping the old spells on mobs is the easy way to do that, now.
Mobs need to have powerful spells too keep people on thier toes, think of Kirin's astral flow on FFXI, if your PLDs werent prepared for it it could easily wipe a full alliance but if your PLDs were prepared they would survive to rotate your alliance and get the win.
Proto-ultima's big attack (cant remember the name) can one shot an alliance.
Odin's Zantezuken (sp?) can oneshot an alliance.
Even none NMs in dynamis RNG's Eagle Eye Shot can oneshot a single target, MNK's hundred fists could take anyone down fast, SMN's Astral Flow could oneshot an alliance.
You just need to keep on your toes and know how to mitigate the damage or avoid it, for example:
In Dynamis on FFXI RNG's EES could be absorbed by one utsusemi shadow, you could make MNK's sleep through HF and you just need to keep SMN's avatars asleep for AF.
And the NMs had similar ways to avoid or mitigate damage from a well timed Sentinal to kneeling or resting when Odin uses Zantezuken, you just need to know the mobs you fight and keep on your toes for a well timed action or spell. Oneshot abilities make games more fun as long as there is a way to mitigate the damage or avoid them. -

Shadow sear and the old spells keeps things interesting. Soling the feretar without sleeping it constantly is kind of suicidal since that spell can almost one shot a person. Would ask that the devs keep it.

Although it MAY be simply something they haven't had the time to 'phase out' yet (given everything else they are doing), I am thinking there may be another reason these monsters still have these abilities.
As stated before, some abilities that were 'taken away' from us may soon be returning in this upcoming patch, or later in 2.0, as 'job' abilities instead of class ones. And, if not now or in 2.0, it might be even farther into the game, when even more jobs are released.
And, if not that, then... maybe they just want monsters to have abilities we don't have? In FFXI, monsters had plenty of abilities we didn't have, including spells that we could not use. So, think of it that way. -

Hopefully it gets changed. Why? Not everyone who will ever fight those mobs was around when those spells existed, and they are ridiculous in comparison to some of the replacement spells we have. Don't get me wrong, I love the combo changes, but I miss having the ability to effectively AoE on most classes (I hope we get some of that back with jobs).
Enemies of the same race and level range should be roughly the same difficulty, not one mob class in particular that is OP because they still have a spell that was taken away from players, specifically because it was so OP. Just typing that now makes it so obvious to me, lol.
As for the FFXI examples...well, part of what I liked about those was the possibility of getting those spells at some point if they raised level caps. They have, and the players have gotten many of them. Here's hoping some of those crazy spells the mobs have are put back in in a rebalanced form, and the mobs' version is rebalanced with it. -

Eorzea doesn't have much sense of danger or any reason to explore right now, I remember in FFXI seeing sneak and invis wearing desperatly trying to find a safe spot to recast asap before loads of mobs raped you.
The only mobs a player cant handle are really the ones where no one goes, (except treeants) whereas in FFXI you could have to find a coffer the mobs around would oneshot you if you were detected and the coffers would make sneak and invis wear when you open them.
Running through areas like this (Xarcabard for Genkai quests anyone?) really gives you a sense of accomplishment, when the game came out I ran from Uldah to corthas on my lvl 20 LNC and wow it was one of the best feelings when I got my first camp there, after running past mobs that can easily oneshot me (and they did a few times). If you dont want oneshots then this game is where you should be, not FFXIV. -

I'm not opposed to mobs having unique spells/abilities, but taking a 2800 shadowsear (read that one-shot) is a bit much. Perhaps a reasonable tone-down for some of these is worth consideration.
