Delete feast? Failed experiment?

Anyone else don't feel the real competition in feast?

I'm not saying the top players don't deserve the spots; but anyone who has participated in several seasons (even after the 4.0 change, aka, the -90% skill removal patch for PvP), should know that luck plays a fairly large role, mostly due to how your team-members turns out to be. Practically speaking, The Feast as a competitive milestone is extremely frustrating because of this.

Wouldn't it be better to make Feast Competitive mode for pre-made teams only? Or delete it?

Imo, the current PvP in FF14 works best with the 8v8v8 scale battle (or at least more than 4v4 single queue). The casual appeal of FF14 will never carry the weight competitive (single player) pvp demands.

I think it should be team-focused only, with rewards being titles and trophies for top placement and all other things made purchasable via wolf collars. The things that can be bought with wolf collars can be different colors than the originals, that way those people that hit the top 100 in previous seasons can still have their unique things.

I feel like that would be a fair compromise, and really would achieve the effect of getting more people involved in PVP. You can still have fun with friends and be competitive, and hey, icing on the cake if you get top 100.

hmmmm I would have to agree NO. I play PvP on and off and even I think that the Feast is not the joke part, is the fact that players think they can co operate. I would love to see a 1 on 1 duel option.

Feast will remain long-forgotten content by all those except the few who go in, do a few matches for rewards then never queue again so they don’t risk losing rank.

They tried to fix it but didn’t have enough server space / servers too old / not enough devs / not enough time / not enough resources / coming soon.

Pick your excuse, because the devs won’t bother to give one

As for Feast, well... everyone knew the concept of E-Sports was stillborn from the beginning. Ranked is just an extension of that, much like the spectator feature nobody uses but has to be there because lolEsports. Until they abandon the E-Sports dream, they surely aren't going to abandon Feast either, because that's precisely the mode they intend to make a big entrance with.

The solo queue being the go-to format is largely just out of necessity, because there's not enough participation in the team queue. Heck, season 2 had someone with like 30 matches and 30% winrate in the top 30. I'd not be surprised if team queue had zero rewards this time around either, even if it's back, though the top ranks miiight get a fanfest invitation at some point. The fact they removed it at all speaks volumes, really, and the fact they debated to restrict queue hours at some point doesn't make things look all that more successful either.

Personally, I've long said my peace on what I think of Feast as "serious competition". I can't take it seriously. IMO, their entire direction here is way off the track.

I know the dev team said a lot of things in this game are trial and error, but sometimes Feast feels like both.

Also I agree with ManuelBravo, a 1v1 duel option would be fun!

...for all the problems that FFXIV's pvp has, I guarantee you making it premade teams only will be far more of a stake through the heart than anything else has been.

solo feast is just a crap shoot of whether you get good players or not most of the time. very rarely is it an actual good match. either you win right off or get blasted into oblivion mainly because it's extremely dependent on the performance of your healer first and then whether your dps can coordinate properly to take out targets together or not.

team matches are just too ripe for win trading.

They could do more like WoW, where you create a team of X players (don't remember how many players exactly) and then you could invite 1 of them to join ranked matches with you.

Isn’t that the reason why Feast is dying? I really have no patient for a 25 min wait. Join The Frontline instead and found a lot of Feast players are there. You are not helping the cause lol

youre right that feast is pretty rng with teammates but if you improve upon yourself and be the good player, you can make the difference and dictate matches with your own skill. there are players that singlehandedly make matches harder for the other team, i'm sure you know the names of a few on each datacenter.

They should shift all their esports endeavours to Lord of Verminion if you ask me, might as well replace one 'dead' mode with another.

It's 1v1 so no more complaining about teammates, far more balanced because everything is symmetrical, and by virtue of being an rts with no global cooldown, has a far, far higher skill ceiling.

For feast I think it's safe to assume it is. Will it also kill frontlines? Perhaps.
My biggest gripe with feast as is, is that it's ranked. It's hard to take "feast=ranked" serious. Remove the ranked part or make it team-based only, then it would work (if you ignore that fact that this would kill it lol).
Imo, it would be better to delete feast (or make it 8v8 for fun/custom matches), and spend more time developing large scale battle modes/maps.

I can't believe people are actually giving this thread serious consideration. There are so many reasons all this stuff is a bad idea.

1) regardless of how bad feast supposedly is, there's no value added to removing it. Like no matter how bad Diadem was, it wasn't hurting anything by being there so why remove it.

2) competitiveness, reward scheme, or value of premade team play are dumb metrics to evaluate whether to remove a feature or not. People enjoy feast and that should be the end of the story.

3) having only team play with no solo queue is unfeasible. Team play has NEVER had sustainable activity levels; if people think queues are dead now, then just wait for when team rewards are announced.

4) if you think feast isn't competitive because it's all teammate RNG, then all I can say is "get good":

SE already removed Slaughter, in what I assume was an attempt to make the other deadish PvP content less deadish. SE also basically removed PvP entirely from the game, made a new PvP in its stead in an attempt to attract more people by making PvP more newbie friendly. Removing feast could arguably work in a similar fashion towards the other PvP modes.

If it's "dumb" or not depends on the what you measure, and that is not my argument, strictly speaking. Having a premade-team ranked system makes a lot more sense.

Yes, well, my victory rate is similar, around 80%, and I've only played as monk. But only about 15 matches, so I guess it doesn't really mean anything, and that is the point.
The low skill ceiling in 4.x PvP combined with the randomness of your teammates is my issue with the "ranked" part. If SE are to keep the skill ceiling this low, no one will ever take your rating serious. If things don't change, I would rather see SE spending time on the large scale PvP modes. But I'm not holding my breath; I'm pretty sure SE will continue pushing the e-sports hopes they got with the feast.

Yoshi P and the devs already know that Feast, in its current state, must be revised. And as such, they're working on it. ^_^

Therefore, they will NOT delete Feast. Instead, we're guinea pigs in an on-going experiment in Solo Queue. O.o

An effort akin to bringing a fried chicken to the veterinarian in the hopes of getting it to lay eggs again.

I'm mostly curious what else they'll come up with to promote it. Did they make it F2P yet? Free trial was made unlimited and extended to level 35 not too long ago, so unless there's a restriction preventing you from PvP, that'd make it F2P (and the fact chat is restricted for free trialers is fitting Feast quite nicely anyway). Not that it'd help, but I'm curious if it's possible.

Well, rated Frontline or Ballista seems to be other good options.

WoW hasn't had teams in years, for a pretty good reason. In addition; LP isn't taken seriously by Sqeenix, just look what happened the last time we had it. The competition isn't there to justify premade party based rated pvp.

Really, nothing of what you've argued overall has made sense so far and at this point I think my "dumb" evaluation was too generous. You argue to have premade team queues, but you admit it's unfeasible by saying it will kill the game mode? How does this make "a lot of sense"?

You argue to delete Feast because you "don't feel the real competition" and are frustrated at it as a "competitive milestone". How are these even equivalent? Maybe you could have a really bad (opinion-based) argument for deleting the top 100 ladder, but having this as an argument to delete the queue entirely? That's not sensible either.

Just say how you really feel. It's not about the competitiveness or having premade team queues; those are just excuses. This entire thread is because you don't enjoy the Feast game mode, and you think that's a good enough justification to create this entire thread and argue for devs to divert resources away from small scale PvP to large scale PvP:

Stating something is preferable but not practical is not an error in sense-making.
It's like saying you would probably enjoy eating the world's most expensive cake makes no sense because you can't afford it. It's not an argument for you wanting to buy that cake.

We don't disagree on any logical points here and I don't hide the fact I would prefer SE developing large scale PvP only; I've blatantly stated it. But I'm no nazi about it. If you enjoy the feast, then I'm glad. :D
