Glamour dresser feedback

This was the feature I was most excited for this patch so now that I've gotten to play with it a bit I have a few bits of feedback. Overall I think it's a huge improvement but it still needs work.

1.) Increase the plate limit
The most obvious issue is that we can only save 10 plates. I think SE may have already said they'd look into increasing the number of plates we can save but we at least need the ability to save a plate for every job. Including crafters/gatherers.

2.) Increase the dresser item limit
200 items sounds like a lot, but not really; many of us have already filled them.

3.) Either allow us to retrieve dresser items, or increase what can go in the armoire
For the record I, personally, don't think it's terrible that items put into the dresser are destroyed. If they were items I was keeping around solely for glamour, it's not like I was using them as actual gear anyways. That said, I get that it's a concern for some people, especially with the low limit on items you can put in. So along with increasing the item limit, please let us take items in the dresser back out OR increase what can go into the armoire. Actually, preferably both. The armoire should be able to hold relics, augmented artifact sets and all Mog Station, holiday, and achievement items - no exception.

4.) Allow us to change the displayed glamour plate outside combat areas
I honestly have no idea why this is a restriction? It's not like we were forbidden from applying glamours in the field before, it was just unlikely to happen. It's a minor annoyance but an annoyance nonetheless.

5.) Allow us to use inventory items for gear plates
This is the biggest change that needs to be made. With the low item limit, and the ridiculous restrictions on armoires, we need to be able to use inventory items in plates because for those of us who play a lot of jobs, we're still going to be keeping a lot of pieces on our retainers and in our bags.

6.) Don't make glamour plates remove manually projected glamours
This is something that the need for can probably be nullified by increasing the numbers of plates, and I'm going to try to explain this the best way I can, by an example - when I applied a glamour plate for my ALC, I expected my Ala Mhigan gear to retain the appearance of my Songbird set, manually applied, on all my other crafters. However, the ALC plate removed the Songbird glamour, so I had to make another plate for the rest of my crafters, removing a plate I could have used for a different job.

Essentially, what should happen is that if you don't choose a specific plate to use, it should keep the appearance of something manually glamoured.

Basically allow a way to have glamour plates apply a glamour dispeller to the slot. Ideally have it so we can pick and choose which slots, to do it for, but even just having just a default plate that doesn't need setting up that just clears it all would work. Plate #0 would make sense, for example. I like the base look to my set, but because I used the glamour plate to make me look naked temporarily I have no way of going back to my normal look without obtaining a second set of identical gear to add to the dresser or manually dispelling each piece one by one. And second sets aren't possible or easy to do with some gear.

They have said they'll be doing that, along with increasing the number of plates.

mixed feelings towards the glam system. i mean its what i wanted with glams, but having no way to get the item back once you put it in... i like just wearing things without having to glam them sometimes y'know? when goofing around with friends and stuff.

and the fact mog stations just get 'destroyed' pretty much? nah. i'd rather keep that on my retainer until/ if this gets fixed.

I was hoping this system would allow mutiple glamours for 1 piece of gear so i could have one set for rdm and another for smn. You can't expect people to run to an inn every time they change jobs make the system only apply on the gear set selected or give us 26-28 spots and make modifying glamour plates only from inns but changing to that glamour available with same criteria there is currently with changing jobs. Also ability to label plates and macro glamour so it can be macroed in change job macro.

It's all a bit rubbish really. But it has opened up some space at least.

Mogstation stuff can't be put in the glamour dresser. Those items are placed in the armoire, then the glamour plate system accesses them from there.

Going to add my own feedback to this thread.

I appreciate that they are trying to improve the glamour system, but I think they really should have held off until they could implement in properly. Now that it's in, any larger changes are just going to be that much harder to make.

For starters, 200 slots is really not much, considering there are thousands of gear appearances in the game. With only 200, you cannot really build a collection and then build outfits from that collection. You can't just place whatever you think looks good without an idea of how you intend to use it. You still have to discriminate heavily about what items you keep vs what you toss, but tossing items means you lose the ability to include them in future glamours unless you go through the effort of acquiring them again.

Even more egregiously, 10 save slots for outfits is REALLY little. That is not even enough for 1 outfit for each battle job, let alone crafters and gatherers. In fact, even if all 10 of your outfits had a unique glamour for all 12 slots, that would not even fill the 200 slots of the dresser!

Thirdly, needing to sacrifice items to convert them to glamours is not only totally unnecessary, it just ends up causing all sorts of problems. The obvious one is people accidentally converting gear they want to use, but besides that, it means you are forced to choose between using an item or including it in plates.

Let's say I like the look of the level 50 Ironworks fending set. I want to make a glamour plate so I can apply it to my level 70 PLD, but I want to keep the set so my level 50 WAR can use it. With the current dresser system, I can only do one. My solutions are to either sacrifice the set to the dresser and then buy an entire new set for my WAR, or to make do with the old glamour system and apply all the glamours manually. Applying manually doesn't seem so bad, unless...

What if I wanted a second outfit for my PLD? Well, without a glamour plate for the Ironworks set, I would need to reapply the glamours every time I wanted to use it, taking additional time and paying additional prisms. This is the way the system worked before, but considering the dresser is meant to alleviate issues like this, it seems like an oversight. Sacrificing an item also means I lose the ability to equip it normally. If there's an item I like to wear only sometimes, but across many different outfits, I need to either give it its own plate (using up a valuable plate slot), or have a separate plate for each slight variation of an outfit (which is even worse).

Another issue is that glamour plates don't apply on top of manual glamours, but rather simply overwrite any existing glamour (or base appearance) with the plate items. This means that if I want to use multiple glamours on the same gear, but some of those glamours are not in plates (because as mentioned above, I would have to sacrifice gear I want to keep using), I have to manually dispel or reapply the glamours EVERY time I want to use them. For example, what if I wanted the default appearance of my current raid gear on my DRK, but a glamour plate outfit on my PLD who is wearing the same gear? I can't be expected to sacrifice my raid gear to the dresser and just get another set, so I have to dispel the glamours manually each time. At the very least, the glamour plate system should have a function to dispel the plate glamours.

The last issues I wanted to mention are being unable to edit plates when you're away from the dresser, and unable to apply plates outside major settlements. These are just annoying QoL issues which restrict the usability of the system. If you want two jobs using the same gear to have different outfits, you'd better hope you never have to change jobs outside cities.

I don't think these problems are as a result of laziness. I think the XIV team is well aware of these issues and what they would have preferred to do instead, they just lack either the expertise or the resources to do it. But I think they should understand how flimsy and weak excuses like "server limitations" and "it's better than nothing" are when this game's main competitor has a perfectly implemented system which automatically catalogs every single gear appearance you ever equip, across your entire account, and has basically no restrictions on where and when you change appearances. Excuses don't fly too well when your competitor is already offering a strictly superior feature.

So while I'm glad they acknowledge the glamour system enough to try and improve it in this way, doing it in such a half-baked way is disappointing. It may be "better than nothing", but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

For now, the devs should focus on removing the need to destroy items to add them to the dresser, and increasing the number of outfit and dresser slots dramatically.
But the ideal system would be:
- All items you equip are added to a full glamour catalog at no cost.
- Outfits can be assembled and applied anywhere (except instanced duties).
- Saving an outfit costs 1 prism per item, but makes applying that outfit free.
- Unlimited outfit save slots (or at least a high number, like 100+)
- Gear sets can attach a saved glamour outfit, which automatically applies whenever that gear set is equipped.

Regarding number 6, I think all the ingsme help as well as the patch notes are very badly worded. All of them suggest glamour plates are something you wear on top of the gear. They also give the impression you need to use glamour plate every time you switch to a job if you want to retain that plate look. That is simply not true (unless of course to applied some other glamour to the gear in between) , and I hope they would more strongly word in help texts that what the glamour plates do is Apply the set of glamour of the plate to the gear. They are just stamps, shortcuts. You can create a plate, glamour gear with it, then use the plate for something else. Now all help texts give the false impression that the glamour look is tied to the existence of the plate.

And that said, we should really be able to inude inventory items in the creation of a plate, even if it would exhaust a prism for every inventory item used when a plate is saved. That would alleviate the shortcoming of limited glamour inventory, since being as it is, it prohibits using any RNG items as glamour plate items currently. Can't have one healer in plaque doctor and another in royal robe since neither of them can be reacquired reliably when they eventually need to be replaced on the glamour log. After all, full set of glamour is about 10 items/job and we do have over 20 jobs. Even with the shortfall of just 10 current plates the glamour system could be used to give unique look to all classes with lots of inn visits..But if one wants to change the look of a job, the gear has to be destroyed. So they actively prohibit using dungeon gear in the plates now. If inventory items could be used in plates the nonremoval from glamour store would be almost ok.

You can! You can choose which plate you want outside of an Inn on the character pane. It's the button next to the Recommended Gear button. You can also view your plates there.

To make the switch easier, make a macro. Quoting myself from another thread.

Breakdown of that:

The number in the first line, and the first number in the second line, are the numbers of the sets you want to wear (they should be the same). The second number on the second line is the number of the glamour plate you want to use.

As an example, my weaver is gearset 12, and uses glamour plate 5. So my macro to switch to weaver looks like this:

/micon 12 gearset
/gearset change 12 5

It works flawlessly. I currently have all my crafters in one gear set except ALC, which is in a set I've been sitting on for three (!!) years.

I ran into this, and was a little miffed by it as well. However, after coming at it from a feature development standpoint, this is probably something that would require a whole line-one rewrite of the Glamour system to change. It feels like the Glam Plates we have now are only a placeholder, and are the first step towards that major change, which I'd bet probably won't be completely finished until 5.0. Really, that kind of systemic change can run deep, and/or there are more important things to assign development resources to right now.

Yeah this is just inexcusable, and really always has been even with screen status messages when changing job gear. At least give us a separate filter channel for "glamour changes" so we can shut it off ourselves.

Not correct. Mogstation items can not be placed in the armoire (maybe with the exception of the out-of-game event rewards that are now purchasable - i.e. Moogle outfit), but they can be placed in the dresser, and that's a dangerous, dangerous thing with how the system is currently implemented.

did not see that then only issue I have is that there needs to be atleast 26 plates and make everything from salvager avalible in armoire. Plus please put mog purchases on armoire and salvager

Something done right for once: Purple Weapons can not be put in the Glamour Dresser unless they are Replica weapons.

Why they couldn't do this with MogStation Items, I don't know.

Because artefact weapons have use as in-game items, and being upgradeable have continuous use for their existence as an items in the game. The mogstation stuff's main purpose is for glamouring so they assume people WANT to put them in the glamour storage. That is, in their mind the limitation to put something to glamour store is not related to the "must be deleted" issue, just for the "Has need use outside of glamouring"

And yes, I do know why you were asking it, just trying to figure it from their point of view. They don't see it as an issue that with such a small place people are practically forced to cycle through stuff to put into the plates, especially since plates can't apply look from inventory items.

my 3 heals have all the same gear. still cant make 3 different glams for each heal. new glamsystem is useless like the old one.

Honestly, what's the big deal about dumping mog items into the dresser? Barring the fringe case of "eh, I'm too lazy to glamour so I'll just wear this outright" (and obviously the 200 limit which will obviously be expanded in the future), the only purpose for the items is to glamour, isn't it? Assuming you're not hurting for dresser space, putting it in the dresser to apply it as a glamour gives the same effect of holding onto it to apply it as a glamour. As the feature is expanded, and restrictions and limitations are removed, I can't really see any reason to hold back on putting your glamour items into what is essentially a glamour inventory.

I found it fine, only thing i don't like is the running back and forth on inns which i don't really mind since i'm done with my plates but it was kinda ugh, then i notified my friends "how to not go back an dforth" basically i told em to buy/exchange like 300 glam prisms and none of em complained ez

But that's exactly the problem. And it's not obvious it will be expanded in any meamingfull timeframe. I have couple retainers worth of items I have saved for glamour purposes (excessive, maybe) and if I want to use them I need to cycle them and since all of them are RNG based the glamour store as it is simply doesn't cut it, so I actually can't use the plates either as they require the items to be in glamour storage.

Oh my god, PLEASE allow for us to retrieve items from the glamour dresser. This is a RIDICULOUS addition to the new glamour system. I threw in some leveling gear while really tired and just trying the thing out, then went to throw on my gear TO LEVEL, and now I have to go grind out the tomes to buy it all again. My own fault for not reading everything in depth, granted, but why would I assume that the dresser would EAT THE CLOTHES permanently? It's a dresser meant to hold clothes for an amount of time, right?Not, like, idk a garbage disposal. Though, I suppose I was wrong, about that.. :confused:

If you genuinely believe they don't intend to expand this within reason, then I guess just don't use it. I'll still call it shortsighted to think devs expected 200 items to be plenty. It's a limit they expected their infrastructure to handle easily while they determine how much of a strain it causes.

Testing things is good, but they will not get the data they need. If the inability to take things out of the dresser keeps people from putting things into it, the numbers show the inventory size for it is sufficient. That is why people are vocal about it now. To tell them -why- the numbers are what they are. And well, even if they enlarge it, a limited size is still a limited size. It still forces people to rotate things in it, and as such putting anything that can't be reacquired into it is no go.

That said, a limited "favourites" inventory is quite fine. I have said it before that if we could also include inventory items into plates, the dresser could then be used to the glamours you know you're going to return often. But as it is, the plates are nearly useless at least in my case, since using them to actually give different looks for jobs without sacrificing dungeon gear is impossible.

To reiterate, the limited space is a problem because plates can only use items in it. This changing your glamours in the plates will require destroying items. If plates could also hold visages of items in inve tory, the limited size of the dresser is more than reasonable.

Not all Mogstation purchases are Armoire-storable. Only past event items are coded to also go into the Armoire. But a lot of the more expensive Glamours such as the Chinese and Korean exclusives cannot be placed in there. The Eternal Bond outfits cannot either, nor can they be stored in the Dresser (I have two sets of the Platinum package dresses--I really wanted to save one to a Plate since I do like to wear the dress on my healers a lot, but cannot). This is something that should honestly be fixed, and soon (regarding all Mogstation items being Armoire storable, that is).


As for the OP, I agree with every feedback listed. And with Mhaeric's suggestion. I would like to add another one because I don't see it explicitedly stated in the OP:

While I know you can macro these when you change jobs, I feel like that's a needlessly cumbersome thing. Plates should be saved to specific gearsets to at least save a little bit of hassle if one frequently bounces between jobs that share the same gear. I wanted to use my healer AF3 sets for AST and WHM, but having to macro the Plate changes every time I switch jobs seems, again, needlessly cumbersome.

I hope to see most of these implemented in future updates.

I was just thinking about this today. I was telling my husband that bare minimum they should've released an equal amount of plates as you have gearsets available. And then there should be a button on the gearset window that allows you to link a specific plate to it.

i don't mind macroing them but if you can't change the glamour in the wild then it useability to being a tool to seperate jobs is extremely limited. smn and rdm are completely diffrent style same with war, drk, and pld SE got everyone hopes up this would be the system to finally bring diversity instead like housing in 4.1 fell far shot of expectations.

Two main issues currently :

200 item limit. Honestly I'm just using this as space atm. With only 200 items I can only make half glams, haven't found room for gloves/weapons/some feet/all accessories. So making a plate is icomplete and you still need to glam the missing pieces. In other words it is not usable in it's current form.

Worse is that we can't pull items out of the dresser (I thought they specifically said you could do this during the live letter?)

Right now this is welcome extra space but it's use is void. Only going back to it to glam a couple of items into a plate because I need them for a glam and those 2-3 items can't be pulled out of the dresser. So I glam myself, the go to dressing and make a plate with the missing items in my glam, and apply that. Tedious.

Default sorting method in glamour dresser - by Ilvl is useless for most players. Really - most wanted is class filters like in PF settings.

Saw reports in NN that Wedding gear <gowns/etc> cannot be put into the glamour dresser....veerrrry nasty that is.

Most of the issues I have with the dresser have already been mentioned in this thread.

Though it would be really nice to be able to search for glamour items instead of having to go to an inn.

Also, I was looking forward to putting the Feast glamour into the dresser but it seems that's impossible. Even if it were possible, would be nice to change it so that items won't be destroyed or at least make it so that items like PVP rewards and some MogStation items can be put into the Armoire. At the moment, even if they were allowed to be converted into glamour items, it seems really easy to accidentally destroy them (especially with PVP rewards being normal quality with no way to get them back if you accidentally throw them away).

Nope, you cannot, and I'm at a complete loss for why. They aren't required to have a wedding. As it is, those dresses are very popular glamours.

I apologize in advance if I'm reading this wrong but can't you just buy back said weapons from Calamity Salvager? I wanted to add Thyrus and before even finding out I could not, I checked to see if I could get it back in any way. Turns out, it's 1k gil from the Calamity Salvager.

That only applies to the first stages of the ARR relics, all the other ones cannot be re-obtained from the Calamity Salvager. You can only get the replica weapons back, and for ARR relics at least, you only unlock replicas after completing the full relic (unless it has been changed).

let us put non convertible gear into the glamour dresser, i have my cloud and zidane outfits and stuff like that that i cant put in there :(

Those go directly in the Armoire, and can be accessed from the Armoire through the Dresser, allowing you to retain access to the items without destroying them, while also gaining access to their glamours through the Dresser.

Only downside is if you've already dyed those items, but it's also possible to dye the glamours within the Dresser, so not entirely limited in that regard.

I hope Glamour Plate can be used somewhere at Costa del Sol, it is so embarrassing to change to swimwear at city before transported to Costa de Sol.

It's possible it will be able to be used in more locations now that they're letting plates be tied directly to gearsets in 4.3. But this is SquareEnix and user interface, so I'm not holding my breath.

Honestly now that I've been using the dresser for a while I'm still very happy with it, and being able to reclaim items will definitely alleviate the problem of only having 200 slots, but my most pressing concern now is why you STILL can't place the wedding gear in the dresser, OR in the armoire, making those pieces completely unusable for plates. Again, they're not required to do the quest...only the wristlet and ring are. These are the only pieces like that, every other piece of gear in the game can be placed either in the dresser or armoire and be freely used for glamour (in the case of relics, their replicas).

The improvements we are getting definitely show they want to get this system more functional though, so I'm glad on that count! I just reeeaaaalllly want the wedding outfits fixed. Especially since I spent real money on them!
