My points on SCH, AST, WHM and healer role actions

Hello, i wanted to share my opinions just for fun :3

I will just write which abilities, in my opinion, needs a poking.

SCH

Dissipation: I think it is just useless. I have been a sch main over 2 years now and i have never used it once. I may be wrong, there can be uses and i think it is not necessary. And idea: It may reset fairy gauge and replace it with aetherflow instead of killing my beautiful angels!
Excogitation: In most situations it wears off. I know they are poking it in 4.2 but instead of just ticking the healing, i think it can make a shield of the healing potency or something. If it isn't used anyway, which means tank is above %50 hp and why would i need it to tick?.. It has some uses and a great ability but your fellow healer needs to notice (hahaha) you put excog on tank <3
Aetherpact: Make fairy use its actions as well under fey union (god pleaseee!)
Eos: Make her hug us!
Selene: Poor soul. Rework silent dusk please... It is another useless ability. Maybe make it like a magical vulnerability ability to mobs or something. I don't care if it is just another heal tbh, i wouldn't care if they removed it because it is useless anyway. And also fey wind needs its potency up. Poor selene. You are homeless girl.

AST

Honestly can't find anything to say. Don't need nerfing, but don't need more utility in other expansions in my opinion.

WHM

Aero II and III: It really bugs me one of them is 18 sec, and the other 24 sec. Idk why, i keep on not putting aero II out of laziness because i can't stone enough!
Thin Air: Don't need touching, it is the best ability in the entire universe <3 Also maybe benediction. Maybe.

ROLE ACTIONS

Cleric Stance: 15 sec with %5 buff. Just why? Another braindead ability. Please make it %10 or 20 buff or extend the duration so we can be happy.
Break: Why?
Protect: It just covers a precious spot and it is useless for the rest of the dungeon etc. It should be removed.
Esuna: Needs to be not a role action. I miss leeches and exalted detriment. Yes, you make me miss them. Please remove this as a role action because it is kinda, you know, mandatory.
Surecast: We, for sure, need this. (being sarcastic). :3
Rescue: LALALALALA. He he.

Sorry for saying not much about AST and WHM, i think they are in a good spot right now. SCH needs poking though and idk why they ignore it. And ofc, role actions are disappointing. They said ''revamped actions!'' for sb. But all we got is rescue. They trolled hard. Role actions must be not mandatory, they need to be useful abilities which are optional. Like largesse or eye for an eye. They are an example in my opinion. Making lucid dreaming, esuna, swiftcast a role action is just useless.

Thin Air is good but I would argue Assize is the best ability in a WHM's kit.

I said it before and i'll say it again - this is an Emergency skill. if you main SCH and you do prog or pug, then you should understand how this skill can save the day. i think the main issue of most people with Dissipation is that it is not used at all in normal "perfect group" runs and also the fact that it wastes Fariy Gauge, but there were many time i could save my group a wipe and get a first kill simply because i could get these 3 aetherflow stacks to heal up tank and group along with healing potency increase. so i don't think this ability needs and overhaul, maybe just unsummon and instant resummon once it wears off

Yes Dissipation!! Please make it to re-summon the fairy that's all I ask.

benediction is an emergency tool as well, they can extend the cooldown time and make dissaption like that. I mean like every 3 min, it gives you extra 3 stacks or something. Because it is designed to make your fairy go away right now, and summoning it asap afterwards doesn't make sense a bit. They need to change how that ability works in the end. It is not optimal in my opinion.

I think dissipation needs 2 change
1: the healing potency and fairy ban reduced to 15sec.
As silent voice said, it is an emergency skill. However usually an emergency doesn't last 30sec.

The lost of the gaug doesn't help and should in fact either be kept or be consumed for further buff in a way or another.
The auto résumons would be nice but since they nerfed the mana cost and cast time, resummoning the fairy isn't an issue. If after the emergency you can find time to dps the boss, Im pretty sure you can fit a gcd to summon it back
Regarding fey wind I do not agree with a buff to 5% without affecting the cd.
AST strength is his buffs. It has the least potency and ogcd heal as well as the worst ma a management. All of these flaw are compensated by having the best group (dps) utility.

Buffing fey wind to 5% would equal it to a spread arrow every min which would equal AST buffing capacity with the same buff. However unlike AST.,fey wind isn't random. You will ALWAYS have it every min where as AST has to not only tool around the cards (every sec you waste doing so pile up and eventually every cd you lost Time will turn into a lost card cd), and is random. I rarely get a spread arrow/balance every min.

So while there is sleeve draw, it is still a draw and I got my fair share of spread tower with stored tower

If you take into account AST randomness + low personal dps, buffing Selene to 5% could very well make Sch bring more dps and heal than AST to the raid in most scenario (excluding those snowflake event where you just keep drawing aoe balance,)

Small note regarding exo, the point of Sch is to prevent damage, in this case you need to know when the damage comes. The skill is already quite strong and good at what it does, I really don't see why you want it to make a shield, why would you need to heal if it fades when the tank was full? Well you just failed to use the spell like popping lucid dream in a transition while you're already at full mana would be a failed used of the skill.
I'm personally really surprised they allowed it to proc at the end of its duration as imo it wasn't necessary, this game doesn't lack tank burster or occasions to use it.

I mean what's next? Fading shield should also turn into a heal because it didn't absorb anything?

Yeah Dissipation is a bit questionable, that 20% healing boost doesn't do much for a SCH as it only really affects Physic, Adlo and Succor which aren't used a whole lot for any actual healing, not to mention that most of your healing comes from Eos anyway, which kind of nullifies the 20% healing bonus.

The only neat thing about it is the Aetherflow refill, but it's just never worth it to use Dissipation if you have even one stack of Aetherflow on you or if Swiftcast is up.

I mean, if you ever find yourself in a situation where everyone is dying and you have no Aetherflow stacks, no Swiftcast and Aetherflow skill is on cooldown, THEN it might be worth using Dissipation if you have Indomitability at ready, but it's still such a niche skill and I hate it.

The problem with it being used as an emergency cooldown is the latency involved both mechanically (how quickly you can hit your dissipation then start mashing Lustrate/Indom) alongside the net code limitations of this game where your client will wait for the server to tell it that you indeed have those Aetherflow charges.

It's got a little value if things are steadily going south and you don't have any fairy gauge, but as a snap cooldown for panic situations, it's rarely fast enough. If it automatically lustrated your target as you used the dissipation, that would change things massively with it.

Well, yes ast cards are random and fey wind is consistent, but ast cards are ALWAYS useful now. With the change of spear, they are all valuable. I don't mean ast is op or anything, and i didn't make the comparison between ast and sch, ast is fine as it is now, but i don't think they should utilize it even further if they will keep whm and sch's utilies the same. What i meant by fey wind needs buff is, there is a lot less reason to use selene instead of eos. Eos' abilities basically makes you dps more which negates fey wind. Fey wind needs to be stronger so you can use it efficiently, atop of your dps. Idk if i make sense, but well, with eos i dps more, with selene i can't. and fey wind being like this makes me not to choose selene basically.

This is a really good point, many consider Benediction to be somewhat unreliable as a true emergency heal, but it still comes out faster than a Lustrate/Indom after Dissipation, and it doesn't sacrifice your most valuable healing tool for it.

Silent dusk is useless. there are tons of other jobs who can silence mobs. And fairy casting time and action time is being unpredictable, silencing a mob with it may be too late. So making a relatively useless ability into a useful one isn't the solution? They did it with ast's spear. They can rework what silent dusk does. It can be like bard's warden's paean. It can be placed on a target then if there is a debuff, it removes it instantly etc. There, a single target esuna. Or they can do it like synastry and make the placed target be healed as well. i don't know, these ideas are from the existing abilities ofc, but it is pretty useless at the moment. Any chance would be nicer regardless.

And fey wind being %3 is just bad. Why would i give up Eos for that? My point is to be able to choose Selene over Eos, which fey wind doesn't succeed this. I don't count fey caress which has uses.

You're not using it correctly if it doesn't wear off. In dungeons, either in the middle of a big pull so you have that extra healing buffer to get your DPS going before resorting to GCD heals, or used inplace of a lustrate if it'll proc immediately since it's higher potency. Don't overheal to the point where Excog will never proc.

In raids, it's one of the best tank healing skills in the game. I am absolutely riding the cooldown on it in Ultimate Coil since it lines up with near every major source of incoming damage to the tank, and it takes a ton of GCD healing stress off to allow more room for dps in a fight that mandates healer dps. It's also the only skill in the game that can heal between queue'd up auto-attacks on a tank buster.

I know Silent Dusk is bad and useless.
I never said that changing it into a useful skill is not a solution. My point was that they can't change useless skill into another DPS increase because it would be too much for scholar.

Fey Wind isn't as bad as it looks cause the buff is up every 60s for 30s on everyone.
They can't change it to 5% cause it's the current effect of an extended arrow. But a guanranteed arrow every 30s.

So if they had to make some adjustement to Silent Dusk, it should be something that doesn't mitigate, doesn't heal or doesn't increase dps. Because again, balance between healers.
Scholars is already the most versatile healer with plenty of way to heal, mitigate, restore mana, help the party.

I think that's why there has been no change to Silent Dusk or Dissipation until now. Scholar is really strong, and that's hard to find a way to adjust these two skill without making him broken.

@kaisha, i agree on what you say. i use it that way as well. Dungeons aren't a problem mostly and i don't raid ultimate coil :P i am restricted to extreme primals, i like to play casually a bit. But with raids, like 24 man or ex primals or omega nm, what i see is, when i use excog, other healer doesn't notice and keeps healing the tank and it wears off mostly. That was my point on that mostly. Other than that, i agree excog being amazing. I can put dots and stuff without worrying tank is gonna murder him/herself :3

@KDSilver, you may be right but wasn't the sb revamp on abilities making them useful or erasing useless ones? They are just lazy i think. They can change it without breaking anything. I mean they should be with this revamped system :P

Sebazy is very right and I also forgot to say that the 20%heal should also affect skills. (but that is more something that needs to be done on all healers)

Regarding the reply on selene needing a buff.
She does need a buff. But not to fey wind, every job need to retain some identity and strong point. AST is a buffer and if you play it on a regular basis, you should know that the card system can be extremely unreliable making AST contribution quite random, I had attempt with almost 100 % uptime on balance/arrow and other where I would only get bole and s ewer. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with it, (it is the cost of having great buff), however, if you buff Selene wind to 5%,you buff her by 60%, add libra and Sch strong dps to the mix, you severely injure AST identity as a buffer. (on the dps side of things at least)

Side note, the tower should be reworked, TP recovery is useless in all raid encounter and remotely useful in dungeon. The recovery status could easily be transfered to Ewer. However beside "healing received increased" I don't see what else could be done as buff



I propose that people bring idea to replace silence and aoe esuna while keeping in mind balance and feywind.
In other words, what change would you bring to her that would make the choice between her and Eos an actual choice (and not an obvious choice because one is clearly better in most situation)

I propose: autorez once every 2min.
Pro saves mana, can replace smn/RDM, makes swift cast more usable for heals. (gb those situation where you SC succor and you see the dragon die from random stuff 5sec later)
Con: useless if no one dies, doesn't help preventing death

Indeed, that's what SB was aiming for.
And I think they were a bit lazy too. It looked fine without trying to changes these skills so they didn't do anything.

Actually, what would be one of the "best choice", is making Silent dusk being the physical form of Fey Covenant and make it share the same CD (cause right now, it shares its CD with Whispering Dawn).
And magical/physical increase is around a 8% damages mitigation. So that's okay.

If you buff the potency or increase the duration then you got to ask what's the point of having any DPS role at all if the healers can do more damage and/or for longer. Yes 5% is not a lot, but healer DPS is or can already be high, so if you want to DPS more try a different role.

If you buff the potency or increase the duration... you actually make Cleric Stance a more valuable choice among Cross Role action, cause right now, it barely make a difference and it's ridiculous.
They decided to keep it and make it a buff instead of completely removing it. 10% during 15s or 5% during 20s would be at least better.

It has nothing to do with the role itself.
It's taking a cross role action that make a real difference.

I hate that argument. Dpsing as a healer is not dpsing as a DPS, it's because it's more challenging cause you have healing to do too, that's the interesting part of trying to optimize healing and dps.

And it's not to "DPS more" that a change to Cleric Stance should be done, but, as I said, to give it a good reason to take a cross action spot instead of something else.

with esuna, protect, lucid dreaming, largess, eye for an eye, swiftcast, etc etc. being there, i won't grab a %5 buff 15 sec duration cleric stance :3 that was my point @kurando :3

ofc i like to dps, and i never say healers SHOULD dps. Play how you want to play. I like dpsing as a healer BUT that cleric stance is pathetic to be grabbed :3

You need to do more content then. It's very applicable in pretty much any scenario that requires minimal/no healing. You can usually find these opportunities early on in fights, or very obvious stages like the DPS race on Shinryu Ex. When you look at the ability that way, it's not overly niche, you simply have to learn to use it. In any raid, you should always use it at the last few % of the boss. The additional 3 AF stacks paired with Quickened Aetherflow is very powerful.

Then it also has its niche uses for healing, as it was supposedly intended. Though these scenarios are far more situational.

In agree with you mostly, but the bold part is not true, because scholars use the skill in optimise runs depending on the fight. For instance, i use it during exdeath and re summon the fairy when the boss is not targetable anymore after decisive battle. Dissipation is just as skill with niche usage as you said.

I just had an idea for Dissipation :
Orders your pet away while granting you a full Aetherflow stack. Also increases healing magic potency by 20%.
Duration: 20s
The fairy gauge is not removed (it will if the timer ends and there is no fairy).
Summon or Summon II become instant cast (until the end of the duration of Dissipation).
Cast Summon or Summon II will end the effect of Dissipation.

Totally agree with you, that esuna should NOT be a role action and cleric should get a buff. Nowadays, i wouldn't mind if they delete protect either.

To be honest, outside of QoL issues scholar is the best overall healer in my opinion and should be nerfed a bit. Noct Ast for example stands no chance against scholar atm. Don't get me wrong, you can do every content as noct ast. It is just weaker than scholar and you notice this especially in ultimate.

My one WHM gripe is that I hate Stone IV and really miss Stone III. I know it's minor (and maybe silly to some people) but I love the animation and sound effect a lot more on Stone III.

Surecast is only useful in shinryu and exdeath cuse its necessery to sustain dps. But otw its not much of a use

Dissipation doesn't get enough love as an actual mitigation tool. It's incredibly strong for pulse AOE phases, more so when you pair it with largesse which makes your succor hit harder than an unbuffed deploy. It also has its uses as a dps/emergency healing CD. Even though it's an incredibly boring skill it's still very useful.

Cleric actually isn’t horrible if you’ve got the slot to spare and you’ll see plenty of high end healers using it diligently. it’s just such a lame amount that it’s super underwhelming on the surface despite the damage component not actually being that bad. I do agree that piling more damage on it is a bad move. Perhaps adding a modest mp cost reduction to offensive spells for the duration would be the change it needs to make it stand out more? Tacking like 20% on suddenly makes it very interesting for all 3 healer roles, especially in AoE situations.

Whilst I'm still kind of meh about it's value even as a DPS tool now (maybe I'm just salty about the resummon bug getting fixed), this is a very good point that I totally overlooked.

It's not an excuse. I don't want more damage. I want a more efficient Cleric Stance that deserve to take that 5th spot. Increasing the duration or the damage is a way. Not the only I agree. (it was an example if you prefer, not the main argument)
I was talking about the "challenge" of DPSing as a healer, cause you said dpsing healer took the wrong job, so, I responded that what is actually fun is dpsing by being a healer cause we do both. That's what we like. So switching to a DPS wouldn't be the same feeling.

Healer damages will never be considered, even if Cleric Stance would get buffed. They said it several times so there's nothing to worry about.

Can't speak for the other classes, but when that 5% is being multiplied by WHM-Holy vs X mobs during tri/quad-pulls, the damage is not to be sniffed at. You can bet your Lal'ass that I'm opening on that triple pack with QC-Holy followed by PoM/TA/CS > HOLY, HOLY, HOLY BAZINGA. Think of that Stingray quad-pull in Skalla. Now, add 5% to every hit from Holy on that (I dunno, 10-12+ mobs?)

NOTE: I'm certainly not advocating it as 'good', but it has its place... For some... For now... However niche. Still, until they make something else worth taking over it, I'll always have it on my bar when I know Esuna isn't required.

QCas/Prot/Luci/Larg/Cleri for me, with Esuna replacing Cleric only in specific content where I know dispels are required and DPS windows will suffer.

SIDENOTE: To those saying Protect is only useful at the start, well... Yes and no. While the defensive stats it provides aren't mandatory, I'd hate to cast it once and remove it for the rest of the dungeon seeing as there's quite a lot of situations where you're raising a bunch of mechanic-eating plebeians who would benefit from a re-cast so that you stave off some additional damage-taken (however small). Considering how poor the Role-Action selection is, I have room for Protect AND Cleric because a lot of the choices are just nonsensical or stupendously niche.

I'm a "protect once then swap" kinda guy. Protect needs to be removed, it's pointless, and they should just buff everyone's base defense to compensate. Or even better rework it into the PvP version.

Surecast is much better than people give it credit for. The amount of knockbacks/tilts/draw in effects in recent times has increased massively, and being able to cheese them on such a short cooldown is amazing. Especially since the change that means that the buff lasts the whole duration and isn't consumed on a single cast. It's way more impactful and useful than esuna, which is mandatory in like 2 fights.

Well, indeed, largess doesn't affect aetherflow heals and the fairy but
Getting a 20% boost on shield is still great and free (and since they reduced Fey Illumination to 10%)
That's still a great tool even if scholar only has 3 spells that uses it.

Besides, stronger shields mean less healing to do, so eventually more dps for both healers.

I wouldn't swap largess for Cleric Stance.

I get that, but in dungeons I only ever use Adlo 6-10 times, and half of the time it's to apply a shield on the tank before they pull mobs, Excog, fairy and OGCDs do the rest.

Even in higher end content like Shinryu, Excog on one tank and basic Adlo on the other does the job for Ahk Morn, Whispering Dawn and whatever regen effects the other healer has on them take care of the rest, Succor is only ever used to put a shield on the group before and sometimes after AoE damage.

I would only ever really appreciate having Largesse on me if the other healer is dead for whatever reason and Swiftcast isn't up.

I mean, at the end of the day, Eos does 50%+ of my healing, Indo, Excog and Lustrate following after, and then maybe Galvanize...

Speaking as someone that stuck with scholar even when we were considered under performing, don't buff us. Dissipation is fine. It takes like 3 seconds to summon a faerie and you get 3 aether and 15 seconds off the aetherflow cooldown. There's two instances in Neo exdeath where you get to use dissipation for free making mana an almost non-issue. Excog is just lustrate-but-better and the new 4.2 buff to it makes it almost brain dead to utilize. Indom is stupid broken. Buffing us would be stupid.

Personaly the only thing I would like is the buff to only last 15sec. I just don't need it for that long. And also that the healing buff affects our ogcd.
But that's more something that would affect all healers.

Im in a way disappointed at the excitement buff, I just don't see the point, this game does not lack tank buster where it can be used.
