Any clue as to how Rival Wings will work? Strategies?

Hi all,
Having never touched or played any kind of MOBA, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on how Rival Wings may work? As in, strategies that teams might use to destroy the towers and eventually reach the enemy base, as well as dealing with what I guess are minions? What role would those huge mechs play? Personally, as a PLD, I wonder if I'd have any role at all.

Overall just wondering if anyone with MOBA experience (since it seems all the sites and such are referring to it as a MOBA-like kind of mode) has any guesses. Thanks!

The beauty of this mode is that everyone, new PvPer or veteran, are all going to be brand new to it. We can learn it together and create strategies.

I myself have never played a MOBA, but I do plan to stream it on day one, and encourage others to try it out (assuming I like it, of course).

That said, I had a few basic ideas in a previous post:

"The Oppressor will be the big counter to that, plus the cannons are mounted near the core. If nothing's going on near the core, there's nothing to shoot at except mammets. . . if they even make it that far. Also I'm pretty sure if someone on a steam cannon can shoot at you, if you're ranged, you can shoot back or flank them outside the cannon's max range. I'll be testing that out personally on day one.

See a Cruise Chaser? Focus and overpower it, it has low defense. Oppressor? It's slow. DoT it up and let it ride, if it reaches the tower, have a team stationed to deal with it. Brute Justice? Well, at least you know you're winning if the other team gets one. Everyone focus and crush it. Send a skirmish team or two for the core and secure the win.

As for the Power Generator. . . I hope people understood how to play Seize."

Based on my knowledge on several moba games and a little info about the new mode

1) Protect your tower at all cost. ( from what i heard, tower down = a robot is spawned for enemy team )
2) let your minion (soldier) tank the tower
3) basically you want to kill the soldier as fast as possible, and protect your soldier attacked by the enemy. ( Basically zoning enemy team away )
4) Gank the lane, counter gank, etc
5) stay in a group

Your main objective is to take the enemy core and protect yours. To do that you need to first destroy the two towers protecting it while keeping yours from being destroyed.

There are 3 parties of 8 per team and 3 lanes to combat in. There's the top lane and bottom lane which go to the respective towers and end at the enemy core and the mid lane which goes to the power generator. The power generator gives the controlling team a buff. The mammets are mostly cannon fodder but can destroy a tower if left alone and the machina are specialized powerhouses which you'll want to focus down asap.


The most basic of strategies is each party takes a lane. Top and bottom protect their tower and destroy the enemy tower, mid captures and defends the generator. If one lane is very strong you can peel off members from another lane to bolster the weak one or gang up on one side to crush the enemy before they know what hit them. More detailed strategies depends on team comps and player skill. I'm sure within a couple days or week there will be some detailed suggested strategies posted on the forums from the experienced PVP players.

There are 6 parties of 4 per team.

It might be because maybe I'm interpreting the details a little differently, but I get the feeling that this mode may have a bit of backlash if the core gameplay ends up being focused on relying on the Alexander bosses/NPCs/etc.

People already seem to roll their eyes at the idea of "not PvP'ing" in Shatter to take the lead (and I remember people scoffing at the idea to 'hold positions and don't engage' in Seize), and the stacking battle-high thing sounds like a potential runaway lead mechanic on paper. Another concern I'm predicting is "x mechanic is too strong" or "it all boils down to who utilizes x single mechanic better and the rest are irrelevant" sort of things. I'm more interested in the fact that there are no GC teams anymore and you won't likely see the same faces on your alliance repeatedly (for better or worse).

The 6 parties a 4 people really irritates me. The idea is most likely that it would be useful to assign certain groups to certain tasks on the new map, as you probably need to split up forces to be successful. E.g. group A attacks the tower, group B escorts the vehicles and so on. The problem now already is that people don't run with their groups together. Making it difficult for healers to use their heals on member outside of the group, some of the buffs only work on groupmember aswell.

Now a standalone group is most effective with a tank that can do cc, a healer and dps obviously..if the system allows any role like in all frontline modes where it is not rare to see a group completely consisted out of dps, then this new mode will be a huge clusterfuck. I expect players to do whatever they want anyway and follow the majority instead of their groupmember.
So let's say they have implemented the restriction that a group must consist of a healer tank and 2 dps. This means we need 12 tanks and 12 healers per match and 24 damage dealer. It will increase the queue time in the long run.
Players want their exp to level so they will only queue with the class they are not 70 yet, as they cant change classes anymore during the fight in the respawn zone.

The impact of premade teams will be even less significant because they would be only 1/6 of the players of the alliance compared to 1/3 in other frontline modes.

I hope they added some sort of kick/afk/troll protection for the items/vehicles, would be interesting to see a afk player sitting it getting kicked and the item disappears aswell.

Well, it was surprisingly fun. some notes:

The mechs are really big. That's cool and all but it's annoying concerning targeting.

Speaking of targeting. For some reason, the default targets seems to be whoever is closest, making it kinda clunky. I dunno maybe I'm missing some setting?

Mega Beam one hit kills range dps. Ok, cool and all, but it feels a bit cheap. Perhaps make the potency 10K instead of 12k?

not sure if you're on ps4 but yes it always target closest, in pc there's a choice to ignore depth and cone.
the default ignore depth is annoying from left to right instead of bottom to top first, im trying getting used to cone atm.

Keeping the middle owned is important, you gain Ceruleum at 1/tick, might be faster but it's very important considering they are used to summon warmachines.

I know you can find ceruleum tanks on the ground to gain 10 per pickup and I think killing the automatons gives you 1 a kill. I'm not sure if any others give you ceruleum.

Then you have the 3 Warmachines.

Cruise Chaser can have up to 6 summoned aka no limit. It has the least HP 30k, but it does moderate dmg to players and devestating dmg warmachines as well as move fast so you can be evasive.

Oppressor you can only have 2 summoned at a time, It has 75k HP, it's slow moving but it does insane dmg against the Towers 200k a succesful hit. The attack in question is a placed AoE which has diminishing returns depending how far the target is from the radius. The recast of the ability is 15 seconds.

Brute Justice can only be summoned twice a match and only if a tower goes down, 1 for each tower. It does the most dmg to players and decent dmg to towers at 40k being highest I believe. Brute Justice helps to play the defense and while it can be used for offense it's not something you want to rush into the battlefield unless you are confident you will take out a huge portion of the enemy line.

Last line of defense are two cannons, they guard the stairs and are very important in keeping your main tower safe. You can fire off shots in quick succession so you pretty much want to make your opponent dance the moment you get a lock on their location. There is no need to pause your attacks since there is no cost to using the cannons.

However going back to cost, the 3 Warmachines all cost to use and they also use EP to use abilities which can only be recharged with Ceruleum.

All Warmachines cost 50 Ceruleum to summon, 25 to recharge their EP

Also, the map is very important to pay attention to as is the unique UI during the match. It will indicate not only what warmachine is summoned by the enemy side but the map also shows you the location of all active warmachines.

So if you see a warmachine is active on the UI, you can open your map and discern it's location and intercept it to defend your towers.

Basically what you want to do is have Cruise Chasers play defense for the Oppressor while they slowly make their way to the target.

Apparently its just whoever controls mid the longest so they can overwhelm towers with robots, and whoever has the most healers to keep players up so they can kill the enemy team's robots and control mid.

Holding Mid is nice but not that great. It takes 2 minutes 30 seconds for mid to charge the teams enough to summon a mecha. The respawning tanks under mid is actually far faster way of getting a mech up and running.

Oppressor seems like a really win-more mech that's only good if you were already going to win the game. It has basically zero impact against players and mechs as 2000 potency (with falloff) on a 15s cd is worse than useless, you do more damage as a player. People still run away from the missile because it's day 1, but once they learn it doesn't even tickle them they will stop respecting it.

It has only one use and that's to damage buildings, so if you can't actually push and hold the line at your opponent's structures then it's useless. Having 1 around to capitalize on when you successfully push up to a structure is alright, but beyond that it feels like you're far better off spawning cruise chasers to help you win fights and push the opponents back. If you're in the midst of losing the game you really don't want one and you're better off with more cruise chasers until you can turn the tide.

The steam cannons at the base are surprisingly strong too, they can 2-shot players and fire extremely quickly (1 round per second or so if you spam it properly), you can wipe entire alliances who don't respect its firepower.

The only way to win is with oppressors currently, as they hit structures with like 20-30% and all others barely scratch them. Players rather try to burst down towers instead of protecting the minions and letting them do their suicide move, because it seems faster. They get therefore generally ignored. If minion suicide damage would be around 10% gameplay could change and it would be possible to progress without oppressors.

Expecting nerfs to brute justice in some form. Instead of group support its more like a 1 man army if you are used to it.

I'll check it out. I'm used to fast target nearest enemy, not just any nearest target. That how it's always been. Now I've lost count of how many times I've targeted teamplayers as DPS just because they're closer. It's annoying with a controller (not PS4 I'm using controller on PC. No clue how people play this game with keyboard + mouse).

There's so much wrong with this mode, where to start

1) 20 minutes is way too long for a match, and last 5 minutes or so usually nothing going on. All matches end by timeout.
2) There's almost no PvP. Whatever of it left (fights for center generator) just shows how inbalanced jobs are. I tried to catch and kill anything on melee and was killed before I could even approach kiting bards.
3) Leechers/AFKers fest, many people are already AFKing at bottom in water hoping nobody will notice. And why should they bother if the game rewards them even for losing.
4) Opressors move too slowly and usually destroyed before they can approach the core, making them mostly useless.
5) Fighting towers is as fun as hitting striking dummies.
6) It feels generally aimless and boring and I just can't wait for a match to end to get another credit (or not) for a mount.

SE, please stop with this PvE nonsense and bring us Seal Rock 2.

Really wish people would stop abandoning mid. Just leaving 1 party there is fine. But every game I've lost, the enemy has mid majority of the time and we get overrun by mechs. Even as the mechs murder them all, they sit there yelling "ignore the mid! ignore the mid, no one go there!" and wonder why mechs made it all the way to the core even tho they are destroying them.

I'll add that tanks only add CE for your party. Gen is 1 tick for the whole alliance.

I love the map, it's really cool, ceruleum tanks pop pretty much anywhere in the mid, mid-top and mid-bottom, each ceruleum tank gives 10 fuel, 1 player can sneak and just gather tanks to keep his party fuel full.

The mid building is like a zergfest at start match, whoever comes first gets it most of the time, that's probably where most PvP encounters happen.

I love the huge amount of different-heights scenarios within the map, I had a MCH hunting down cruise chasers wihtout getting killed even once, he just jungled and took down every single cruise chaser on the lanes takin advantage of the height of the ground and his appaerance (lalafell with white-green glam as camo).

It seems that you can not hit the core unless both towers are down, not even mammets or mechs can, I saw some adopt the strategy to let one tower die so die hard-camp the remaining one while pushing on the same lane of the camped tower.

1. Matches take long right now because people either aren't pushing effectively, or generally don't know what to do. As knowledge and experience builds, I expect more matches to go quicker.
2. The Generator is basically Mini-Seize, ground forces are REALLY strong support/counteroffense against Chasers, and even more against Oppressors.
3. Call them out to the whole alliance. Report them. Kick them. Don't let them ruin the fun for everyone. Seriously. If people want to come in and leech, they can get kicked. If it doesn't fly in PvE, why should it in PvP?
4. Oppressors should be escorted by a combination of Chasers (AHEAD of the Opp, not behind it), and ground forces to cover both. Oppressors don't need to stop and fight players. Get to the tower and attack that. Have your team handle other threats.
5. While the towers give the defense and regen buffs, those don't apply to mechs. They can't be healed. Focus down the mechs, pull out or knockback players out of their tower's fields. That will take coordinated efforts of course.
6. If people are utilizing mechs wrong, not pushing lanes, overfocusing mid, not covering each other or working together, yeah, it can seem aimless. But when they do, it's quite a fun mode.

Ok, I was wrong it's only on the mammets that for some reason has the same priority as the "real" enemies. Trying to target that spoony bard in front of you? Don't have any mammets between, friendly included. You'll target them instead by default. Speaking controller of course.

It's actually surprising how long I can hold mid solo as a DRK. I prioritise surviving and hitting whoever is trying to capture the generator, dragging out the fight so that they have to start bringing enough people to make it past my sustain.

By that point, either backup arrives, or they've just had to 5v1 somebody, so that means there's less people doing everything else.

Only thing that bugs me is that it is literally impossible to solo any healer. Like, no amount of skilled play or well timed burst can kill them. So if I go into gen and there's one SCH standing there, I cant do anything at all.

they need to get rid of mid altogether, the whole meta is take it and you more or less win. If you take it, just leave 3 healers and a dps or two and no one can kill them. It's barely two days and it's already gotten stale.

Why would you even solo a healer. 1 tank and 1 dps are enough to take down a healer, if 1 tank and 2 dps even better

Oh, if the healer is decent you'll need three or four. Any healer can survive a tank and a single dps.

The tanks only show up in the bottom level of mid. The mammets can give five apiece, but you can't beat the cereulem generation owning mid can give. you can get like ten every 5-10 seconds times 3.

The lower areas of North (in the water around the pillar) and South (on the buildings) also have CE tanks.

I have little interest in controlling mechs. I'm fine with letting other people handle it. I've enjoyed playing support and escorting mechs or hunting down opponent mechs. Is anyone else like this?

I'm not like that strictly because I don't have confidence that my team understands what you should be doing with each mech.

Cruise Chasers should primarily be trying to kill Oppressors and sniping at things with Hawk Blaster instead of rushing into the thick of things due to how squishy they are. Laser X Sword is good if there are melee clumped around an allied Oppressor or if there's a healer that needs to be bursted down, but otherwise shouldn't be used much due to it generally not being that difficult to avoid.

Oppressors should only be using Steam Burst on melee players/stupid players who stand on the edges of cliffs while moving to a target and dropping missiles on towers/core from max range. I only try to drop a missile on players as a last resort if I know I'm going to die.

The Brute Justice should be escorting Oppressors and assisting in breaking the towers/core if there's no threats that need to be addressed, though rushing in as a last resort to get some extra damage in on the towers/core before a game ends can be viable at times. A rocket punch followed by Flamethower/Megabeam will kill any non-tank players that aren't using mitigation cooldowns, so they're one of the best ways to get rid of those pesky healers.
