Why are not all accessories locked behind jobs, including the old ones ?

Hi I'm a new player in Final Fantasy 14. I got to the end of the game today. When I was levelling, I found out I could STILL wear all the old accessories pre-SB normally. This has gotta be a bug right ? I am playing tank, and I see that in this game, Strength is the attribute that gave me attack power; so I figure, I can just wear as many Strength rings as I want if I want the extra attack power - I thought I could not though because of the Stormblood patch notes.
If this is a technical problem, please fix this Square Enix. I think it's very deluding. Maybe a new player like me who does not know the game will still wear .... Vitality accs for example, to have more HP because they think they need it to survive, but they missed the fact that DPS should just do more damage by wearing the best gear that gives you the most attack power increase stat. It is not stable too, that the Stormblood accessories are locked behind jobs as intended but not the old accessories, that is really stupid.

Please dont lock the old ones, removing more glamour options like that. -.-

From what I remember, the devs said that going on accessories will be Class/Job locked. They probably were worried because of all the tank-mains wearing STR accessories going into SB.

No it was because people ilvl cheat into dungeon trials or raids. Main reason since some people thought mnd was good on smn for example. But would also say a little bit of what you said. Scale good players down to bad ones.

Because of the ridicolous tank nerf VIT = HP ONLY.... <.<a Im wearing ilvl270 STR Accessories as a protest and to DO actually damage! I wont wear any VIT Accessories till they change it back! > :( As Paladin: with full ilvl270 of STR Acc's, the damage raised ALOT! Alone Auto atk fraised from tiny 700 to 1000! Not to mention all other atk skills >-> Why bother with SB Acc's if they only boost your Max HP...? So yeah.. soon we will have "tanks" full of STR gears in raids back... thanks SE...

I still see tanks wearing the SB STR accessories even at level 70.

It's rather annoying to encounter them while doing hunts, because they pull aggro off me really easily but strain the healers a lot more when the tank busters are nearly OHKOing them because of their lack of HP.

They could just use their DPS stance and let the tanks geared for tanking handle it, but I guess they want to hog the glory or something.

I meant the reason why the devs didn't lock older accessories, not the reason for job-locking in general.

Shhh... It won't be until like 4.2 or so when substats from tank accessories outweigh the bonus from i270 STR accessories so stop letting SE know about it :(

The official reason they gave for locking accessories to jobs was not to confuse new players that might put strength on Bard or something but if they are going to base tank dps off strength then we should be able to equip them as well.

lol if THAT was the reason then they actually should job-lock the old accessories, not the new ones. it's new players with old gear who may get confused, not people who played until they reached lvl 60 and suddenly realize they used the wrong accessories the whole time... o.ô;
even if such people exist - and we know they do - why directing them into the correct accessories at lvl 60 and not at lvl 1?

Actually it's the most optimal way to secure max contribution with Hunts. Since strangely enough it's actually based off of the amount of aggro you generate rather than how much damage you do.

Just saw a tank wearing 270 accessories for STR in Susano EX... People should stop with their sh** of everything must dps and just do their job, I don't recount how many healer just let us die in Susano EX and Lakshmi EX for the sake of their poor dps

I just find it confusing as a new player, that if you want to homogenize the accesories, then shouldn't even the lowest level combat accessories ( with no effect like exp bonus and stuff ) that give the attributes be locked behind roles as well ? What if - like I said - a healer wants to wear a VIT accessories to have more HP to survive mobs in dungeons JUST IN CASE; but a healer should wear MIND accessories right - to raise their damage and their healing potency.

Can meld VIT materia in it.

If they don't lock old ones, or simply put both VIT and STR on fending accesories, tanks are gonna stick with i270 slaying accesories for the entire expansion.
I'm thinking it's a grace period, so people don't need to trash their current gear right when going into a new expansion.. but they should fix this issue at the latest when omega savage releases.

Every hit point beyond that which you need to survive is WASTED hit points. It's not at all surprising that once tanks have the survivability aspect covered, they'd do what they can to improve their DPS.

Tanks you see equipping STR and then dying are simply bad at it, not doing the wrong thing. A tank should only equip enough VIT to stay alive, and then equip STR beyond that point.

It's frankly bizarre that SE chose to revert to the STR = DPS, VIT = HP formula. What they SHOULD have done is make tank DPS dependent on VIT, and remove STR from the equation entirely - but failing that, the STR and VIT both give dps formula was decent enough.

Well simply because tank aren't dps, they're tank, that's why vit = vit and str = dps. That's not weird and not hard to understand.
Are they going to wear 270 accessories still when the ilvl will be 400+ at the end of stormblood? Seriously this is stupid. Like I said people take the dps too seriously. Just go play a dps job if you wanna dps as tank/heal

Except STR helps them do their job even better, which is hold aggro. Besides some VIT just gives a little extra wiggle room. If a tank isn't using their cooldowns properly they'll die either way.

With people using diversion I don't see why tank would have agro issue. They must be really bad if they do.

You are making the assumption that just because that SAM hasn't been running Diversion due to a lack of need to run Diversion before they won't slot it after the need arises.

I'm not usually running Diversion either because I rarely need it, instead I try to bring some additional utility for the group. If threat becomes an issue I'll readily slot Diversion though.
Just because someone rips aggro once it's not the end of the world, it only becomes an issue when they refuse to manage their aggro after it becomes necessary.

When I slot diversion it means that I do not have faith in the tanks ability to manage the amount of enmity they are suppose to be maintaining. I don't have a problem with it, had to do it last night in Lakshmi EX with a main tank and off tank. I try and run extra utility, especially as a Sam. I will slot diversion, not because I want to but because the tank(s) are forcing my hand to.

Pretty sure you of all people have no right to be talking shit about what Tanks do. Seeing as you don't even have a single Tank job above level 32. Which means you've never even Tanked the later parts of ARR, the entirety of HW, or any of the new Stormblood content. So you're just one of those people who thinks they're somehow an expert on the role even though they've got ZERO high level dungeon tanking experience.

Nope.

Also, all the V1.0 gear is still in the game, though downgraded visually. The only difference between the V1.0 and V2.0 gear is that the V1.0 gear is not class locked.

The V3.0 gear narrows things down, so most tank gear is job locked from DPS gear, and most caster gear is locked between healer or caster. Only with V4.0 do accessories become job locked.

You'll also note that there hasn't been any aetherial (pink) gear since about level 44. The pink gear had random secondary bonuses, while the green gear all have the same bonuses. When you tap "recommended gear" it does not know if pink or green gear is better because recommended only looks at the ilevel, not the secondaries.

Hence if you have two accessories of the same ilevel with different secondaries, recommended gear will not favor one over the other.

Oh boy... Lets see now... Full 270 slaying gives tanks around 200 to 300 dps in total, 2 tanks in raid thats 400 to 600 increase in raid dps or more, which is not a small amount, on a trade off for around 9K HP per tank. Which is something that many tanks will do, because not only does it make EVERYTHING faster and if you CD properly, you won't die.

And on the point of people taking dps too seriously.... I mean, sure, if you want to be mediocre or something, sure don't think about it... You are ofcourse entitled to your own opinion, but what you are not entitled is dictating how others play, and since you can critizise them, they can and will do the same for you, its a 2 way street.

On a side note, this whole mess would have been avoided if they either 1. kept the thing in place where str & vit both gave damage or 2. make it so vit gives all the damage or 3. retroactively lock the pre-SB accessories.

Since we have to undress when we fantasia for years now (probably because of gender restricted gear), I assume a system which turns equipped items unavailable isn't that easy to achieve.

Well, but since they got an inventory space increasement resulting in guaranteed free space on launch for everyone they maybe could've put all right side equipped regardless of class in armoury.

Actually, it's not the tank's fault. Samurai and Red Mage generate massive amounts of aggro and due to the changes to VIT, tanks cannot easily hold aggro anymore. So if you're not using Diversion/Elusive, it's you who is messing up not the tank.

In high ilvl content Diversion and/or LD are set, no discussion needed.
They are essentially the most important dps role based skills in every serious content.

By using hate reducing actions you are allowing the tanks to do more DPS. Therefore, by not using hate reducing actions you are hindering the group and thus playing incorrectly.

Because that would mess-up existing character's glamour using such accessories. in ARR and HW, It's common to use accessories for glamour regardless of their stats. If they were suddenly class restricted, player would suddenly be unable to use the one they have collected for glamour, or to update their same existing glamour when upgrading their gears.

I love when people bring up the argument of "str tanks have less hp they're so squishy!". A good tank that mitigates and does damage beats a tank that's in vit that doesn't mitigate or pull their weight. As a drk MT you can eat every Susano EX mid buster at the start with TBN and a CD and have your CDs up for the tank swap and I've mitigated more damage while dishing it out at the same time.

This discussion has been beaten with the ugly stick so much it's irrelevant at this point, the good tanks will adapt over the bad ones.

Also HP and mitigation are completely different and are not the same so stop comparing them as one single entity.
