PAX EAST: I was the person that asked the "Challenging content" question at the end.

A few things..

I've been a hardcore gamer (and comic reader) all my life. Yet never had i ever attended any kind of game con, or any such event. (Though I always wanted to go to E3 because that seems to be where the good stuff happens) I LIVE in Boston, and literally not far from the convention center where PAX is held. I always wanted to go, but never paid attention to the dates, and by the time I would find out about it, it was always sold out. I never made much effort to find the after market tickets, and just said to myself, I'll get to it one day.

For some reason I always remember PAX being here during warm weather. And did not even think it would be in winter. 1 1/2 weeks before PAX a facebook friend announced he was selling some tickets. I told him I would buy a Sat pass. I really wanted to attend the SE FFXIV panel, especially because of the Expansion coming out. I've played this game since 1.0, and have never gotten to meet or see the team in person. Always via streaming. Anyways, I still did not pay attention to the date of PAX, thinking, it must be this spring, and made not rush to meet up with my Facebook friend to get the ticket. Then he sends me a message Sat Morning "I'll meet you outside with the pass". Me: "OMG, that's TODAY!!???" Rush to get the pass. Line up. My buddy who does not play FFXIV but loves PAX comes to the panel with me. As he is interested in the game.

Now... I will say... I hate, Hate, HATE public speaking. I'm terrified of it! I listened to the questions being asked hoping someone would ask the question i wanted to hear. But no one did. I was a bit frustrated, because while people are free to ask whatever it is they want, I felt a live Q&A could have used a bit more juicy questions. But hey.... everyone has different interests. My good buddy, kept telling me to raise my hand. I kept refusing. He then starts telling me... well, you know what? You cannot complain if you're not willing to stand up and ask the question you want to hear.

I practice in my head over and over what I will say, how I will say it, and how to keep it short but convey all I wanted. I knew there was a translator, and I know sometimes they paraphrase long questions. I don't remember if I was the final question, or if I was the 2nd to final. But I braved up, and raised my hand. My buddy began frantically waving his arms trying to get the guy with the mics attention and pointing at me. The guy walks by me, thinks for a second, and turns and hands me the mic. All that mental prep work went out the window, and I was SO nervous. My voice cracked the second I spoke, and I stuttered. I tried to ask the question the way I practiced as best could, yet it still all went out the window. I was scared, nervous, hand shaking. I HATE talking in front of a crowd. Even giving class presentations in college.

Anyways, I'm writing this post because there seemed to be confusion over what I was actually asking. I never thought "I" would attend a game con, let alone get to ask Yoshi P a direct question on my very FIRST time attending. Unfortunately from the answer it sounded like he answered something I was not asking. Maybe I stumbled too much in asking. Maybe I did not make it clear enough. Maybe the translator did not understand me well, and translated it differently than I intended.

When I asked about "More challenging content" I was NOT speaking of "difficulty". Meaning I was not asking for something "more challenging" than the hardest raid in the game. I personally was 100% fine with the difficulty of The Coils of Bahamut!!. I was not among the group of players that were asking for something more challenging than that.

My biggest gripe (as well as most raiders that I knew) was that there was only "1" endgame level raid event at any given time. High lvl endgame in a MMO should be more than just ONE thing. It is bound to get boring if that is the case.

My FC is called RAGE and we are on Excalibur. Back before heavensward our FC was large. And we had 7 different Raid groups clearing Coil. We also had many many casual players in our FC too. And even would help more casual players set up their own raid groups to help them along if they were interested. (ie: asign 8 compatible casual members into a static and try to guide them from the outside) By the time the 3 Coil came around, many members had begun expressing how the game had become stale. Most were on a day one clear of all turns. So after you went in, spent a few hours doing all 4 turns, you were done for the week. And anyone in the groups that wanted "more" content that was JUST as fun and challenging had nothing to do!!!! Slowly over time, one by one would quit the game, and go play a new MMO. Till eventually our 7 raid groups became 4, then 2, then 1, and then when Heavenwards came out, it was pretty much the same thing, and then our Raid groups completely stopped as many were just gone.

Each time SE added a new event, I would have hopes that there would be a mode in it that produced challenge and fun. Not face roll easy things you can do with no effort. They always add this new fun content for casual but the raiders are kinda left wanting.

I know Yoshi expressed that they would need to DOUBLE the staff to get more raid content out. But I'm not sure that is necessary. Content already exists, where a simple tweak would make it challenging to raiders.

_____________ suggestions on improvements using EXISTING content ____________

1) I think one of FFXIV's greatest problems is that sometimes the devs underestimate the players. For example Pre heavenswards the open world had NO danger what so ever. Yoshi said himself they felt comfortable trying to make Heavensward more openly dangerous. That danger did not last long. As we become overgeared the world has no more danger. So one of the biggest problem is that the Ilvl for content is too often set so low. That when content comes out, so many are already over geared for it. Everything doesn't need extremely low Ilvl. Can't "some" areas in the game have more dangerous enemy in it? Maybe there could be some high end quests that require you to go to this area? Where it's safer to go with a small party?

2) Even Expert Dungeons. All new dungeons don't have half the difficulty Amdapor Keep had when we first gained access to it. I don't think this is due to mob placement, or mechanics, I think it's due to gear. When ARR first came out, things were challenging and fun. We were not over geared and things like Odin, Chimera, Hydra, and even Demon wall were challenging and fun. Mostly due to gear. Most of us simply did not have the gear to faceroll the content. Can't "some" content that is not the top tier raid, be like that again?

3) Hunts - When Hunts were announced I was so excited. I had memories of FFXII and taking on some fun hunts that ranged from easy to very difficult. Between:

I had envisioned something for EVERYONE here. Casual, Mid tier, and Hard tier content for all. But then Hunt came out and it was just a mindless Zerg fest. Even the hardest Monsters did not live long, you didn't have to do menchanics for most of them, and you just all jump on a hate generating job, and go to down, as it's HP melts in seconds.
This did not improve even when Heavensward came out and second set of Hunts were added.

Hunts would have been more enjoyable imo if there was also a tier of them that was simply single party only. Similar to Leve quests. You have a weekly allowance, that, just like Leve, you go get the Hunt request from a NPC. And up to 8 players can go hunt it down. Maybe examine a location while in possession of the quest and the hunt pops. And just like in a Leve, outside people cannot assist you. This could be content that is easily for EVERYONE no matter their style of play.

Casuals - Rank 1, Rank 2, Rank B
Midcore- Rank B, Rank A
Hardcore - Rank A Rank S

There are some really awesome Hunt mob models, and you don't get to ENJOY them. I guess you could go back to irrelevant content "now" that rarely anyone does now, but that was not my point. With a system like the tweak i suggested, it could stay relevant content forever. Just keep the loot pool relevant. Maybe more rare drops come form the higher tier difficulty.

4) Palace of the Dead- Deep Dungeon - I think this was a good start. Floor 1-100 casual friendly. Floors 100-200 Mid tier friendly. But You can still add maybe a "hard" mode. You have content here, that seemingly all you have to do is turn on a mode that had high lvl monsters. (Just require jobs roles for solo que.) This could be more endgame content. Even if everything was identical and only the monsters were set to have higher lvl, more def, more attack. The content is there. Just change some options require a higher i lvl to win, increase the ilvl of the rewards, and bam, hardcore content. Once again, everyone is happy.

5) Treasure Maps - Again.... there could be "some" map tiers that have extremely hard monsters. There are so many map tiers 1-8. Why can't there be content here for casual, midcore, and hardcore? Again, all you have to do is have a higher tier map that has a higher leveled monsters that require higher Ilvl to take on. Drops can be rare mats, or appropriate Ilvl gear.

6) Aquapolis - Again (you see the pattern here), The highest tier most difficult treasure map could open the path to "Aquapolis Extreme". Literally nothing in the mobs here has to change. You don't have to redesign the level layout. You don't have to spend a lot of time on extra development here. Release the same as normal Aquapolis, but set the monsters to be stronger. You don't have to tweak their attack patterns or moves. Same exact monster that is lvl 55 could be lvl 65 or 70 in Extreme mode. Needs 8 party members to take on. Whatever additions you add to regular Aquapolis would carry over to Extreme Aquapolis. Just harder enemies.

7)Extreme Dungeons - I know you spend a lot of time taking a normal dungeon, and changing the graphics, the layout, the monsters and such when you create the Hard mode. But you could ad an Extreme mode at the same time, and change "nothing" but the strength of the monsters and the DPS checks. Same layout, same graphics, same enemies, same patterns Just maybe increase the amount of Tomes you get. Hardcore players could cap their tomes a bit faster in the week. While getting a fun challenge. People could aim for this mode if they want to farm a relic faster or something. You could add rare mats to the chests for crafting endgame gear. So many possibilities. And once again, you have catered to more people at once.

8) Diadem Extreme - In the original Diadem. You had Normal mode, and Hard mode. Literally nothing was different between the two except the enemies were set to a higher rank in Hard mode. Same map. Same monsters. Just different rank. And hard mode has an increased drop rate for higher tier chest for the higher Ilvl gear. You could do the same exact thing again. Make Extreme mode "single party" battles. (Except for the Emergency mission where you team up)

Diadem Fury Hard
Diadem Fury Extreme

The biggest difference being the Rank of the monsters within.

Casual players still get to have fun. Casual players still get a shot at the highest possible i lvl items at a lower drop rate. At the top at Extreme, you could have a much higher chance of getting the more powerful high Ilvl gear with the best stats. Make Emergency Missions pop more often.

Look at the new Diadem. You have 2 different modes available you. Fury and Matron. Everything in the both modes is the same!!! Surely this difference did not require you to double the staff? Fury is simply set to clear fates to increase progress. Matron is gather items to increase progress. So here you have the same content used for different things. Normal, Hard and Extreme could be the same.

I had a recent fun experience in Diadem Fury. We were the only party who cleared the zone, 3 members left after we were done. And the rest of us tried taking on the boss fate with the giant Mastodon with the AoE paralyze, and extreme knock back. It was a FUN fight. And was challenging for a lower man group who were unprepared for the monster. I thought to myself, WHAT IF, there was an extreme mode, and the objectives popped Boss monsters that were tough like that Matsadon we tried to low man? What if in this mode you could not have outside assistance for the battles? Another objective popped 3 Westeryly Sanwe on us. Who all 3 spammed a hard hitting AoE and then hit each party member with an individual water ball. That was a tough fun fight. More of that please.

9) All the Extreme mode I mentioned do not have to be more difficulty to End game raid. They could all be similar in difficulty. This would keep raiders busy for the week if they wanted. Take the extreme versions out of Duty Finder if you have to. Put them in Raid Finder.

10) All endgame gear doesn't have to come from a single content. You currently have:

All Weapons
All Equipment
All Accessories
All Tome Gear Upgrade items

all coming from the SAME content. It doesn't have to be this way! Equipment could come from one content like Omega. Weapons could come from something like Aquapolis Extreme. Accessories could come from Palace of the Dead Extreme. Time gear upgrades could come from Extreme Dungeon currency or something. I don't know... just throwing ideas out there. Endgame should not be a single event.

But my suggestion takes nothing away from casuals, nothing away from midcores, and adds to hardcore. And I currently don't see a logical objections to using existing content and adding Hard and extreme modes TO that same content that way All players are catered to.

Quick disclaimer. I was hardcore in ARR. I did coil, yet I did and enjoyed casual content too. In Heavenward I took a huge step back from hardcore, and became more casual. After all my friends quit the game from boredom, i just kinda dialed it back, took it easy and enjoyed the game, and waited to see what SE would do to breath new life in it. I even took a break from the game all together. I never did build a Alexander static. So I did not do much of that content at all. I came back recently to prepare my account for the expansion. Take care of loose ends, and things I put off. I'm hoping things change up for StormBlood. I hope it's not just more of the EXACT same. There is so much potential here.

I see one repeated argument. "The playerbase is mostly casual, only 4% beat Alex Savage (or whatever number they just throw out). Why should they be catered to?"
"Go do xyz if you want something to do"

A) A heck of a lot more people cleared coil. Ever think less people cleared Alex now, because lots of raiders have quit the game??? We used to have SEVEN raid statics, literally everyone is gone except 2 of us.

B) They pay a sub just like anyone else. Why "shouldn't" they get content too? I highly doubt 98% of the player base is doing ALL casual content to the max anyway. But the content still exists.

C) The rebuttal for someone who wants more of something is NOT to demand they go do something completely UNRELATED!!!!
- If a group of players want PVP expansion, and say it needs more content. The reply to them is not "Go level your Chocobo". What does that have to do with PVP?
- If someone wants SE to expand the housing for more decorating fun, the reply to them is not "Go make more relic weapons"
- If groups of players want more endgame content, the reply to them is not to demand they "go do content that is nowhere near the lvl of play of the current content they are doing" ie: "You have nothing to do after clearing 4 turns on Tues? Now go farm Aquapolis or go make a relic weapon". That's irrelevant to what they are asking for.

How can you expect more Raiders to exist if the Raid content in the game is only 1 thing and unchanging after 4 years? How does additional Raid content take away from Casual players? When a casual player asks for Swimming logs, I don't poo poo on their parade and act like they have no right to ask for that. Endgame raid doesn't "have" to be exclusive content like the original Coil was. I LIKE that there is a Normal mode for the raid, so casuals can experience the story, and fun of that content and get the same gear model but with lower stats. I'm fine with that. The game should HAVE different tiers in difficulty to the same content. And each tier doesn't always need to be completely reworked and overhauled. Just change stats and settings. I don't care that only like 12% cleared endgame or whatever. Those 12% pay a sub and support the game just like everyone else.

I'm casual AND Hardcore. And in StormBlood I hope to be more hardcore again. And I hope my friends will come back to the game (some are planning on giving it a try again, but won't stick around if it's the same thing once again). I like BOTH kinds of content.

Hope to go back and do Alex for fun, some missing gear, and the mounts.

But my voice is just as important as anyone else. Which is why I was a bit annoyed seeing charges of "elitism" in response to my question. Wanting challenging and rewarding content is not elitism. I am not bent out of shape because a 280 ilvl weapon exists in Diadem. i do not care that when it's close to the new raid being dropped, the old gear is made easier to get so the gap in gear between casual and raiders remains small. I don't care that people want more content that I'm not that interested in. I'm not a huge PVP player, but who am I to stand in the way of people who want more PVP options?

Having more raid options does NOT force casual players to do things they do not want to do.

In closing. I was WELL aware that Yoshi said they wanted to to add content that unlocks after players clear the hardest content. So those that want more challenge can have it, but not to come crying if it's too hard. I was aware of this before I even went to Pax. That was not the question I was or wanted to ask. I wanted more raid content that coexists beside the main raid.

And even though I dialed raiding back for Heavenward, this does not change what I was talking about or asking for. I wanted to ask about something that was about MORE than just me!

I wanted to find Yoshi on the floor around the SE booth, so I could elaborate on what I meant. Because there was obvious miscommunication. But i never saw him. And I was at Pax for just that one day. I didn't even get to try for the T shirt. The line was 3-4 hours long. And I didn't want to spend my entire time in that line for my first event.

I know this post is long as hell. But based on comments I saw about my question It just seemed obvious I did not make my question clear enough. I really hope this clarification makes it to Yoshi's ears. I was really grateful I got to ask the lead man, of my favorite MMO a direct question for the first time.

So you want WoW basically? That's what it sounds like to me.

More power to you in your pursuits for a more diverse end game( I honestly liked the token/multi raid system with a conplete gear set coming from 4-5 raids) but don't they have a small team developing content for this game?

I mean unless they get/got more people, I feel they'd have to make cuts to other things in game, and I'd rather things be left as is if that's the case.

Though I then worry that I would burn out like I did in WoW and just look for a different game(like how I came here).

Making it more difficult led to Gordias which killed Heavensward raiding.

Might have been better to ask "can we get additional, varying levels of difficulty to all of the content?"

But people have already asked for a third level, like Savage Extreme, and I believe dev team has already said no, it will remain normal and savage.

Actually, I think it's more they took it as an extreme. Asking for more challenging content doesn't mean Gordias and it's absurd DPS checks. You could take dungeons and scale them up slightly so we aren't widely over geared. As for a third difficulty, they said the opposite and have specifically mentioned looking at developing an Extreme Savage. That being said, they stressed it wouldn't be for anything except a title and maybe a mount. No gear as it's meant to be a challenge.

There should be challenging content for high-end raiders but they cannot forget about the people who don't want to do that.

The problem is is that they are making only one type of content. That is why there is always people who are upset about it.

They really should look at the way WoW does the Mythic+ dungeons/raids; the people who don't want to high-end raid can just do the easy version and the high-end raiders can work up to the higher tiers of difficulties.

No not at all. Because WOW is not the only mmo or online rpg with multiple tiers of the same exact content, so people of various skill levels get enjoyment out of it.
SE's problem is that they often want to "change" the other tier to make it more different than the lower tier. That's what they did with Hard dungeons. Before we had them, they said it was easy to make a hard mode, but that the the idea sounded boring to them. That they would rather spend the time and resources changing everything about the dungeon to make it feel like a new experience.My suggestion was that, if they do not have the manpower to built new content from the ground up, use existing content. I see no reason why a small team That is capable of creating content, then using the same exact content and just changing the settings (ie: instead of a Rank II monster it will be a Rank V) and small parameters. How many people would it take raise the monster levels on something that already exists? It's a serious question btw. The only reason Hard Dungeons take so long to make is because they change SO much in them. They already said it would have been easy to just make the same dungeon with hard mode, but that they "wanted" to do more. If they don't have the manpower I'm sure many would be "fine" with Hard and Extreme being nearly identical except for stat tweaks on the monsters, and higher tomes or whatever.

I want to stress, nowhere did I suggest they forget about casuals. I like Casual content. I don't want FFXI part 2. I don't want the game to feel like a "Job". Extreme tiers of existing content would just be an option for the raiders, where else they have none. It would still not be a majority of the game. Right now it feels like it's 98% casual, and 2% Raider. That slant is too much. No wonder the raiders do not stay. Even if the game was 80% Casual, and 20% Raider Casual would still not be forgotten. Nor should they be. My suggestion is use existing content to please raiders.

If they created Diadem Normal and Diadem Hard mode previously, having a Diadem Extreme mode would take nothing away from anyone. Hell enable the options, tweak it later when you have the time for all I care. lol

A bit away from the point of your topic, nice work taking the step and actually doing your best to ask the question you wanted regardless. Despite how frustrating it might seem looking back, no-one can begrudge you for stepping out of your comfort zone and I hope you can at least be happy for achieving that much.

It's really annoying how they think we want something harder than savage when we ask for more challenge. What we want is extreme version of dungeons, hunts for 4-8 people parties, extreme treasure maps.
We want what they did to diadem, what they do to extreme primals (make extreme dungeons), and things like that for people that hate making raid groups for savage but who can clear sohr khai half asleep

First and foremost, stand proud. You stood, and asked your question.

I used to be on Excalibur. I was there for a long time and I also watched people leave one by one. If not for some friends starting on Faerie, I also would have quit around HW launch. Sadly those friends are not far from leaving this game over the same exact issues. Many of them already have. It makes me very sad to see that happening over and over.

The itemization in this game and the combat dynamics have become very counter to expecting people to learn how to play at a higher level. I'm sorry, but I don't think that showing up and running a dungeon once per day that is 50 ilvl below you should guarantee some of the best gear that the game has to offer. Tomestones are fine, but they should be consolation gear, not BiS. I know I am not making any friends with that statement, but it is how I feel. I also feel that people who want to play casually and only do easy things should be able to progress too, just not be guaranteed to get BiS gear.

There should be varying levels of difficulty that affect your chances of getting the best gear. Very Easy through Very Difficult, with VD giving you the best shot at getting it. It gives people a reason to grow and challenge themselves.

Also, slow down the rockets attached to our ilvl. Keep making more content but don't trivialize everything that came before it when you make new stuff. It's ok if you can't make a 24 man raid, an 8 man raid set, 3 EX primals and 3 new EX dungeons every 3 months. It really is. Design your content and progression in ways that keep them challenging and rewarding for a longer period of time.

Help yourself SE, the lack of content, lack of reasons for people to do things, for them to grow, for people to stay, are problems they created. They can fix it.

I want them to make it better. Very much so.

I know I am naive in this last sentiment, I know I am, but I still have it.

I will always hold out hope that maybe, if they can find a way to appease people who want easy content and people who want other levels of content too at the same time, maybe some of them will come back and we can have fun together again. I know it is silly, but I will always feel that way.

I would like to see more bosses per raid. I feel like it should be instead of 4 bosses it should be around 12 bosses per raid tier.

you are also talking about something very subjective. I think Yoshida response was dead on imo... no one knows what they really want, and when they get it they complain.

when you suggest stuff, you need to think of the "LONG TERM" not just the "right now."
try being a fresh 60 RIGHT NOW, needing to do farm lore/scripts as that fresh 60 right now.

It isn't that fun, as people out pace you, and have ran it too much and expect more then you can do.
I've played this game on and off since 1.0 and had top get a new account because of personal issues. I bought this game 5 times. 1.0 CE collectors edition, 2 times @ 2.0 launch because of a bug.
a third time because of needing a new psn ID, and a 4th for ps4 last year.

I restarted a lot trying to find a decent server, and needing to play catch up. Also had long breaks due to personal issues.

Now im back in full force lvl 60 drk for a second or 3rd time (i lost count) and having issues gearing up. No one is really running much stuff, so even as a tank q's are not that great. I have a ton to catch up on such as getting all the ARR extremes killed, getting warring triad killed, and alexander normal.

it can be overwhelming if your new to this type of system, which i am. :/ I'm used to pre WoW ff11 where you get max level and find an endgame LS and run Dynamis, run sky ect. not run content farm tomes, to buy a piece of gear 2-4 weeks at a time.

I'm all for adding more content for the more skilled, but make sure to go back and help others through older content. Help others catch up., help explain this tome gear up system to people not used to it. Don't keep asking for content, just for you and your group, as it effects people like me, who end up playing catch up and get overwhelmed.

I agree but I disagree a bit since weeping city did work (it's a very hard raid with the ilevel as it was at first). Same with dun caith, giving us harder content is fun. SE has money issues, and can't spend money willy nilly

I don't buy this argument. I don't buy it at all.

I understand that they don't have the resources of WoW. They don't have to unless they are trying to emulate how quickly things get replaced in WoW. IMO, that is their problem. If they cannot make as much content as WoW does to match how vertical their progression is, then don't do it.

Make it so that the content you make, stays a challenge and fun for longer periods of time. If you do that, then you do not need to make as much content. At times, I kinda feel bad for the people that work on this game so much to see the things that they worked so hard on to become a boring joke to many people to the point that we don't want to do it anymore.

Maybe you make the even patches a little bigger and the odd ones a little smaller so that people don't get so burnt out. I don't understand why it has to be that the new gear blows all the old gear out of the water. That invalidates all the content that was created to make it and makes all that content super boring to repeat. If you are limited in the amount of content you can create, then make it last longer in a meaningful way.

I am NOT saying that we should not grow more powerful over time, we should, and that chase for better stuff is part of the fun. The chase is one of the things missing from that progression outside of savage. Savage is mostly just memorizing a dance routine and executing it. There is no variation in combat content, there is nothing random about it. That is part of why it gets so boring so fast, just like how they distribute content. It is 100% predicable, just about 100% of the time.

"X" seconds into a fight, or at "Y"% of health, the boss will use ability "Z". The first time, the 10th time, the nth time. There is no challenge in that, it gets to the point where you do not even have to consider anything at all, it is boring. Boring is not fun. There is no excitement in boring.

"hard" "challenge" "easy" "savage" are all subjective terms that differ person to person. I found most content easy in ff14, the only thing that made it hard was the players who don't work as a team, or playing a particular job at full capacity. Which is again subjective.

Having been in a static that went through the issue of "got our weekly clears, time to log off for a week", I agree with your perspective and wish Yoshi had understood the question better. I don't want to make existing content harder necessarily - but I'd love more difficult content in addition to what we get already. Dungeons would be a great place to start - keep the difficulty we have now while adding another level as well.

since pople don't get what I'm saying here it is:

i do not mind them adding more content, I do not mind if the content has 4 tiers of difficulty.

what i a, talking about is the community reaction to said content. Which is never good. People complain it is still too easy, while others complain it is too hard.

The people screwed over are the people who show up late to said content, in which everyone moved on from.

The NA community is very cut throat when it comes to content, that if you don't run it how they expect.. you do not have a good experience. I'm late to a lot of content due to just getting back 3 mnths ago after an 8 mnth break due to personal issiues. I'm in the process of farming lore for aether oil, and farming scrip for scripture gear. I got just 1 piece of scripture gear.

At present doing the latest experts isn't a very good idea as I can't handle more then 1 pull at a time ( tried and i just saw my hp drop fast with CD)

If people went back and was more understanding of new/fresh 60 players no one would have much issue. Playing catch up in the NA community isn't fun.

SSE needs to make sure all content is open to players, not just 1 and done. So no matter when you start, you are able to do said content.

Everyone doesn't have to enjoy raids. Not a requirement, I don't think anyone said that it was a requirement. What I think that is being asked for, is to have content other than the latest savage to have some difficulty to it. They could make the same thing have more variety of difficulty. An example:

Going to play with the Nidhogg fight, with the following things:
Weapon = same ilvl as current tomestone ilvl +5
Weapon upgrade makes it tomestone+10 to match the powered up tomestone weapon
bird is the Nidhogg bird
crafting material would be for making a Nidhogg glowy or for furniture or whatever
VE=Very Easy, E=Easy, N=Normal, D=(Difficult and VD=Very Difficult

• Nidhogg VE (ilvl-10) - 0% weapon, 0% upgrade, 0% bird, 0% material
• Nidhogg E (ilvl-5) - 25% weapon, 0% upgrade, 0% bird, 0% material
• Nihogg N (ilvl) - 50% weapon, 1% upgrade, 0.5% bird, 0% material
• Nidhogg D (ilvl+5) - 75% weapon, 5% upgrade, 1% bird, 0% material
• Nidhogg VD (ilvl+10) - 100% weapon, 10% upgrade, 5% bird, 5% material

For the same fight, the ilvl+10 has all the moves of the current EX, and the I-10 has the current moves of the Normal mode. They add and remove parts of the fight mechanics and lower and raise stats based on the difficulty.

It did not require much more dev time since all the same assets are used for all 5 difficulties.

Part of your challenge to catch up in ilvl is the extreme verticality of gearing in this game. We ended with Gubal library gear at i148, Dun Scaith is i235. That is 87 levels to make up. That is a lot.

Compare that to the end of ARR, the last dungeon rewarded i47 gear, and WoD required i90. It only needed 43 levels to make it.

You are also limited by the limited number of options you have to make ground up. They are factors of how they design and deliver content. That is something I would like to see them change, slow down how fast we progress through gear. I still want gear progression, just not so fast, it does harm new players in their ability to catch up.

An answer to that can go many different ways. I will only look at one part of it, someone could write a book on that subject. A really big book.

Part of that goes back to how they handle progression in this game. They do not release a lot of content in each patch. That is ok. Problem is that they invalidate so much content so quickly. Content does not need to stay relevant for years and years and years like in XI. But longer than 3-6 months, or less, could help with that.

That is part of progression. It is totally ok.

Here is the problem, when your content starts at very easy, where it goes next is not particularly good, especially when every encounter is highly scripted and unchanging. It goes to boring, dull, tedious, a chore, tiring, I could go on, I hope you see where I am going with this.

Back to the other part of what you said about the community. They keep funneling us back into old content for the relic and for tomestones as examples. They are requiring that we go back and do content again, that is just not fun. It isn't, there is no excitement in going back and doing ARF for 160 runs to get one step of that item completed. It is a chore and time consuming as it is used to give people something to do. There is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that the fun is missing.

This is supposed to be a form of entertainment, it does not do a very good job of that at times due to how they distribute that entertainment. They need to address that.

Part of the toxicity between the players comes from the lack of enjoyable content that lasts and has multiple uses. A lot of content in this game is one and done for the excitement part, after that it is just going through the motions with predictable mechanics and results. There isn't anything to get excited about.

I do go back and help people with things. I have put this in other places. One of my favorite things in this game is actually something with my FC. It is "movie night". Where we take a new player who has reached the end of ARR through the 2 level 50 MSQ dungeons. Wait for it.

We do it min ilvl, which syncs us to level 42. No gigantic pulls, no faceroll start to finish. We actually have to do mechanics and not mess up too much or we will wipe. That is fun.

Failure is fun. Failure is what makes success taste so good when you finally get it.

Look at all of this in another light please.

I like harder content. Due to how they create and distribute that content, there is not much for me to do. I also like glamours (the relic is a glamour to me), mounts and minions.

How do you obtain those items, especially the relic?

Go back and grind old content, a lot. Remember earlier, the content starts at very easy and goes to boring and tedious. For the relic, you have to go and do a lot of tedious work. It is not fun. For things that are not fun, people want to get them over with and out of the way so they can go have fun (kinda like work), when you mix those people with people who, due to being new, lesser geared or skilled, problems ensue. The person working on a relic has spent the last 4 hours running ARF with friends who are as well geared as they are and achieved 20% of their goal. They spend the next 4 hours in DF, we will assume instant pops, and in the same amount of time, they only achieve another 5%.

Repeat this over and over, on content that is not fun. You will see the attitudes of many people rapidly make their way into the toilet.

I think that for a lot of what you mention, the lack of interesting content is part of the problems you are mentioning.

Again, I am going to say that part of the problem is that the content they give us is super boring super fast due to how overgeared we are in reference to the content. It is not fun. It makes the content tired and boring on delivery. That is not a good way to design and deliver content.

Again, the content is not much fun to run over and over. I have stopped running EX content during HW. I refuse to run that content anymore due to boredom with it. And the fact that the current level of gear is worthless in relation to the content level they provided. All the better gear does is to make the currently boring content even more boring. I know I am jaded and apathetic, so I avoid the content that brings that out in me. No, it is not the most efficient use of my time in making more relics and gearing more jobs, but that is how I deal with it.

I am going to state this again, the rapid acceleration of gear is partly to blame for this. Coming in at 60, you are about 120 levels below current players. That is far too much of a jump from the start to the end of an expansion. I think that is a mistake that SE made.

I understand what you are saying. I am not going to say that the community is full of angels. It isn't. Some people are nice and some people, quite frankly, suck.

When the developers of this game, give us boring, mundane content, more than challenging content, you will see more people who want it to be over as quickly as possible so they can do something else they find fun.

By challenging content, that does not have to mean savage difficulty, it could be as simple as changing how bosses work. Instead of it always being ability "X" at checkpoint "Y", why not it picks a random ability and uses it?

I have an issue with how the game is being developed. I do not have issues with undergeared or new players. It is not their fault that the game is in the state that it is currently in.

They said they didn't want to do 3 raid difficulties because they lacked staff, I imagine if they can't do 3 raid tiers they can't do 2 difficulties per dungeon either without increasing the staff dedicated to tuning dungeons, and also increase the QA staff.

If we had Xelphatol (extreme) it wouldn't be just increasing enemy damage and HP, they also have to add new attacks and properly test everything over and over.

No, it wasn't. The person never mentioned Savage, the dev team simply presumed they meant Creator because others have criticised this tier as too easy. There is a stark difference between asking for what is essentially midcore level content and the soul crusher that was Gordias. Content outside Extremes and Savage are objectively made significantly easier-- to the point of being a faceroll. You needs not even know how to properly play your job to clear dungeons. We see it all the time when tanks won't use any cooldowns, Monks pull 500 DPS and Ninjas never touch their mudras. Unfortunately, these types of players have no incentive to improve since the games has yet to hinder their progression. I always come back to Xelphatol yet it remains a perfect example. Here we have a dungeon that requires gear released back when Heavenward launched. Why would new players think to upgrade their gear when the requirements are that low? Unless the bottom tier is pushed up, we're not going to diminish the skill gap amongst players.

Can I get an abridged version of those first posts?

"Why" would they need to add new attacks or new attack patterns? Did Diadem Normal and Diadem Hard have new attacks for the same mobs when the only thing that changed was the mob rank? The ONLY difference between Diadem Normal and Diadem Hard was Mob ranks and Chest drop rates!!! Hard mode had higher chance of gold chests.

There isn't even a real difference in the new Diadem between Matron and Fury except for the method of progress. It's the same exact map, same exact mobs.

I find the whole notion of 5 tiers of raid difficulty appalling. It ruined any desire to raid in WoW. Content that gets rehashed "but harder!" and then after you beat it you're expected to "do it again but even harder!" and then "do it yet again! Even harder than before!" is friggin stupid. It's an excuse to reuse the same content multiple times calling it additional content when it is anything but. Just because its "harder" and gives higher ilvl gear doesn't make it new content. It's an insult to me as a consumer and I hope SE never decides to listen suggestions of the sort. FFXIV doesn't need that. You want "challenging" "five-difficulty" "content"? Go play WoW or some other game that offers such "content". It was a terrible design decision for WoW (imo) and I'd be truly heartbroken if they ever implemented it here.

Savage difficulty should be the "challenging content". There doesn't need to be 5 different difficulties. Regular difficulty for the story and people not looking for a "challenge" and Savage for those who are. That's more than enough. Can SE adjust the difficulty of Savage to make it more challenging? Sure. Ask them for that. But for the love of Hydalen please don't ask them to turn FFXIV into a Raid or Die model.

Raiding is niche content as far as I'm concerned, and resources are better devoted elsewhere than for rehashes of existing raids and giving multiple ilvl jumps between them just to incentivize people to actually do it. Such resources would be far better spent adding more story, more quality of life features, more jobs, more quests, more music, more dungeons, more of anything and everything BUT raids, in my opinion.

Raiding has its place. It's a small place, but it has it. It doesn't get neglected by any measure. It gets exactly the amount of focus it deserves from my perspective. I'm hoping that doesn't change.

If you don't want to do it then that's fine, but don't take it away from people that would like it.

AS I mentioned in some other topics, if people didn't get a ticket or didn't stand up and asked a question, these people can't complain about how bad/good/casual some of these questions might have been or sounded like. Even if your question was not answered the way you wanted, due to maybe misunderstandings of the translator or misinterpretation of the question from Yoshi itself, I still think you did a good job. Public speaking isn't easy, and if you're not used to that, you can repeat that question thousand times in your head or even write it down, at the end you'll might end up stuttering or feel like you've totally screwed it up. Doesn't mean others felt that way. After all I found personally that the way the question has been answered, was good enough for me, again maybe it wasn't what you wanted, but I know plenty of people asked for more difficult/challenging content and it's refreshing too hear that in the near future something like that might be planned.

The fact that it would be an alternative way to get a level appropriate weapon or whatever makes it a different tier? The only differences between the levels in my example is the drops and their drop rates. The item level of the weapon in my example never changed. Only that at face roll easy, you have 0% chance to get it, that version is meant for story clear. The harder level is to give you better chances at the drops. That's it. Not sure how that changes the tier.

So, the idea is for the game to only offer a single duty that has challenge and the rest should be 500 DPS clear content? You do know that only offering one piece of content with any challenge whatsoever every six months is not enough to keep people's interest and their sub, right?

Yes, current clear date is like 10% or something like that. Guess what? A lot more than 10% of the population has cleared at least part of the current savage. I know a lot of people in that boat. I also know that many of them would unsub without something to do. They aren't raiders by any stretch of the imagination. They are good players bored to tears by everything the game has to offer outside of savage after about 1 week.

I am down with more story. I actually like the story and quest stuff too. I have 100% of the orchestrion scrolls, I am #1 on my server for mounts and minions. I have Fenrir and the Archon Chair. All the Garo stuff. I never asked for more raids, neither did the OP.

The request was for other types of content that has a challenge mode to it, its harder but gives better chances at rewards. That's it. Maybe it is a dungeon that has a minion in it, doing the harder version just gives you a better chance at the reward.

I think it's kind of funny that this person is trying to tell the person who asked the question, and was the one who stated it was misunderstood, that Yoshi P understood the question. I've personally never thought raiding was Niche content. Raiding is pretty much the endgame, and all the gearing up we do is to raid. Sure, most of us will never raid, and enjoy the gear making everything easy/easier, but raiding is hardly niche, compared to the Triple Triad community, or the chocobo racing community, or even the pvp community. And you know what? All of these things need more content. Raids included.

The reason why I don't raid is because our FC members want to do it together, but never actually end up doing it.

Again, i'm not saying no to content. I'm not saying no to more levels. I find ALL content easy in this game. The only thing that makes content hard for me is the group i'm in working together.

Remember, when suggesting content never consider the "right now" always consider the "month from now" Not everyone plays at launch of content, not everyone out gears content. Those people who play catch up need to get gear too. I met the bare minimum ilvl to finish story just to unlock expert roulette.

this is why yoshida is tired of the question, as people don't know what they want or asking.

Also stop making up made up scenario that don't exist. I never saw any of those in my time playing 1.0-now. And i play 16hr days, 7 days a week. I run multiple stuff through out the day, so i see a lot of players. Never saw any that you claim exist.

content difficultly and a willingness to learn is not something that goes hand in hand. I find all content easy, but i still give it my 100%. :) Nothing stops you outside yourself, difficult content will not make people play better



what I'm getting at is be realistic in your suggestions, take into account players outside of yourself and your group/fc.

SE needs to make content the players can access no matter how old it gets, and need to build content with a fair item lvl for people playing catch up. Again I'm all for more content, but a more realistic community wide suggestion would be better then the "my group wants this right now for reasons"

All that is gonna happen, is your group beats it then PFs "no bonus skip soar" which alienates everyone else. As learning parties after day one drop, and not a ton of people join them.

all I was trying to say, is think about your suggestion and how it effects everyone outside of your bubble.

No more hardcore vs casual. No more "but current content is making players bad" << fallacy

o btw OP challenge is a synonym for difficult. :) so when you ask for a challenge you are talking about difficulty.

I just want to say that you did good having the courage to ask your question, even though you messed it up. I'll be honest, and apologize for the fact that out of this forum I did have some mean thoughts about you. I'm really sorry, and wish I would of concidered people with social anxiety.

do you know how often yoshida gets asked that question. counting 1.0 rough;y 100. every live letter QA has a "can be get another raid tier" "can you make stuff more challenging" "can you make things harder"

yet when they get it "its too hard" << every time. Should look up all the past live letter QA since 1.0. :)

diadem acts like a zone, dungeons are different beasts. Look at bismark vs bismark extreme. titan >> titan hard >> titan extreme. each has different attacks or presentation. Which means more dev time.

People complained about alex story vs alex savage because it was the some mobs, same attacks just hit harder and had larger hp pools.
