Combat Damage Revamp for 4.0

I really hope they somewhat change the damage system in 4.0 to "deal damage for every swings", it's kinda awkward when, for example, a monk punches the enemy for like 4 times and only 1xdamage appear. It should be 4 punches or 4 sword swings = 4x(damage number). Just like in every modern MMOs.

they'd result in the same damage then... also it'd need work to actually do something that really isn't needed + have to consider cirts and all.

Meh, I'm happy with the way it is right now.

If you Rage of Halone and swing six times, eight times, whatever number of times it is, they will simply cut the registered damage per swing down by that amount. So if it is six swings, instead of one total 450 damage hit, you will instead see six numbers each around 75. That makes for a lot more visual clutter.

I'm happy with the lack of that particular visual clutter. Its like spell and particle effects; its nice to have them, but too much merely hides what is going on onscreen.

Wouldn't the next consequent step then be to remove the on-hit damage number entirely and just show DPS or accumulated damage for the instance or something?

This in part at least is why parry is broken.

If a 6 hit skill skill hits a tank he'd effectively have 6 chances to parry it and mitigate a chunk of the damage. But because everything is done as a single attack it cripples it a lot

Assuming you are talking about tank busters, the majority of them are only single hits and the ones that do have multiple hits have the damage split into the multiple hits for damage and I can't think of a single case where this doesn't apply.

I can only think of one exception in the entire game, and it's a randomly used MNK mob attack called Triple Threat. XD Tank busters that aren't a single massive hit are in fact split into multiple hits, like Gobrush Rushgob and that one attack the first boss uses in Fractal. At least as far as I can think of ATM. Probably others.

This...sooo much. I cannot stand playing ninja because I see the animation hit multiple times but its just one hit.

I would love some new mechanic for Tanks that would raise our crit or overall dps in proportion to our place on the Hate Scale. Would be nice to have a bump of DPS as a reward for doing our job better. Lets me tank like a boss and in exchange get a little more dps, not more then a DPS class mind you, just a bit of breathing room.

Example:

Hate = 0% {0% DPS Boost}
Hate = #2 {5% DPS Boost}
Hate = #A {5% DPS Boost, 5% Crit Boost}

We would still stance dance of course but think of it, as tank you take spot #A in defensive stance at the start, swap to DPS stance and that little 5% can give you a little more aggro room. Not game breaking, just a bit of help.

As much fun as that sounds, people already complain about jobs being designed for MT or OT, so I can't imagine something like this going over well. Can you imagine all the tank wars that'll occur in 24 man raids if this was implemented? XD

I wish it was damage per swing. Monk would be so rewarding to play with all the crits and what not.

I have not tallied up the number of animation hits for Bootshine, but for the sake of illustration, lets say its ten. Ten hits.

Bootshine has 150 Potency. If we had ten hits on it, we would have ten 15 Potency hits, totaling the current 150. It would NOT be ten individual 150 Potency hits, as that would be very unbalanced. The game is balanced around each class/job move doing so much Potency in total. Breaking that one damage number reported into each component hit would only break the total Potency up into those little hits as well.

I'm happy with the current display on screen. Its not too much, that it obscures what's going on. If it helps people to feel better about it, pretend that you are seeing the aggregate damage from that one move, and not just the number from one hit (the one hit the game cares about).

That's not a valid excuse. They could just inflate the potencies as well as enemie hp.
Carve and spit is a three fold attack
450 potency = 150 per hit
4500 potency = 1500 per hit

Some people prefer seeing 3 critical strikes as apposed to one.

I bet they are just going to reduce cooldowns greatly and TP/MP cost so the game can feel more action combat because everyone is jumping on the Action Combat Hype now. :p

Could be a nice visual improvement imo. Could just have the individual hits show the base damage then last hit can tally the actual damage - the hits already landed. would work too since most combos end with the big hit.

I would rather they got away from the "Tank and Heals must DPS" meta, even more than they did recently.

Boost tank enmity mods and nerf damage to balance when in tank stance. This makes them capable of acting as a DPS when in an OT role + DPS stance, but utterly incapable of holding hate outside of their tank stance.
Remove the accuracy requirements. They are nothing but a hindrance. Healers have few enough free GCD. If they're not dps-ing when they can, that's a player problem.

You're assuming all hits would be critical. If they separated each hit, every hit is now liable to be critical or not unless it has a specific effect to it. IE: Ninja Kassatsu> Doton= all DoTs will be critical damage. Otherwise, each tick is at the mercy of RNG. Dream Within A Dream> each hit is at the mercy of RNG to be critical.

Not really. Parry is broken because the beginning chances are so small. 6 hits, 1 hit... it doesn't make much difference.

I think cooldowns are going to get a big reduction to make combat more fluid

I also think this would make combat feel less sluggish with all the extra hits.
Problem is they'd need to revamp the way damage is displayed. Sometimes when I use Royal Authority I won't see the damage due to an auto attack being displayed.

Also..should Dots get the same treatment?

I really dont see any downside to this. Yes, more critical attacks might happen but they would also be proportionally smaller to make up for it. This would make the "One-hit" attacks stand out more, and would make attacks like rage of halone feel less like youre flailing your sword helplessly about.

I approve of this idea.
