Would be nice if we could have new ways to obtain these items as there's no sense in having them unobtainable like the Legacy tattoo.
Here's a pic with a character of mine with some of them as reference.

Wow, looking at those shoes looks seriously useful for towns. Sign me up! (for those who don't know, it allows infinite sprinting in Towns)
You can still get Garlond Goggles as far as I know.
Just gotta find an old 1.0 Collectors Edition! I mean I've had mine forever but it's not like new pairs ingame don't show up now and then.
I have a code for the armguards but they won't take them anymore. That's seriously lame. :(
As for the Shoes, we just need an XI sub crossover again!
Square doesnt think their player base could handle such op effects on a piece of gear. Go away with that and lets keep the boring gear we have now.
Honestly, I'd be all for them doing the XI sub crossover once more, or just making that permanent thing if you sub to both you get the shoes. The goggles, I fear would be far too expensive to obtain at this point for me to justify hunting them down. Mog Station or In-game would be nice.
Oh boy, these type of threads don't usually end well.
....Anyways, do those Hermes Shoes still grant infinite sprint in cities or was that just a 1.0 thing?
The retainers bring back 1.0 stuff don't they?
In that case sign me up! I'd love infinite sprint in cities, since I'm usually there anyways.
As far as I know the chocobo mask, moonlit(?) earrings, star-spangled subligar (1.0 FSH reward) were all 1.0 exclusive rewards up until they made them available in ARR eventually. So why not some of these?Although I think some of them were special promotions that needed a code?
Not anymore - now they just automatically double the duration for the default Sprint action when in one of the three cities. But they do also have the highest DEF and MDEF rating for any level 1 footwear in the game (+8 for both), making them useful defense wise when levelling a class from scratch.
Either way, the Onion Helm and Garlond Goggles are still attainable, you just need to track down an unopened copy of 1.0 with the relevant item voucher and redeem it on the Mogstation to do so. Hermes Shoes however are completely unattainable, given the bonus that gained them was cancelled years ago (if anything more than encouraging players to have a simultaneous FFXI and FFXIV subscription it was rather a way to get FFXI players to move on from PlayOnline and upgrade to the SE Account Management System for handling subs, seeing as to gain the Hermes Shoes you could only link your FFXIV account with an active FFXI account that had been transferred to the SE Account Management System. But I digress.
Given that there is still plenty of 1.0 gear that is still unattainable in ARR if you didn't get it in 1.0 (like the White Raven Earrings, 'dated' gear, the special Guardian rings etc), so I don't see this ever making a comeback. But hey, I've been proven wrong before! ;)
I wish the Hermes sandals were at least account wide. I had a pair of them in 1.0, but when I made a new character at the launch of 2.0 on a different server (to play with friends who never played 1.0) I didn't get them. I never have gone back to check that my original pair still exists really.
For those wondering, the effect is different. In 1.0 there wasn't a 'sprint' function, though there were (I think) a few ways to increase movement speed. Hermes sandals doubled (I think) your movement speed for 30 minutes once daily.
I think exclusive items should remain exclusive.
With this MMO, I disagree. We have items that were part of a entirely other game that got placed into this one that aren't obtainable, which people who have played this game should have a chance to obtain. This isn't like the Legacy Tattoo that rewarded the players of the past, these are low level armors that are side bonuses not intended to be all that special by comparison. We even had a Red Onion helm, and the Hermes shoes is just a gold variant of shoes already in the game. The effect itself is too ground breaking to pass up for other people and just because one was subbed to FFXIV and FFXI at 1.0 which can still happen if they allowed us to do that again.
People in this thread mention you can obtain some by hunting old codes, which is kind of silly when SE could give 2.0 players the chance to obtain these same items.
How about just some new stuff? I mean any new stuff is "exclusive" to 2.0 right? You can't use it in 1.0 so you can go back in time and wave it in the legacy players faces in the past because they can't have it. Though, if you call they "legacy" players back then they might get really worried as they don't yet know a meteor will be destroying the world soon... It might be fun to make them /panic though right?
Really though... I'm a completionist too but when I see stuff like this... It's the same with the thread about trying to get the legacy brand on your back... I mean... really? Why not something new that does some other cool thing. I mean some of these things were incentives for buying collectors editions and stuff...so at the very least, you should have to pay real money for them as the other people did. I could see how the boots might be useful but like, why not some other boots that do something similar instead? Why those *specific* boots... Why that specific tattoo... I know why. It's that completionist that isn't happy until you get 100% completion. Someone collects all the pets/glamours/achievement points they can but then they see there is stuff that isn't possible to get anymore and they *must!* have it.... Those things weren't even that great. Personally, I'd prefer SE to spend their time putting out something new that is even better... And if they were doing a tattoo, I'd rather it not be on the back in such a part of the back that you can't see it at all. If they were going to do a tattoo, I'd rather people be able to see it.... Especially if it costs real money or something.
I'll just say off the bat that I am not in the "legacy" status on my account, nor do I have any of these things. I have a character with the tattoo but it's lvl6 on on aegis and I didn't even log into it but once ever. I made a character on the NA server and just play that since 2.0
These items are not just 1.0 items. They are pre-order or collectors edition exclusives. That is the major difference and the reason why they should not be re-released.
Heck, SE wont even give one of the items to a founding player who accidentally linked the wrong regioned SE account years ago... there is no hope here.
Yes you're right. 1.0 Collectors came with the Onion Helm and the regular version came with the Garlond Goggles. I had to buy both copies of the game to get both items on my account (they're separate codes inside each box unlike with 2.0 where the items come with the main game code).
If SE had wanted to make these not an exclusive thing that was for putting up with the shit-show that was 1.0 (especially for buying the collector's edition of it, and/or for subbing to FFXI at the same time), they could have decided to make them available to everyone years ago.
I say this as someone who doesn't have these items, but instead of getting access to more 1.0 rewards let's get new stuff instead.
I linked my account with my XI account and got the Hermes Shoes during 1.0. Now when I make a new character all I get is my Onion Helm. No shoes, not sure why either. Never pursued it though, figured it's not worth wasting my time really.
Just get a Red Onion Helm if you have a tank. I would prefer for these items to stay rare as they were rare for very good reasons. For those who bought the trash fire of Final Fantasy XIII, Asuran Armlets were like a silver lining. Very similar for the Onion Helm from the 1.0 Collector's Edition. The boots were also a thank you gift for playing XI and XIV at the same time, which meant those people were dedicated enough and it was SE's way of saying "thank you" for paying for two subscriptions at once.
There are certain times when I like more glamour items to be available for all, but this is not one of those times. Some things should stay rare.
At what point is it ok for them to not be "exclusive"?
I could go and play on the chinese/korean servers and get these "exclusive" items, and you won't be able to stop me.
Because people want to keep their "exclusive" items "exclusive", you would try to deny newer players the opportunities handed to you?
What merit does keeping those items "exclusive" hold?
Chinese and Korean servers get exclusive items as their regions are completely different from what we have here. If you want to obtain those items, go play those versions (as you mentioned).
When a company starts going back on pre-order items, CE edition bonuses or other promotional events, this is where you will start having an issue. If suddenly everyone can obtain the "exclusive" items that you would have obtained from these methods, the value of the original product is diminished. Why would I pay $70 for a CE version when I can buy the standard version for $40 and simply wait it out until the bonus items are released to everyone?
And yes, if a new player was not around during a particular event, or did not take advantage of buying an item/version/whatever, I am 100% OK with them not getting the exclusive item attached. Why should they get it?
The request is simply to make them available again, not to make them available for nothing. If the boots came for subscribing to both FFXI and FFXIV before, then make it come from subscribing to both FFXI and FFXIV now. Just like they have the digital upgrades to pick up 2.0 and 3.0 Collectors Edition items, have another digital upgrade that would let us get 1.0's Collectors Edition items. If the conditions to get them are the same (or near equivalents) to what they were before, then their rarity status is preserved or restored to what it had been intended from the start.
- Dalamuds Horn.... what about this item.
- And a point to the people here, you talk of exclusivity but it still applies to events from 2.0 too, look at the fiasco we had with the original lightning event, the hairstyle, the weapons and armour were exclusive to the event participants, the event then got re-released. a storm carried on, and then they inevitably put them in the cash shop.. but i presume that's fair because its just event items right? :/
as for the pre-order incentives of the game, the moogle hat and helm of light dont stretch far out of their means since they only fit specific gear (labyrinth of the ancients comes to mind..
all in all, i personally believe they should just add them to the mog station or an achievement tie/one time event, this gives the people who want them an option. even if it was a limited time mog station that would be better than "not at all."
lol.
I'm sorry that some people feel that they deserve to have everything given to them, regardless of whether or not they earned the item. This has nothing to do with feeling special, but more not being an entitled prat who doesn't understand exclusivity in MMOs and video games.
I have missed out on several items, but I've never once come to the forums begging to have it given to me just because.
You'll be able to get a Dalamud horn next time they crash a meteor into the game and reboot it. Just wait for that.
Never. Otherwise, they aren't exclusive.
Go for it, different servers and slightly different game. The exclusivity was for this game.
Not so much because I don't want to keep "exclusive" items " exclusive" more that we were told that doing action "X" will give item "Y" but only if done at time "Z". SE said they were "exclusive", not us. Don't like it, ask SE why they make "exclusive" things. I'm pretty sure that maximizing their profits would be part of their answer.
For people that have them? A feeling of time or money well spent that they may not have spent otherwise. For SE? The knowledge that if they offer "exclusive" items for money in the future that people will buy them at the price they ask for them.
The problem for SE is this. Dalamud minion required buying a $40 or $50 soundtrack. Someone buys the soundtrack mostly for the minion. The combination is worth that amount to them. SE later adds it to the mog station for $10. They will not be able to sell as many overpriced soundtracks as before since people will decide to wait for the mog station release instead.
Actually, we do lose something. We lose faith in SE that when we give them something we may not have given otherwise for something "exclusive" that it will actually be, you know, "exclusive".
Also, I have answered all 3 of your questions.
So you're entitled to it because you "earned" it, and anyone else wanting to earn it the exact same way is being selfish? Nobody is saying we should have stuff without earning it. People are just saying they should let new people earn it the same as they let previous people earn it.
For actual exclusives (as in things which were designed originally to be exclusive, like pre-order bonuses or the legacy tattoo) their value relies on maintaining that exclusivity, so I'd agree with you there, but nobody has been asking for access to those. The things people are asking for are items that were gotten either in-game or through other offers that could still be made available. Collectors Edition bonuses, for example, could be available through a CE upgrade, just like we already have for 2.0 and 3.0 CE items. In-game event items could be available through another event.
Not a valid example if those soundtracks are still available and still give the minion. There's no need to put it on the mog station by itself if there's already another way to get it. (If the soundtracks aren't available any more, then maybe they should be re-released. Or if they're not going to be, then their continued sales are irrelevant.)
ARR is in a funky position as they decided to grandfather in our characters (and items) from a completely separate game. While the items from 1.0 may not have been obtained through events or specific purchases (I honestly can't remember at this point, would have to go back and check a few..), it could be said that these do fall into the "exclusive" category as 1.0 is no longer a thing.
I'm really not opposed to event items being obtainable again through similar events. XIV has a fairly set event schedule - we have Christmas/New years, Valentines Day, Spring event, Summer event, Fall event, etc. I would love if they adapted the XI (and early XIV!) thinking where you could buy old event items from the vendor when it came around again.
I think a CE upgrade option would be a good idea. Just make the pricing even between those who purchased the CE straight out vs. the upgrade, and I don't think anyone would have a reason to argue that.
But to get back to 1.0, I personally feel they should just leave these alone. I am missing some items, notably the horn and goobbue, but it is what it is.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do want to add, my last post was a bit more harsh than it should have been, but that was more directed at the specific poster I had quoted. :X I don't think there is anything wrong with opening up discussion about somehow getting items back into the game through similar methods, but there is a point where some things are just going to remain exclusive.
Those who defend exclusive items are insulted quite frequently, told that we just want to be special snowflakes, or that we're being selfish. The insult slingers are the ones who seem to have an unreasonably high sense of entitlement.
But anyway, I do apologize as I am really not wanting to group everyone into the "entitled" category. I generally try to steer clear of painting a whole group with a single brush, and I'm sure it came off that way.
It does not give the minion anymore. Only the first run of the soundtrack had the code for the minion.
This is as simple as I can make it. Please comprehend.
The only reason I have EVER given them $50 for a soundtrack, art book, plushie, whatever, was the exclusivity of the item attached to it. Not exclusive and available at any time? Screw you, I'll wait for a sale instead thank you very much.
I paid the full price to get that item, forgoing any chance at getting it for less to be given something in return.
Furthermore, everyone in the world, unless they were significantly underage, had the same opportunity to buy the item when released. For whatever reason, playing another game or whatever, they did not buy it t. Live with that decision.
Want to peeve off your customers? Lie to them.
To break that exclusivity, which Yoshi-P himself said won't happen, will do more harm than good to the company.
So if the acquisition cost remains the same there is no problem?
If not your assertion that there is a problem is false
Lose faith?
"Exclusive" event items have already been put on the mog station, there is precedent for "your" "exclusive" items to go there as well.
