STOP SELLING G9 COVERING AND LET PEOPLE RESET FEEDS.

I messed up my 19/20 star G9 chocobo because I thought there is a G10. It was only till after feeding grade 1 feed to it, I started to realize their might not be a G10 because at G9 my stats were out of 500. GM could not do anything to help me but hugest I write on the forum for suggestion.
My suggestion: STOP CONFUSING THE HELL OUT OF PLAYERS BY SELLING G9 COVERINGS WHEN G10 CHOCOBOS DON'T EXIST!!!!!
For people that don't know, the new chocobo is one level higher than the coverings.
Suggestion two: Let people reset their feeds.
I now have to get my chocobo to 40 when I would not have needed to, retire it and breed it x amount of times and spend more MGP. thanks.....

i can agree a stat-reset would be nice.

but if you have a 19 star grade 9 chocobo you should probably bring him to lvl 50 to get the achievement for the 285 rating before you retire him

With all due respect, didn't you just assume on your own that the max rank was 10? I can understand you somehow missing the hint that 9 was the max rank but even then, you honestly should have researched what was the max rank by the time you hit G9 at the latest. I've never heard of anyone else being confused by this, personally. G9 Coverings have a very legitimate purpose, there's no reason why they should not be sold.

What do G9 coverings do that G8 at a cheaper cost doesn't? I didn't assume on my own, I thought it was very logical that with G9 coverings the fledgling would be G10. Why would I research it after that point? When I got the achievement it said I got it for getting a G9 or higher Chocobo, even the achievement suggested there was higher.

Can't you go down a chocobo Grade if you use a covering lower than the chocobo's grade? Example, if you use a G8 cover on a G9 choco, isn't there a chance you can get a G8 choco? So theoretically, you need G9 covers to keep breeding G9's right?

First, stop raging about a mistake you made and trying to blame it on the game.
Second, think about what you said.

Your suggestion to remove G9 chocobo covering forms is downright dumb. You say you didn't know chocobos couldn't get to G10 because the vendor only sells up to G9, so you want them to remove G9 so people (you) will know it maxes at G9. So pretend they did remove G9. You get your chocobo to G8, breed it with a G8 covering form and it produces a G9 chocobo. What's stopping you from breeding another G9, retiring them both and breeding them with each other to see if it produces a G10? It's your same problem all over again.

You obviously have access to the internet, so why did you not look up what the max pedigree was instead of breeding blindly and getting mad at your incorrect assumption? Instead of being cautious and spending 2 minutes figuring that out beforehand, you're now paying the price by spending hours getting back to where you were.

The achievement you got said grade 9 or higher because that's Square Enix's way of preparing for the future. It may never go higher than 9, but if it does they don't have to update any old text.

The number of stars each parent has on a covering permission form is determined by the grade of the form and RNG. A higher grade covering form will have a higher chance to have more stars than those of lower grade forms.

Racing chocobo stat resets may never be a thing because of the way points are distributed when your chocobo levels up. By maxing an attribute early, you can force the game to allocate stats to other attributes. If you were to reset the stats, which would be reset? The base stats, stats gained from food, stats randomly allocated when your chocobo leveled up, or a mixture of the three? Personally, this feature would greatly screw up your chances of breeding an ultimate chocobo.

It's really funny how many people post here but don't know how breeding works. G8 + G8 = G9, G8 + G9 = G9, G9 + G9 = G9. All result in G9. The cost, G8 2,650. G9 2950.
YET THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT. PLAYERS WILL ASSUME THEY SERVE A PURPOSE AND G10 EXISTS WHEN THERE IS NO SUCH PEDIGREE. YOU DON'T NEED G9 TO BREED G9.

G2 covering breeds G3 fledgling
G3 covering breeds G4 fledgling
G4 covering breeds G5 fledgling
G5 covering breeds G6 fledgling
G6 covering breeds G7 fledgling

It is upto SE to make it logical and clear. This is a game not research.
Achievement: Obtain a new chocobo with a pedigree level of 9 or higher. <--- why research why it says there is higher.
It would make more sense to just say, Achievement: Obtain a new chocobo with a pedigree level of 9 and if the max rank changes, add a new achievement.
or higher in the achievement discription is unnecessary here. G9 coverings are unnecessary here.

I never tried to go higher though. People say it's fast to grind now, but when I did it before nerfs it was a monster grind and the items/feed used to cost a lot, so I only went as far as I needed.

Silver lining: grind isn't so bad now and you can earn MGP fast especially during the current event. But yeah, system could be more clear.

it is more likely that the the child will get the stats of the parent with the lower pedigree. so if you breed a G9 together with a G8 it is more likely to get the stats from the G8 for the child. so, if you have a G9 chocobo with good, but not perfect stats, and want to further increase them, you need a G9 covering because G9 + G9 are equal. if you use a G8 you have a high chance to lose the stats from your good G9 chocobo.

got a source for the fact that stats from G8 are more likely to transfer than the G9 parent? sounds made up to me. I never seen such information.

Takeaway from this is, don't buy a covering permission of a grade that's higher than your current chocobo! It's a waste of MGP.

Chocobos inherit stars from their parents in a strange way. The short version is that they actually inherit random star ratings from their grandparents, not their parents, with each grandparent star rating being equally likely.

Not all suggestions are made equal.. if you can call it that.

G9 covering forms exist so people have a choice on how to breed their chocobo. People can either be minimalists and buy only what they need to to produce a higher grade fledgeling (those just looking to get the achievement ASAP), or they can take a chance and buy higher grade forms which could result in the fledgeling having higher stars earlier (those completionist-types looking to make a high star bird).

Don't suggest a change that would affect other players negatively just because you had a bad experience. It would be like choking on expensive food at a restaurant and then trying to get them to take the food you choked on off the menu, using "it's just as healthy as the cheaper food" as an excuse.

At its core, you're really just complaining that the achievement's text confused yourself and others (it's very important to include other people were affected by this as well), so the thread should be a suggestion to reword it to be less confusing, and that's it.

A probable reason why it says 'Pedigree 9 or higher' is more than likely that they MIGHT have plans in the future that go above pedigree 9, so they have that there so they won't have to change it in the future. Besides, chocobo racing has been out for a LONG WHILE now, so why wouldn't you have bothered to take even a moment to look stuff up about it?


I do agree fully on an item that allows people to reset their racing chocobo's stats though, I didn't remember a lot of what I read about the stats and am currently getting my butt handed to me when racing other players (Roughly 440-460 in every stat), but I'm able to get first place most of the time when I solo race, so it's not the worst

acceleration is a bit useless, you want to just level the other ones. I just about capped everything with feeds but acceleration.

In terms of breeding outcome, you are correct. However, you're failing to understand that covering forms are used for more than just breeding a higher grade fledgeling.

Pretty sure he wanted stats from food reset. It could be done if more data was added to store training stats separately. Kind of like how players get stat points on levelup, and get to use Hymns to reset them.
(I would really like it if our stat points allowed for as much build variation though. Maybe let us distribute secondary stats like crit/det/spd instead? D: )

I thought Sprint/SuperSprint temporarily locks your speed at 500, and thus has less benefit for stronger chocobos like yours. Wouldn't it be better to fish for Head Start or teach some sort of resistance instead?

Super Sprint accelerates to max speed (500) and ignores terrain penalty (so.. basically as if Cunning was 500?).
Thus using it you can 'simulate' having capped Acceleration and Cunning, at least from the point on that you activate it.

...or at least that's how I understood the skill so far.

cunning helps stamina as much as speed and terrain penalties apply for the whole race, not just whilst accelerating. Acceleration is hardly used. I use heavy and frenzy resistance so I don't have any reason to slow down, so I only have to get to the max speed once and even without food skilled acceleration up it doesn't take long to get to max speed, since chocobos don't exactly run that fast anyway.

You are right in thinking you can use a skill like super sprint or headstart to compensate but it is not worth compensating, in the long run there are other skills more useful. I have Max Speed and Stamina on 500, Endurance on 490 and cunning on 475. I couldn't care less about acceleration, it is under 300 and I still beat almost everybody since I got my G9 max stars maxed out with 2250 stat points.

I learned from experience. Buy a G1 covering form and count the total number of stars, then buy a G9 covering form and count the total number of stars. Since RNG plays a factor into how many stars each parent has for each attribute, there's no guarantee that higher grade covering forms will always have more stars, but it's true most of the time. The best G9 covering form I ever got had about 28/40 stars, while the worst I ever got had about 17/40 stars.

If you're trying to breed an ultimate racing chocobo and want make 1-3 of its stats a perfect 500, your chocobo is level 50, it's out of allowances, and the remaining value to reach 500 is not a multiple of 15, you're screwed. No amount of stat resets will save you, and you will either need to breed another chocobo and start over, or sacrifice stat points.
Simplified: Pretend your chocobo is rank 50, you have 0 allowances, have only fed it grade 3 blends, and it's maximum speed is 490/500. You reset the stats but refeeding it brings it back up to 490/500 maximum speed. If you train it one more time, you will be wasting 5 attribute points. The safest way around this is to max the attribute early while leveling. Thus, resetting stats earned from feeds will not help you get a 2250 chocobo unless RNG has blessed you like no other.

Super Sprint forces your chocobo to run at 500 speed regardless of weather, terrain or negative status effects (excluding Lamed) until it runs out of stamina. That means even if you're hit with a Graviball (Heavy), you will not slow down! The downside is that while using Super Sprint, your chocobo's stamina drains very quickly. To help with this problem I also trained it to have Choco Cure III which restores 12% of its stamina, helping me power through the last leg of the race. The worst thing that can happen to me is getting hit with Bacchus' Water which makes my chocobo's stamina drain even faster. To prevent this, I take caution to notice what items are in the chests ahead of me so I can decide whether I want to take the first item to prevent it from being used on me, or to leave it because I don't want the second item being used on me. (In my case, if the first item is Bacchus' Water, take it and use it immediately so it can't be stolen. If the first item is not Bacchus' Water but the second item is, ignore the chest)

The higher grade forms have a higher chance of having parents with more stars which is extremely useful for breeding a high star, low grade fledgeling, as well as for getting an early start on breeding a 40 star chocobo.

I've seen no evidence of this, before getting a max star chocobo I must have spend 100k on garbage coverings and my G9 were no better on average than G8.

"On average".

G9s are no better "on average" than G8s. G8s are no better "on average" than G7s. G7s are no better "on average" than G6s. G6s are no better "on average" than G5s. G5s are no better "on average" than G4s. G4s are no better "on average" than G3s. G3s are no better "on average" than G2s. G2s are no better "on average" than G1s.

The point is that each grade of form has a best and worst outcome. Higher grade forms have a higher best outcome. The chances of you getting a form with the best outcome are extremely low, but the chances of you getting a high grade form with an average outcome are better than your chances of getting a low grade form with a high outcome.
Think of it like this: G8s can have 15-30 total stars and G9s can have 16-32 total stars. The odds of getting a G8 chocobo with 25+ stars would be 33%, but the odds of getting a G9 chocobo with 25+ stars would be 47%. (these numbers are not actual, but the concept is)
