One thing always bugged me about Glamour Prisms: Why five Grades for each type?

So there's seven types of Glamour Prisms, and there are five Grades. That's thirty-five different items.

But they're not really so different. All Grades of a single type of Prism are crafted at the same level with the same mats. All they really cover is the item-level range of the gear they are glamouring.

I guess it kinda promotes some kinda market movement? But it's pretty minor compared to the major money-makers like the relic items.

The time I realized it was kinda silly was when HW launched. This was in the patch notes.

So instead of adding more grades (thankfully), the level ranges were rearranged. Okay neat, makes sense. But the thing is, as more expansions come you're gonna have to keep on rearranging the Grades having the lower levels cover more. Grade 1 is probably gonna cover 1-80 when 4.0 starts!

Wouldn't it be best just to simplify it and just have one type of Glamour Prism per craft?

I think it'd be nice to have. Would especially lighten up the inventory, since glamouring is the true endgame.

They separated it like that originally so you couldn't glamour on gear that was above your level, so you couldn't do things like glamour on Ironworks gear to your level 20 character.

And you know how easy that would be to resolve it? The system would check if the level of the glamour gear is higher than the level of the original gear and go "Nope, can't do that. The base level of the chosen gear is higher than the gear you want to glamour. Glamour won't work".

EDIT: Actually it already does this lol. Tested with Level 45 Fingerless Raptorskin Gloves trying to Glamour Artisan's Mitts (Lv50, ilevel 60). They're both under "Grade 2" but because the gear level is higher it won't work.

Yes, it's stupid and needlessly convoluted. In a game with such limited inventory space, we not only have to hold onto potential Glamour items, but if we want to switch Glamour conveniently, we need these stupid Prisms on hand... There are 36 varieties of these stupid things!

It's stupid, and comparable to the original implementation of gear Repairs... Actually, gear repairs were slightly better, I mean we could always use Grade 5 Dark Matter to repair anything, having to switch to the craft was annoying though... Glamour Prisms? Nope. You need a Grade 2 Prism (Goldsmith), can't use a higher tier one for the same job for lord knows what reason... Still, the simply fact that we even need a specific type on top of tier annoys me to no end... Can we at least have an Omni-Prism synthed from combining all the others? I mean, if it's still too much trouble to give us a real Glamour system... I want to change Glamour on a whim, I don't want to have to either bog my inventory down with these stupid things, or run to a Market Board, and I certainly don't have to go through what I'm Glamouring going "I need this, that, and that". It's just an annoying, stupid system. At least if there was an Omni-Prism I could just get a stack of those like I carry a stack of Grade 6 Dark Matter...

Really though, they need to give us a proper Glamour system, not some lame attempt to give crafters a market... Ugh, I feel a crafting rant coming on... *deep breaths* 3.2 is coming with failed promises for crafters making actual gear *deep breaths*

They could merge all prisms into "one" item, save on a bunch of inventory space.

I have a suspicion that this idiodic move on the Glamour system is what is eating up all the memory that could have been used on a fisherman bait box. I'd even be willing to do aong, drug out Quest line that would set me back (anouther) million Gil if that ment getting a bait box.

They have a system in pvp gear where you can even glamour it without the right rank. Same is true for l not being able to glamour high level gear vs low lv player.

I believe the grades are just there to allow more crafters to craft.

The funny thing is, if they were removed there'd be a riot.

Over complication is the name of the game!

More stuff to sell and more money to make. I don't mind it, personally.

So there are different demands for different prism tiers, that players can give different prices.

Element materias are good. A cheap way to increase spiritbind rate by 10%.
Don't take them away.

All glamour prisms are the same crafting level, and require the same ingredients save for the base prism.

Honestly, things would be a lot easier if they just had one tier of glamor prism which worked universally. No more accidentally making a T5 when I needed a T4 or vice versa, and no more carrying 5 tiers of prism 'just in case'. It's a silly system which could do with streamlining.

I can also ask, why do we have glamour prisim in the first place? why can't we just glamour the stuff. if u mean to make crafting more relivant, i am sure there is more effective ways than that. i only them for myself or occasional situation when a friend ask me. i do not like to camp the marcket board to sell stuff like that.

They're easy money, the easiest money in the game in fact. It doesn't even require camping, just throw some up every now and then and they usually always sell within the hour (unless it's a less popular brand like alchemy or woodworking then it might take a bit).

easy money, do u mean to say its a way to make gill? that maybe some decent income for somoene who has below 100k gill i guess. but for somoene like me who has usually 1m to 6m on hand in either items or other material / food to sell to mb, its not much. also there is people with 100m or even max gold, what use is it for them?

Funny you should mention Fishing... The Fish Guide is essentially what a Glamour Log could (should) be... I mean, I don't have any Malm Kelp in my inventory, but I can view the information on it in my Fish Guide if I want... A Glamour Log would function similarly; You obtain some gear, burn it into your Log, then you can access that Glamour where ever you are... I never quite understood their "We'd rather just add more inventory space" argument for this... I mean, a Glamour Log would only store the visual information for gear; The stats, durability, spiritbond level, and so on... None of that would need to be stored, none of that is important for Glamours, after all... I would gladly burn gear to unlock solely the visual information for Glamours in such a Log, and you know what happens then? I get two bleedin' retainers worth of inventory space back.

I think that explains both why their argument is stupid, and why they're never going do anything about it. A Glamour Log frees up inventory space, we don't need more inventory space with that in mind. Retainers cost money though, real money, so it's in their best interest to keep this crappy system in place to "force" people to subscribe for the extra retainer service...

The real reason they give us 5 grades of prisms is so SE can bloat our inventory. And then when we ask them to implement solutions to the inventory problem, they direct us to the mogstation where we can buy more retainers and tell us that's the only thing that can be done.

The glamour system is cluncky and full of fluff, one prism to rule them all I'd say. Or even better once I've owned an item I can glamour it from some kind of log as mentioned above. I also agree that the glamour prism market isn't great for crafters, considering the market value of them I'd much rather fill my retainers with other products, that make far more money than prisms or sell faster/higher quantities. I'm just glad I can make all the prisms myself, that way I just keep the base materials and make what I want on demand to save space, if I had to buy them it would drive me nuts.

I'd guess that the main reason for their being multiple grades for each type is so that the market for each one doesn't become over-bloated with supply in the long run. They're easy to craft (it seems) to both serve as an early "carrot" to get people to perhaps try crafting that wouldn't otherwise, and also as a way for less devoted crafters to have a steady stream of income. Since they're so easy to craft, if there were only one type for each crafting class, the potential for supply to outstrip demand could be significant.

I'm not sure the different grades are truly necessary (it's honestly hard to predict market trends without actually implementing the change being discussed), but whether or not they are, that seems to be why the developers did things this way.

Pretty much this. it's relatively easy/ consistent gil for new crafters, but not really for older/experienced crafters.

While it's rare, it still happens (to me) that __ prism is being sold on my server. Gilgamesh is one of the most populated server, yet there are times where I can't even buy it. I can't imagine how it might be like in lesser populated server.

I'm fine with there being glamour prisms for each DoH, but not with the various grades.

This would be the ideal thing to have. Would also be future proof for further expansions and would help simplify one of many things in the game that are complex for sake of being complex.

One person's easy money is another person's reluctant but habituated pain in the ass.

More things -> more stuff to manage -> more content! Thousands of items to find, gather and use! Other games only have hundreds! Many games fall into the trap of adding needless complexity in order to make the game appear to have more depth, but in the end only manage to make it annoying to manage.

While were at it lets get rid of those clear prisms and the use of crystals. We need a shard sink, not more crystal usage.

Handy for those who mass produce these, but it seems to completely miss the point and instead just perpetuates the problem. We need a way to reduce the need for so many items in the first place, not a way to make more of them.

Agreed, we should just make it simple and have one prism of each kind..not 5 different kinds..

they all use the same materials anyway lol

Which reminds me, I like how the Glamour system was originally designed so you couldn't "Trick" people into thinking you're a different class. And yet we have all this universal gear that are just alternative versions of Discipline specific gear. Like the Taffeta Loincloth or Light Steel Subligar set lol.

Uhm, if you're in a party they can see your class icon, and if you're not they don't typically care. So there was never "Tricking" anyone about your class. But what could have been an issue was a lvl 15 <Insert Class Here> borrowing a friend's old gear and glamouring his ilvl <Insert Higher Number Here> to his ilvl 5-10 equipment.

The answer, Game Lore. White Mage weapons are wood (ish) and Black Mage weapons are Metal (for the most part).

^ must point out that WHM & BLM have both gotten wood & metal staff's since re-launch... heck ant there a wand/staff that can be used by both? but becides that & only shed light on that to show just how "confused" ppl "could" be if they arn't smart enouf to look at the party list... I do agree that "item" bloat is starting to get unreal for me, now I don't craft as much as a true "omni-crafter" or horde gear like a glamoholic but even my retainers are now past the 70% full mark... gona have to toss gear I actually don't use or can get again easy, even if I like their look, sooner than I'd like to
