5GP Every 3s Is Kind of Not Okay

Heya! So... with the GP maximums going higher and higher and higher, having GP regen at 5 every 3 seconds is starting to get more and more unbearable. And Cordials/Hi-Cordials will soon not even be able to restore one's GP to maximum (not to mention they have a 4m cooldown on them).

My proposal: Change the 5 GP every 3 seconds to 5% of Max GP every 3 seconds. I ask this of you because MP regenerates using a percentile system and it's balanced, so GP should regen the same way.

I would be happy if there was just a food or potion that would increase gp regen rate.

I am currently at 662 / 664 GPs without food, aiming for 700.

I have no problem with nodes 2 hours appart but I do go through quite a few cordials.

i have 647 GP on my fisher. my biggest problem with that 5GP / sec is that you everytime you switch to your gatherer class you only start with 400 GP. so you have to wait before you even gathered one item...

and it gets just worse with better gear / buffood...

I am on the fence with the increase in GP/tick but what I think we should have had was an increase in base GP/CP when Heavensward was released. It could be a trait that activates at level 60 (or 51, depending) which increases your base from 400GP to 500GP. In fact, there should be a 50GP increase at lvl51 & another at lvl60 given how important GP has become with collectables etc.

It seems strange that as our skill (level) increases our base stats don't for DoL/DoH. If they introduced such traits it would minimise the need for gear inflation. In the future we're going to need rings that provide 100GP just so we can reach the insane collectable level that will occur. 1500 collectability anyone? XD

Or GC seals (for Cordial) or Blue gatherer scrip (for Hi-Cordials).

The GP regen limit definitely encourages people to play smart and choose between options. Nothing wrong with that.

Cordials would be a great way to nip the problem in the bud if they didn't have a 4m wait period between uses. 2m maybe, but 4m is a bit much.

people are not supposed to spend 600 gp every minute, it would ruin the value of all items, if everyone could gather everything at any time

its good as it is, you have to gather less for more profit

That's why a lot of desirable nodes are on timers. I mean, what are you going to do when, in 4.0, the recommended max GP is a crazy number like 3k and it still ticks at 5 GP every 3 seconds? Even with Cordials, that's insane, and for a system that requires you to burn 600+ GP on most nodes for optimum gathering, the least they could do is change regen to a percentile value.

I mean, Crafting classes get it easy. Craft something, burn all your CP, and when you finish crafting, you get all of your CP back instantly. And then MP for combat classes regenerates on a percentile system, which makes Piety suck a lot less than it would if MP regenerated at a flat rate.

I mean, when I gather, I want to gather. I don't want to wait five minutes in between ephemerals because of my garbage GP regen rate.

OTOH, crafters have to get the mats, either by buying mats from a gatherer or by gathering the mats themselves. SO they either have to spend the time gathering, just like you, or pay you to spend the time.

Right now, I find it is a lot easier to make money by gathering than by crafting.

A simple solution would be to will scale the tick value to the GP maximum.

E.g. 0 - FULL takes 5 minutes. A tick every 3 seconds would mean 100 ticks to go from empty to full.
Your tick value would be determined by your maximum GP.
If you are a young gatherer with 300 GP maximum, 3 GP per tick. For the master gatherer with 650 GP, then 6.5 GP per tick.

Gp is fine at where it's at as previously mentioned by other posters. Just pop a cordial. Your not meant to mine and gather every unspoiled/legendary node with 600 gp.

The slow GP rate makes it so getting leafborne and landborne sand trying. At best in one window you can gather max rarity twice. If someone has a different experience let me know I am still trying to get all the new gear. D:

Have you tried using High-Cordials? They can almost double your GP regen (400GP, 4 minute cool-down versus a base of 300GP per 2.9 minute Eorzean bell).

An ephemeral window practically lasts (since you need some time to do the last gather and the nodes disappear a little early) 3.6 or so bells, which is about 10.5 minutes. Depending on the timing of the collectibles appearing, you should be able to use 2 High Cordials in that period, for a total GP regeneration of about 1800 GP. If you came in topped-of and got really lucky, you might be able to do 4 600GP rotations, although that would take very good luck indeed. But three could definitely happen ...

Yeah I haven't tried high cordials yet, I haven't bought any in a while. (Long live fishing!) But yeah luck seems to be the main determining factor, even with this it makes the rate of sands gathered pretty low. So a gp increase one way another would help the number of sands gathered but it might kill the market too(seaborne rate will be less affected) leaving me on the fence. :/

5 GP is definitely okay. 5 GP per 1 Eorzean minute = 300 GP each Eorzean hour. That's a good amount.

If it's the 3s thing you're inquiring; that's a huge server tweak

They should change the 400 cap for starting GP on class change tho. There's no reason to start you without a full bar if it's been long enough.

Technically ... That's because you regen to 400 GP when on another class/job. That 400 is the base starting amount; it is how much you have when you have no GP gear on.

Because a Monk or a Carpenter has no GP gear, they cannot get more than that 400. So you only have that 400 when you go from a crafting/combat to a gathering.

N.B.: I was out hunting Ornery Karakuls between timed-node spawns the other day as a WHM, with iLvL 200 WHM mainhand, hat, and body, but wearing full right-hand side gathering gear, gathering belt, gathering legs, and gathering feet. Not only did I get a nice fleece yield (while one-shotting the poor wee sheepsies) , I had 600+ GP when I switched back to Miner. :)

Well they could easily change them to have 2000 and let the gatherers be full on change.

That's not not likely to ever be allowed.

The current system restores your GP at the same rate regardless of what class you are on, and caps your GP based on your currently-equipped gear. It's a simple system to code, and doesn't seem to be exploitable. So that is likely to remain how things work.

That only proves my point. You still have your GP stat even when not a gathering class. If you equip GP gear, while not a gathering class, you will naturally regen (5 GP for 3 seconds or for 1 Eorzean minute) to whatever cap the GP gear you have on raises you to. Most people do not wear GP gear when a combat or crafting class, so are stuck with that 400 base cap.

No, it's the same as current. GP would still fill at the same rate regardless of class. Combat and crafting classes would just have a much higher maximum GP (2k) so that when you change to a gatherer it would drop down to their current equipped maximum and start them off full. That's all, just starting off full on that first change.

I know it proves your point. That's why I labeled it "N.B." for "nota bene," which is "to draw the attention of the reader to a certain aspect or detail of the subject on hand" (at least by one definition).

Harvesting fleece between nodes is a bit of a special use, but when you're overgeared for that or FATEs or whatever, equipping some GP gear in preparation for an upcoming timed node can be helpful. If you are level-synced, the GP gear might not even lower your combat stats, I have not checked.

I love gp but currently 5% is 30 for me and 30 per 3 seconds is way too much. You may as well throw cordials away at that point.

Yeah if only they made them available in some cheap method like GC seals or somethin...

or made a better type of cordial available, that'd work too right?

The max gp has gone up about 50 points since 2.x series. This is not that big of a deal.

1% or 2% makes much more sense. 5 GP is 1.25% of the base, so 1.25% could be a good regen rate.

Maybe they could change what we get when we gather stuff. Like we get double GP back if we get a HQ or something. Anything is better than burning cordials. I just tend to go spend an hr surfing youtube while I wait for my GP to come back. I'm always gone longer than I mean to be. >.<

I have to say that I agree with the original post. My main problems with GP are multi-faceted.

1. The total GP you need to burn to get a collectible of the rank high enough to actually turn in for blue and red scrips is insane. 600 GP minimum (a full set of ilvl 150 gear with a materia melded in for additional GP) to be able to get scrips as a miner or botanist. This means you burn your entire GP pool for each node. So you have to skip nodes because you can't even regen fast enough to get them all.
2. When you peek into an unspoiled node, even if you don't strike your first gathering attempt, it will disappear if you exit the node prematurely to let your GP regen. This is a serious problem when you accidentally click on the node when you aren't at full GP. I have missed out on over a half dozen nodes in the last 2 weeks because of this game breaking mistake in design.

3. GP regens way too slow. Compare this to CP which regens 100% after every item crafted and it becomes clear that this is an unneeded burden on the gathering classes. We should regen to full as soon as we finish a node. If that is not going to happen then look at the following issues:
4. Cordials and Hi-Cordials share the same cool down. This is ridiculous on its face. They should be on separate cool downs. You have over 600GP to regen, but you can only regen a maximum of 400 per use. Why?
5. Cordials and Hi-Cordials have 4 minute cool downs. If you are not going to separate the cool downs for these items, and you are not going to regen our GP after each node, then at least make it so we can use the cordials and hi-cordials faster. It is an absolutely abysmal system to have to wait 4 minutes between node harvests because of a cool down on an item.

Couple all of these issues together with the fact that by design Botany and Mining have a terrible return on Blue and Red Scrips compared to Fishing (I have seen fishers cap their red scrips in under 3 hours compared to miners/botanists who take 7 hours to cap). It's silly stupid and it needs to be redesigned.

If nothing else the GP bar needs to regen as fast as HP/MP/TP.

Blue Scrip were very easy for me to get. Granted, I DID have that 600 GP (between gear and melds, and food) but with the 2 game hours between the blue scrip nodes, it was easy enough to start at 10, gather those collectibles, move to the next collectibles at 12, wait for the GP to finish restoring, gather, then move to the collectibles at 2, wait for the GP, and gather.

With red scrips being capped at 95% gathering rate though, I need 650 GP, not just 600. And that is still quite doable, as long as you are in place for the 9 o'clock Chysahl. Gather, then move to the Adamantite node, wait for the GP to finish restoring, and then gather that.

I'm really not sure which nodes you are worried about skipping when it comes to scrip. Unless .. Are you trying to get red scrip on the Eventide Jade (or its botany equivalent)? 5 RCS per Collectible, with an expected yield of 1-3 per visit (depending on Impulsive props), compared to 2-4 per node, once every half hour, at 15 RCS per Collectible. You are looking at 60 minimum when going for both the Chysahl and Adamantite Collectibles, every half hour. That's not too much worse for Mining and Botany than what you've heard Fishing can do, without any of Fishing's RNG. Factor in the RNG, and it becomes even faster.

For all Collectibles, you want to get the highest yield at the lowest profitable Collectability rating. That is, if Chysahl Greens are 15 RGS at 470-499 Collectability, 16 RGS at 500-529 Collectability, and 18 RGS at 530+ Collectability, you want to get 2-4 at 15 RGS apiece rather than 1-3 at 16 or 18 RGS apiece. This gives you an overall greater amount of RGS for your time spent at the node.

Oh ya .. You do NOT need the i150 gear to get Blue Gathering Scrip . I was getting it just fine with level 55 gear. It would be rather ridiculous requiring level 60 gear to get a currency you use to get level 57 gear, would it not? To get the RGS, yes; BGS, no.

Of course not but it helps. You forget that there are three gathering classes. Your first to 60 will naturally be the longest. After that, you have a lvl 60 that can get the 72 BGS for each item. Once your other classes have the 57 gear, they do just fine getting the 72 scrip collectables.

You should be working Collectibles as your primary miner/botanist exp method once you hit 50/51. Getting BGS to get the gear comes naturally, and can be done with the level 55 set.

You really should be looking at getting some of the level 57 gear around the time you hit 57, maybe 58 on your FIRST gathering class, not your second. You can start getting the scrip at 56, after all.

Are you able to get a full 600 or 650 GP restoration between Chysal Greens & Adamantite Ore? I have always required a cordial between them but if there's a way to get it to restore naturally that would be beneficial.

It is kind of tight, but it is quite doable. Start the Chysahl right after 9, finish quickly, and you will have to wait a bit at the Adamantite until you hit 650, but you then have time if you don't dawdle.

Personally, I don't do things that way - I wait for 550 GP at the Adamantite node and get 15 Adamantite Ores rather than a couple of collectibles, but it is quite doable to get Collectibles from both nodes without using a Cordial or High Cordial.

I have started gathering the Chysahl Greens even around 9:15 and had just enough time to get my 600 GP back for adamantite collectables just before the node disappeared. I used to use cordial every time just to be safe when I first started red scrips, but cordial is really better used for other things and I have saved a lot this way. If you can quickly do the red scrips rotation (it's almost subconscious at this point) then it's very doable.
