Check his lodestone. He has insane gear. All of his left side gear is i210 and he got full STR accessories except 1 crafted i150 ring. Loot-whore combined with optimal gameplay = insane DPS.
This is the reason why I'm not a big fan of this resurgence of DPS leaderboards, or at least how they're implemented currently.
There's nothing telling you what gear that person was wearing at the time, and it doesn't tell you if the group specifically altered tactics to inflate a single person's DPS.
At least back in 2.0/2.1, I only ever saw this kind of behavior in hidden away corners of the internet where someone tells a BLM they should be doing 450 DPS in Turn 1 while showing said person a parse of a single tank, overgeared ~1 minute kill. DPS leaderboards make setups like this seem like the norm.
They're the norm for Alexander Savage at the moment. Anywhere else they're not.
You are correct when you say the biggest problem with this site is that you can't see what gear setup the person was using at the time. However, an experienced player can usually tell by looking at how often you're able to hit your GCD (they can figure out how much skill speed you have). You can also figure out how much STR gear they have on by their maximum HP. Little nuances like "Which STR ring were they using? The det/crit or the acc/crit?" are difficult to figure out.
To the person you quoted... he's probably NOT a loot whore. I have fairly good gear and in no way did I ever loot whore. Running 2 raids (split 4 mains, 4 alts where mains get priority on loot) plus the ability to get gear with pages makes gearing up extremely fast now.
Saying "loot-whore" was not completely serious. But if you compare his gear with his WAR mate's gear, you can see a huge gap. This DRK has full i210 except the weapon and one crafted accessory. If he didn't "loot-whore" he most likely got super lucky with loot, and the result is basically the same.
I have thought about using various stats to come up with an estimated item level. In Warcraft Logs the item level is included in the logs, so I was able to make ranking brackets based off item level. So I have the capability... I would just need a good model for item level estimation.Quote:

Unfortunately, ACT doesn't record player stats (at least not to my knowledge) so it's not really a fault of your site.
Another problem that hasn't been mentioned here is DPS cheesing. However, I doubt there will ever be a fix for that.
Let's be real:
http://www.fflogs.com/rankings/7#boss=5001
2537 DPS MNK... best MNK in the world right?
Those SMN #'s are also "cheesed". :P
Well yes, they're leaderboards, they're meant to represent the outliers, the precise opposite of a norm.
This is a problem with people not understanding how it works. To rank super high, is a team-game not an individual effort. Never has been.
When you look at his other parses on other bosses. Yeah probs best MNK in the world currently, despite him 'cheesing Faust'.
Thats because that info is irrelevant, all you should know is that it's possible if you want the same numbers push your class harder and think outside the box.
Hint: You wont get those numbers as drk being full vit spamming 123 aggro rotation while wearing your tanks dont dps headband
Chasing the top of dps leaderboards requires cheesing and or being catered to for every single job. Individual dps numbers correlated but not indicative of the skill level of the player.
Use these leaderboards as a way to gauge the ballpark dps needed to clear certain fights. #1 on the dps leaderboard for your job doesn't mean you're the best player at your job.
As for the OPs question, I would say you need to do at least 650 dps on DRK to not be considered a liability for A3S.
You aren't giving me any "hints", nor are you making a point.
The point is leader boards alter the meta and opinion of a community.
Someone who "cheesed" their DPS by having their party cater to them, or even worse like Bane-ing DoTs onto Faust adds/Titan's bombs, by even a slight amount will make people question if a player "just isn't good enough" if they don't match up to those numbers.
Simply put, DPS leader boards create unrealistic expectations from the community.
No, they're there to set records not to set the meta.
I'm sure most statics are smarter than the average DF player and understand that the numbers listed in that sheet are exceptionally high but it definitely cannot hurt to push yourself to obtain similar numbers.
With that said it's just like our version of the guiness world records, why not have them for amusement?
I've yet to be told ever in the game that my numbers are bad because I'm not doing the same dps as the world record, and if I was ever told that you best believe someone would get made a fool of real quick.
I understand that this is the ffxiv forum, the most negative place on the internet where everyday it's doom and gloom and everyone thinks the world of eorzea is going to end at any second because of the "toxic elitists who poison the game" but even some assumptions get a bit too ridiculous
Thanks for putting words into my mouth and vilifying me.
I'm not sure statics are "smarter than the average DF player" considering ignorant behavior has existed since 2.0.
I was in multiple Turn 5 groups, both in a static and PUGing, that would either chastise or talk behind the back of a DPS who had "low DPS" without taking in account that they were constantly targeted by conflags or the dreadknight. All most people care about are the one simple big number, not any practical application of those numbers.
Believe it or not, when people start becoming accustom to higher and higher numbers as people purposely try to "cheese" their DPS numbers to get on the leader boards they'll expect higher and higher DPS on average; even if it's not a typical number for a certain group composition or for how that group operates in general.
No. They won't expect the "world record" numbers, but if you think they'll even look at numbers below the first 20, which could easily all be "cheesed", you've got another thing coming.
FFXIV isn't a single player game. Comparing DPS numbers in a leader board style outside of a dummy parse on an individual basis is useless.
I should point out that my site (FFLogs) has a big prominent Compare button at the top of all reports. You can use that to search through recent parses with a fight length similar to your own.
Usually people cheesing and doing silly things on farm like add-padding will also have short fight lengths too (because of their high gear level), so by using Compare, you can find fights more like your own.
You can also use Search Fights... at the top of the global rankings pages to filter by raid comp in addition to fight length, so you can look only for compositions similar to your own.
Oh this is your site? Let me tell you this then...
GREAT JOB!
It's nice to have one of these kinds of sites for FF after having them for so long in WoW and even Wildstar. I find them most enjoyable. Even if people draw terribly tenuous conclusions.
I wonder how many people are being driven mad by Alice Lovelytroll's (best name) Faust parse.
