Please do not turn off your chat in dungeons

Enough said.

As a piece of advice, if you encounter a player who consistently fails to communicate, doesn't respond even when using the translator, and stands in boss mechanics despite being told not to, its time to use the kick feature. It doesn't matter how easy the dungeon is. Just kick them, because they'll only make other parties' lives miserable until they learn not to do that.

I can understand it's very frustrating when this happens, I've had a few dungeon runs like this myself. There could be many reasons why a person won't use chat, even if they can't type people can follow instructions, even using translate. And this is nice, polite instruction, not being rude I might add. I had a run where using smilies, emotes, even auto-translate to ask for the tank to pull the dragon out of the poison pools in Brayflox, because of the regen, met with no response or acknowledgement. Or their controller might be playing up, I dunno, stuff happens sometimes :/ I don't like kicking at all, but if something becomes impossible to complete because of a particular mechanic, then well... what does one do?

I always enjoy going into Alexander as Warrior and the other Tank refuses to speak to me at all when i ask whether they want MT or OT, North/South or if they want to swap at certain stacks etc.

Mostly I just turn off party/alliance chat for CTs. If the new 24 raid is anything like it, I'll do the same... But on the other hand, I don't stand in stuff, handle mechanics, etc. Never been kicked for it; no one cares as long as you handle the encounter competently.

OH this dose my nut balls in! I mean why?!? yeah I turn off my HUD chat log but I have noti sound on when someone types in party chat so when I hear it I click back on to see what been said but yeah super annoying when people don't respond.

Like this one time I was doing T11 with my friend, he asked for No noob bonus but low and behold as soon as we entered it, 100 tomes will be rewarded :p so through talking and trial and error we figured it out to be this WHM who turned out to be french so my friend who could speak french tried talking to him, like do you know strat? know what to do etc, in the end the WHM caused us to wipe loads of time and then of course we quited the raid AND then the WHM talks, "I didn't see any form of talking to me"

......there was enough words in there directed to him to fill a mini book.

Three hours later in copperbell mines...

"DON'T KILL THE BOMB!!!!! HOW MANY TIMES TO WE HAVE TO SAY THAT?!?! READ THE CHAT! THE CHAAAAAAT! <se.1><se.1><se.1><se.1>"


So many minds were lost that day...

Some people just don't wanna listen to others drama about DPS it's reason they shut it off.

Also if the person knows the fight and is getting nagged about how they should do their job, people don't wanna listen to that either, they paid the 12-15 dollars and learned the fight probably won if a few times and when someone is telling them what they should or shouldn't do it causes a fight.

Best option is to shut it off and listen to nothing.

Though I am sure people who don't understand fight keep it on so not sure what to tell you.

I rarely if encounter this, wouldn't be enough to turn it off, in fact turning it off aint gonna stop them from trying to tell you how to DPS. The main thing is you take on board what they say to you, not like reading it will cloud your judgement.

I never understood why people don't talk in dungeons. I have ran into a lot of nice/funny people in them. Plus, if no one says anything. Not even a hello. I don't give them coms because I find that disrespectful. I don't care how well you did. I just want a bloody Hello.

Who want's to be social in a social game am i right?.

I keep party chat up at all times, if it starts getting drama-esque I just ignore it. Only chat channel I have permanently off is alliance, 90% of it is pure drama and trolling, no thanks.

Good players can ignore everything that is not important without turning off the chat.

Yeah, I kinda don't get people who turn off their chat inside Instanced Runs, or anyone who doesn't respond to simple question in general either.

I ran A2 normal earlier as a DRG, and I asked if anyone would like to use the gobwalker, I asked it 3 times during the road to the last area, no one responded, only tanks communicating who wants N/S adds. Then someone said, well if no one's responding, I guess the gobwalker's yours, I thought, okay.

Then I walked up to one of the gobwalker, ride it, then this BLM rides it too! And so I thought, hmmm, 2 gobwalker would be overkill, so I dismounted mine, and guess what, he also dismounted his. Great job. Who needs communication, right.

I think some of those players don't even understand the language. It is sad that they don't want to communicate even if they were to know a lil bit of English cuz other players will make fun of them, yell on them, or ignore them.

As I said just some players classify on this category. The other people just don't care about others cuz they are ignored in real life and they want to do the same DMG that was given to them to feel better by doing it on other individuals or they are the ones that don't care and do those things in real life. I don't know why people with zero knowledge of a foreign language want to play it. If I don't understand Japanases why would I dare to play a game that needs/forces me to communicate with another humans being. If it were a single player console l, them yeah why not.

But therein lies your problem and the fault in this method. They won't learn. Kicking them isn't going to solve the problem because with dungeon finders it's too easy to just go get another group.
Quite simply everyone always thinks they're in the right these days. It's penultimate ignorance of the over 9000th level, but it is what it is. Kicking them is just going to breed more toxicity in this community and they're going to have no idea why they were even kicked. So how are they going to learn exactly?

A more productive action in the interest of teaching would be to full halt the run until they respond, or a few minutes go by and then just boot them since they're obviously not paying enough attention to ask, "Why did we stop?"

Kick them because they're fucking the run up, that's fine, I COMPLETELY understand... but don't expect them to learn from it.

So, this is what I want to share about "Netiquette" I learned from playing a MMO with Japanese as the main source of playerbase.
In an instanced runs or when you get in a party using party finder (similar like that) they usually have at least an auto-chat to say hello/greetings.

Now, you might still say, you don't wanna greet foreign people because you don't greet others when you're in the city, I don't either, I don't greet people in Mor Dhona/Idyllshire/Limsa.

But when the game forces you, actually, you force yourself to use DF/PF to get an instanced runs, all 4 of you are stuck together in that 1 instance until the run ends, This is not the same context as greeting someone in town.

Tbh, I personally don't care either about greetings, I'll just automatically assume someone is more/less friendly from whether they actually use that small shortcut to say hello. what, it's only pressing [Enter]+[Tab]+[2]+[3] = {Hello!}

The first couple of times when I first got into dungeons, I notice that I don't really look at the party chat that much. Just until a stop for certain mechanics and whatnot only. Then, I got into trouble because I didn't notice the chat that was explaining more of the boss' mechanics so we wiped.

It wasn't because I didn't choose to look, it just seems that the fight took all of my attention.

In order to remedy that, I just put a notification sound for Party chat, the same as when someone PM you.

I would like to suggest to SE to put a notification sound for party chat as default, so people actually notice it.

That's was one of the first things I did when I started playing. Nobody told me about it but I wanted a way to be alerted to something appearing in party chat - after all, 99% of the time it's important. I also always greet everyone, ask who is new (if it appears) and congratulate on a finished run. It doesn't cost anything, I'm not paying by the second or byte sent. You wouldn't enter a meeting with three other new people and all just sit silently until it ends!

This helped me out a ton too. I came from another game where we used VIOP and addons for raids, etc. so there was little to no need to look at the text box in the bottom left hand corner. Everything I needed to know came up as a warning in the center of the screen with a sound warning (run away little girl, run away!), or it was communicated through VIOP. So I put a sound notification on party chat.

The only problem with this is that many fights have variations on strategies. For example, in A4 some parties have the healers take the orbs in phase 1, some some have the OT do it, and I've seen a few DPS run for them too. Not knowing which strat you're using can cause wipes even if you do know what you're doing. Too many people going for the orbs all at once leads to deaths just as surely as not enough people going for them. I know I frequently queue up for duties in a premade of 5-7 people (all in voice chat), so we expect that the 1-3 pugs will at least have the decency to listen to the strategy the rest of us are using.

Indeed. T9 was a bitch for this - there's so many variations of all the mechanics in there and when I started PFing it I found that some people had very different approaches to stuff compared to my static. But yeah, that's raiding - in dungeons this is less of an issue but annoying all the same.

Yeahhhhhh, we ran into awful problems with divebombs when we started PF'ing T9 too. We learned how to mark divebombs in a way that leaves the waymarks on the field (you end up with calls like "Right of A/Left of A"), but most of the pugs we picked up expected A/B to be marked on each divebomb. We didn't have anyone that had ever marked them that way, and trying to explain the method we learned ended up disastrous a few times when they just didn't get where they were supposed to go to make it work. More than once it ended with someone telling us that we didn't know what we were doing and ragequitting over a difference in strat. :/

Same here, in my static we used this and just marked A at 2, B at 4 and C at 7 o clock and had 10 o clock as the permanent second divebomb area because at this point we all knew where to stand for Golems and Heavensfall anyway. :p Then I checked dragon positions and called out which marker to use. Less marking and more reacting for everyone!

... Needless to say the pugs didn't like this. :(

I think you would, if you want to team up with those foreign people to do things like... fighting the evil mayor or sealing the city-haunting demon, don't you think so too?

I think it's common to greet ppl, who do right now the same thing at the same place to achieve the same goal by working together, don't you agree?

Here it's even common to greet ppl e.g. in waiting room at the doctors. Or to greet ppl, working in the same company (even if there are 1000s of ppl working) just by saying "Hello" at least when passing by.

I always say hello at the start and give my thanks at the end, but I can fully understand why people aren't very chatty during the dungeon as a whole. Games with fast-paced, busy combat like FFXIV don't really give a lot of leeway for casual conversation when you're in the middle of fighting something and you're almost always fighting something in a duty. It varies by class and role, but generally if you have time to sit there and type out coherent sentences that don't have anything to do with mechanics there's probably something else you could be doing to perform your role better. I personally find it irritating when people start screwing up a lot and prolonging the run because they're too busy being Chatty Cathy instead of paying proper attention.

That and people don't usually have anything interesting to say anyway.

There would likely be a lot more people paying attention to party chat in dungeons if there were a lot less people filling up the chat box with useless, annoying call outs macroed into each and every action they take.

It doesn't take long to press the center pad, X, Triangle, then press "h" and "i" on the soft keyboard. You can do it while on the black loading screen before the dungeon. Alternately, you can make a macro in probably a minute or two that says whatever greeting you want to say, and hit that on entering the dungeon. Or, press options, left, left, emotes, and emote whatever you'd like as a greeting. Dishing out full sentences is one thing, but being polite is not out of reach for any PS4 player.

Unless it's an EX Primal or Alexander savage, you can pretty much get away with no chat on everything else.
