What other creatures are too big?
...Really?
The only monster I have a problem with is dreamtoads. They are WAY to big for being a regular monster. Besides they look silly trying to move around and clipping on everything around them.
the Dreamtoad need to be little smaller
but I'm fine with Gnat
I'm the only with problem with gnat? :(
I'm not going to complain about the size of Dreamtoads and Gnats.
I'm going to complain about how he complains about everything.
Just kidding!
Giant mobs = more fun to make dead mobs.
Giant mobs = EPIC SCREENSHOTS
the mobs are cool. You should be happy instead of complaining.
What's wrong with gnat? http://www.ffxivpro.com/screenshots/1847
First time seeing what a gnat looks like.
If I saw something like that in rl I'd need a new pair of trousers.
Good thread.
Enough time passed since the original mob up-scaling that we can now give some grounded feedback on the scale of mobs.
Here are my recommendations:
Dream Toads [-30%] targeting/clipping issues.. and their size doesn't seem to reflect their power
Efts/Salamanders [-20%] targeting/clipping issues
Gnats [-25%] They look a bit strange at their current size
Marmots [-10%] Tails look low quality as they were originally designed to be very small.
Crabs [-10%] Often fight these in groups, would be nice if they were slightly smaller
Raptors [+10%] I think these guys should be a bit larger.
Antling [+10%] These could also use a slight size boost.
Overall, it would be nice if mobs were scaled proportionate to their level (if they do it now, it's very slight). I don't mind if a dreamtoad is 30ft high as long as is over lvl 99 -- and we only have to fight one at a time. It also makes sense that a lvl 1 Marmot should be visibly smaller than a lvl 50 Dormouse.
The moon mice for Dalamund vary in size depending on their level. I liked that, it kinda said "As you get older, you get bigger and stronger".
Crabs could do with being a bit smaller though, sometimes I find large groups of them clustered together and it can make visibility + targetting a bit of a pain.
Well, perhaps the scaling is already part if the system. I think it should be opened up a bit more on the smaller end to really play up the differences. We certainly don't need to go bigger.
Although, there is a Leve in Iron Lake where you fight a bunch of Jellyfish that are low lvl and one that is high and there is no visible difference in their size...
SIDENOTE:
This is really nit-picky, but I'm not a big fan of the mobs with 'dentures'. Namely the Gnats and Coblyns. They look too cartoony with their human-like teeth.
so while ppl complain about getting to the real issues of the game, these type of threads pop up... eh /shrug /gowiththeflow
given dreamtoads hp in leves and behests (they die in a few hits) it's not incredibly logical that they are so big. the gnats are actually kind of tough though. i see their size fitting them well.
i feel like i'm reading a tabloid and bickering about how fat/skinny others are.
Real issues can be found in other threads. Meanwhile, these kinds of threads are used to incorperate ideas and suggestions for the future. This is good, it shows the players have enough faith in S.E that there will indeed be a future for this game in which these could be incorporated into.
All except the OP, who was originally making this thread to troll until everyone took it off him and started talking about more important things.
Toads are WAY too big, they were gigantic enough before. It's rough targeting when they just block everything with their big glaring eyes. The other enemies are fine now that I've gotten used to them.
IIRC I thought the enemy size change was to make them easier to see/target/see which one you're targeting before you could click on names to target.
If we were to look at design for a moment to go with size...
I would request that sewer moles are redesigned to look less like the ass end of an ass. Because that's exactly what they look like on both sides at the moment! :p
Fat toad is fat
You know, I may not agree with you on other stuff, but I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one. Personally, I wish they'd scale down all monsters to where they were initially. Yes it's a fantasy game, but there's a limit to how far even fantasy elements can believably be taken. Squirrels should not come up to my torso. Dodos shouldn't be large enough for me to saddle up and ride (same for Djiggas!). Etc., etc.
Larger mobs don't enhance my sense of excitement. It was apparently an easy change, so could we please, please just revert back to what it was originally?
Would Sin have been any more/less exciting if he had been smaller?
Would Shitake have been any more/less bad-ass if he had been as tall as Cloud?
Would fighting the Weapons in FF7 been less epic if they had been smaller? I'll answer this one.... yes
Sometimes you just need to kill giant things..... because it's a giant thing!
Sin wasn't a frog, nor was he something I would expect to be smaller. He was fine as is. I'm not asking that they make those flying imperial mech-type things smaller, just things that I would naturally not expect to be the size of a house (toads) or myself (bugs, some birds, etc.). In my opinion, the increase in size stretched out otherwise nice textures into something not quite as appealing, also.
i think in a fantasy world it is ok to have giant toads and gnats. Maybe easting giant gnats is what make the toads so big.
Also i think that mobs should be sized according to zone or rank. If they are gonna reuse the same mobs every make the sizes dif at least. So for lower rank areas, sure make them smaller, make everything smaller. Also i want an NM marmot that is bigger then a pieste, joking, no seriously though.
Well, a squirrel that could HURT you ought to be at least that big.Quote:
Squirrels should not come up to my torso.
Re: Dreamtoads, the only real difference I would suggest is to make it so that their tongue attack that grabs you, swallows you. Then you could fight it from the inside while taking poison damage.
An astute suggestion sir but with 2 minor drawbacks
That would be very hard/damned near impossible to impliment into an MMO, plus constantly being swallowed by every single dreamtoad you attempt to solo could get slightly annoying.
Another nitpicking thread from you?
Stop the presses.
Guys.... It's a game.. Who cares that a mouse gets up to your torso and stuff..
Thats the part called Fantasy... Imagination (if it is spelled correct lol)
Don't forget chigoes. I thought that it was fun in FFXI where chigoes were invisible except for some small dots that you could barely see. It was fun because you had to be careful to avoid them and unsuspecting players would get killed. It was slightly dangerous.
They are far too large now.
In real life the chigoe is the smallest known flea at 1mm in size.

Currently the carrion chigoe resembles more of a GIGANTIC termite than any type of chigoe.
I think things could stand to be a little bigger... My lala is barely pint sized on my 28" screen @ 1920x1200.

skip to 39seconds for giant marmot
