Dragon Quest X

Dragon Quest X was just announced at a Square Enix event, It appears to be an MMO. Does anyone know?

Edit 2: Now Idk! seems more like Monster Hunter online than MMO, also the game is still on the Wii AND wiiU.

Article doesn't seem to indicate its an MMO, bu mentions co-operative playing - maybe out of date, looks like its for the Wii?

I should clarify, it wasn't just announced, that happened a few E3's ago but from the Live feed I am watching, the game has changed from its original annoucement.

Now this is something I can get into. I think we all hoped IX would be MMO-ish or have up to 4 people play or something when it was first announced. I hope this is MMO but it may end up being like a Secret of Mana type. Let's hope SE don't screw up the DQ franchise.

Edited my original post, It looks maybe like it will be like Monster Hunter's online perhaps.

DQ9 multiplayer was a lot of fun. Hopefully we can have multiple people play on one console.

Confirmed for both Wii and WiiU.

I think it is going to be a lot like how Monster Hunter works. That is... Online but not an MMO, also its not just for Wii, it is also for WiiU, and the WiiU will be an upgraded version but share the same content.

Dragon Quest X seems like it will be along the same lines at Dragon Quest IX, in the co-op part, but more like Phantasy Star Online/Universe as well...... Still a bit hard to tell at this point. As for "JP onry" I really wish people would quit with those types of comments, they are of bad taste and childish.

For the longest we had DQ 1/2/3/6/7/8 in English, then they remade 4/5/6 on DS and gave them to us, now we have all 9 DQ games in English, it is a bit silly to think that we wont get this one.

For the record I will be getting the Wii U version, if I get it that is, I will wait and see what it will turn out to be in the end.

DQ games always go to the more popular JP consoles for more money/so more people can play them. It's why 9 was on DS in the first place.

Oh and this also confirms those rumor's pre FFXIV announcement from the SE employee that got fired and then blabbed that they were working on a DQ MMO. Again this article was back in like 2007 so I am not going to find it, but now we know. just as FFXI: online was ps2 DQX: online (as per title) is going Wii and WiiU.

Right now this is the only reason why I might be getting a Wii U, I've been playing DQ IX and VIII lately, and I love DQ and its weird spells. Honestly can't wait. I read somewhere (couldn't find it currently) it was the main page for the game translated. It seems you will be able to everything in the game solo if you want. Personally I like to keep games like this around for when me and my boyfriend want to hop on a game for instant gratification when we're not playing XIV.

That's not an elf, that's an ogre.

Anyway, usual fugly toryama character design, and wii/wii U onry. Nothing to see here. Smart move on SE's part, this way it won't compete much with their other MMOs.

I know some people will jump on you for that statement but I 100% agree. Never been a huge fan of his art style, just not appealing to me. Also lol WiiU. I got a Wii back at launch thinking it would be cool and innovative, I was severely disappointed. Almost all the best games for the Wii can be played with a controller lol. Nintendo's not going to fool me again with this one!

Lol yeah. I'm reviewing xenoblade chronicles right now, and I can easily say it's one of the best if not the best game out for the Wii at the moment (not to mention one of the best RPGs this generation). Playing it with the wiimote+nunchuck is an unsightly pain in the rear.

And people can jump on me all they want. If i wanted to play a fugly cartoonish MMORPG with graphics from 2004, i'd save myself the trouble of waiting for a localization of this one and play wow.

I myself honestly think it should not be on Wii, but just WiiU, I am sure they will be the same game, but Wii Us will look a lot better.

Also Wii not innovative? Really? then why did both MS and Sony jump on the motion train then. There is a reason I collect Nintendo stuff, they always try something different, to be different, to think outside the box. I own many different consoles, but my favorite will still always be the NES.

BTW do people realize how insulting the "onry" comments are?

Sorry to burst a big bubble here but you don't need more than a screenshot (and plenty video footage) to judge a game's character design, especially considering how well known (and incredibly fossilized) the style of the character designer in question is. The game is horribly cartoonish on the wii, and you can bet your monthly wages for a year that it won't change style on the Wii U. It'll have higher resolution textures, maybe the cel shading will be a tad more refined, but there's only so far you can bring cel shading, especially when you have to mantain parity of content.

If i want cel shading, I'll take a game with cel shading supported by good character design (like the one by Kosuke Fujishima and Mutsumi Inomata in Tales of Xillia, both completely obliterate toriyama in artistry, style and appeal), not this piece of crap that seem to be designed to appease five year olds.

I don't care for your taste in style.

Not everything has to be hyper detailed or realistically textured. There's really nothing wrong with a cartoonish look.
I can understand if you don't care for it, that's fine, we're all entitled to our tastes. But to say the art is inferior because it's cartoony or simplified is outrageous.

A cartonish look needs to be supported by good character design and art, like again, the one by Kosuke Fujishima and Mutsumi Inomata (that both kick toriyama's rear in circles around the park under every point of view) in Tales of Xillia.

Art styles shouldn't evolve based on what everyone else is doing. Otherwise you get standard run of the mill styles you see with every other kawai uguu detsu nee~ anime and game that comes out of japan. Akira Toriama and Eiichiro Oda are currently my favorite artists because of their original styles. And even though Toriama's style uses consistent designs tropes, they still look great.
And don't dis Dragonball dude, that was a fun adventure. Z was alright, but only through the manga. The anime dragged on too long.

Art styles normally evolve because artists normally get better at drawing with time. Of course that's not the case with Toriyama, considering he's never been good to begin with, and he's so fossilized on his extremely simplified designs that there's no room for improvement.

There's nothing wrong with his work. And to claim his style hasn't improved at all is a bit ignorant. His drawings are more dynamic (especially in character poses, it used to be they would often stand stiff and when not taking action, and his smaller characters where unusually potato like), he has a much stronger sense of staging and his characters emote much more clearly.
