If anything, that makes the RNG madness less aggravating. It still doesn't justify the ridiculously high HQ threshold.

If it only returns 1 FC3, its better to just use reclaim.

I think this is a decent middle ground. It lowers the cost of an nq, while still discouraging a simple brute force approach.

Personally, I found the process of acquiring the lucis tools to be far too trivial, due to the lack of risk involved.

It's something. The previous tier (the Darksteel Hooks, Darksteel Wire etc.) at least had a purpose in the form of Artisan Tools/Specs for desynth. I'd have preferred they went this route instead of going with the Lucis refund button.

I think it's plenty justified. Reaching the next level of crafting recipies SHOULD require you push your limits as a crafter. You should demonstrate that you know how to get the most out of your limited CP pool, know how to take calculated risks, and know when to fold your hand when it's clear things aren't going to work out.

The techniques you learn while wrestling with these insanely high requirements are really useful, too, when crafting 4* and even 3* recipes. While it was painful at first, overall I found the Masterbook II test to be one of the most rewarding experiences I've had as a crafter.

Agreed. While the books might seem to be overwhelming in the beginning, you'll need to use the exact same techniques to master 4* recipes (aside from the baiting part, which isn't always required for the tokens either).

The challenge for both the master book ii turn ins and 4* recipes is to effectively build an IQ stack of 11. If you can manage that, both are easily doable, although you might end up with a few nq tokens, which can be exchanged for the supra if you haven't gotten it yet.

(Needs 3 ToTs up, 10 iq stacks under good byregot, 11iq stacks under normal byregot) will finish with more than 60% success probability. So, if thre are 11 iq stacks it may be better to finish and return 1 piece of fc3 from Talan if failed to hq

Gettting all 2nd master books was the most disgusting experience in my life in this game. While doing the rotation I noticed something, the game favors a lot your failure. To get one single materia with 11% needs more than 30 tryes while missing with 90% happend amazing hundreds of time doing the rotations. I don't even want to talk about Hasty Touch, the skill talks for itself. Reclaim also is a failed more often with 801 Difficulty itens than any before, 3 to 5 times it failed for me, costing a small foturne with FD-III. I hope the next books are not this horrible, because I will suffer this horrible experience again.

But that's the whole point behind manual II tokens..
It's to provide a challenge that not everybody can beat.


That's like complaining that T13 is too hard and you wish they never release another end-game pve content beyond HM level of difficulty.

At least with crafting, you can throw money at it and eventually come out on top.

There is a significant difference beetwin Turns and Craftings, its some small factor called "Lucky". I particulary don't see luck as a factor of difficult, specialy when its not even luck, its RNG based (which by the way, has a Loop to failure). Turns needs you get an strategic party, thats all you need to success (not talking about loot, thats also luck). Luck is not a form of difficult, its a form to make you lose with something that you don't have control. Don't mind crafting any hell out of anything, probably in the next patch I will complain like hell and still do the things anyway....

Edit: Sorry if I seemed like that I don't like the game contents. I love this game. Also my posts where a little off the topic. I saw only a small change, at least now you can do something with the normal quality stuff, but the Reclaim is more recommended in any skill fail situations, although I can say Reclaim fails lot more with this recipes than any other, don't want do know why.

I'm not sure whether you were particularly unlucky, but for my 8 master books, I found that on average, I got 2 NQ tokens along with the 3 required HQ tokens (got 0 NQs a few times and 4 NQs was my worst) and lost 0-2 fc3s to reclaim failure. Losing a couple of fc3s would probably be considered normal.

One thing to consider is that the more you use reclaim, the more fc3s you'll possibly lose. If you're consistently losing lots of fc3s each time, there probably is an issue with the method you're using.

Also Piece by Piece with 90% of sucess failed very often, hundreds of times doing the recipes (my rotation uses pbp without sh2). Man its 10% chance of failing! I could not place a materia in a slot with 11% after 30 tryes! I like this game, but I hate it RNG, I have almost sure it loops to failure, by my own experience. My rotation gives me 86% of HQ if it worked as planned (I don't want to remeber how many times I got NQ out of 86% of HQ, it make me want to cry).
What I wanted to say with my post was that I don't like luck based work, its a nightmare when the RNG of the game is looping to failure.

Edit: Please note that even after all that bad luck I did not quit playing as crafter, I moved on and I will do the same to everything horrible SE throw over me. I just want to have the same luck as you guys have.

I commend your perseverance to stick it through but to me, it sounds like you're using a rotation that has a very high failure rate.. I don't know why you have to reclaim so often. In my case, bad luck would get me to complete the synthesis and fail you on the baiting part and leaving me with a bunch of nq's.

Did you use Rumination Reclaim? I've never used Rumination because of not having enough cross class slots, maybe you're missing an essential skill, manual II token was the one thing where I wished I had more cross class slots to use.. It does require everything you've got.

I think I've lost 14 FC3s on my WVR because of bad luck, but that's in the form of nq brocades, not lost from reclaim. Also, it was an isolated incident, not across the board for all my manual IIs.

My stats as a GSM for sample was Craftsmanship: 494 (504 with f.company buff) and control: 331 (341 with f.company buff). The link follows my rotation:

I just need one ToT before the second CZ, all ToT besides that add more chance for me to use an extra buff at the end (like Innovation). The problems I have described above, don't need to remeber it again.

It's the chance of hitting ALL your quality touches without failing. So in the rotation posted above, it's .8 x .8 x .8 x .8... etc.

and in your synthesis chance, it's .9 x .8 x .8 x 1
correlating to PbP, RS x RS under SH2, CS2.

Btw, what I would change about your Wootz ingot rotation is that you have no bait step. Since Byregots on Good vs. Normal makes a World of difference, you want to leave 2 CS2 left before you finish so you can use one of the CS2 as a free bait. Also, your second PbP nets you less progress than a RS. Since RS is 0 CP, I think it's worth putting another RS under SH2 and save the CP.



Without messing with your rotation too much, this is what I'd use, it requires 1 ToTT but that's pretty much because of Innovation, without it, you're short 1 CP which you could just meld your off hand for if you'd prefer 0 RNG. Or you could just use Byregots without SH.

Thats a cool change in the Rotation, thanks. I never got any problems using Byregots without SH, incredibly it fail just once doing the Master Books 2 (PbP failed much more, don't know why). My objective in the rotation conception was trying to avoid as many ToT as possible, since its totaly random condition. Exelent condition I don't even count, while doing the Master Books 2 I didn't see any Exelent condition in the final parts of the rotation. I don't have problem adapatating the rotation to the situation of the turn, my problem, as I have stated before, was the very poor RNG I got. Its too much abnormal, I can't trust in the game. I don't think FFXIV has a fair RNG system, I have the utmost sure that it loop to failures.

No. In my masterbook 2 simulations 76 or other amount of % means nothing if you hit >10 touches. It seems to me that it doesn't know about iq11 cap.

To be honest, it's not RNG that was causing your problems, but from simply pressing the wrong buttons at the wrong times.

I've said it before, but nobody should be blindly following any of the dozens of poor "rotations" on here/reddit etc, if they want to unlock master II books with as little waste as possible.

Learn how to craft manually and situationally and you'll find the "RNG" element is trivial.

Perhaps you thought that I was using macro? No, my rotations are totaly manual, I adapt the them based on situation. All that go as waste because of the poor game RNG. I know every situation on which skill should be use, I can turn bad to good based only upon condition, but it don't matter if the RNG don't help. Hasty fails like hell, Reclaim, even skills with 90% sucess fails almost all time. Don't matter how good you know your rotation, everything falls to rng to be good or bad. Pressing the wrong buttons at wrong times? What was that about? You take me for senile who presses random buttons and don't know what I'm doing? Or perhaps you are saying thats theres a magical time to press buttons? I really felt insulted here by your comment.

That alone tells me that you were making things far more difficult for youself, i.e. making your "luck" far worse.

That's the nature of these crafts. To get more than that you need at least one of the following:

1. Buff byregot's with great strides, ingenuity 2 and innovation (I can confirm that with a lucis tool you get around 74%).
2. Land more than 10 touches and/or land a hasty on an excellent somewhere in the middle of the craft.
3. Land byregot's on good or excellent

Well, I didn't wanna get into your token rotation, but since we're talking about it.. I can see some minor areas that could use work on and all scarebearz is saying is that you CAN eliminate much of the RNG by improving your rotation.
Also, you say that you like to minimize your dependence on Good and Excellent conditions, but the fact is, you need to squeeze every little one of those you can get. The way I see it, Grabbing all the ToTT I can is a back up plan for when my hasties fail more than they should. So if I get enough ToTT, I can get another round of Manipulation and get 3 more tries at it. This isn't an e-peen measuring contest, so I hope my intentions aren't misconstrued. But if your rotation could use an improvement, why not try and learn from other people?



So to prove this point, I had one class which I did not have the token for, CUL. I just made a video of myself making the tokens.. and well.. hmm.
This was done with 399 Craftsmanship and 390 Control. regular old Chantico and Artisan off hand. Which made my synthesis rotation a little awkward. I should've probably bought artisan's frypan to make my life easier.

My results are as follows.

Craft 1: Messed up the rotation, made a few mistakes and ended up with 18%. HQ Lucky

Craft 2: Made no major mistakes (should be the case 100% if you're focused, I was distracted with typing out my thoughts and well, my mind wanders..) Ended with 90%. HQ

Craft 3: Probably what your average craft would look like, didn't make any blaring mistakes, but failed a few hasties, failed a Rapid Synth etc.. But it was still going pretty good, my driver crashed at 80 dura, 44 CP, 4 charges of SH2, and 8 IQ stacks.. Wouldn't have trouble getting to 11 stacks by finisher, good finisher would've put me at over 60%. Should've been hq, but my PC crashed, so I lost my 2 FC3s here.

Craft 4: Starts in Vid #2. I forget to use Ingenuity.. -_- (told ya I'm mistake prone) Got teased by Excellent on 10 stacks with only 20CP left.. Had to go with Byregots on Normal with no GS. 15%. Got HQ, Luck. Then I realized I used NQ mats (another mistake). If I did it right, even with Normal non-GS Byregots, it would've been 26%.

Craft 5: Made some minor mistakes, not as bad as last one.. IQ10, baited Byregots on Good. 26% HQ.

Craft 6: Got an Excellent condition early on IQ9, so just hit it for 38%. HQ.

So what is the point of all these?


1. I make a crap ton of mistakes.. I usually have to get myself into crafting mindset beforehand but this time, the recording was distracting me quite a bit.. got a lucky HQ on 18%

2. Craft 1 is utter crap, I made a lot of mistakes because I was just coming up with the rotation off the top of my head trying to check if it'll work and what not.. I got lucky with this one.. 18%

3. Crafts #2 is ideal if everything goes right, you'll hit over 70% with a Good bait. In this case, I hit 90% with Excellent. It came early, if it came at the right time, that would've been 100%

4. Craft 3 and 5 are average (25-30%). Good bait not necessary to hit that range of hq %.

5. Craft 4, well.. I used an nq relish for the craft by mistake.. so I'm 1494 quality short on the final product which would push the hq% up to 26%. 26% with Normal Byregots, if I was able to bait, that would've been over 60% as well.

6. Even with all my mishaps, I ended all my crafts with 10IQ minimum (except the early Excellent on IQ9, but who wouldn't :)). I didn't have to reclaim a single time because I couldn't get enough stacks. In fact, I already reach my point of no return by the time I get into my baiting phase because I don't have enough CP for a Reclaim after I pop my GS.

7. 2 CS2 to finish gives me a free bait chance. Refer to Craft #5, I hit Good on my third attemp as my GS is about to run out.



So all in all, I made 5 HQ and lost 2 FC3s due to a dc. didn't make a single NQ but that was because of luck. If I don't count the 18% and 16% HQ, that usually doesn't happen. I would've ended with 3HQ and 2 NQ. Still giving me enough chances to get HQs before having extras on my supra turn-in and... CRAP and I just realized as I'm typing this that I only needed 3 HQ for the manual...

So... I made 2 extra HQs and lost 2 FC3s from the dc... so I lost 6 FC3s overall -_-


Anyway, I just made the video to show that manual token crafting is not all about being at the mercy of RNG.. If you've had to reclaim 20 times to get just one book:

a. your rotation has some serious flaws if you're constantly reclaiming due to low IQ stack.
b. you're being too cautious if you're rumination reclaiming because you can't bait Byregots on Good.. Not having your supra helps here of course, since you have 5 nq to fall back on..

Crafters can't be timid, crafters have to be bold and take chances, spend the money, reinvest, earn more money etc...

If you want to chalk it up to my good luck, by all means, this one did go pretty lucky considering all the mistakes I made. But, with my subpar gear 399 craft / 390 control and all the mistakes, how much bad luck on top of it would it take until I have to reclaim dozens of times? It can happen sure, but certainly hard to replicate for every single one of my crafts 7 more times..

My point is.. If you're having to reclaim because you fail one or two 80% actions, instead of being at the mercy of RNG, you need to look for other ways to get around the failure. On craft #3, I still failed plenty of times, but I was well on my way to 11 IQ stacks by my finisher and looking at about 70% hq with a good bait. ~30% without. Pity my driver crapped out before I could finish it though :(




P.S.. Crap, still can't believe I made 2 extra HQs... now I'm not so happy that the 16% and 18% gave me HQs.

speaking of numbers, 42% is all you need to get 3 out of total 8 crafts (5 nq supra tokens included) unless you just have terrible luck.

I see
- 60-70% hq with iq11 and byregot under ingen 2 and normal condition.
- 50% hq with iq10 and good
Iq9 i reclaim.
For rotation with 12 Ht iq10-11 happens not very often, so - many reclaims.
I also tried to use rotation with 13 Ht (lucis, PbP PbP sh2 ingen2 RS RS progress sequence) - it gives iq11 often enough, but it needs 1 more ToT to have enough CP - this is not often, so - many reclaims too.

Yes, imo the most important thing for manual II tokens.. or any craft in general is to increase the number of your HTs. In the videos, I think I average 13 HT every craft and that's why I have no problem getting enough IQ stacks to bait almost every time. Considering I needed to use 6 Progress steps to finish the craft, if my Craftsmanship was a little higher, I think I could've fit in 1 more HT and almost guarantee 11 stacks every time.

13 x .8 = 10.4 You only need 10 successful touches to get 11 IQ stacks.

It may not look like much but that 1 or 2 extra HT does make a difference

EDIT: Uploaded 2 more videos, Terminus Putty and Tinker's Calm.. both with 0 quality. On those I did have some serious bad luck (failed 6 hasties and a rapid synth on my first putty craft, rest weren't too great either) but it should go to show what ToTT can do for you when RNG decides to screw with you.. Of course, if you fail HT AND don't get any good conditions, you are truly out of luck. But that rarely happens.

Yep, it boils down to statistics. The main idea is to improve your odds during the craft by using excess CP to increase your number of touch attempts or to reduce rng. What you choose to do could differ between crafts depending on what hand you've been dealt or your starting conditions. There isn't much skilled required, but you do have to get past the learning curve first.

If you design a static rotation that minimizes the use of tricks of the trade (ie. use waste not ii), you'll find that you won't have enough CP for either, effectively turning crafting into a game of pure luck.

Iq 10 - you will need byregot under good condition an will get near 50%
Iq 11 - you may hope to get 50% and more with byregot under normal condition. Check quality progress - 12% and more will mean 60%, 15% - 80... These numbers are very approx.

HQ% is accurate, calculated from quality. Quality comes from calculating 100% success on NORMAL condition. So in above example, if you successfully hit 9 HTs without any buffs on all normal condition, you'll be looking at 1179 quality. give or take a few points. If you'd like, try that with 9 Basic Touches under SH2 to ensure 100% accuracy and you'll get very similar numbers. HT and BT have same effectiveness.

Total progress success is the chance of all your progress actions succeeding. In the above example, you have 2 PbPs at 90% and a Rapid Synth under SH2 for 80% and 2 CS2 at 100%.

So 90% x 90% x 80% x 100% x 100% yields = 64.8% That's why the simulator gives 65% on that


Same for total quality success except that one calculates your quality touches, so total of 9 HTs at 80% under SH2 yields 80% times 9 which is 13.42% and that's why the simulator shows 13%.

Tbh, that's just superfluous information.. I suppose if you have two different rotation that result in very similar hq%, looking at the summary below would help you determine which is a better rotation by using the higher success % rotation.

Yes, simulator counts ALL HTs as success, in real life it's not so. When number of used ToTs is more than 10 this may desorient crafter. For example - in simulator rotation with 13 HT abd GS INGEN2 byregot under normal condition will show iq11 and ~80% of quality. But in real craft Iq11 with normal byregot will mean 47-64% in most cases - depending on number of failed ToTs and poor conditions with very few quality progress.
