I went on break last January because my college work load was to great to continue playing and I needed to be focussed. I returned a few months ago during summer and I have noticed a major issue for returning players.
Its very very, difficult to get competent groups together for specific old content that locks out new content.
Specifically fights like Thornmarch EX and T5. I feel like I am being punished for not being around when this content was the bleeding edge as no one on my server seems even remotely interested in doing these contents.
Of course they are on DF, but you have better odds of getting struck by lightning than you do of completing certain content on DF. Even removing the restriction of completing Bowl of Embers EX doesn't seem to be making it any easier to form a group for Thornmarch EX. Its just literally ignored.
Which pretty much makes me feel that I am going to completely miss the boat on the The Striking Tree EX as well.

I think you're being harsh on PUGs. Of course not every party is a winning party but common. Based on my attempts they are no worst then 50/50

In pretty much the exact same situation. I can't see what a thread about it is going to achieve for you , however. I'd love to form a static for all the stuff that was hot while I was inactive, but people are just not interested. Would love a mog neck on my Drg, to relieve the strain on my weekly soldiery, but yh, DF is what I'm left with. While it isn't terrible, it is sad to see groups that maybe would clear it if they persist, disband after a few wipes.
You gotta be tackling hard content when it's in fashion in FF. I wanna get titan EX down so bad, but my exp friends look the other way, as if it's a terrible experience they rather not re-live xD. I wanna form a coil 2 static, but nobody even sends a tell when I set a recruitment PF up xD I'll be lucky if I get on to coil 3 before coil 4 comes out....( yh ik theres no coil 4, but w/e comes xD ) -

Join an FC which is willing to help returning players. The amount of times we still run T5 and primal ex' to get people into SCoB or get a shot at the latest primals for that sole reason is very high. I wouldn't even bother with PUGs for content such as T5. Even most partyfinder setups are doomed to fail.

That's my problem with this system. You have to do things while they are new and if you take a break from the game or fall behind then you are basically stuck outside permanently unless the stars finally align in DF and you can move into current content.
If the population has no interest in helping, the lock out creates an impenetrable wall for new or returning players.
Just don't lock people out at all is what I am asking. Its pointless if it creates a hurtle for otherwise capable players. -

You have like half a year in between tiers to do content and get gear.
If you can't bother to do that your prob need a game with a cash shop. -

With Coil, it wants you to clear the first one before 2nd coil because it's a story thing, one follows the other. For extreme mode primals I don't see why they should need to be done in any order... beating Ramuh (story) should be the only requirement to unlocking Ramuh (extreme) I think. As for competent players abandoning old content, hopefully things like echo and adjustments make it possible to beat them with a DF party... at the moment that is not the case, but maybe eventually.

But not many want to do battles like Thornmarch EX. It drops a i100 neck easily replaced quickly with hunts unless it specifically has stats you want. May be its just my server, but Leviathan server treats this primal with a pessimism like none seen before. Its very hard to get a group together. In DF at peak hours I will wait upwards to 40 mins just to get a group formed.
However people LOVE weapons, so its very easy to get LEX completed.
In other words, Thornmarch EX has become very undesirable and its stupid that is a unlock requirement to advance to The Striking Tree EX. -

The reply I recieved is exactly my problem with this community. No one cares and no one wants to help. That's why having a lock out is stupid. Its miserable for new and returning players who want their shot at high end content, but have to scrounge and beg like biblical lepers to get help. -

As someone who has worked a full time job, a full time graduate student, and a part time husband (all at the same time), I have managed to clear all the content in the game, I have zero sympathies for your time management issues/learning disability.
If you can't find a group of people you can get along with that can help you catch up, your the problem. It is that simple.
That said.
To catch up all you need to do is farm hunts / run roulette's / run ST until your full 110. You don't even need a group. -
