Do you think people should be able to ride mounts (specifically Chocobos at this stage) within the city limits, or should they be barred access?
Both options seem logical, but one is obviously more restrictive than the other.

Imo keep it like all final fantasy games and only to city limits, or atleast you can only go to chocobo stables on them.
Given that people complain about every little detail, I'm pretty sure they'll be rideable in town, dungeons and under lava or whatever else people will want.
ya lets make them fly too
Well won't it seem kind of odd that once you approach a certain point the chocobo starts having a minor conniption and goes "sorry, I am not programmed to walk on paved roads... does not ... compute ".
It just kills whatever attachment you could form with a piece of programming because you realise it's just that. Programming. Bad programming.
I personally don't see how the Development Team would be able to prevent chocobos riders from entering towns. But then again, they do manage to keep rain out of cities, so I guess it's theoretically possible to extend that game logic to chocobos.
I want to be able to ghost ride my chocobo.
i want chocobo to carry my items. and want chocobo armors! !!!
Chocobo knight for the win!!!!
Everyone says the game needs more of a final fantasy feel, chocobos have never been able to go in towns or dungeons, which is why I say they shouldnt beable to now, we dont need chocobos in towns so dont allow it imo
Its a quite easy if/else statement in the programming, basicly if a pc is on foot allow entery else insert an invisible wall.
Or they could say if pc is on foot allow entery else open chocobo menu/prompt to dismount
Not only ^THIS but wouldn't the addition of rideable chocobos in the cities make them even laggier?
As far as how they would keep them out: Isn't there already a natural zoning area right outside the cities? Simply do what they did in FFXI, have the player automatically dismount at zoning points if they want to continue.
People on the FFXIV forum have a weird way of seeing the world.
"it never happened in a previous Final Fantasy so why now?"
Um, to answer that: Maybe because that ^ is your only objection.
The only problem I could see with chocobos in towns is limsa. There are a lot of narrow staircases/ramps there. It would be hard to get a chocobo up there.
i think in ffxiv, with the way the regions are where u dont zone but just walk in, if your on a chocobo, and u reach the gate, it could give u a pop up window saying that the chocobo does not want to go any further and ask if u want to dismount.
i think an auto dismount will upset a lot of players, especially if u enter the gate by accident.....
i really REALLY hope they implement something like a personal chocobo barn where you can have maybe up to 5 different chocobos that u've raised from an egg. you can pick and choose which one you want to ride also and instead of zoning in from the rental, you can zone out of your barn which can be a zone right outside the city gates.
chocobos... bleh... i want coblyn mounts ( ^.^)b
itll probably be a pop up window to dismount b4 entering a city like Gabbagabba said. No need to make it any differently
Did you know that if you tried to post a suggestion like this (I say suggestion because it certainly doesn't qualify as an "idea") on any other forum besides a FFXIV one, you would be shot down for being unimaginative and restrictive.
Like, don't you guys ever think of ways to improve concepts rather than just preserving the status quo or upholding antiquated traditions?
Uldah is basically one big road. I think it can handle a chocobo here and there. Another thing, all anyone does in the cities is craft or AFK-bazaar, so obviously you won't be able to do either of those things on a chocobo if SE is smart, thereby placing a restriction on the chocobo-congestion without it seeming untoward or imposing.
I would like to be able to ride chocobos in cities.
SE is gona look at this from a practical stand point. Your and our opinions come last gift.
First off. Why do you need a chocobo in town?
You are making presumptions. Ive not even stated an opinion about it yet.
I'd just like to know, from a practical standpoint. What do you need a chocobo in town for?
(cus as far as i know, they're being implemented as a practical mode of transportation vs teleing, after patch 1.19* they'll expand on them.)
*edit. heh. almost forgot we have to wait another month or so.
oooo, i tooootally forgot to think about this!
yes! i dont see why not. there is no zone line between the city and open world and the cities themselves are quite large to be walking back and forth.
+1 to riding Chobos in town!
the only real reason to me is because cities are quite large and tend to require people to walk around constantly. it would essentially make travel time a bit quicker when all you want to do is get from points A,B, and Y (all the way over there) and then back to A again.Quote:

to me its a more why not?
I don't see this happening. Imagine people storming the Ul'dah Adventurers' Guild on Chocos >_> or going up the stairs once the airship ports get open and what not. Just unnecessary clutter, imo. Then there's lag issues, Chocobo butts in my face at market ward entrance etc. It just reads chaos to me. And people can't be that lazy to walk in the cities.... can they? o_O???
The Chocobo stables inside the cities might as well serve for personal mounts once we get them, to access the stables via them, check Choco progress etc. or if those are ment for rental perhaps you'll just appear outside city limits once you rent one. Or they'll move those NPCs (stables) somewhere closer to city entrances, or give us new NPCs.... Just don't see mounts functioning well within city limits.
nono, you didnt answer the question. You presupposed it to fit your own means.
I'll simplify it and ask for basic responces i guess.
In what manor would chocobos help or hinder the imerssion within cities? Do you see the need for a town full of afk chocobo'ers. Vs the current style - people not on mounts? What are the implications for many chocobos in tight spaces? (Any Adv. guild for example).
Besides running around faster. I don't see SE biting on this one.
1 or 2 Chocobos every 5 minutes on my screen = +to immersion, but that's not ever going to happen. The second scenario seems more likely, AFKers on Chocos, Chocos everywhere, Chocos obstructing view @ Wards, while vending to NPCs, popping out around every corner.... A definite no to that.
My life too would be made easier if I were to ride one within the city, but I have no problem using my own feet either, and I'd rather walk/run than be 'Waaark!'ed at everywhere o_o
(riding them in cities + mounted combat = hey, no need to dismout = clean feet forever :p )
I think they will be rideable in town. First off, the town and area outside the town are not seperated in 2 different zones like in ffxi. Second, the stables are in the center of the city.
Lastly unles ffxi, where you had a stable building with a path leading outside or a tunnel if you thinking norg. there isn't anything like that. Since we had a mini cs when we rode out on the choco.
I really have no issue seeing chocobo riding in the city. I think it is a cute concept. I liked riding my Mount in WoW with in the city. It made them feel like cities. :)
30mill gill says SE have already hammered out a design and like it or not, we'll all have to deal with it. (untill they update it...)
