do you think it can be a good move or a bad move to raise rank cap over 50?
It would be a horrible move to raise the cap before balancing -- After however? Perfect time to.
anytime would be a good time for a cap increase, 10 months at intial cap is only so entertaining
for me I don't think this game need a rank raise, because in the producer letter, they tell that doing xp will be really secondary, so what he said, it's with all job at 50, you will have fun....
So long as they dont repeat the same mistake and theres no reason be capped due to no content, they need to go hand in hand
I don't see a point to raising the cap in Beta
Iron out the kinks first, then raise the cap. Raising caps introduces a whole new set of problems that the dev team really doesn't need right now. I say they shouldn't consider a cap raise until the game's 2-year anniversary (Sept 2012) at the earliest.
the longer the cap stays at one level, the more people will bitch when they raise the cap, considering the game has a crap load of content that is supposed to be higher level, (monsters, weapons, gears, leves, behests) which was already designed. It will only feel like they are holding everything back. Which they are, but still really if they dont raise the cap, they will be forced to create way too much content at the level 50 mark, and the more content that is at the level 50 mark, the more people will be upset when cap goes up. People are already thinking about 50 like its the final cap, I dont want to be stuck here.
Also, keeping in mind that they said it should take someone 2 months to hit 50 playing 2 hours a day in their perfect plan, and there are only 7 classes, lets be honest, most people will grow bored very soon. even if they find 3 jobs they like, and play sparingly, in 6 months they will be capped on their prefered classes.
Not to mention most people have hit cap on multiple jobs long ago. the game is in sore need of a cap increase, and its not that hard to raise caps while working on the game, they did it in ffxi, and most developers fix issues while increasing caps. Supposedly withing the next 3 months they will be finished with battle changes, which they claimed was the real problem so even in by their own meter, there is no reason to hold back content.
Raising cap now does nothing. Every MMO I've played including yes WoW raised cap in conjunction with content additions, it was never raised "because it's boring to stay at the same cap for an extended time."
If you raise the cap now, without balancing or a real reason to, it would just be doing for the sake of it -- yes this is a game with a bad launch but it doesn't need that type of ideology. Also FFXI didn't raise the cap while working on stuff, they raised the cap after they added content, e.g it didn't go to 55 cap till they extended the missions and made it possible to progress past Shadow Lord.
Not to mention since you brought up FFXI, the cap didn't go past 75 till they released content that requires you to be level 80-90, because it's just damn well not possible to do at 75 lol, i.e If you want to fight Shinryu as a party of 75, go for it, but i can safely say even with atmas and curor buffs, it's still rough because it's rough at even level 90 because the way the balance is he's 4.5x over your stats @75 including buffs, which also scale in accordance to your level among abyssite acquisition.
No. The game is not ready for a raise in the level cap.
And to those saying people will complain if they wait too long, I have played World of Warcraft. No one complained when they left the level cap the same for about two years. How is waiting longer than about ten months going to make people complain?
And as other people have said, the developers have more than enough on their hands without adding making some new content to make it possible to raise the level cap. They're already working hard enough to make content for the levels that already exist.
And to put it simply, it's illogical to raise the level cap with the state the game's currently in.
Though I can empathize with this issue, I feel that the mentality will only lead to further "hurry up and give me my content NOW, regardless of quality".
This is indeed a developer goal, but it is also far from the present reality of the game. So until all required changes have been completed and thoroughly tested, this makes it difficult to act on in this manner.
Those who have chosen to rank up multiple classes to cap, that is purely their decision. To be honest it may have been a better idea to take frequent breaks and avoid that because now every time content is released, those people will feel either disappointed or ignored. In addition, this game has a lot more issues than just the battle system, so I expect a considerably longer downtime than 3 months. Agreed that these people are professionals and should be able to deal with the stresses of producing quality in a timely manner, but I'd sooner give them the extra time and get a suitable return on my investment than be repeatedly dissatisfied as I have been since launch.
while i agree a cap raise would be better with more new content, the basic content was already planned for the next few cap raises, mordona, and coerthas are areas meant for level 50+ charachers mostly. They already designed leves, they already had skills, and the main storyline stops drastically in the middle of itself.
They have as much content for the next cap raise, as they had for this game when it came out, which is to say, not enough, but what im really getting at, is we havent even reached the natural cap of this content. They essentially stopped us in the middle. the next cap raise should occur around Ishguard, and that should not take another year to release. If it does, then damn. there will be nothing to do in this game
Right now? Awful. They need to flesh out the 1-50 content first.
Building an MMO around the idea of the players taking frequent breaks is a bad idea.
Building an SP system that at max takes 14 months, at two hours a day to max every battle class, and raising the cap 2 years later is also a bad idea.
They basically need to be able to do both. They HAVE to up productivity in some way if they want to compete. There really is just no two ways about it. They had an extra year, i hope they have been storing many things behind the scenes, because a year is a long time in MMOs.
They no longer have the luxury of time. They have games coming out that have been in development for less time, with more polish and content coming out on release soon. They need to at the very least finish the basic story, and content that the game shipped with. They have had these assets since the game launched, dungeon areas, storylines, etc. The game has been hanging in a state that was supposed to last 5 months (the original ps3 release) for twice as long.
If they added the arc, musk, mystic, ishguard, the 5 or 6 dungeons people have already found, the skills they have already designed, the leves, behests and storylines they have already written. it would be a pretty decent chunk of stuff, and this stuff was already pretty far into development on release, 10 months later it should not be rushed content, it is way overdue.
But I'm sure a lot of people would rather they fix the current content to where it's less "Grind grind grind!!!!" before they raise the level cap and make more content for the higher levels. I know I'd prefer that they work on the current content first to where it meets its fullest potential.
Eventually after the game as a whole is flowing as an MMO should.
Level cap raises should be tied in with opening new lands to explore, and this goes back to the reworking the current zones issue. I shouldn't be able to walk right outside Limsa, go 500 feet south and down a cliff, and find level 77 mobs sitting right there.
The other thing is the gear issue. Everyone saw how the gear swap thread eventually got shot down after enough arguing and a dev posted they will not put in gear swaps during battle. No cap raise= either multitudes of gear for the same rank with various stat distributions or slowly increasing gear stats (which ends up with people needing to go through activities in a progression manner). So now we should have cap increase with new gear with new areas.
It's a better idea overall. People will eventually run older content because of either nostalgia, maybe they wanted to see it if they started playing later, or maybe some vanity items someone would like to acquire.
ps3 release should be a nice time for a cap raise
or sometime shortly after
I can see them raising the cap 1-2 years AFTER people are generally happy with the game.
When we have had and gone through maybe 5 dungeons, several nm's, more quest storyline that takes us to a new zone. Not just after Balancing... I mean c'mon..
Hey we just finished making everything right.
Ok let's raise the level cap!
But we just finished the balancing of content for 50.. there is no content for higher levels!
