How come we can't play with friends in ARR like this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKXCWPi3Pi0
Missed this sooooooo much. The days when people gathered up for NM runs, then just go outside Ul'dah for hunt, doing whichever NM they wanted first in a wilderness. Then defeating those NMs and getting some useful material for crafting of yet another useful item
Ugh that's all I want. It's the only reason I play mmos to hang out with people and kill bosses for fat loots ._.
If this is true than it's no reason for me and my fc to continue this game. We were just hoping maybe in a later patch they would add open world elites/bosses. But if thats never going to happen then what's the point? If hes never going to add open world content what on earth is the point of this game?
Because SE decided to turn a MMO into an apple store game. So yeah you cant have open world content. You can have everything instanced where you cant even send tells. Prison alike. The amazing and most brilliant design for a multiplayer online game in which you are supposed to you know.....make friends and play together.
...man I remember combat being slow in 1.0, just not that slow. Ah fickle memories we hold. XD
Anyways back on topic, the FATE system is what replaced open world content. For better or worse, personally I think worse unless they seriously expand on the FATE system. SE did post recently about possibly expanding on the Treasure Map/Hunting system, unfortunately they didn't provide many details. I'm sure they could do a NM Hunting system, ie monster hunter. However, I seriously doubt they'll add any sort of loot to the mobs. Which means people will complain until they are red in their face.
Yoshi already mentioned they weren't bringing back the roaming NMs sadly. I think it's a missed opportunity. Then again things can change over time.
That's funny, I gather my friends and do maps fairly frequently. Other than an achievement I don't really remember much reason to do many of the NMs in 1.0, maps at least provide me with plenty of Gils.
But we are getting open world Primal FATEs where, the Free Company that claims gets to later summon the Primal properly. So there's that.
One might be concerned that its a FATE, but... Well, firstly I seem to remember you can help random people with NMs in 1.0, you just wouldn't get credit if you weren't in the party that claimed it. Secondly, if a rival Free Company claims Ifrit, and you want to claim Ifrit so you can summon him, I really doubt you're going to join the zerg rush against Ifrit when you can instead watch them die and then claim Ifrit...
I'm sorry, but that video is utterly boring. :S Standing around and wailing on a mob that shows up every so often.... yea, I think SE can try to do a little better than that.
Well the hanging out and killing bosses for "fat loots" is something this game does have. Primals/Moogle/Ultima for your direct boss fights. The open world NMs not so much. But that does limit you to you and seven other friends. There has been talk about alliances but no details is that's just going to stay in Crystal Tower or not. I have a feeling if NM do get reintroduced it will be something like how the Treasure Maps work. Get item, go to location, pop NM.

Q: How will we fight notorious monsters in A Realm Reborn? Will they only appear in FATE battles and dungeons?
A: For the most part, NMs will only appear in FATE battles. Once a FATE has started nearby, it will be marked on the map, so players that join will notice the NM right away. We want these battles to be a fun experience that brings players together. Some very large NMs are hiding out there somewhere, so stay alert!
Now keep in mind that's from the 5th Live Letter, but they really haven't changed this stance since then.
Edit: There is a inherent problem with the NM/HNM open world system. 1. Competition of certain NM/HNM if "mad loots" are dropped. FC's could put a lock down on certain NM/HNMs. 2. Currently FFXIV doesn't really have a claim system to lock out people, so perhaps number 1 isn't a concern. However, if that's the case then it's just like an Odin or Behemoth. Mass mob of doom/lag/render issues. 3. If "fat loots" don't drop off of NM/HNM people won't really do them. Just having them there to be there isn't really an incentive to add them to the game. 4. The current zones would have to be expanded it bit. 1.0 could handle NMs roaming the world due to the fact it was massive in size. The current game only gives us a portion of the map size that 1.0 had (the maps we currently have aren't smaller, we just don't have access to the full map).
I'll believe it when I see it. hehe

Perhaps most interesting is what Square Enix is doing with summons. Instead of giving every player the ability to summon primals like Ifrit or Shiva, there will only be one Ifrit per server. “The players will get together in their Free Companies [guilds] and they will fight Ifrit. If they defeat him, they will get the opportunity to summon him once. That Free Company will get to decide where and when to use him. Then Ifrit goes out to another place in the world for other people to go get him, so it’s like this competition between people in the world. This won’t be instanced, this will be public content, so anyone in the world can do it.” Until Ifrit is summoned, no other player group will be able to summon him. When Ifrit is actually brought into a fight it seems like nearly everyone in the server will know, because the skies will turn red. Then once the skies clear, you’ll know Ifrit is again available to defeat and acquire. “The whole world is involved in the summoning of these monsters.”
NO! Instance only! Preferably with lockouts so we make sure our FC friends don't go play with other friends.
Joke aside, the whole instanced thing is getting out of hand and spreading like a really bad virus. Some engaging open world content would be nice. Map parties are zero threat and FATE parties @ level cap are .... borderline pointless (unless that's your preferred way of obtaining seals, I guess).
Great more fates that won't drop anything. There's nothing wrong with Competition, not to mention there's multiple ways to handle it. Like how EQN is doing, with completely random boss spawns. Or a kill/loot lockout since SE loves to use those. The whole map size thing I can see possibly being an issue. Played an mmo before with the same size/slightly larger maps and when a world boss would spawn, it didn't hurt the map or anything. I'm not sure if that also has anything to do with the quality of servers or whatever. It's just really disappointing that everything is going to be in an instance or a boring zerg fest fate.
Seriously? There is absolutely no difference between NMs and FATEs. If you want to hunt big monsters so badly then just go FATE hunting. Fight Gorgimera or Cancer. I honestly believe that needs to be expanded upon. Odin and Behemoth are boring but gorgimera is actually kind of fun, there has to be more FATEs like that one that drops decent gear.
I don't think SE wants to foster an environment where the person with the best bot wins claim over mobs in the open world, because this game will devolve into FFXI again if they put any kind of item of any significance on an open world encounter.
Then don't have "whoever touches it 1st wins" have "whoever does the biggest portion of the damage wins" ... Aka the group of 8 people will always beat the solo bot.
It has worked (and still does) for years in EQ. I can count on 1 hand how often someone tried to steal a named in a year. You zoned in, called a camp check, took a unclaimed named, and /win.
Are you trying to retort with illogical, unrelated statements? I'm not talking about instanced content; I'm talking about open world content, as is what this thread seems to be about. Standing around for hours for a spawn and then standing in place wailing on it for a few minutes to loot some shinies isn't exactly the pinnacle of engaging gameplay. At the very least, give the monsters some actual mechanics (like the world bosses in WoW, or the zone invasion and raid rift bosses in Rift, or even the world bosses in TERA) that prevent mindless zerging.
No it's not illogical, you were complaining the mechanicaless open world nms, well news flash none of the open world mobs have any AI in arr. Even the bosses: Get it to x hp, it starts do do this move : get it to x hp does this move. That's nothing special and once you know WHAT they do, you can beat any of the fights if you have high enough gear level.
World bosses suggest giant zerg bosses for achievements (rift).
WoW had some open world raid bosses back in the day that single guilds formed up to fight and dropped actual raid loot. So that may be an exception
TERA I dunno never played it.
This it talking about GROUP fights. Not giant world raids. Sit down, kill trash, shoot the shit with your friends in group, and get that rare named to spawn and drop your fancy whatever.
example...
Wavecrasher
Named hadal
PH: ser alsa hadal, or a ser alsa thel hadal
Spells / abilities:
Wave Crash - A single target 35k DD with 15k DoT and 3k Endurance drain. Can be cured by moving 150' away.
Wave Shield - Blocks fire spells casted on him, and grants him lifetap from melee damage. Each time a fire spell is cast on him, he will heal for 500k.
Loot:
Grey Grendlaen-Hide Belt
Wavecrasher's Raw-Hide Belt
Wavecrasher's Conch-Mace
Common Visible:
Head
So.. a fight with mechanics.... a fight that drops valuable loot.... a group named
SE, I want big maps so I can explore them all!
There's a very simple explanation of why maps are so small and everything is instanced.
PS3
Want proof? Go fight Odin, behemoth, or any other high level world boss on the ps3 version and tell me how that works out for you. (just because it's a fate doesn't mean it isn't a world boss)
Not really. They're a good idea, it's just when you have them spaced so far between pops, you give them higher priority than everything else. If Odin/Behemoth popped more frequently, you wouldn't have to announce to the server that they're there, causing a huge influx of players to bottleneck into a tiny area.
FATEs themselves are fine as a form of placing giant mobs into the world. They give people a chance to do the fight without having to stand around for hours/days running a bot to claim.
It works "fine" for me too, as in the game doesn't drop to 10FPS while doing it, but with that many players constantly spamming abilities to hit him, his model disappears quite frequently as he jumps around aggro on players. I agree that the fights are horrid on PS3, but they aren't really up to par for PC either.
Wow, why did I watch this. Gods I miss 1.xx... I miss the maps and the NMs and the LS crests next to our names.
I miss inertia animations. I sorely miss On Windy Meadows. I miss inertia animations. I miss the old combat system (not quite what was in that video. 1.23's was a touch faster). I miss inertia animations.
I miss inertia animations.
All we wanted was 1.23, but better, Yoshi. Why did you gut the entire game -_-. This new engine is snazzy, sure, but it can't even do tinted lenses. What is that.
Bolded that part for you because:
8 man maps: 8 person content with loot at the end. You can even choose when it spawns!
As for Fate Bosses: These are world bosses, even if only 8 or 200000 people show up, they are. The label fate just seems to make people blind to that I guess?
We should be seeing Roaming primals in the future as well, but I imagine that might be a full alliance sort of deal. Who knows?
Also extreme? Define how that was an extreme example? Seems to meet the criteria fine.
Can't ppl just gather friends and do fates like on the vid the op posted? can't you run around this world now and find random cool hang outs and kill anything random with friends? yes yes yes. And in that vid i see no nice back rounds just ground sky and ppl is that something to miss? yes 1.0 was big but that's all it was big slow and messed up why do you think SE trashed it
See, it's the actions of other players that are ruining FATE for you, not the FATE itself. Yoshi-P didn't sit down and say "Hey guys, you know what we need to add? Fights that just make you spam AoE moves!" when developing the idea of the FATE system. It just turns out that's how players decided to do them.
No. Content that can be controlled by players is bad design. Yes, bots ruin it for other people who are also doing that, but not being able to do content because the mob is being monopolized by a group is super lame. FATEs allow other people who bought the game to be able to enjoy open-world content.
That's also why 99% of the game is instanced. There's no reason for a small handful of people to be able to be the only ones enjoying content in the year 2014. That design philosophy is so archaic.
It's called claiming a camp? People have done it for 16+ years without much issue?
You mean the loot that is inferior to even the group dungeon drops? And sorry but triggered spawns are the same thing as an instance.
I wasn't saying fate bosses are not world bosses. They are.
Saying "the world boss that spawns once a week attracts 200 people lags some people so obviously open world group mobs that are designed for 1 group are not viable" is extreme.
Hell you yourself say that maps are open world content. And judging by your mention of them feel they are viable in open world. So you yourself also disagree with the previous "LOOK LOOK PEOPLE LAG ON ODIN AND BEHEMOTH THAT MEANS WE CAN'T HAVE OPEN WORLD CONTENT!!!"
