Crafters only make money from other crafters this must end

Currently max cap crafters make money by HQing items selling them to other crafters who leveking through triple leve quest, thats the main income for crafters, since most gear is gotten from dungs and currency buying crafted items is useless
My suggestion is let crafters make blue quality and epic items like rare items from odin or behemoth as rare mats

The problem is that quests give too many gears and that there is no crafted gear after ilevel 70.

Reduce the gear from quests (or make it that quested gear is a bit weaker than crafted NQ gear), put some rare mats in dungeons to make some (not all) of the green dungeon gears craftable and bring new crafted gear after ilevel 70.

You are correct, crafting in FXIV is a true pyramid scheme as far as making gil goes.

Yoshi's recent comments were that housing will help this. But I don't want a sideshow act to be the main focus of crafting. I want crafting to be useful! I'm really disappointed about how crafting has turned out. Its such a great system.... put to waste.

I think this is only part of the problem. The other issue is that even if the gear from quests were a bit weaker, leveling up is so quick and easy that there's really no point in spending money to get slightly better gear.

Gear from quests isn't the problem (they only give NQ gear and most of them can't be repeated). The problem is that leveling is far too fast.

There's no point in investing in HQ gear when you out level it so fast.

True, but your HQ weapon can be melded (though some might consider that a waste of time) and, more importantly, can be converted into materia. Not to mention that you can easily outlevel a dungeon without ever getting a green drop.

Thats why we need new recipes craft blue or pink quality items for all level brackets

It is because the lv 41 dungeon weapon is ilevel 43 and the lv 43 HQ weapon is also ilevel 43. But you can put in the HQ weapon stats that the dungeon weapon don't have.
But yes, the current level speed don't encourage a lot to upgrade the gear with materia before level cap.

This thread is proof most of you "crafters" know nothing bout crafting and making money. I make about 500k+ profit a day with t2 hq sales on the market boards . Nobody has time to "work" for someone hqing leve items and melding. I laugh at all them shouts of craftersurre looking for work. Just look for current sells.... Then pm the person and let them know if they need other pieces from the set that you can make them at a cheaper price. It cost about 200-275k for 9 Philo items on my server. Convert it to a heavy Darksreel armor with 5 cheap accuracy +6 melds and resell it for 500k. Do this with many other items like full melded critical/vit rings and it's easy gil.

I can't speak for all crafting classes, but I believe it's fair to expect Alchemists and Culinarians are going to see some useful profit streams when PvP comes out due to their expendable crafts.

Get rid of bind on equip and I might start buying that expensive ilevel 70 gear. If I can't sell it back when I'm done with it I'm not buying it.

Bind on equip is probably the only thing actually driving the market.

Let me buy crafted vanity gear and your problem is solved.

Though that would require the items to drop from dungeons and stuff so that people who fight instead of craft can make up the money needed for the crafted items.

The system is great but the investment reward is slightly off. New rooms need new gear but most people have full sets of other gears from greeds. Once the game is a little older things will balance out as material is siphoned out of the game. Time should fix this.

I'm genuinely confused by what you mean with "I want crafting to be useful". In what way isn't it useful to people now that it wouldn't be in the future? When it comes to crafted gear, if someone needs to get gear, they'll buy/make it... useful to them. For materials/food/etc, if someone needs it, they'll buy/make it... useful to them.

It is useful, but not in the way people want it to be. Crafters want crafting to supplement people's "main character" roles. It doesn't because people's main role is subsidized by the dungeons, storyline and side quests. You're never going to penetrate that market because the game allows people to get to 50 ASAP. However, crafters can supply "alt roles" that people want to play. Right now I sell HQ < level 30 items and they sell. It may not be what crafters want, but it works. I've made as much money crafting as doing quests and I haven't broke 40 yet.

OP is not 100% accurate in his assumptions. The current state is, majority of the money being made by crafting is either in between crafters or by selling to people who are either hardcore players (whose income comes from selling Titan runs) or from players who are obviously buying from RMTs. I have come across players willing to pay up to .85 mil for a piece of armor and they have no crafting/gathering classes and hardly know end game, so, one must wonder where all that gil is coming from.

Overall, the current state is quiet bad. It needs to improve and soon.

Honestly, I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. The OP seems upset that the crafting sales primarily feed other crafters. Why is that bad? I make plenty of money selling to other crafters, and I'm not even a "max level" crafter yet. Once I am, I expect to be able to make plenty more gil selling to people that want ilvl 70 stuff.

Frankly, if you're dedicated and farm a few sets of philo items yourself, you're going to be making a whole mess of money just off the first few sales you have.

If you had played 1.0 you'd understand how an economy works without bind on equip. I made an absolute fortune selling HQ weapons and these were weapons that had been in the game over a year. Of course this was because you couldn't pop out HQs one after the other, another major difference in this economy.

I can tell you now that no player with any sense is going to pay decent money for crafted gear when they have to toss it as soon as they get their allagan or AF+1 piece. Might be why your stuff is only selling to other crafters.

I don't even bother with crafting in ARR because the economy is trash for a crafter compared to that in 1.0. It's all generic trash with materia shoved in it to try make it look better than it is. I'm not going to say which is better because it's completely different. 1.0 was a crafter's market where you made big money quite easily if you were good at producing HQs, whereas ARR is a buyer's market because people don't need your stuff and your stuff is the same as everything else on the market boards. Just glad I made my money when the going was good.

2.1 is supposed to expand the crafting market.

From my understanding, all PVP gear have to be crafted as well as most of housing items.

I rarely spend any gil at market . So I have to think crafting is not very profitable.

The only thing I acutally bought from crafters was the weapon needed for doing Relic quest.

So crafting must really only be good for selling to other crafters.


Never needed to use potions food etc even doing coil etc. Would it make things easier maybe but they don't have potion that allows you to move out of AOE faster do they :)


The only way to make crafting work would be to make it essential part of obtaining gear in the game . Bosses should drop items needed to craft the best items , not the actual items themselves . Even that is a dead end market because once the person has
the item they don't need it twice .

Consumables equipment is where the money is at . Items that slowly breakdown to the point another one has to be made eventually. So that lvl 50 character is constantly farming for new gear forever .

But they're at least four times more expensive, not worth the effort for most people when DL is sufficient.

And that is another thing , the amount of Gil obtained doing just combat is pathetic and most of my gil goes on repairs .

So how do we buy stuff if we don't have any gil to spend ?

And yet I've made as much money in 2.0 as I had in 1.0 with the 10% gil readjustment. You won't make killings but you will continue to make good money with the new economy.

The only influx of amounts of gil into the system are from crafters. They buy thy philo mats from the combat people and now with the prices dropping so much on the mats there is going to be a recession soon. Last week the crafters were paying 25 to 30k per mat this week your lucky to get 21k and they are bitching at paying that but i havnt noticed the crafted gear drop in price to equate the drop in mats, last week crafted was 500k plus this week is still the same but the mat prices have dropped.

You should not be forced to craft in a game if you dont want to and as it stands right now the only influx of cash in the system are the crafters. The way its going items wont be worth anything soon since crafters are only going to be the ones with any larg amounts of cash.

Something that would help a lot would be for the lvl 50 gear dropped in dungeons to be able to be sold on the market, that would generate cash for the combat people and then they could afford to buy crafted gear. Honestly how many people running WP and AK actually take the drops now, there isnt a reason to since you cant sell them, break them down and you dont need them to wear. I dont think i have ever played a game that all max lvl gear was untradeable , there have always been items you could sell to other players in this instance there is not anything you can sell but tome mats or HM runs...

Am i the only one who facepalms when someone abbreviates 'Dungeon' to 'Dung'?

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Why on earth would I buy your HQ iLVL70 gear when I can perform just as well in Free Darklight gear. Why bother with your materia when my gear doesn't let me use it? Why buy any crafted gear period before I can attain level 50 and get full AF before it even really matters?

You can't sell to my alts either. Know why? I geared them up before I even beat the story by greeding drops in dungeons. Oh you wanted to sell them HQ iLVL 70 gear? Im sorry I used my philo tomes to get them darklight while I was doing my weekly myth runs.

Crafting has no real use to battle class players that have any patience.

This is because people only look for large sells. They want to sell something for 50k a piece. no one really wants to try their hand at selling things in increments of 1k.

Thats why the market is dead because the only thing selling for 5 and 8 digits are hq and end game craft gear. /SARCASM

I have a problem with the need for somany Philo mats to craft. While on the one hand it's a great sink for philosophy tome stones for players doing endgame on multiple classes, it's actually makes more sense to spend these on the class Darklight while getting relic weapons.

9 coke to make darksteel ingots for weapons that can be outclassed in raw stats by a relic supported by 1200 tomes worth of darklight in the same amount of time makes it all feel like a waste.

I think this is a great idea. It would not only give an option between current high lvl gears so we don't all look the same but also give crafters a more useful role.

The only reason ive bought crafted gear was largely motivated by fashion reasons (vanya robe looks prettier than DL cowl).
The way the vertical gear progression works with the game, the only reason to get crafted gear is to dodge the darklight gear look and/or the timesink grinding for it. Thats all it has going for it.

Grinding a ton of gil for crafted gear is boring, and even more costly to meld, and guess what, its eventually going to be worthless because its so single job focused and youll outlevel/gear that item and have no use for it besides vanity gear.

SE will have to keep offering better craftable recipes to keep up with new dungeon/itemlevel bumps to keep all the people that bought into crafting and gathering happy

If you sub-level a class, that's a good way to go and sell. I crafting things for me Lancer.
But yeah the first class you do is a free giveaway coz of all the quests. And they are weaker than dungeon drops.
The system is more like a damn hobby...but it's our only real good way to make money and you must do 2 other crafts to do well in the other craft and it's just a run around really. I have to be a Weaver an Leatherworker and other junk to do all of this lol...It's kinda fun but damn.
First time I am interested in crafting and they kinda screw-a-roo'd it.
