I see A LOT of people complain about the myth cap, and say they're making multiple alts and how bored they are of playing the game, usually in the same sentence.
I really don't understand this mindset?
What I realized in FFXI is you have to think for the future. Sure level your alts now, get your myth caps and have fun managing all those extra characters.
I think you guys are really setting yourself up for a huge amount of work in the future or a giant waste of time now, just so you can obtain more 90 gear that bypasses the 80 gear that will be released with Crystal Tower in Dec.
There are a lot of benefits for having all your jobs leveled on One character.
Personally I'm working on maxing all jobs to 50,
Currently 8/8 DoH, 2/3 DoL, and 4/9 DoW/DoM
Working on learning how to play each job correctly and skilled, all while gearing up i70 so that I have a variety of jobs for Crystal Tower and beyond.
What I don't understand is how some players have distilled this game down to The Coil and 300 Myth cap and everything else is GTFO.
I have my Stardust+1, working on Curtana+1 and I feel like i90 is mostly bonus atm, something to keep us busy while working on all the other content.
The only people I can kind of understand are the 1.0 Players with everything maxed, but even for them; If I was capped I would focus on making money for housing, achievements, and helping my FC. Huge amounts of new content should only be 8 weeks away or so.
Just seems like a sad use to not enjoy the content of what for me continues to be a very fun game, and
I just wanted to say something.

I'm in the same mindset and working on getting all my classes up at the moment. Having fun experiencing the game. End game will still be there when I get there and I don't really plan to skip Crystal Tower since it was intended to be the content to bridge the gear gap from 70 to 90.

I play it for the pleasure of being multiple people, each with different jobs to do. My Miqo'te, bending aether to her will and destroying her foes. My Elezen, keeping his companions from harm. Well if you enjoy leveling another class/job, good for you I say. A lot of people (especially 1.0 people) already have everything leveled or have no interest in leveling something else, which is their right.
I have every battle class at 50, I enjoyed the story on my SMN, I didn't rush the content and I started doing endgame about 3 weeks after release. Now all I have to do is Coil (which is about 10 hours of weekly content if I want to be very generous) and mythology tome farming, which is a very repetitive and boring (for all those people who are confused, repetitive doesn't mean hard) process, and I am not even allowed to do that too much because there is a low weekly cap. So what can I do now? Craft? Gather? I've already done that a lot and it's not my idea of a thrilling experience, I like it but that's it, I'm not gonna spend my days mining ore.
I already have enough money to buy a house when that comes, but the point is when the high point of your gaming excitement is waiting for a house you'll get tired of in a matter of weeks, you know there's something wrong.
We can't even do Coil more than once a week, simply because SE is afraid we'll finish the content, and the Coil is the only real endgame content right now, so what do you do when that's done? I'd say that's a poor design. you take FFXI as an example but they're two extremly different games and the current state of XIV is frustrating.
I love the game but it's getting to the point where after doing my few hours of content I spend the rest of the week doing something else than playing, and while that's fine it says a lot about the game in its current state. If you enjoy perfecting every class in the game and gearing it up, good for you. You're allowed to do that. I'm not allowed to do what I want to do though, and that's not fair. I don't understand why people are against the idea of players spaming coil because like you said, the content will still be there for them when they want to do it. -

No, people will finish their sets faster and stop playing faster which dominoes and slows progression for everyone else that cared about it. If people want to run multiple characters to "bypass" the system then they are creating more work for themselves in the long run... like the OP said. It's not just getting to 50 and being done. Many jobs require cross class skills, that requires more leveling of classes you may not even want. Some of those classes you already leveled on your "main" thus creating more work for you so that you can get tomes faster.Quote:

I'm all for people leveling alts, but I think people leveling alts have the wrong idea. I understand both sides of the arguement on the forums and this is how I see people on these forums.
Player: "So I can only get 300 tomes per week with 1 character. I'll show SE! I can just make another character and get more tomes for a different class! Hahaha stupid system with stupid rules. I can go around it!"
SE: "Yes, all is working to plan. Instead of the player only playing once per week and possibly lowering the availability of others to progress due to low end game population. Now they are playing the same content 2 or more times a week AND they are paying us more money to do so! Mr. Yoshida, you sir deserve a promotion!"
End result: Player profits. SE profits. Playerbase as a whole profits. Game is actually healthier despite the 10% or less complaining on the forums like it is the end of the world that there is a 300 tome cap per week. -
