That would be a cool little thing for further customization! And I like this art, having a top in-game like that (w/o tattoos or other extras SE likes to put on it) would be great!

Every race is getting remodeled but to what extent remains to be seen. If I recall correctly they've previously spoken about how the character creation of Hrothgar functions a certain way because of memory limitations. Presumably that will no longer be an issue with the graphical update, so who knows what they might change in that regard. I wouldn't hold your breath for an upright option though as much as I'd like to see that as well.
Thank you, I knew that they would retouch the old models, but didn't think of the memory limitation and how it might be increased with the coming of 7.0.
I am going to hope for an upright posture for male and female Hrothgar though. My poor boys need to see a chiropractor! That and I hope the females will stand str8.
I think the posture problem with Hrothgar is the 3rd most requested feature after hair and hats.
I hope they are small and dainty like miqo females. They could of nice manes and have skin colors like mooncats. If they are made otherwise not many people will play them like the males. They should take what works and include it in the hroth females so they get more players and make it worth the time.
I don't know about memory limitations, but it is true ours is peculiar. A lot of the options you see in the character creator is rehashed for other races, even if they don't behave the same way. Things such as sliders and selectable options. It's why some races don't have muscle sliders, but have something else instead. So for a race as complex as Hrothgars, they'd need to have a lot more leeway, which they currently don't have.
First, the "legacy" races (including Male Miqo'te and Female Roegadyn) will be the ones tweaked with the graphic update. Then will come the rest. And after that, who knows. Odds are we'll never get a new race, but we MIGHT get racial variants.
With all due respect, but at that point why not just make a female Miquo'te keeper of the moon with a fluffier hairstyle?
My hope is that they are as big as shown in the Bozjan mural, aka slightly shorter than female Roegadin. A more humanoid face could be represented by face 4, or the Ronso face like the males.
They have already stated that popularity isn't a thing they are considering when making them. But more of a diversity in choises, if they make them look like Moon Miquo'te that wouldn't be fill the Beast woman niche that the Beast man do.
I hope they make them to be the perfect counterpart for male Hrothgar. Big, fierce, strong and with a little bit of cute and cuddly!
The females being upright is probably a pretty safe bet. I agree about a posture option for the males. I think some slouch makes sense for a beast race but they're at almost a 90 degree angle. When I was a Hroth I couldn't see my own head when I ran which seems a little extreme.
The thing a lot of people don't realize is that while beast/unusual races are almost always less popular overall, the people drawn to them typically wouldn't play the game without their inclusion. So from a business perspective it is absolutely worth it because you're tapping into a demographic that would otherwise ignore your game. Yoship understands this which is why Hrothgar were added in the first place.
"After seeing the positive reception of the Lupin characters we introduced in Stormblood, we concluded that, for the long-term health of FFXIV, it was important to implement a greater variety of character types beyond the traditionally beautiful in a future expansion."

I tried tracking down the source and I'll update if I find it. It had something to do with their tails if I'm remembering right. But yeah, they have to cut a lot of corners because of engine limitations. I have no idea how they've even accomplished what they have, lmao.
All the playable races will be updated at once for 7.0. They said as much during a live letter when they spoke about all NPCs that are just character creator parts being good to go right of the gate.
I will be super jealous if the females have straight backs, but we will forever be stuck with hunched backs.
I hope Female Hrothgar will have the same height as Male Hrothgar.
All of them will come at 7.0 then? :o Because what I remember is them saying that the first races will come out first, and then they'll progressively build the rest of the game until 7.0
If so, then that's even better! Because that means Female Hrothgar will come relatively early. Maybe not 7.0 itself, but definitely past that, and not at the end of the expansion or so like some people fear :p
I hope so too!! ^^ Especially because that'd make interactions with them (read = Emotes) extremely cute and form-fitting!
Go play World of Warcraft if you want to be a furry.
1 - You don't need to play WoW to be a furry.
2 - You're playing what the furry fandom considers a "scaly".
3 - WoW only has like two good furry races.
4 - WoW isn't even the only one. You have GW2, ESO, and yes, even FF14.
So uh... No :)
But thank you for bumping the thread with toxicity, we do need the devs to know people haven't forgotten this race and want it done with quality.
Nope, you can tell from the previews given in the original announcement that the poly count is being increased. Just look at the midlander example and note how the ear has gone from simple angular geometry with a flat texture slapped on it to a fully modeled ear. You can see other areas that have been smoothed out as well like the jawline.

Also keep in mind this is only from the first month of preliminary testing, which by the time the expansion is out will have been two years in the past. I would assume the overall difference between the old and new models will be even more stark by the time we see them in game. I'm quite looking forward to the big reveal!
You may be thinking of when they were talking about NPCs. They said that any made up of character creator parts would be good to go immediately, but those with custom models will be updated in waves.
Launching an expansion without the new race it's being sold on would certainly be an odd choice. I think it's pretty safe to say they'll launch in the same manner as the other races.
If anything, it'd mean Hrothgals are already made with the new graphics. It'd be kinda redundant to make them with the current graphics only to update it within the year.
I know this is most likely a troll, but really? Is that the best you got? Furry bad so go WOW?
Nevermind that Hrothgar is a beast race, you can't be a furry unless you identify as one, this coment is rich coming from a scaley and people can play whatever they want regardless of what other people say.
At least the troll from the last page tried a bit harder. LOL
What's being/not being a furry got to do with playing a certain game? I'm willing to bet some gil that every MMO has a "furry" race at this point. Heck, even MOBAs do.
Sorry Sturm, the "scaly" comment wasn't directed at you. I do enjoy the draconic look a lot and would have loved to have an Au'ra that was more like the concept art from HW. With that said I do not hate them, I wouldn't play as one personally. I prefer the more fluffy feline/canine aesthetic and the more feral the better, but that again is a personal preference.
Again I am sorry for my wording, I didn't mean to single Au'Ra, just the one poster who was quick to throw bricks when they live in a house of glass.
Churro xD it wasn't toward you.
Let me put it this way.
To be a furry you either need to be engrossed in it (not necessarily in a seggsy way, but rather just engaging in the fandom overall, like art or the stuff aimed toward the fandom like specific games and such), or you need to label yourself as one. It's not going to be one game that will suddenly make you a furry. If you play Hrothgar here but play boring bland humanoid literally everywhere else, you're not a furry. You just happened to like Hrothgar.
That's reflective of several people in FF14, including the forums themselves o: A LOT of people in this thread play or like Hrothgar but don't necessarily care about identifying themselves as a furry or want to engage with furry-related stuff for the fact that there are furries in it.
And constantly assuming that that's what people do, like certain people have done, is really harmful. Not just for people in the furry fandom who keep being used as a slur. But also for people who aren't a part of that, who will feel like they can't enjoy what they enjoy because of slurs.
The scaly comment? That's not even true. Au Ra are not lizardfolk, they just have scales on their skin. They're human, and that's a gigantic portion of their in-game identity, as people from Ishgard have confused them for dragonborn and began persecuting and executing them for looks alone.
To be a scaly, you need to be a reptile of some sort, be it real or fantastical like a dragon. Au Ra are not it. Yet if dwodmots is going to come in here and accuse everyone of being a furry for playing one of two "out there" races in the game (the other being lalafell, the rest are humans with different proportions and appendages), then by her own logic, she is a scaly. And several people who also don't know any better do look at Au Ra and call them scaly all the time.
Does it mean it's right for me to call someone a scaly when I do know better? No. But if you're going to come here and stir crap just to bother people for playing and caring about one race, then you're opening yourself up for equally low blows. If you don't like being called a scaly and being compared to the rest of the furry fandom, leave people be.
Otherwise? lmao no, Au Ra are just as furry as Miqo'te are. And that's barely, if any at all xD
Just... people need to stop using Furry as a slur. Furries have done so much more good than I've seen the FF community do. I've seen them get houses for people, help people with disabilities and with medical bills. I've seen artists go from being in need to having their expenses covered just because furries started commissioning them after knowing their problems. I haven't seen the FF14 community lift a finger to help anyone. What I have seen were people denying the right to a disability. Yay us.
I didn’t knew about the furry thing before coming to this thread because I just find Hrothgars pretty cool and kind of adorable.
The word furry came on this thread solely because some rude people like the one a few posts before came here to freely insult Hrothgars players :/
So yes, those noble and cute Hrothgars well deserve their female counterparts!
That's the typical Karen isn't it? xD The ones on TV that throw a hissy fit because one person unrelated to them bought a chocolate cake and they happen to have opinions about it.
:p I'm a furry, it really doesn't insult me. But yeah you're exactly right, I think it shouldn't be used as a slur. Because it's only going to insult people who aren't a furry, and it's going to make furries who aren't on the "weirder" side of the internet feel bad for being associated to the fandom.
Labelling people stuff they are not is a problem, regardless what the label may be if your intention isn't to be pleasant :T
Exactly! It was an opportunity for me to discover the furry community but this is why I’m shocked seeing that word used as a slur ! This is a shame it wasn’t brought up in a more positive way than just to annoy Hrothgars players. If the above au ra poster thinks to be call a furry is insulting, he’s the one with a bias here and it’s not cool. At all.
Let people enjoy the races they love and regroup into communities who can help people and make someone’s life better, just like admirable behaviours you stated above !
(Sry English isn’t my main language and it’s late here, I hope I’m understandable!)
Instead of adding female hrothgar to the game, they should instead delete male hrothgars. Hrothgar were a mistake.
#deletehrothgar
I don't get the gratuitous hostily tbh.
Unfortunately I can't say Hrothgar players (and furries since we were just talking about it) aren't used to it.
They're on my ignore list, so whatever Awesome said is likely to be about as relevant as a BLM's Scathe button. Just ignore them, they're a known troll with nothing better to do.
Hey, they had to branch out from simping for aveyond some time, I guess.
https://i.redd.it/nul09882n0f41.jpg
So anyway, how about them lionesses?
I'm hoping by then they'll have ironed out the hair issue completely so we don't see a repeat of previous issues.
I won't commit to wanting to play one without knowing what they'll actually look like, but I'm definitely curious.
ironed, curled, straight, frizzy, braided... Whatever they get, I hope it looks cool on them :3
...oh... |D wrong "ironed"
Though I agree btw. Enthusiasm aside, only really make a decision to play female hrothgar when the designs have been unveiled.
'-' nah, don't go that far. Besides, I'm sure plenty of people will throw a fit if the design isn't at least appealing. It certainly won't be for everyone, but... hopefully whichever camp "loses" will have at least something to enjoy. Even if it's just visuals.
I sort of envy the Viera on this aspect. Males for sure were divisive, but at least there isn't much you could go wrong with the design: they're humans with rabbit ears, the rest comes with how the design is laid out for Viera like slender builds and jovial\softer faces.
With Hrothgar, even if we have a Ronso model for a female one, they're technically already straying from the original design as it is. Whatever they choose to do isn't going to be the most predictable thing.
I'm really looking forward to having these in the game. My hope is they will go for a more... muscular build/aesthetic (Is that the right way to put it?). Unlike us FemRos who, whilst bigger then other female races, are still dwarfed by our male counterparts haha.
This ^
I want broad shoulders, small waist & thick legs & a LONG TAIL. Hrothgar males would look so much better imo if they had longer tails. But no, they have half-sized tails you hardly notice.
I say small waist but I mean it in a way to enhance their stature
Really hope they're not just colourful miqo'te
I hope they have amazing options- feathers in their hair, beads, gold bands- thick manes, spiky, wavy, braided
And they don't hunch. The big one for me is the hunch
Male Hrothgar are really alluring in that they just are- but the hunch gets me everytime. Especially since they can totally stand upright.
If our tails are longer, we can actually make snow leopards!!

As for the stature...
uhh >,>; maybe handling our weird hunchback would help. A lot.
