It'd be nice if when female Hrothgar was released they were released with a big rework of Viera and Hrothgar that fixed the hats and hair issue.

They've done nothing but handle the two races poorly since their launch.
You could kinda give them a pass because they even said it was stressful to do in SHB
but now we're in EW and they're still treated badly is my issue. Still going to laugh
when the Femroth's have like 2 faces and 2 hairstyles, maybe 3 if we count our blessings. :rolleyes:

I really hope they dont go with this kind of face. Ugh...its like that meme of Male demons vs female demons where the males look more monstrous and actually like demons while the females just look like really sexy ladies with different colored skin and maybe some horns. Make the hrothgals have actual cat like faces so they can remain true to their male counter parts

You know whats worse? Hrothgars were given a lot of mannerisms that you see in real felines, but they didn't give them the 2 things that really would have sold them...the iconic nose twitch that you see in cats and rabbits

Agreed, I really am hoping for a more beast-like appearance for Female Hrothgar. We have too many stereotypically attractive races and considering this is the last piece of the puzzle to be implemented, they should be just as intimidating-looking as the male Hrothgar. This is a difficult topic, because majority of the FFXIV community tend to gravitate towards attractive looking characters, so it's hard to say if SE will just cater to those people.

If anything, they'll probably just give them variations of cute "house cat" faces. Maybe one that looks like a lynx or something.

I really can't think of an example where that meme even applies, I've seen people use it and then compare Female Viera to Male Hrothgar which makes no sense to anyone who actually plays the game and understands how stupid that is.
Whenever I see people bring it up they either don't play the game and are comparing two separate races or they're just mad because breasts exist.

My guess is that Female Hrothgar will simply be Male Hrothgar but slimmer.
That's how it is for every other race I fail to see why it would be any different.
If you want Female Hrothgar to actually read as Female to us as human beings then you've gotta use shape to do that which means that yes they will most likely be slimmer and have breasts ( Male Hrothgar are basically hairy human guys ).
I don't expect the face to be so fundamentally different than Male Hrothgar either.

Yukiko's example isn't from FFXIV and I doubt the Male equivelant if they exist in whatever game they're from actually looks different.
Something tells me they don't look like Male Hrothgar and that they look more similar to those Female whatever race they are.

Ultimately I can't judge them for appealing to what most people want to see, but I personally have no real opinion on it either way.
If they're big like the Male Hrothgar then I won't play them but if they look more like in Yukiko's example ( but yes with a cat face ) then I'd actually be really interested.

Im having a bit of trouble understanding your post. People are mentioning that they're worried about the faces, but you bring up the Body. Its expected that they're going to have breasts and curves because they *ARE* females after all (Excluding female charr who are almost 1:1 replicas of their male counterparts, but Anet was still actually able to physically define them as female). What they're worried about is making hrothgals have more human like faces like the pantera in whatever game that is vs having actual cat/lion/tiger/whatever faces like their male counterparts

Giving them a cat nose and a ":3" is not what makes a cat's face. The defining trait of any animal really is their Muzzle/snout

Doesn't help that the 'sexy dimorphism' trope where males are outright furries/monsters and females are "human with animal ears/horns" is also a very popular trope in anime and rpgs - Neko and Kemonomimi are in on itself a popular trope for japanese audience, afterall... a trope that is already quite saturated with Miqo'te and Au Ra, Viera just being the cherry on top.

One of the biggest reasons I never wanted to play WoW was the sexual dismorphism, in there the females always look young, small and pretty, and the males look old, big and rugged... It's kinda insulting to me and turns me off, feels like it's designed for men by men. (aka other man can't be attractive)

as much as i hate this i know it's gonna happen. we do it in the west too (see: every cg animal people movie ever) but japan is really, REALLY bad for this. excruciatingly so.

With exception (for men), I'd say you also just described 14. This game has a bit of a problem with Forever 15 female character creation.

I just want them to look similar to female Khajit. Beastial face, fur all over, and possibly beastial limbs if they wanna be generous.

Any news on the hair/hat situation? Are we just waiting on 6.1. I understood it as 6.1 was ONLY for hrothgars getting updated. But I keep seeing in this thread that they meant for viera as well.

This was prior to Endwalker's launch "Additional new hairstyles for Viera are in the next round of adjustments, and will be available from the launch time of 6.0. Hrothgar will take more time, so they’ll be available from 6.1."

He doesn't specifically say if Viera are getting anything in 6.1, so I'm trying not getting my hopes up to be honest.

Atleast, I wouldn't put it past them to leave it at that.
Basically, Just don't be disappointed when Viera don't get hairstyles until another expansion later, considering it's not a priority of theirs.

I wouldn't say it's not a priority, if they are going to add things for viera and hrothgar it's going to be in this expansion, like they said they would do. I just don't know if it's going to be more. I'm looking forwards to 6.1.

It's probably for the best not to expect much for that patch, and most likely nothing for viera. If anything releases for viera it'd be a surprise really.

It was quoted and already talked about a few pages back in the thread. The hrothgar stuff sounds to be just the already existing styles fitted for other faces, and nothing was said about the fantasia issue.

It these few, ugly hairstyles is all we get for the entire expansion, it is really gross, considering that news come out every other week about how FFXIV is breaking records and making more money than ever. But yeah, I am not expecting anything.

Guys, you don't even want to know how much money they made by keeping hrothgar and especially viera races so limited for all this time... So many people fantasia to them, get annoyed and fantasia away. Adding more half-assed races like male viera and soon maybe female hrothgar is much more profitable for them than actually fixing what's already there.

The more amazing character you can create, the less often you are likely to buy fantasia and SE knows it, that's why its probably not a priority. It's so sad actually...

As sad as this is, its probably a true fact

I've only changed off of my hrothgar a few times since I've created him back in ShB, but you are right. I ended up getting several friends into 14 who wanted to play Hroth

They either

1. Switched to hyur, Au Ra, or Miqo'te
2. Quit all together

Which is sad because I was really looking forward to play with the ones who quit. When glim glams are a huge part of the game for a game like XIV, its very disappointing when they refuse to deliver for some of the races (Im looking at how bad roe's look in a lot of things...more specifically Male Roes. I mean, who wants to dress up a refrigerator?)

Honestly, this is 100% what I'm expecting them to do, since you can also semicustomize the hairstyle through the facial features tab, so unless they take out those options entirely, I highly doubt they'd be able to ever separate face from hairstyle.

My main concern though is whether the hairstyle will be edited to fit each head accordingly, or just go the "one size fits all" route without bothering to look whether they actually fit or not, like with the Bozja npcs

Sure, one can argue that's because it's an npc and not a player character model, but if this was supposed to be a glimpse of the feature, it didn't really leave a good first impression

People do enjoy playing Hrothgar, but after a certain amount of time the lack of customizations and £5 to change a hairstyle gets boring. I have quite a few friends who play FFXIV and selected Hrothgar as their starter character, they couldn't believe a race could have such limitations and exist to stand by and watch the other races get access to more hairstyles and hats... In the end, people do end up wondering "Why am I playing this race when I can just play a Miqo'te/Au'ra/Elezen etc which has access to all the headgear and hairstyles"

It's not that we don't enjoy Viera and Hrothgar, it's just that we should get what we're owed and were promised 3 years ago. I'm already witnessing certain people fantasia'ing from Male Viera back to their main races... The novelty's already wearing off.

Got to sadly say I gave SE my money for a fanta. I adore Viera, I do, but waiting for female Hrothgar (which are going to be limited, I understand) on another limited race is eating at me.
