Chances are that it has something to do with SE having to go through Sony to get the patch out on the PS4/3 as well, which might take up some time.

Games that are exclusive to PC, like WoW, don't have this issue, meaning it takes less time to push content patches out.

What? WoW's maintenance periods are usually three hours (11am to 2pm EST). Are you thinking of restarts? Most games average several hours for regular maintenance, most of them also doing it weekly. XIV doesn't have weekly maintenance and only has these day-long periods every few months during major patches. For that matter, major patches aren't always accompanied by 24-hour downtime. So if we could stop pretending this game has long, regular periods of downtime, that'd be great.

I swear, you guys are ridiculous. Not a single one of you would likely have been online for anywhere near that full 24 hours anyway even if the servers weren't down, so piss off with these threads already. If you want monetary compensation so badly, go dig around for forgotten loose change in your couch cushions. You'll probably find more crumb-caked change down there than what SE would owe you for a day's worth of maintenance.

1) Not saying everyone did have connection/bug issues after HW, however some did (myself included) and server outages still happen occasionally. It happens in WoW, it happens here as well. I also personally have strange connection issues sometimes in FFXIV, mostly in dungeons, that I have nowhere else. I see others complain about it somewhat often as well, maybe it's an Aether thing.

This is how it usually goes in WoW.

Many of FFXIV's 3 hour patches are also incredibly tiny changes with no content added. 24 hour patches are also extremely rare in other games.

As you can see from just this page, not even going back further than a month, FFXIV DOES have bouts of weekly maintenances. Not every single week since the game was launched, but for several weeks in a row every so often they do it. That's all I was saying. And please view the link I gave the other person.

And it's also not your place to be condescending about the value other people place on their money. A few cent to someone who works their butt off for it or doesn't have much money or just values their money more might consider the amount lost from a possibly unnecessarily long maintenance to be more impactful than you find it, and how is it your place to judge them for that or for simply asking questions about it?

There are only 4 instance of All worlds maintenance in that link, 5 if you count the current patch. There is PSN maintenance , specific datacenter maintenance , lodestone and mogstation maintenance listed that bloats the maintenance list to look full of stuff.

So, going back to the start of November, there are only 4 that impact everyone.

Hardly a lot of impact there, and certainly not weekly.

Personally. I've never in my life played a MMORPG where I ran into minimal bugs after a major patch. FFXIV seems to be the only game I can recall that achieved this. Yet those Bi weekly and weekly maint. mmo's everyone else on this thread seems to talk about just don't seem to cut it.

Not every bug can be found. That is a definite fact.


The amount of bugs resolved though is up to the team that runs the QA's. (Quality Assurance)

I've given him a very simple argument. What makes XIV a special case, why is it acceptable and understandable that it takes so much longer for minor and major patches than the average MMO?

All he continues to do is post link after link of walls of text that the average reader passing by will not read, that has no explanation at all of why XIV requires longer maintenances than other MMOs. Which I'm guessing is the oh-so-popular obfuscation of information technique employed on the official forums in debates. Post a link, people see you posted a link and might assume you've disproved the person you're debating with.
