Not sure if someone already said it, but how should we assign the stat point? While leveling up i gave all my point to STR, should i trade some for VIT?
Since we're talking stats, what stat should I aim for in gears? I was thinking of making a Gryphonskin Jerkin top once I reach 50 on my Leatherworker.
Skill speed, crit or determination? Theses are the stats that come back the most for monk related gears.
While skill speed is important, just how much do we need before we cap? Not to mention, we can't use our skills too fast, since animation of the move takes priority over when we can press our attack.
So I'm at the point in game (50 MNK)
I attempted to do Amdapor Keep.
As it came to conclusion...that my gear may be....lacking to do that efficiently that or unless I'm just doing something wrong...
Currently wearing full AF and w/e gear I've gotten from quest and such...
Should I focus on trying to get the gear from tombstones?
If so...where should I spam to get the tombstones...only have 345 atm ><
Yeah...representing monks here...!!...!...
...!
I like skill speed, but because of the "animation wall" I feel like determination and crit are more valuable for monk. Maybe if SE addresses the animation locking skill speed will move up, but for now I'm trying to focus on determination and crit with a little skill speed here and there. Right now I'm at about 430 skill speed and I'm already feeling like I'm being limited by skills like Demolish even without a Bard.
Aww i don't wanna wait 3 weeks until I can AK
I'm at that part in the relic quest and its toyin with me haha
Speaking of Tomestones and such, should I save for Darklight accessories or armour first? My accessories are quite lacking atm especially compared to the AF armour. (aetherial jewelry and white belt)
I've started the Relic Reborn quest too and I've heard you need 900 tombstones for that so I dunno what to prioritize.
EDIT: In a light bulb ping moment I realized I wouldn't be able to beat the primals on hard or higher level dungeons either without better gear so I answered the second part of the question myself xD
I already have most of my Darklight armor, I'm just missing the hat and pants (although I think I'll keep wearing the Peltas pants) and the rest of the accessories.
The only Gryphonskin part I was aiming was the top, because it had Skill speed, hence my initial question stat priority.
AF2 takes far too long to get, with only 4 myth per primal battle? Btw, I think that a HQ crafted Gryphonskin has potential to surpass darklight a bit, and I don't mind the cost, since I'm mining it all myself and I happen to have a weaver friend. The only thing that I'm waiting for is to see just how much skill speed we need before it starts catching the animation block.
Anyone tried Garuda Hard mode yet on Monk and if so any tips?
Use Featherfoot to dodge the boss's spin attack and make it a bit easier on the healers.
Time it so you can Rockbreaker + Howling Fist the plumes when they first come out, then hit Arm of the Destroyer immediately after to blast them all again. 330 potency to all of the plumes is nice.
When it's time to run around and avoid the tornados, let the ranged DPS deal with the satin plume. Ignore the normal plumes and just DPS the boss as best you can.
Always be on the lookout for the add's Slipstream attack. It not only does a ton of damage, but also stuns you. Don't be in front of the enemy when she uses it.
Here's what I try to do on Garuda (note that these are MNK specificthings) :)
- As stated, time Rockbreaker+Howling fist on the plumes (it is important you get howling fist when the plumes are next to garuda, because the cooldown is exact for the next spawn)
- Save Shoulder tackle for emergencies to keep greased lightining up (specially to move from plumes to garuda)
- Keep your stance rotating on the plumes, use Rockbreaker if enough aligned plumes
- If red add spawns close, I always try to DoT it before the green reaches the raid
- Use Blood for Blood (if you have it) in Garuda-only phases
- Save buffs for sisters, and trigger them before they reach the raid (IR, defensive stuff)
- If you dodge any skill, use Haymaker
- Pop Mantra when sisters spawn and reach the raid
- I switch to Fists of Earth when Reckoning comes, I don't know if it helps though
So, I've been playing for about one and a half week now and I'm having several questions concerning what I should do when I hit 50.
First of all, I'm planing on learning some crafting Jobs when I hit 50. What are the Jobs that I should consider on getting and leveling?
While browsing through some of the posts here, I noticed that some of you talked about AF2-Equipment, so I was wondering how you'll be able to upgrade your AF-Stuff later on (same story for the Sphairai, since there seems to be a Sphairai+1).
Something else that I need help with is keybinding of skills. I'm having difficulties on finding something that's comfortable for me regarding this issue (for now, I'm going with the standard keybindings and left-clicking on skills if necessary).
Is it better to just write macro's for standard rotations I'll be using, or is it good to change the key-bindings around the WASD-Keys so that I don't have to stretch my hand to it's limits to use one particular skill?
This is some information I gather in a personal wiki, most of the stuff is compiled from other players, here are the lists:
- Don't complete rank 3 hunting log of GC (save the boost for the patch)
- Level secondary classes to get cross-skills
- Level tradeskills (to repair cheaper?)
- Gear up
To gear up:
- Spam Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium for philosophy tomestones (no loot!)
- Spam Amdapor Keep and The Wanderer's Palace (difficult instances) to get good loot, and tomestones of philosophy and mythology
- Farm Ifrit for your weapon (alternatively get your GC weapon, a bit worse)
- You need 900 philosophy for the relic, make sure to save them
- Get access to Bahamut's labyrinth (progress killing Ifrit, Garuda, Titan…)
- Work towards relic weapon
Tiers of Equipment
Weapon
- Grand Company / Crafted - First level 50 weapon you want to get
- Darklight - costs Allagan Tombstones of Philosophy
- Primal - Ifirit < Titan < Garuda
- Relic - requires a long quest chain and for you to beat all three HM Primals
- Relic+1 - costs Allagan Tombstones of Mythology
- Allagan - drops from Coil of Bahamut
Armour
- Artifact (blue Class gear) / Grand Company
- Amdapor Keep drops
- Darklight - costs Allagan Tombstones of Philosphy
- Artifact 2 - costs Allagan Tombstones of Mythology
- Allagan - drops from Coil of Bahamut
- Castrum Meridianum: 100 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy
- The Praetorium: 100 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy
- The Wanderers Palace: 50 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy
- Amdapor Keep: 80 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy and 40 Allagan Tomestone of Mythology
What you want to do at level 50 is unlock and begin running the level 50 dungeons, especially Amdapor Keep. While Castrum and Praetorium are faster Tombstone of Philosophy farms, Amdapor Keep armour is slightly better than your Artifact gear and while collecting it you are also farming Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy and Mythology.
After Darklight
Once you have your Darklight gear (or even while still working towards a full set) you can start on your Relic weapon quest. This requires you to have completed all of the main story line and done of all the class/job quests for the specific weapon you are after. Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy (ATP) tokens can be exchanged for Darklight gear and Allagan Tomestones of Mythology (ATM) for Artifact+1 from NPCs in Revenant's Toll - Mor Dhona.

Copy paste over, hope it helped :)
Now writting again ^^
I re-arranged all my skills at level 50, no macros.
I kept all the buffs to be manually clicked, all the combo stuff in 1234, alt+1234, and situationals in ctrl+1234 (areas, shoulder tackle...)
As for tradeskills... I'm leveling up leatherworking together with mining, it requires a great amount of dedication, and I doubt it is worth it, but well, I'm into such stuff. I picked LW because of the relic craft requirement, however I could have gone with any other and just purchase it. I believe LW aligns with monks, I hope in a future they add more useful stuff for endgame (I don't have anything to be crafted that would benefit me atm). Mining just to pick a gathering skill... it complemented leatherworking in some cases.
Having one tradeskill at least to level 20-25 is good for the materia melding stuff :)
Gearwise, what I did was:
- Farm Ifrit to get my weapon.
- Run wandering palace occasionally for fun / see how it was / random upgrade
- Run Amdapor Keep to farm tomestones while at the same time getting the gear set (pelast) (random runs with friends to castrum and praetorium)
- I upgraded all my right inv side (jewelry) with Darklight from the tomestones, at the time everything was upgraded, I was full on the left side with the green set from adampor keep
- Now I aim to start getting AF2 pieces slowly, finish my relic, and upgrade the green set with Darklight slowly with the spare tokens
Woah, I really didn't expect such thorough explanations of the stuff I asked~
I'd really like to now the name of the personal wiki, so I can look up some stuff if I ever need to.
Other than that I really appreciate your help on that and here's the last bit of my post, which I couldn't write because of the restriction:
EDIT: I just noticed there is no PM function ;_;Quote:
Some tips on that and how you guys keybinded your skills would be much appreciated :3
Other than that, I'm having a blast with this class so far and I hope that it'll be as much fun to play in the future, as it is now ^-^
Here's my keybinds screenshot, they're nothing spectacular but they work for me (I want to make a few modifications to keybind the buffs at some point... but it's so overwhelming that I get lazy :p)
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/9442/6d4q.png
With those keybinds I can do the stance-rotations with 1234 and alt+1234 (2-3-4 being dots, on trash I just use 1234 and maybe alt+1), all the other stuff is pretty situational or random. If I want to do the AE combo it's usually ctrl+2 -> ctrl+3 -> ctrl+4
I didn't put my personal wiki, because it has other uninteresting stuff, and because I run it home in a raspberry... so it'd be bad if it got overloaded, but well, here you go :p (don't share it too much, it's public enough ;) ) - There are no PMs here :(
Fixed, as I said I copied some of the stuff from other people, haven't reviewed everything :p
I would like to ask you to tell me / us how your rotation looks like as I am interested in how to use Fracture and Touch of Death.
At the moment I am not using Fracture very often. Touch of Death random, if I notice that its running out.
Maximizing the monk rotation at the moment is a hell of an issue, so there is some aspects I'm ignoring for now (for example, I use perfect balance to boost to GL3 fast, but I suppose there's better combos to get more out of it, like probably spamming snap punch).
I'll summarise what I always try to do, I almost always end #1 dmg by large differences according to ffxiv-app, even though not accurate, it gives an overall idea and a good approximation.
I start boss fights maximizing GL3
(side) Perfect balance -> Snap punch -> Snap punch -> buff up -> Demolish + Fracture + Touch of Death -> Dragon kick ...
From this point on, Fracture and Demolish are synched into the rotation, so whenver they expire I reapply them. It is important to wait until they fade from the boss, otherwise clipping DoTs will fail depending on the buffs you had when you applied them, and this can screw your GL3 buff with the current lag and skill fails.
I also try to reapply Touch of Death whenever it expires, fitting it inbetween skills, not in any particular position of the rotation.
Other than that I keep Dragonkick debuff up, and the twin snakes buff up. I believe trying to memorize a rotation as a monk is not a good idea, most fights are disrupted by adds / jumping bosses, etc anyway, so I believe the key is to know what must be up at what time, and when to do what.
Summarising:
- Apply Demolish and Fracture together
- Keep touch of death up, apply when possible
- Keep GL3, DK and TS buffs up
- If possible, apply DoTs with buffs (TS+Blood for Blood+Internal release)
Can someone share his cross-hotbar settings please? I am going mad trying to figure how to best set them. Thanks.
Don't forget that Dragon Kick will only apply it's blunt resistance debuff if you are in opo-opo form, or in Perfect Balance. It's also important to note that while Perfect Balance is up, it completely prevents stances for the whole duration of it.. In the first rotation this would lead to 2GL dots without DK debuff, and in the second scenario to 3GL dots without DK debuff, the Dragon Kick at the end would not apply it's debuff (Perfect Balance would prevent Demolish from switching to opo form, while expiring after Touch of Death).
Been breaking my head as well over a good Perfect Balance rotation, for now settled with this:
Perfect Balance -> 3x Snap -> Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Perfect Balance expires, stances possible again -> Bootshine -> True Strike -> Blood for Blood + Internal Release -> Demolish -> Fracture -> Touch of Death
Focusing first on getting up GL to speed up GCDs, then apply fully buffed dots by the 10th GCD. Sometimes latency will prevent the first Twin Snakes from hitting, in that case I just replace True Strike with Twin Snakes later.
I asked this in another thread but this one is clearly far more active so I'll also propose it here:
While the DOT skills are higher total potency, have you considered that you are wasting a GCD that could otherwise be used to start your next cycle, leading to higher potency/crits/gl/etc.
I'm no MNK expert but I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the DOT skills with this in mind.
There's no combo skills that are as powerful as even the weakest of our DoTs. Even Bootshine with the 100% crit bonus isn't as strong as Fracture. Building up to 3 GL isn't that hard, and having it slightly sooner isn't worth the lost long-term DPS. Maintaining GL is very possible and very easy while maintaining your DoTs.
So no, there's no wasted GCDs for your DoTs.
Ah, the DOTs are literally stronger than any skill in any given combo? Makes sense.
Right. Bootshine is effectively 195 potency with the combo bonus. 214 with the Dragon Kick bonus, which the DoT effects do not benefit from. Fracture, the weakest DoT, is essentially 230 potency ([100 * 1.1] + [20 * 6]), and this number only goes up as you get more crit. Given a decent 10% base crit chance, it's 241.5 effective potency. Fists of Fire, Greased Lightning and Blood For Blood effect both equally, and Internal Release benefits everything that's not Bootshine equally.
The only downside of keeping DoTs up (and weaving in Impulse Drives when possible) is a potential TP issue in longer fights that have no breaks in them, which is something that is an exceptionally rare occurrence. And even then, all you'll do is stop weaving in IDs if you get low.
DoTs have many advantages over instant skill, any DoT close to dmg to a regular skill will always be far superior.
- DoTs can crit
- DoTs are guaranteed dmg once in
- DoTs will continue doing damage even if you are busy killing adds / the boss moves / you are incapacitated
- DoTs do damage while you are doing other skills
- ...
